Macbook to 42" Olevia Sound Help Please..
I just bought my olevia and hooked it up with my macbook
by mini dvi to dvi to hdmi and it looks amazing!
But how do I get sound to come from the tv? Like the clicking
and music from itunes to come out of the tv speakers so i can watch movies?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks.
You'll have to run a separate audio cable from the Mac to the TV. DVI doesn't carry audio. Or you can connect a set of powered speakers to your Mac.

Hi! I got Movies on my external hard drive that are AVI kind and won't play on my macbook pro? When I start playing the movie a message pops up and says "a required codec is not available". I tried flip4mac, xvid, divx already and still not playing my video. need some help please!! thanks.
Although vlc mentioned above is a much more powerful and better player you could try installing Perian if you insist on using the quicktime player. It may supply the codec it needs.
Not sure why you wouldn't be able to play straight avi files though in quicktime. -
My wife's MacBook has a virus! Help, please.
Hi,
My wife's computer has a virus. I've never seen anything like it on any computer. It's as if a mad person has taken control of the mouse and is operating it continuously by himself—opening and closing apps, locking out us out as we sit watching as helpless bystanders. Turning off the computer, etc. does nothing. Help.
Best,
JosephIt is not likely a virus, but for info read Klaus's User Tips and the link to Thomas Reeds SafeMac site.
Do a restart of the MacBook and see if that helps, and are you using a mouse with the MacBook or the trackpad?
If a mouse, unplug/unpair it and use the trackpad. If that helps then try attaching the mouse again.
If this continues and you are using the trackpad it could be a problem with the trackpad or its interface with the system...visit the Apple store genius bar and have the techs run their diagnostices to see what is causing this behavior. -
Slow Macbook pro. Can anyone help please?
Hi Everyone.
This is my first time here, so please go easy on me.
I have a slow Macbook Pro. No idea why so I googled it and google suggested I get these details via Etresoft.
Can anyone suggest why this machine is so slow after seeing this?
Cheers

My old macbook won't power up - help please!
I have an ancient macbook, from around 2006, and it's been chugging along just fine. Suddenly, it just won't power up at all! Power adaptor shows a green light at plug in, so the cord is working, but no fan sounds, no lights, nothing when I try starting. I've tried that SMC reset, but still nothing.
Is there anything else I can try? If not, does anyone know if a good apple repair shop should be able to recover my data? I've been an idiot and haven't done a back up in a few years.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide! I'm going to purchase a new macbook air, but REALLY need my data from the old one if at all possible, so hoping I can get it started and/or have a repair person salvage the data.

Apple Macbook Pro Hard Drive Repair Help Please
Cause of the mistake, i was being dumb and wanted to use my backup timemachine drive for an external drive, so I dragged the timemachine folder out of it and tried to empty the trash can, half way through I realized that it was trying to wipe my whole back up of my computer which would have been forever. So I panic, force shut off the computer, disconnect the drive and restarted the computer. My drive says 200 gb free when I know there is 400 left. So obviously the trash files are still around in my hard drive.
Did a disk verify and there is something wrong and the computer wants me to reboot and use repair upon rebooting the mac. I haven't done this in a while so I'm not sure if it's expecting me to have a backup from time machine.... the one i just fatally "deleted" or if it gets rid of the trashed files. Can someone help me please before I lose A LOT of work.
Update : And let's say I did need a back up, then if I just backed it up right now, with the missing but still taking up space files, would I still get those files in the back up or no?As I understand it, you can't fix a failing SMART status. Believe me I tried on my iBook! I was originally under the impression that DiskWarrior and Tech Tool Pro could fix anything, but I now understand that they and Disk Utility can only repair the directory. As it was explained to me, SMART was set up to give warning of hard drive failure so that you could rescue your data before the hard drive dies altogether. You can disable it I think, but that's like putting black tape over the warning light in your car that lights up if you are running out of oil--possible to do, but not a good idea.
So if your SMART status is failing, then the only cure is to replace the hard drive. The hard drive can work for a while, but it's on its way out.
Here's a little background information on SMART status:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000184.htm
And I hope this was just a rhetorical question! -
Connecting IPOD video to surround sound HELP PLEASE!
Hi!
I have been trying to connect my ipod to my surrond sound system at home, but everytime I plug it in all it says is "Do not disconnect" and won't let me go to my menu to play songs. Any suggestions?
Thanks!I tried that but it didn't work... I need to get my ipod to not say "do not disconnect" in order to play from the menu.... does that make sense? It's plugged in correctly and is a brand new ipod so I'm not sure why it isn't working. I called apple, but since my surround sound is an RCA and not an apple device they can't help me....

Macbook Pro Slow/Disk space help please
I have mad skills in other areas, but not computer management. Help appreciated!
My older Macbook Pro is slowing down. Websites are slow to load, switching from one app to another takes way too long. I looked up reasons and low disk space seems likely. I ran EtreSoft and got the into below.
My confusion: I can't figure out what is taking up 150 gig of space. I have tons of pics and videos, but still only 38 gig worth.
Any advice? Thanks for your help!

Macbook Pro - Lion - Snow Leopard - help please!
Hi there.
I've just bought a second-hand Macbook Pro through ebay which has come with Lion pre-installed. I keep being prompted to do a software update but can't do this as (my understanding is) the Lion software belongs to the previous owner and not the computer itself. The apple ID associated with lion is not mine, and I do not know the previous owners password.
I would like to do a clean install anyway to make sure I erase all the previous owners data and assumed I could do this by inserting my RETAIL copy of snow leopard (which I used to upgrade my original Macbook) into the new macbook pro, pressing C on start-up and then doing erase and install. This would then allow me to upgrade my Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion via the app store and everything would properly assign over to me, I would legitimately own the software etc etc and all would be fine.
However, the Macbook seems to not like the Snow Leopard disc and on some further investigation it seems I can't 'downgrade' the software (even though I want to put it straight back up again). So my question is, what do I do now?! I'm assuming there is a way around this and someone helpful and clever will know what to do :-)
Thanks in advance :-)As the MacBook Pro you have bought came with OS X Lion, you can't install any older operating system because its hardware is not supported. That's the reason why you can't install Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
What you have to do is to contact with Apple in order to deauthorize the Mac and all its software (OS X, iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) from the old owner's Apple ID > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 First try to do it, and if Apple tells you that the old owner has to do it, contact with him/her.
Near all people who sell their old Mac with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion preinstalled do the same error, and it's serious: if the hard drive gets damaged, for example, you won't be able to reinstall OS X, so you can't do anything -
Macbook Pro weird issue need help please
Just updated this Macbook Pro 2.16 ghz to 3 gigs ram and installed Leopard. Screen won't show at all, is all black though the machine seems to boot. The OS disc is in the optical drive, though can't boot to it nor can it be ejected.
Strangest thing I've ever seen. Anyone have a thought on this?
Regards
MikeYou might try working through the steps in this article--hopefully the resets will help:

If the disc won't eject by normal means, here is something else to try:
