Macbook+Tivo=No DVD Showing up

I would like to use my Macbook to play DVD movies on my TV. On my current setup I have the Tivo connected to my TV with A/V plugs (Yellow/Red/White).
I went to the Apple store and bought the Mini DVI to Video adapter, an S-Video Cable, and a Monster Audio cable that plugs into the headphone output on the MB and they Y's off into two Audio A/V plugs.
I tried to hook it up and watch a DVD and nothing happened. I have the S Video cable plugged into the DVI-Video adapter (which is plugged into the computer of course) and the other end plugged into the S-Video Output on the back of the Tivo. I have the Monster Cable plugged into the Headphone jack on the MB and the other end to the Audio Outputs on the back of the Tivo.
Turned everything on and nothing worked.
One thing that I think I am missing is someway to tell the Tivo to switch to the "Auxillary" output. How do I do that with Tivo. Thanks for everyones help.

Well, I had been writing something else but I'm gonna forget it and just try this again.
You need to get audio and video to your TV. Currently, with the set up to the Tivo, you have an S-Video connection on the Tivo end, which means you would need to use that to connect to your TV. If your TV has no S-Video, then that can't be done with that adapter you have. The Audio you have in a headphone jack to the 2 colors of composite cable for the left and right audio. That is probably more useful, as most TVs have composite inputs, but that would only give it the audio, and you would still need the sound. The easiest way is to have an adapter from your MacBook that has 2 cables on an end, one for headphone jack and the other for the mini-DVI and it switches it to a 3 cable (Red White and Yellow) Composite end that then you connect to the 3 color composite connections on your tv where the Tivo gets plugged in (unplug your Tivo and plug that in when using, it will not affect the Tivo and its recording process or anything) or if you have a second set of composite in connections on your TV, plug it in there and change the channel to the corresponding one (my TV has AV1 (tivo channel), AV2 (the side inputs which we use for the XBox) and FRONT (I have no idea what it is for as we have no front inputs at all, heh).
I have no idea if there is an adapter like this or not. I know that my portable 7 Inch LCD screen DVD Player has a nice little port on it that I use to attach one end of a cable, and the other end has the 3 color composite cables on it so I can connect it to a TV for DVD viewing (and it automatically turns off the display on the player as it is not needed). But the MacBook has that odd mini-DVI plug and I think they expect everyone to have tech TVs that are plasma or lcd and have S-Video and component inputs, DVI and/HDMI etc. Mine doesn't. Coaxial and Composite cables are all it has. But if you could find an adapter that took the mini-DVI and had the other side the same as the portable DVD player plug port, then you could use that cable to attach to it and then to the TV (I could even send you mine if it worked as I never use the cable much less my DVD player anymore as I have 3 laptops now).
Demand a mini-DVI to tri-color composite adapter if one isn't available... I would buy one. Maybe... I can't use any of the other types though thats for sure.
Sorry, I tried my best...

  • Capturing TIVO on DVD

I have a new MacBook Pro and want to capture my TIVO content on my MBP, then make DVDs of it. I spoke with TIVO support and they suggested I go wireless with the TIVO using a TiVo Wireless G USB Network Adapter and pick it up with the MBP. I would then need to convert the TIVO files to MPEG2 or MPEG4 to put onto the DVD for future use.
1). Will the TIVO wireless adapter make the TIVO content available to pull into my MBP?
2). What software will I use to convert to MPEG? Sonic video conversion software was suggested by TIVO, but looking at Sonic websites I only see Windows apps, and so far no Mac software for the TIVO-MPEG conversion.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

1). Will the TIVO wireless adapter make the TIVO
content available to pull into my MBP?
Take note that you don't need to buy the TIVO brand wireless adapter. Many (cheaper) devices work. Don't waste your money by throwing it at Tivo, they don't deserve your money.

None. Mac does not support *.tivo files. Tivo to go was supposed to be released Mid 2006, but Tivo yet again, disappointed Mac users. It is questionable as to what the hold up is, but I'd say it's not happening anytime soon.
You can access downloads of your tivo box via its IP address, the Now Playing 2.0 widget, or via Tivo To Go on a Windows PC.
Unfortunately the only way you will be able to watch or convert a *.tivo file is on a PC using various applications. Something called "Direct Show Dump" can transfer *.tivo to a mpeg file.
It is very time consuming to go from Tivo --> PC --> Conversion --> Transfer to Mac. A 1 hour show can take up to 6-8 hours due to the size, and due to the fact that regardless of the wireless adapter, tivo transfers files VERY slowly. it takes about 3-4 hours to transfer a 750 GB show (generally 30-45 minute show).
As of right now, I am extremely disappointed with the lack of Mac compatibility with Tivo. It's funny because in many diagrams authorized with Tivo, they show it being used with a Powerbook.
I don't think it's worth your time. You may want to investigate other options like using EyeTV and saving your TV shows that way.
The only EASY option to Capture Tivo on DVD is to buy a Tivo Box with a DVD burner on it. That is the only fast way to capture stuff on a DVD and easily transfer it to a Mac
    sorry for the bad news

I lost my iphone and my macbook pro does not show the icloud in system pref. how do i get icloud on my mac?

iCloud is only available in Lion, 10.7. You will have to upgrade to Lion in order to get into iCloud. If you transfered a .mac or .me address to iCloud through mobile me, or you have another device iCloud enabled, then you can log into the iCloud.com website.

Started a similar string before.  When I select a recipient in Messages on my Macbook Pro the name shows up in red and says the recipient is no longer registered on iMessage.  I know that they are registered.  Is there a problem with Contacts possibly.  The previous help has been appreciated but the problem persists.

    Hi,
Try iMessaging your own iPhone and see if your account is actually logged in.
It can appear "enabled" and On line but sometimes it is not.
Also try sending from your iPhone (number) to your Apple ID and see if it gets to the Mac.
If it does not use the Sign Out button.
    Then shut down the Mac
On restart add back the Apple ID to the iMessages account settings.
I also just checked My wife's iPhone as she popped up red.
It turned out her iPhone did not have Messages On.

You could just try changing your Input Sources under System Preferences>Language & Text:
But I kind of doubt that's going to work. It may be a hardware problem or a system problem. If you take it into Apple they might be able to determine which and might advise a reinstallation of System software. I would take it to an Apple Store or an AASP but, first, make sure that you have a backup just in case they suggest a clean install of the system.
    Good luck,

ITunes shows iPad only for a few seconds. iPad displays alternately: Apple logo, battery w/slim red band, then battery w/1% charged information. How can I get it to charge beyond 1% so I can proceed to troubleshoot?

I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

At this point I am not sure if I should replace the battery and hope for the best, or just junk the phone, I cannot really sell it if I cannot reset it...

Pardon the question, but you are checking the mac app store > Purchases (not iTunes or iTunes store or the app store for iDevices)? Have you tried holding the Option key while clicking on Purchases (shows hidden purchases).

Where can I download a macbook pro install dvd for my Macbook pro 2.2 because i lost mine...

I don't think you can actually download the install DVD. If you call Apple they can send you the install DVD for a nominal fee +S&H. You will need to provide them with the serial number for your Mac to see if it's registered to you.

Have you set System Preferences/CDs & DVDs to what you want to happen? This helped one person.

  • Can a macbook pro play dvds

can a macbook pro play dvds?
all it says online is that you can burn dvds, not about anything else.

Every Mac that has an optical drive can play DVD movies and read DVD data discs. I watch DVDs on my MacBook Pro too

  • How come my MacBook ejects international DVD's?

I recently brought some DVD's from Indonesia and I have tried playing them on my MacBook, but my MacBook takes the DVD in for about 3 seconds then spits it out without anything appearing on the screen.
I must also add that these DVD's are most likely illegal.
    What is the problem?
And is there anything I can do to fix it?

It seems to suggest that the DVDs themselves are poorly made. Even legally made DVDs sometimes have this problem, though in my opinion not as often.
So I doubt if the MacBook can actually detect the legal status of your DVD, more likely just poor quality and will not work with it.
To be sure, rent a good commercially made DVD and see if it works in your MacBook. If it works, ask for a refund for your Indonesian DVDs. Probably not going to happen but...
Also, I don't know if the DVDs you purchased elsewhere are region coded, but if they are and have a different region code that where you live, you may run into problems changing the region code too many times. See this Apple article for an explanation.
    Best of luck.
