MacBook To Monitor

My mac screen is broken so I bought a monitor and hooked it up to there, turned it on and saw just the picture how do I bring up my files??

Is your MacBook screen cracked or dark? If cracked can you access the System Preferences>Display pane and move it over to the external monitor? If dark can you shine a flashlight on the screen and see your desktop? If so move the Display pane over to the external monitor.
Right now the display is set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display there should be an Arrangement tab on the MacBook screen when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
Or you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box to show the same image on both screens and continue to use the MacBook's keyboard and trackpad..

This what I have been trying......  Maybe my eyes are screwed up or don't understand the process....
What I have been trying to do is squint and make the apple disappear by moving the sliders around in each step. Is that correct?

  • How would I go from my macbook out monitor to 3 compisite cables out?

basically I want to feed my macbook pro monitor feed out to a 3 way composite cable. Whats the best method. most composite cables I see are for vga not dvi. Should I use the dvi vga adapter and then connect a VGA composite to it, or is there an easier way?

    Note:
IT WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPONENT VIDEO SOURCES TO A REGULAR COMPUTER MONITOR OR HDTV unless you monitor specifically has this capability. Most do not.
THIS CABLE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER'S DVI PORT TO THE COMPONENT INPUT ON YOUR HDTV unless your video card supports component out function through it's DVI port (please confirm with your video cards documentation before purchasing. Some require adapter, not this cable.)
This cable will not convert RGBHV into Y, Pr, Pb.

This cable will not support Y, Cr, Cb.

  • Macbook + External Monitor + HD Video = 89 (C) Degrees

    Mid 2008 Macbook, 2.4ghz, 4 gig ram,
    BenQ 1920x1080 monitor via DVI
How concerned should I be with such a high temperature? The CPU has peaked at 89 degrees but it runs consistently hotter (65-70) on the external monitor.

    Hi, Amanda.
I am guessing you are receiving a message: "This movie cannot be played because a display that is not authorized to play protected movies is connected."  To view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and also support HDCP.  If the monitor is HDCP compliant, then the issue would be related to the connect between the Mac and the monitor.  I would recommend trying with one of the approved digital connectors.

  • Macbook, External Monitor (TV) and Windows

I have been trying (for ages) to get Windows to display on the TV. I can do it on the Mac side, with a DVI connector, but Windows doesn't work. No that I have upgraded to Leopard, I had hopes. Is there some setting I need to make this work? The Macbook says it is using Intel Mobile adapter.
When the DVI is hooked up in Windows my screen flashes. The external monitor 2 will not accept that it is there.
    Thanks

As far as I know, Apple only sells one kind of DVI connector for around $20. Based on your statement about inputs to your TV, you should get an Apple Mini DVI-->DVI cable. Then, you'll need a DVI to HDMI cable to plug into your TV. I don't know your setup, but you probably should get one that is 6' unless you need a longer one.
You will also need a separate audio cable with jacks at each end similar to the kind that fit into your headphone out from your MB. In order to get sound, you will need a audio input that is tied in with your HDMI input. I don't know if your set has this setup. I have a Sony with 3 HDMI inputs, but only one of them has a separate audio input jack. If you don't have this audio input jack, you can run your audio to a separate stereo amp. Or you can go with the Component option which will definitely have an audio input.

  • Detect displays seems to have quit working? The secondary monitor is bleeding into the MacBook Pro monitor. How can I fix this?

I am using a MacBook Pro 2009, Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8). All of a sudden last night after a long day of work, my monitor resolution changed without warning and the secondary monitor display started bleeding into my laptop monitor. When I go to detect displays, it doesn't fix the problem. It looks like I need to switch to a larger display setting and the largest setting has disappeared.(The display seems to default to this setting where my screen bleeds into the laptop monitor.) When this started happening last night, I immediately shutdown and restarted to see if this would fix the problem. So far, it's still not looking too good.
I also tried shutting the laptop and using the external monitor only. When I do this, the monitor freaks out and keeps flashing on long enough for me to input a password. Then it flashes off, the computer and dipslay goes to sleep and I have to re enter my password to exit sleep mode and the process starts all over again.
Here are screen shots of the two monitors side by side:
    http://danisco.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/monitors.png
(Notice the weird overlap - it's not keeping me from working, but it's super annoying!)
Any ideas on how I can try and fix this? OR do I need to get help from Apple directly. Thank you in advance for any suggestions on this!

Okay - this issue seems to have resolved on it's own. Yea!
I did find a thread that suggested resetting the PRAM/NVRAM so I did this, restored the external monitor to factory settings and went into Disk Utility and repaired disk permissions and verified disk permissions.
Here is a link to reset the PRAM/NVRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
These things may have helped resolve this issue. I can't tell what worked because it was hours after I did all these things that my monitor and computer decided they liked each other again. If you have a similar issue, maybe these steps will help you resolve your problem too.
    Hope this is helpful!

  • How do I connect my defunct MacBook Pro (monitor's dead, HD works fine) to another computer to transfer files?

I have an old MacBook Pro whose monitor recently died. I took it to the genius bar to get assessed and ended up buying a MacBook Air to replace it. The genius hooked up my external hard drive to the MacBook Pro and did something with the way she started up the MacBook Pro so that I could get my files off of it and onto the external hard drive while it was plugged into another computer so I could see the files there. However, I failed to transfer some files that I really want. Now I'm trying to figure out how to transfer them on my own. And I can't make it work.
Here's what I have to work with:
    - The monitor-less MacBook Pro, which still turns on.
    - The new MacBook Air.
    - The external hard drive, which I connect to the old MacBook Pro via 6-pin FireWire and the new MacBook Air via a thurnderbolt-to-9-pin-FireWire-to-6-pinFireWire converter.
Would love to hear your ideas so I can avoid another genius bar appointment if possible (as they take forever).

    "Target Disk Mode"
FireWire or ThunderBolt, whichever you can make work in common.

  • I currently use a Samsung TV with an Apple TV to duplicate my MacBook Pro monitor.  How can I use this system as a extended (not mirror) monitor?

Does anyone have a solution that allows me to use a Samsung TV connected via the AppleTV to my MacBook Pro as an extended (not mirror) monitor?
    Thanks.

I would recommend upgrading your laptop. Does your current laptop have an HDMI port? If so, connect your Mac to your TV with an HDMI cable. Your TV must be compatible, if it is, you will have to understand that it will be no where near the quality of AirPlay.

  • Help connecting macbook to monitor

I am about to pick up a new 24" LCD display, but I can't decide between an HP with 2 DVI inputs, or the Dell with rave reviews.
The monitor will be hooked up to my desktop G5, and to laptop when it's stationed.
Will having the macbook hooked up via DVI make a big difference over having it hooked up via VGA?
There is almost a $150 difference between the two monitors.

I guess it ultimately depends on what you are going to be using the monitor for. If you buy an expensive lcd then you can take advantage of the digital input capability. If you are only going to be using it a dual monitor with limited uses then save the money and go vga.

  • Connecting MacBook to Monitor

My MacBook came with Apple's DVI to VGA Display Adapter. I tried connecting my Mac to a Dell Monitor using this connection piece but nothing came of it. Do I have to change preferences on my Mac? Is it even compatible (even though the connection fit)? What am I doing wrong?

Check on the menu bar System preferences, monitor if there is something checked off to be turned on. There is a Check Monitor or search monitor tab in the pop-up widow ( I'm currently using a italian version of Mac OS, so I can't be precise how tab caption are exactly written in your english version) and let mac do the search. It should work. I occasionally did the same connection some time ago at office with a Dell 19". and it worked.

  • TV as Macbook Pro monitor video quality

    Hi there,
Hoping for some advice here. I've been using an Apple mini displayport to HDMI cable to use my tv as a monitor for my Macbook Pro when streaming online video. It's hard to describe, but the video doesn't look as smooth on the TV as it does on the MBP itself - almost as though the frame rate is different - (like I say it's to describe). On my TV, the default 'PC input' is VGA rather than the HDMI, so would I notice any difference or improvement if I was to use the VGA input instead?
    Thanks.

Look in System Preferences ➜ Displays ➜ Arrangement.  Is display mirroring turned on?  If so, turn it off as the TV will then only be displaying at the same resolution as your 13" MBP and not utilising the full 1920x1080 resolution that it's capable of.

  • MacBook Pro monitor turns on... when lid lifted

OK, first and foremost before some snarky reply comes - I am posting in Lion, because this problem is unique to Lion - I never had it prior to yesterday.
I start-up or wake my MacBook Pro and the lid is down so the monitor is off - I'm using an external monitor.  However, once the laptop wakes or fully starts-up - if I lift the lid, the built in monitor comes on (it would stay off, pre-Lion).  I like to open my lid for better sound and I think for better ventilation.
Can someone tell my why this is happening, and is there a way to go back to the previous behavior where it would stay powered off?

This is already being debated here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15662934#15662934
So far it would seem it is a bug and so far other than using 'SwitchResX' there is no way to circumnavigate the issue.
Submit a bug report and hopefully apple will listen.

  • Macbook pro monitor

hello, I would like to connect my macbook pro to an imac (white - the old kind) to use it as a second monitor. how do I do this?
    thanks a lot

Didn't work with the old iMacs. Only works with the newer 27" iMac.

  • Macbook to Monitor problem!!

I have the new macbook pro 13 and I just purchased an asus led 1080p monitor but when hooking it up to with hdmi it only displays in 480p. Any ideas what I need to do? I have tried selecting 1080p in system preferences and its just a black screen.

I have tried selecting 1080p in system preferences and its just a black screen.
Assuming the mDP plug is properly inserted there are two things to check in the Displays preferences.
    1. See if the monitor appears in the Display preferences' Arrangement tab.
    2.  If it does appear, and since you cannot currently see anything on the monitor, click the Gather Windows button to bring the Displays preference window on to your main monitor (the one with the menu bar).  Then check the refresh rate.  It probably should be 60Hz.

  • Macbook as monitor with iMac

I have a 27" iMac (last year's) core i7, with minidisplayport, and an aluminum Macbook (the 2ghz one) with minidisplayport.  I've hooked them together, and my iMac will take the Macbook's signal, but I don't know how to get the Macbook to serve as a second monitor via the miniDP cable.  Any tips?

Is is possible for me to use the MacBook as a second monitor/dual screen setup when using Lightroom?
    Yes.
what would I need to connect the two computers?
    ScreenRecycler and a network connection.
