MacBook to Hitachi 42HDT79 HD TV

I'm looking to hook my MB into my TV so as to have a big-*** monitor (and to watch DVDs etc.). What adapters/HDMI cabling etc. is recommended by y'all?

That depends on what connections you have on your TV.
If you have a VGA connection you'll need this

If you have DVI you'll need

If you have HDMI you'll need the above DVI cable plus a DVI to HDMI connector
I'll leave out the svideo/composite connector since you'll most likely want either of the above.
As far as extending the cable, honestly cable is cable for the most part. Newegg has some very good prices on VGA/DVI/DVI to HDMI cables. Or some like monoprice. If your cables start costing more than your MB just say no

  • Options for repairing/replacing 13" Macbook 160GB Hitachi drive?

The hard drive in my nephew's white 13" Macbook (2007) died recently. While Apple has a 1 year warranty on the drive, Hitachi has a 3 year warranty on this drive (Model: HTS541616J9SA00). I went to the website listed on the drive label (www.hitachigst.com) but couldn't figure out where the serial number of the drive is on the Apple label for the drive (it's non-standard). Hitachi requires the S/N in order to validate the warranty. If I can't get a replacement drive from Hitachi, can I just buy one from some place like Fry's? Is there a firmware issue (since the Hitachi label says: Apple HDD Firmware on it)? Or am I stuck with buying a replacement (presumably at a higher cost) only from Apple?

Thanks for the information. I forgot I could run System Profiler from the install disk to find the serial number. Unfortunately, Hitachi's web site claims it's invalid, so I guess that means they don't support OEM drives (which probably means I won't be choosing them for the replacement drive).
Parts (including drives) sold to OEMs are done so at a steep discount. The computer manufacturer is solely responsible for any warranty repairs under its own terms. That's standard business practice.
If you buy a drive that's not labelled as being OEM (the Apple logo is on your original drive somewhere marking it as sold to an OEM), you'll have full warranty rights.

  • What is the best Harddrive company to install into my 2008 Macbook, Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Samsung?

The HDD in my 2008 MacBook just failed on me, and the Genius' at the store said I just need to purchase and install a new HDD and they will install Mac OS X for me for free. I was looking around and I found a few HDD but I'm not familar with Mac HDD I dont know if there is a specific company that i NEED to use, or if i can install any HDD fom any company. Obviously i know i need a 2.5" Form Factor HDD with SATA 3.0/Gbps but which company should i purchase....
    Seagte
    Hitachi
    Western Digital
    Samsung
All ive found decent sized HDD at very reasonable prices.
    Thank you for your responses

If you search through all the Mac forums on the internet you'll find that people say "Never put a (Insert name of company here) hard drive in your MacBook, only put a (Insert name of company here) drive in."
That's because every company makes drives that can fail quickly and drives that can go forever. They all try the best that they can to make a good drive.
Go with the one that has the best warranty for the price.

  • Trying to install snow leopard on my Macbook Pro.  After already having problems with Grey screen, blinking file with a question mark, etc.  Computer now says that one of the hard drives is failing. The "hitachi" drive says it's failing in disc utility.

o.k.  So, I've been tinkering with several "self help" fixes for several days now with no positive results.  I'll explain my initial problems and then end with my most current situation.  In hopes that someone out there will have a good suggestion or possibly remedy for the issues i'm facing
First, my problem started after my wife played a game on my macbook pro and the computer froze.  She went into a panic and decided to shut down via power button.  When computer restarted she got the blinking file/grey screen and that problem continued for a couple of days before I began using steps from various support topics from apple concerning the grey screen/blinking file folder.
Ultimately, yesterday I decided to erase my Macintosh HD file as one tip suggested.  Following the brief online and on screen (via the process) tips that were there.  Once that was completed I attempted to reinstall snow leopard (my most current version on hand) into the pc.
At first, I thought this would work.  It looked promising.  But, after several hours the installation screen returned with failure.  I attempted to repeat.  And, even repair drives during this try and re-try process.
Now, today, one of the drives..  "hitachi..." states that it's failing and is in red letters with no ability to repair via the disc utility screen.  The Macintosh HD drive shows that it's o.k. But, this drive is listed under the HItachi drive so I think that's where a problem might lay.
So, I guess my question really revolves around.. What if anything can I do to get the hitachi drive back up?  (short of taking it to a repair facility and replacing.)
And, how on earth can i get my OSX back up to I have a laptop again.
Operating on a macbook pro here.  It's my lifeline.  Otherwise, I am using a Windows desktop that i'm not that fond of.  lol
I'm trying to bring this 2006 laptop back to life.  Trying to avoid a rather expensive repair or the purchase of a new laptop.  Also expensive...
    Any help would be appreciated.

Well, running on a 2006 model.  I did not have a startup disc.  Initially, it booted up on original software in 2006.  Since then, I've upgraded to 10.6 via a box set.  And, since then I think I popped it up to lion.
All I have on a disc is snow leopard.  And, I can't get farther than the setup screen due to hard drive.  I'm taking to a apple authorized repair store right now.  We'll see what they tell me .  I'm just going to weigh the cost of repair vs. buying new.
Another bad, stupid thing is I had no means of backing up my stuff.  So, I might have lost things like music, vids, etc.  we'll see if they can recover.  If the cost is too much for repair I might just forget it and start over with a new system.  Just not sure at this point.

  • Hitachi X500 external hard drive not working with MacBook Pro

I purchased a new Hitachi X500 500GB external USB hard drive today and when I plug it into my MacBook Pro the drive makes a clicking noise and never mounts. When I try it on my wives MacBook it boots up fine. I bought one early in the day and the same thing happened, so I returned it and got a new one and the same thing happens. Any thoughts?
Looks like it's formatted with Fat32 when I look at it on the MacBook.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Does the external drive have it's own power brick? If not, it's bus-powered and may not be getting enough juice to run.
Also try all the USB ports on your MBP. Although they are "supposed" to be producing the same amount of power, posts around here suggest that's not always the case.
If the drive does not have a power brick, you can get an inexpensive powered USB hub (it has a power brick) like this one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Belkin/F5U403P/
Adding a powered hub fixes problems with bus-powered USb external drives about 95% of the time.

  • I've used a Hitachi multimedia projector with my previous MacBook with Snow Leopard but I can't get it to project data from my new MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?

My new MacBook Pro with 10.8.4 does not seem to work with my Hitachi multimedia projector which works find with my older MacBook running 10.6.8. Is there anything I can do to get the projector to recognize my Mac or is it the other way around? (It would be nice to just carry one machine instead of two. Besides it's not a good advertisement for the new MacBook Pro!

Are you using the same cable and input connector with both systems?
Are you using the same (or corresponding) settings on both systems?

I have a hitachi hard drive from an old pc. I would like to transfer pics and music to my new macbook air. What cord do I need to make this possible?

Some external cases include cords others (like some printers) consider the cord to be "optional" - read the package or product description. Other World Computing, HH Greg, OfficeMax, any box store or local computer store should have a case for your old drive.
You are fortunate in that the Mac will automagically read the DOS format disk... you'd never be able to connect and old Mac HD to a WinDUHows machine.

  • Recently installed a 1TB hitachi travelstar hard drive into my Macbook 10.6.8  however Time Machine says not configured hence cannot back anything up

Recently installed a 1TB Hitachi travelstar hard drive into my Macbook (13inch mid 2010) OS X 10.6.8 .
However now having problems with configuring , latest issue my Time Machine says Not Configured hence cannot back up using this device !
    Can anyone help ?

You installed the new hdd with new install of Mac OS .. or did you recover your old TM setup??
If TM cannot locate the Time Capsule .. is it visible in airport utility or finder??
Are you even using a TC?? If you are using an external drive you need to spell it all out.
Time Machine may not recognise the old backup.. you can usually inherit the old one.
    See B5 and B6 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Otherwise use A4.. delete the existing TM setup and reconfigure it from scratch. If you do that TM should discover and reuse the old backups if possible.. but a new hard disk might not be possible it may need to start over.

  • Hitachi 7K200 200 GB 7200 RPM Macbook Pro C2D

I recently installed a 7K200 200 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB Buffer, into my Macbook Pro (15", C2D, 2.16) and I noticed vibrations on my left palm. The vibrations are very noticeable when I am on the computer. The stock drive was silent and I did not feel any vibrations. Do you feel this vibration on your left palm as well? Is this normal or do you think that it has to do something with the drive? I am quite sure that I installed the drive correctly. Thanks for your input.

As kappy mentions, be sure you replaced the drive correctly with all the rubber dampeners etc. It is possible you have a bad drive as well. My Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm drive does not vibrate.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Hitachi HDD makes Low Frequency Sound!

I've noticed from some other boards that the Hitachi HDD drive on 15 inch MacBook pro's, create some sort of low frequency noise that can be soothing to some, and very annoying to others.
I have noticed this sound comming from my Mac, and frankly, it hurts my brain.
I want to contact Apple store to see if they can fix the problem, but really, I wondered if there is any diagnostic or repair i can do at home to fix it.
Hopefully someone could answer my Question,
    Thank you in Advance,
    Daniel.

If this is just a normal noise that the drive makes, There may not be much to be done other than to replace it with a different brand of drive. If you think the noise might be abnormal, you could check out the overall health of the drive with S.M.A.R.T. Utility:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
You can download this and run it several times for free.
    Good luck!

  • Will this Hitachi internal hard drive work with my macbook?

I have a Hitachi 250Gb SATA 3.0Gb/s internal hard drive left over from my PC. the info for the drive is here:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/products/Deskstar_T7K250
It is an older drive, but it says it is compatible with Mac OSX 10.3 and the Power Mac G4. If I get one of those internal hard drive enclosures that use USB cable to connect to computers, will it show up on my macbook and be useable? If so, which should I use, firewire or USB?

I think you've misunderstood, I know it's not a hard drive to put into the computer; I want to use it as an external drive using something like this with the 3.5" SATA hard drive:

  • Why doesn't my macbook air connect with Hitachi projector

I have a new Macbook air. I have developed a powerpoint presesentation and got the adapter to connect to projector - Hitachi-CPX4015WN.
ALas, Hitachi does not recognize my computer.

    Hello redffox,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Air!  I found an article with steps you can take to troubleshoot issues with external displays like your projector.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to the internal display.  I recommend reviewing the section titled "No video or no signal, image distortion, 'snow,' or flickering" in the following article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
