MACBOOK TEMP ISSUE!!!!!
I have a issue about my Macbook's Temp.
At startup it's about 20-30C
Then average it''s 50-60C
Then if it's on for 6Hours (I keep mine plugged in) It goes to about 70-80C (No Joke) When i restart the computer it's 50-60C.
Do any of you have that problem???
There is only one fan in the Macbook.
Open your Activity Monitor app and look at the CPU % usage of the various processess when your Macbook is running hotter than you think it should. In fact, look at the CPU usage when it is not running hot. Get an idea of the relationship between that usage and the temperature. Also get an idea of what apps use what percentage of the CPU when they do there various tasks. Then you should be able to predict what temps to expect.
You may have errant processess running which can cause much higher than normal temperatures. My Macbook would occasionaly get quite hot (approaching 70C). I would look at Activity Monitor and it would show a particular process using 90% or more of the CPU. I knew that this should not be happening so I would force quit that process. It was the only way to stop it. The temp would immeditaely drop down to normal range. The errant process was a web accelerator used for accelerating dialup internet connections. I never did learn why it would only occasionally do this but nevertheless, it did and the final solution was to quit using that app.
At any rate, use the tools you have available to you such as Activity Monitor and you may discover reasons for otherwise mysterious goings-ons.

Anything new on temp issues on the 24 IMac's??
Got a question not necessarily an issue and I've researched it quite extensively on the net. Finding ambiguous data concerning this and if possible I'd like the feedback from you folks before calling AppleCare.
After buying my new 24 inch IMac and setting it up, I noticed the aluminum case upper corners and middle upper edge was becoming hot enough to pique my interest. I realized immediately that the aluminum case would be conducting heat more than my older IMac 17 which has the acrylic case.
I was concerned enough to find a temp widget called IStat Pro and download it to physically check the operating temps inside the case as well as the fan speeds.
The temps seem normal and are all in double figures with the CPU average around 50c. The bridges also are in double digits which seem normal enough.
My concern is that the case itself is apparently absorbing a whale of a lot of internal heat and seems to be functioning as a planned heat sink for the unit.
I'm assuming that the engineers at Apple have given the internal temps the thought it deserves and that my worries are ill advised.
I can't explain exactly why this continues to bug me, but as a commercial pilot I'm well aware that heat and avionics are mortal enemies and eventually cause issues in solid state circuits.
I guess what I'm doing here with my post is simply asking if there have been issues reported with the 2.66 IMac 24's and whether there might be a downside to the external case temps as time passes.
Thanks much for any insight into the temp issue. Be aware I've searched the forums and have read what I could find here. Just wondering if anyone has anything new to report.

This way you get a better overall idea. If you really think it's running too hot, you have 14 days from purchase to either have it repaired or replaced.
If it were me, I'd talk to an Apple representative about this heat issue. You can Google for this information and it's amazing on how many hits come up.
I just ran iStat on my iMac but it's the 2.66 20"... CPU is 1199 HD 1199 Optical drive 998
But mine never gets hot like you are talking about, warm but not hot.
I'm not running any CPU intensive apps for those numbers. May climb a tad when I have iTunes running....

Macbook Startup Issue - Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 2006 mac book had a start up issue a couple of years back, I'd boot her up to be greeted with a screen displaying a start up failed message in three different languages on a grey screen. http://www.minneapolispcrepair.com/images/mac%20error%20screen.jpg
Looking into the issue I noticed this model of Macbooks had issues with their hard drives and they could be replaced under warranty. Brilliant, booked myself into see a Genius and ha presto a few weeks later my hard drive had been replaced. However a couple of weeks after the replacement the issue started happening again but after a few attempts the Macbook would fire up so it wasn't really an issue just a pain in the butt!! Now 18 months down the line its becoming a real issue again, it must take 7 or 8 attempts to fire the blasted thing up, 25 is my highest so how.
My question is, what could be causing this start up issue, could it be the hard drive again???? as replacing the hard drive previously didn't really solve the issue in the first place?? Would apple replace this hard drive again????
The MB is a late 2006 model with Dual Core run Snow Leopard
Hope someone can help :o(
Thanks
DeanoThis looks like a kernel panic. Try to startup the mac in safe mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455) and observe for a few startups whether the problem occurs again or not.
If this solves the problem then you may have a problem with your software installation. Consider reinstalling os x or take a look at your system log file and search for kernel panics (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742).
If the problem persists you may have an issue with your hardware. I would recommend to take it to an Apple Genius to have the system checked (free of charge afaik). -

come on msi, give me a fighting chance :(Here is the last thing I received from MSI tech support. I'll give them this much, they are much more responsive than VIA or AOpen ever were when I first got my flakey MVP3 board...lol. I hope they can figure this problem out!

I know you guys think you fixed the Newcastle temperature problem. But there are still a LOT of us out here who are having trouble, using latest BIOS. People are reporting this all over the MSI forums. The behavior is as follows, flashing the BIOS might help initially, but soon after the temp shoots way back up.
Please see the following threads:
Temps and BIOS 1.42
ggrrrrr, is there any that bios that fixes the temp issue? [solved]..spoke too soon [NOT SOLVED]

Excuse me , info about KT4 Ultra temp issue BIOS 1.4
Hi, all, excuse me if I disturb u, but I've not understood compleltely if the low temps recorded by MSI KT4 ULtra sensors with BIOS 1.4 is a problem or is a real reduction of the temperatures offered by the new BIOS.
Thank you very much for your time
Bye
MarcelloNo, its not enabled by default - and the temp issue is for real - not only reporting with less than 5-8*C, but also reversing the winbond sensors(CPU-SYS). I must tell you that the Cooler XP utility still works no mather if CPU HALT is enabled or not, taking another 5-8*C from your temperatures. Running an AMD Athlon XP Palomino 2100+ almost at 20*C with regular air cooling seems damn' science-fiction and the system with 5 degrees or more than the CPU.
So stick with what u've got, if it's ok and stable. And trust us, we've checked the BIOS, we've checked the temperatures with alternative measurments. We are not that ****** -
MSI didn't fix the temperature issue for AMD 64 processors. I'm sure.
For people who didn't read my previous posts;
MSI claims in BIOS 1.4 (for the MSI K8N Neo Platinum) that they fixed the problem that the CPU gets (for example) 54 degrees idle and 74 degrees load.
They didn't. They just made up a fake solution.
Here are my arguments.
- When I start my computer, after a cold long night in which the computer was turned off, I see 42 degrees for my CPU in the BIOS. This is when I go DIRECTLY to the BIOS in the POST. 42 degrees? That is impossible. The temperature in my room is around 20. It can't get so high so fast. My Northbridge is 21. In the old BIOS 1.3 it was the same; when you started your computer the BIOS showed temperatures like 52 etc.
- When my computer has started Windows XP, I start Core Center. There I see my CPU temperature. It is 39 degrees for my CPU. Ridiculous. My old AMD XP 1800+ started with a minimum of 29 when Windows started. After that the 1800+ increased to 48 degrees.
But ok, when I use the trick which some people used in BIOS 1.3 to get true readings (restarting their computer with a soft boot), I see 34 degrees for my CPU. This reading is the only true reading. Isn't it weird that when I have my computer turned on for about 4 hours, with whole the time readings like 42 degrees idle, and I restart, I just get 34 degrees... WITHOUT fluctuating temperatures to hell and back...
My conclusion is that MSI just made something up like '74-20 = 54 degrees in load and 62-20 = 42 degrees idle'.
Also, the temperatures are fluctuating to hell and back. It goes from 58 degrees in load to 54 to 50... Whatever...
This board is great, but this problem really, really s u c k s. FIX this. We have the right of correct temperature readings. We spend money for it.

We are users helping each other. If you must speak with an MSI tech you can always contact them from the MSI main page. Oh and it is not likely they will answer if you attack them the way you are writing in this forum. Now would I for that matter.
I do agree that some in this thread have crossed the line and need to watch it .

Yes there can stilkl be temp issues especially with the newcastle core CPU's. The new Bios is still a work in progress. There are a lot of combinations they need to work out. But if you contact MSI with a complaint in a cival manner and let them know what experience you have you may even get a new beta bios to try and see if it will solve your issues. Or they may have other suggestions. However they can't fix stuff they are not aware are broken and most of the problems disappeared when they released 1.4. So let them know about what you have.
Been there done that. They were responsive in the beginning. Continued to send them very polite and factual updates as I tried new BIOS updates but have long since ceased to receive any response at all. Again, I say I don't blame MSI. Just want a fix.....

Oh yes and running these chips in the 50C+ range at full load is still within reason.
I reread the thread a few times, and I don't see where anyone is claiming that they feel like that's a problem, so I'm confused about the relevance of this statement . The problem that's been mentioned here is that the temperature is being REPORTED at 50+C at IDLE load conditions when it obviously is NOT that hot. Restart of the machine immediately then shows an IDLE temp of 30C. Even though 30 seconds prior it showed 50C with just as low of a load since it was right after cold start? THIS situation is NOT within reason.... And it's very repeatable, cause I see it every single day -
Another Temp Issue - Kooling?
Hi All, I have greatly appreciated what I have read here in the last few weeks lurking. I have learned much but the one thing I cannot seem to solve is my CPU temps issue.
My CPU Temp w/ Bios 1.6 and C & Q, w/ no OC was 49C Idle, and about 57-60C after gaming.
Updated Bios today to 1.7b and C & Q, and it added 4 degrees to that.
My steps to this date in remedying this have been:
- Replace stock CPU Heatsink with Thermaltake SilentBoost K8 (dropped idle 5C down to the above 49C in Bios 1.6) Fan Speed ~2450 RPM
- Reapplied Artic Silver 5 in the manner described on the given website * the BB rice size thing
- All cables inside are nicely tucked away for max airflow (have a Scorpio 868w case) and the case has a total count of 8 fans.
- Installed latest CPU Driver from AMD
My above readings are from Core Center 1.6.6.0. With Speedfan I get 49-50C CPU and 32c System. Bios is a different story, 60C!
Any help would be appreciated. I know these temp issues are a continuous subject and hate to ask for redundant info. I am wondering if I need to purchase a separate Cooler such as Koolance though would not be excited to shell out another $200. I am intent on getting an ATI Radeon x800 Pro but not until I stabilize temps. Thanks all!!!yep it is cooling. Play on words. Had just been reading up on Koolance Cooling units. I just don't think adding cooling is a solution. My case is quite clean inside with wires bundled, tucked away etc. I have 80mm fans 2 front, 2 rear, 1 side, 1 CPU, and 2 PSU Fans. Quite windy in there. If there was a true airflow issue or overheating in the case, why would System Temp run at 32C? I live next to Seattle, WA so safe to say it is fairly cool here usually including in the house. I brought the case out of its desk enclosure for the best air intake.
After the many threads here and in AMD, It does make more sense that it would be some sort of discrepancy between the CPU Thermal Diode and how the MoBo / Bios interprets the CPU Temp. That's a rehash of what I have been reading and is making more and more sense.
Am trying to be proactive on this temp thing to see is this for real or artifact. Truth be told, this mobo/cpu makes a smokin fast machine and have no complaints, reboots, BSOD, stability issues on Prime95, Memtest etc.
Live Update shows Bios 1.7 today! I flashed with the Beta one yesterday, what timing! Is there reason to reflash with this release? -
K8N Neo2 Chipset cooling and 1.8 BIOS/temps issue
Hi, Not really a problem thread, more some resolutions I want to share (didn't have much luck finding these answers so thought this might help someone...)
First - I've replaced my chipset cooler with the Vantec CCB-A1C (Copper). I think mine is a fairly late revision board (though I forgot to record/photograph the chip while it was bare ) but the stock HS had the usual rubbish tiny spot of gunk slightly off centre. Gave it a nice (thin but even) layer of AS5 before fitting the Vantec and quite happy with the results: The Vantec is actually considerably louder than the stock fan but by using Speedfan to throttle it back to 50% it becomes almost silent and the chipset temp hardly rises above 26C now (32C idle rising to 40+ under load previously).
And on the temps issue - I flashed the official 1.8 BIOS a little while ago and was disturbed to see my CPU temp go from high 30s to around 19C! There was no way that could have been correct (at least 10 degrees lower than ambient? I'm running an XP-90 but it's not magic!).
So I've been looking for news on these 1.9 bioses and popped in here http://www.lejabeach.com/MSIK8N/k8nneo2.html and found the 1.8F bios. Have flashed and now my CPU is reporting 26C which is at least a bit more like it! My system temp is stable at ~38C, but I have no idea of the location of that sensor so there could be other factors keeping that one high.
One question - does anyone have a definitive list of settings/temp offsets etc for Speedfan? And maybe some diagrams showing sensor locations? /hopeful
Apologies if any of this is old news of course!

Hi,
There is a fairly simple solution, to at least reduce the risk of damaging your macbook by letting it run at high temps. I bought my 2.0GHz macbook over the weekend, it was idling around 70 - 75 C. Thats a little high in my book.
I put the macbook on the vantec lap2cool laptop cooler that I have for my AMD64 HP laptop. Within about 30 minutes of running, the macbook was running between 42 C (idle) and 60 C (being taxed). Now the vantec is pretty cool, but its a little bulky for the little macbook.
I picked up a targus cooler for about $24 at the local walmart, its keeping it idle around 48 C, and under normal conditions (text mate, iTunes, Firefox, Thunderbird) its running around 54 C. The targus cooler is pretty quiet, slim, but a little cheap. They sell some high-powered solutions on newegg.com with better CFM and higher RPMs.
Now I'm sure a lot of typical mac users are going to have a fit about using a laptop cooler that makes the macbook a little bulker, but its way better than the damage your going to do to the macbook by running it hot on a daily basis!!Intel processors (at least recent ones) are well known for having heat related issues. AMD processors offer better price/performance with reduced energy consumption and output. My HP zv5000z which is AMD64 based, has two large fans on the base, and kicks off a fair amount of heat exhaust. That however is heat thats NOT in my system. If I use it for games, then I'd be crazy not to have it hooked up to the Vantec Lap2Cool.
Apple in my opinion are taking a bit of a gamble. They've had to trade-off heat issues, performance with keeping the system quiet. To me, kicking the fans in on the macbook is a last ditch attempt to keep the system from keeling over, hence the loud noise (high RPM fans). What Apple is likely gambling over is that most users will run the machines in a "cool place" and the average user won't tax the system. Your business, designer, etc types aren't going to be playing games on it. They are gambling that the system will hold up to the level of heat abuse until the warranty runs out, or you purchase AppleCare. Either way, I assume they don't lose money.
In terms of melting, I seriously doubt you'll see physical melting of the system. What you are more likely to see is heat related damage to electric components (either the processors themselves) or surrounding components, resulting in system failure (or odd issues like display problems, random crashes etc). Lets just say its in the best interest of the health of your system to keep it cool.
The fact that Apple has corrected this on the MacBook Pros with firmware / hardware changes, would suggest there is some teething issues with the move over to Intel, and perhaps a shift in the type of customers buying the macbook.
With the market being so competitive, do you really think Apple is going to say -- "Hey these Macbooks look nice, but they overheat, you need to get Apple Care because they'll fail sooner than expected, and you should buy a laptop cooler to extend the life of the product". This adds what $300.00 to the price of the laptop, thats already slightly higher than lightweight options from vendors such as Dell, HP etc. When you go to the Apple Store and the person working there insists that you should buy Apple Care because the system is going to fail sooner rather than later, that tells you something right there.
Now if a laptop cooler keeps the system running between 43 C and 60 C instead of 60 C and 90 C, then aside from your own comfort with the thing on your lap, keeping the system cool is a good idea. Unless you like to return things to the Apple store? -
Macbook Pro issues - can anyone tell if 'normal' or faults
I have some issues with my new 15" 2.66 unibody (non-removable batery) MBP. I'm told by the retailer that they are all normal/common - i'd like see if this is actually the case or they fobbing me off.
1.) Something 'lose' inside the case around hard drive area - ie if i move the mac around (vertically is worst - ie imagine holding it with two hands with hinge sitting downwards, closed) i can hear something fairly hefty clunking back and forth against the inside of the shell (hard drive moving about?)
2.) When i opn the lid for the first time after a period of the mac being closed, i get a reasonable creak/crack from the left side of the screen hinge.
3.) When i run the battery down and it goes to sleep 'to preserve the contents of memory' it doesn't take long at all before battery so low it goes into deep sleep (ie state where all RAM contents are written to disk - and then takes a min or so to come to life again when you open the lid - my old macbook pro could last a good few hours in sleep mode before dying completely and deep sleeping
I'd really like to know if anyone has noticed similar issues with their machines - or if indeed these are isolated issues to a few, aka faults.
Thanks in advance1.) Something 'lose' inside the case around hard drive area - ie if i move the mac around (vertically is worst - ie imagine holding it with two hands with hinge sitting downwards, closed) i can hear something fairly hefty clunking back and forth against the inside of the shell (hard drive moving about?)
The sudden motion sensor may make the appearance of something bouncing in there as it may activate while the drive is being moved around suddenly. However, if this does not appear to be the case, I'd ask an authorized service center.
2.) When i opn the lid for the first time after a period of the mac being closed, i get a reasonable creak/crack from the left side of the screen hinge.
Is the opening range different from other ones in the store?

The battery may need calibration at first:

If it is calibrated, and you aren't getting the life expected by that link for rudimentary usage, have the power manager looked at. -
Macbook Pro issue - advice needed
Hi!
I have mid 2010 15” i5 2.53 Macbook Pro that has quite famous Nvidia 330m problem, it works fine when it uses integrated graphics, however it randomly crashes after switching to Nvidia.
I am a graphic designer so I need to use adobe programs such as Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects etc, also I need reliable machine, it’s really annoying when I sometimes lose something I’ve been working for hours after computer crashes (I tend to save everything after each modification but sometimes I won’t be able to when it crashes randomly).
It worked alright before while using Snow Leopard, issue started after upgrading to Mountain Lion, then, even after downgrading to Snow Leopard, problem stayed. I tried to get apple to fix it free of charge under their policy for this problem last year however they said that macbook showed signs of liquid damage so they wouldn’t, they quoted me for about £670 for total repair - I didn’t agree on this.
I’ve been looking for some ways to fix it, I upgraded to Mavericks recently and after that macbook was crashing pretty much all the time after few seconds after start up when I was trying to do something on it, when I was using Snow Leopard it tend to crash only 1-4 times a day.
I’ve found the idea with the blanket forcing it to heat, I have removed battery, plugged AC adapter, positioned turned on mac upside down on the edge of my bed (open lid) covered it with blankets and left it for an hour. To my surprise, after it cooled down it was working much better even tho I was using mavericks, it didn’t crash at all for about 2 hours, then crashed once, then it kept going for even 6 hours without crashing which was really good considering previous situations. The problem is, it still crushes sometimes, and I can’t risk losing my work.
There are still some ways I haven’t try yet like:
Putting logic board into the oven for 7 mins
Trying to heat logic board (Nvidia chipset) with hair dryer
Also, there is a repair centre on ebay that fixes this exact issue, apparently permanently by fitting brand new updated GPU Chipset that has been purposely produced by Nvidia to replace the Faulty GPU Chipset - this will cost about £180 including return delivery, and they provide 6 months warranty - there was over 100 happy customers with this problem and it seems like they fixed it
I would prefer to spend as little money as possible, and I have no problem with the speed of my macbook pro, 4gb Ram (currently using 2GB as one stick got broken so it does work slowish, but I will buy another 2gb stick on Monday - or should I get 4gb making overall ram 6gb? will this make much difference?) also, I was thinking about updating HDD to either Crucial 256GB SSD or Seagate Momentus XT 500 and then use my currently installed HDD as external HDD as I have planned to buy external HDD anyway.
Of course, getting the machine professionally fixed and upgrading it would cost me less than spending loads of money (over £1000) for brand new 13” retina mac, I also like 15” screen, even tho 13” retina has higher resolution, build in DVD is beneficial as well.
What do you guys think? Any experience with similar problem? If so what was your solution? BTW, what was the highest amount of money you've ever spent to fix your macbook pro that was out of warranty?
Sorry for quite long post
Thanks!Yes, they specifically fix Nvidia 330m problem, they state that the only true solution is to remove old chipset with their brand new chipset that has been apparently released by Nvidia as an update for this issue, this is exactly what they say:
What faults can we fix?
We can fix graphic/display issues relating to the 15" / 17" Nvidia 330M models in 2010 Models. These are fixed using the appropriate professional equipment.
Brand New Chipset Repair - (only option we recommend for Macbook Pro Nvidia Models) With this procedure we re-fit a Brand New Nvidia GPU Chipset reballed in leaded solder.
**** Special Offer - £10 off making the Brand New Chipset Repair £169 + Post! ****
They also provide photos of certain logic board (including photo of serial number) with old chip, chip removed and new chip installed as a proff.

MacBook Pro issues...
I have a MacBook Pro (MacBookPro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz) purchased in 2008. I have AppleCare that will expire in 2011.
The issues I am having, some since I purchased it:
- Display at times will get a purplish/ blueish hue, fixed when I go under System Preferences > Displays and click the resolution setting (which is not changed, but seems to be clicked) and then it works properly.
- The DVD/ CD drive seems to be acting up. A DVD that works on an older iBook G4 without issue spins like crazy in my MacBook Pro, making quite a bit of noise and then ends up with an error.
- The keyboard, that has never had anything spilled on it and is in a smoke free environment, has issues with keystrokes, whereby as I am typing I have to go back and press the key harder for it to stroke.
- Battery life is terrible. If I can get 90 minutes on the battery I am lucky.
- The Apple Mouse, well same issue as everyone else, that ball needs to be cleaned almost every day to partially work (purchased on the same bill with the computer.)
Guess my question is probably my answer and is to get to the Genius bar and have them take care of this, but I can't be without a computer and wondering how Apple handles these issues.
Thanks in advance for your help!Sam,
You would need to take it in to really get an accurate assessment of how Apple will handle it. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar and try to tackle each issue one by one. The issues they can look at would be the display, the SuperDrive and your keyboard. The others you can tackle before going in.
If they do take it in for repair you will need to be without the machine so you should have a backup computer plan going in.
As far as the battery life, batteries are consumables so yours may be nearing the end of it's life assuming you have properly cared for it. You should prepare to purchase a replacement if needed. If you haven't already I would recommend reading this article on battery maintenance.
Regarding your mouse, I would call Apple immediately and see if they will send you a replacement using your Applecare. When they send you a new one they will take a credit card number to ensure you send back the old mouse, once they received it they will release your the hold on your credit card.
That should handle it however you should make preparations to be without your computer for the display, SuperDrive and keyboard issues.

MacBook Pro issues connecting to Gmail, Facebook, and other websites
Hi,
In the past week or so, I have had problems connecting to Gmail, Facebook, and other websites on my MacBook. When I try to open Gmail, I get the following message "Safari can't verify the identity of the website "accounts.google.com". The certificate for this website is invalid..." etc. It asks if I want to connect anyways, and I do, but then once I'm on Gmail, I can't use gchat and all of the buttons (delete, reply, etc) are blank. When I try to connect to Facebook, I just get a mostly blank page. I'll include screenshots in case that's helpful.
When I try using Firefox, it doesn't allow me to connect to either website at all.
I hope someone can help me with this issue! On your iMac, open System Preferences > Date & Time then select the Date & Time tab.
Make sure: Set date and time automatically is selected.
Then select the Time Zone tab.

Macbook Pro issues, Randomly logs me out, takes several attempts to boot from sleep
Hi there,
I bought my macbook pro (2013, I5) about 9 months ago. Recently I've been having issues where start-ups will take several attempts before I can finally load my desktop. Coming out of sleep, oftne times I can't move my mouse or type into the password box, the screen will then go dark, I hit escape to bring the login screen back up but once again I can't do a thing. This will happen a few times until I can finally get in.
In the last week as well, I've had a few occurences where I'll be in the middle of typing out a word document, and I'll get logged out for no reason. Luckily I can recover my work but it's stilla nuisance.
The system diagnostics report for the last such event is below.

I have taken it into the genius bar for all this, and the laptop cleared all their tests, so I have no idea what to do. Any help is appreciated!BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps? -
Hi, I didn't see a forum here dealing with basic hardware issues (would it be better posted at "power mac" or "leopard"?) so I figure unix geeks might have an answer as well as anyone...
I have a 128G seagate 3.5in hard drive as the main drive now in this mac. Using iStat Nano widget, I see a reading -- sometimes -- for the "hard drive temp". Other times, I get a "N/A" readout.
What is being read? Can iStat nano really read a hard drive temp if the seagate has that facility? And if so, why do I sometimes get no readout? It seems pretty random to me, I really don't have "some things on" only when there's no readout. Thank you.Hi
I presume that memory modules have not the same bus speed and that is reason for overheating. Please be careful about that and use just compatible parts.
Bye

Reinstall without disc - urgent issue
I purchased iLife HD family pack and my daughter has the disc at college with her. Can I reinstall using the installation package on my hard drive? I'm pressed for time and need it now versus waiting for my daughter to ship it if at all possible.
