MacBook to AppleTV Sync

Is there a way to copy my Movies and Shows from my laptop to my Apple TV then removing them from my laptop without them being removed from the Apple TV. I defeats the purpose of the Apple TV if it can only hold what you download to it.
Also, Why did I loose all of my Apple TV downloads on my Apple TV when I removed them from my Laptop. Shouldn't they stay on the device they were initially downloaded to ?

Stengel Media,
Content is synchronized between the Apple TV and the library it is synced with. This means a change to one or the other, is updated or synchronized to the other.
If you add a movie on one, it gets synced to appear on both.
If you remove a move on one, it gets synced to remove it from the other.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

    Hi ChristianHelpplz,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like your iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes on your Mac, but your iPhone 6 is working normally.
I recommend starting with these steps to troubleshoot your iPod touch and connection with your Mac:
    Check your USB connections
Unplug other USB devices from your Mac and try again.
    Try a different USB port.
    Try a different USB cable.
    Restart your device
Restart your iOS device or reset your iPod.
    Restart your Mac
Turn your Mac off and back on.
    Update your software
Check for software updates on your Mac.
    Check for an iTunes update.
    Check your security software
If you have security software installed, learn how to resolve issues between iTunes and your security software.
    From:

If you've tried these steps and your iPod touch is still not recognized, try placing it into Recovery Mode next:

Tunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • I have my ipad, iphone, and macbook pro all synced together.  I receive all my emails on the macbook and iphone just fine, but don't receive all emails on my ipad.  Some go to Trash because it says they're improperly formatted.  What gives?

I have my ipad, iphone, and macbook pro all synced together, which generally works fine.  I receive all emails from senders in my address book in my Macbook Pro and iPhone, but some end up in Trash on my iPad, with the message, "This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted.  Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program.  text/plain"  They appear to be mainly from competing platforms, android, etc.  Is there a workaround for this problem?
    Thanks-

Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.

  • Since updating my iPhone my Macbook will not sync I believe its because I am on OSX10.5.8 can i download the new OSX software?

Since updating my iPhone my Macbook will not sync I believe its because I am on OSX10.5.8 can i download the new OSX software?

You will need to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 in order to update iTunes to sync with your iPhone.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:

  • Macbook mail not syncing with other devices after Maverick

After downloading Maverick on my macbook as well as on my imac, the mail on my macbook is not syncing with my other devices.  My imac, iphone, and ipad are working and syncing as before downloading Maverick, but the mail in my macbook is not working properly.  I have already done all current updates, any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Please disregard this post.  I've found the answer to my own question!

  • Why iPhone & MacBook don't sync messages?

Why iPhone & MacBook don't sync messages?

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

  • My macbook air cannot sync with my office microsoft exchange 2010 mail server

My macbook air cannot sync with my office microsoft exchange 2010 mail server.
It used to work perfectly, and then I lost connection and was never able to establish one. I re-istalled my e-mail account several times, no success.

I am sure all of you got your email issues sorted out by now but i was having trouble settings up exchange email on my Iphone 5S, and the problem i found was to go to settings, icloud, then log into icloud with your apple id first (before setting up the exchange email).  Once i logged into my icloud account on my Phone 5S, the exchange server email starting working and synching right away.
to confirm this worked, i even deleted my email account and deleted my Icloud accounts both from my iphone was able to simulated the same exact problem (exchange server would not sync with my Iphone 5S) until i logged back into my Icloud account on my 5S.
Again once i logged into Icloud, the exchange server issues went completely away.
Just wanted to post this so anyone else having the issue could see.

  • AppleTV sync and Network home directories

I am unable to see the AppleTV device in more than one location, using the same login account.
I have an Xserve that contains user accounts in Open Directory. This Xserve also manages user home directories. This allows me to log on to any machine with the same account and get to my home folder. Do not confuse this with what I believe is called Mobile accounts where the home directory is copied locally to each machine and is kept in sync with the server. Once I log out, nothing remains on the client machine.
So, turned on my AppleTV, logged into my Xserve since it was not being used. This account is also not "local" to the Xserve, i.e. not under /Users/. Launched iTunes, saw the AppleTV, typed in the 5 digit code, and watch the AppleTV sync. OK, no issues. Logged off the Xserve. Logged onto the desktop using the same account I just used on the Xserve. Launched iTunes, no AppleTV listed. Not cool!
Is AppleTV restricted to syncing to one computer, one account, one ip address, or one MAC address? If it is one computer how does it know the different machines?

Thanks folks for the comments but I don't believe I am coming across correctly.
Patience this is a bit compplicated
    Infrustructure:
    1. Xserve1 running Open Directory, managing multiple client computers and users to include user home directory location via Workgroup Manager.
    2. Xserve2 handling 7 Tera Bytes of home directory storage. Repeat 7 Tera Bytes of home directory storage.
    3. Many Mac desktops running 10.4.10. Only one local account, we'll call him local-admin on any of these machines which is the local admin account for that machine. Absolutely no other information for users resides on these machines.
When User1 logs onto Desktop1, Desktop1 makes a query for information from Xserve1. Xserve1 response saying the login is correct and that User1's home directory is located on Xserve2. User1 is now logged into Desktop1. Open a Finder window and if you did not know any better you would think User1 was a local user to Desktop1 because you see in Finder on the left column you have the standard items appear such as a "Home" icon next to the username, Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, etc display. Click on anyone of them and you are in the proper place. User1 loggs off of Desktop1.
User1 now logs onto Desktop2 for whatever reason. Maybe Desktop1 was being used by User34. Desktop2 repeats what Desktop1 did. Makes the call to Xserve1, mounts the home from Xserve2. If you were to go back to Desktop1 you would find no trace of User1 except maybe in log files. The only user listed in MachintoshHD -> Users or in Unix terms /Users would be local-admin. So User1 is the only user and the iTunes library located in User1's home directory is the only library being dealt with.
    On to AppleTV:
User1 loggs into Desktop1. Types in code to lock Desktop1 as the syncing source for User1's library. What was not initially understood was AppleTV also is locking Desktop1 as the streaming source for User1's library. You will see in a moment how I found this out. User1 selects the Photos to sync, turns off Movie syncing, selects Music etc. Sync finishes. AppleTV can play content can switch to streaming source and play the videos. User1 logs off Desktop1 and AppleTV acknowledges this by greying out User1's library as a streaming source.
User1 logs into Desktop2. User1 notices AppleTV still shows User1's library is greyed put as a streaming source. Shouldn't that no longer be greyed out since it is the same library? OK, lets add Desktop2 as a New Additional Streaming source. Types in the code that AppleTV displays on User1's library on Desktop2. The Sources screen on AppleTV now changes slightly. The new streaming source is added below a white line. The AppleTV source is still white letters and the original streaming source above the line is still greyed out. The new streaming source is selected and content is viewable. User1 logs off of Desktop2. The new streaming source greys out as expected.
User1 logs back into Desktop1 to sync some more photos to the AppleTV. Desktop1 is used since that is the original syncing computer. iTunes is launched. User1 waits, and waits, and waits. The AppleTV device never appears back in iTunes. Checking the AppleTV, all content is gone. User1 logs back onto Desktop2 to see if streaming still works. Nope, streaming no longer works.
Spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Apple support. Nice bunch of folks. Spoke with multiple tiers of AppleTV support and even had a gentleman on from the Enterprise Division on the phone. They are elevating this up higher and promise to get back with me. Hoping.
    Complicated, yes.
My thoughts on how to solve this, don't lock the device to a computer, lock the device to an account for syncing. Also, don't automatically lock a streaming source when locking a syncing source.

  • Sync MacBook like appleTV or iPod

It can't be done yet but I'd love to see this feature added to iTunes (yeah, I submitted this to Apple iTunes Feedback ... just wanted to see how many others would use this feature too).
So I just got a Mac mini to be my primary media library (large attached storage) & connected it to the little LCD TV in my bedroom. My primary computer is still the MacBook provided by my job. Now instead of having to find creative ways to try to keep my libraries in sync here my suggestion:
Why not have the option in iTunes to sync a laptop the same way you would an appleTV or an iPod?
So from your primary Mac you could select the playlists, # of unwatched movies/TV episodes/video podcasts/etc. you want downloaded to your laptop. The only difference would be that the sync could happen in both directions because you could buy/load new media into iTunes on the laptop which you would ultimately want on your main Mac.
No doubt there are currently solutions on how to make sometime kinda, sorta like this happen. But how great would it be if it was built in to iTunes?

Don't think it'll happen because of piracy.

  • New MacBook Pro cannot sync with 1st gen Apple TV

    Hello,
just bought a new MacBook Pro and have linked it to my 1st generation Apple TV (160GB) but it will not sync.
I keep getting this error message (something about firewall blocking port 3689) but I don't have the firewall on. The support on the apple website doesn't really offer any other resolutions apart from changing the firewall to allow the connection but mine is already deactivated anyway.
    Help !

Same problem here. Update hasn't helped. Both iPhone and iPad quite happily continue to remote control AppleTV. iTunes even allows airstreaming to the AppleTV. However it NEVER appears as a device in iTunes, whether or not I use the iPhone/iPad plugged in trick. Nor have recent updates helped.
AppleTV used to work fine with previous macbook from which I transferred all user info etc). I know Apple wants us to think of such devices as "stream targets" but I prefer to have the music collection on the AppleTV. Very frustrating waste of time that it doesn't work as it should.
