Firewire 800 if it is present on your Macbook, otherwise Firewire 400.

  • Black MacBook with white cables?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am really curious if apple has an explanation as to why they shipped the Black MacBooks with white cables and a white remote.
    I find this annoying.

you serious man? you're quote their 80s models as an
rebuttal? sorry, the recent motiff for apples has
    been white (their laptops/ipods/imacs)
I can't help it if "always" to you only means the last seven or so years. My last powerbook was grey.
if you think the choice to include a white powercord
was a deliberate aesthetic choice (and not a matter

basically to me this is such an asenine aspect to

Uh, I'm really unconcerned with what perplexes you. I am perplexed as to why they would ship a black computer with a different color accessories. If price actually IS the reason for this and not just a guess on your part then answer the question. If you don't know then don't answer it.
Now you are beginning to annoy me.

You are not alone. Thousands have this problem, on various models of Macs. Short answer, it has something to do with the disk going to sleep (possibly?). You can't do anything about it and Apple won't address the problem. Maybe you should buy a time capsule. Just keep giving them money and use their proprietary equipment.

  • Macbook - Keynote  - Projector Problems

    Hi,
I have followed step-by-step, how to set-up my macbook for keynote on projector presentation using this: http://bit.ly/aorRgA.
However, as soon as i plug my macbook to the projector - the screen on my macbook shrinks to the center - framed on the sides with black bars. Then, all the icons on my desktop, even my cursor disappears.
On the projector screen am able to see all the elements of what should be on my presenter monitor (macbook), so looking at the projector's screen i can at least tinker with my desktop - i click on displays, and only when i click on mirroring does my macbook show what's on my desktop.
When this happens, i notice that the elements on my desktop looks larger - and, as i said earlier - everything is shrunken to the middle.
WHILE am relieved that my slide-show plays, i still need my presenter notes - and apparently "mirroring" does not allow that.
Am gonna be using the very same equipment and tools for my lectures for 6 more months - so, help, please.

    Mmmm ...
Are you able to connect your MB to another projector/external diplay? (Any old monitor should do!) If this work it would at least rule out a fault with the cables/connections.
I think of this because I am now having issues with my DVI/VGA adaptor for the second time. I think that this is the achilles heel when it comes to projecting images from you Mac. The older 'legacy' ports make for more robust connections!
My experience has been that my PowerBook can be a bit fussy if I sleep the unit first before making the connection. Similarly a new Sanyo projector will not display unless i toggle it to the 'video' input and then back to 'computer'.
Hope you get it nailed soon!

  • Macbook sees projector but nothing displayed

My macbook 2.0GHz automatically detects the sanyo projector, but the projector shows nothing and after awhile goes to sleep because of no signal. They're connected using Mini-DVI to VGA adater. My older Powerbook G4 works fine. I've tried changing the resolutions in display preferences, tried mirroring, tried restarting with projector connected. Any solutions?

Is the cable run between the Mac and the projector inordinately long, or is a standard length, 1.8 meter VGA cable being used?

  • 17'macbook pro + projector

    Hi all
I have late 2009 mbp 17'  OS 10.8 and have purchased a digital projector with the view to play dvds / movies etc. I have mini display port to HDMI cable and when connected the image on the projector screen flickers and is not smooth? What could be the cause the cable? Do I need a mini display to HDMI convertor and a straight HDMI-HDMI cable any advise would be greatly appreciated
    cheers Keith

    Hi Keith Davison,
Thanks for the question. Your MacBook Pro definitely supports video signals via Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters (see About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters). If you are experiencing issues with this connection, you can use the following resource to troubleshoot:

  • Trying to connect my MacBook Pro to cable

I live in a dorm and we are given cable inputs to connect to a TV, thing is I don't have a TV. I bought a Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter in hopes of watching TV on my laptop. I can't find what cable to connect though. Can someone help me?

That is not how you watch television on a computer. To watch television programmes are a computer you need something call a TV tuner (it is an extra piece of hardware that is the size of a USB flash drive). There is a very good one for Macs. Its called EyeTV. It cost about $130 to $150. The video out that you're talking about is for external monitors or projectors for a presentation.

  • How do I use my macbook to watch cable tv?

Does anyone know the best way to hook my macbook up directly to a standard cable jack to watch tv?
    Thanks!
    Colette

    I prefer the eyetv products.

You cannot hook directly to a cable tv jack without an interface such as one of these.

  • HD video from MacBook to projector?

I have a MacBook (white) from late 2006. A while ago, I bought a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter to use my computer with my standard def. TV. Then, a couple months ago, I got a projector (Epson EX50), but when I use my adapter the quality is crappy. Would the quality be any better if I used the Component Video plug on the projecter with a Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter? I've used my friend's VGA adapter and there was HD resolutions available for the projector in the display preferences.

depending on your macbook model you may need a "converter", meritline.com/mini-hdmi-to-cvbs-converter-adapter---p-83103.aspx?source=fghdac& gclid=CO7J9NSU67QCFWGnPAodRBsAAw similar to this. Use a mini DVI to HDMI apple adaptor. if you have RGB connectors on your tv you want http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?seq=1&format=2&p_id=8125&CAWELAID= 1329456201&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CKW25beg67QCFaGPPAodRHAAfg

  • 32" SAMSUNG LCD not able to display Macbook through VGA Cable

New 32" Samsung (LA32A650 series 6) not picking up signal from Black Macbook. It's connected via VGA cable (mini DVI to VGA). Using a 5 meter, 15pin VGA cable which seems to work on a 20" DELL monitor (Macbook to Dell Monitor).
The Macbook sees the Samsung but the Samsung does not see the Macbook. Tried having both mirroring on and off...no luck. The PC option on the Samsung is still greyed out. Anybody have any other suggestions? I see in other posts where people are able to display their Macbooks to even bigger LCD's using a VGA setup so it must be possible.
Yes the Macbook is plugged in.
    Yes cables are connected correctly.
Yes the Mini DVI to VGA adapter works fine.
I know with some PC laptops you press Function F5 (or other F?). Anything like that for a Macbook?
What's the ideal display setting for the Macbook? I've dropped the display setting all the way down to 800x600 but still no luck. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or doing it in the wrong order?

    Ok...just an update.
I brought a pc laptop and my macbook to the store today. The 32" samsung LCD in the store did not pick up the signal on either laptops. HOWEVER. We hooked it up to a 42" sony LCD and no problems with the PC or macbook. So, the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and VGA cable are fine. A samsung service tech will be coming to the house next week. I will post their findings.
My suggestion so far would be bring your laptop and cables to any store before making a decision on which LCD you would like to purchase (that is if you care to use the LCD as an external monitor).

  • Ipod Shuffle 2nd gen isn't recognized by my MacBook with new cable.

I have an Ipod Shuffle 2nd gen, I used to charge it with the original dock that came with it, but my cat ate that and I had to buy a new cable. I'm a newbie to computer stuff so bear with me if the info I provide is insufficient. The cable I bought looks like this:
    http://www.reghardware.com/2009/03/13/ifixitshuffledisassembly/
But now when I connect it to my MacBook Pro it won't get recognized at all! Does this new sync cable only work with the latest generations of Ipod Shuffle? What gives?

The Apple store shows that the type of USB cable you bought is only compatible with the 3G and 4G shuffles.

The 2nd generation shuffle is compatible with the dock style USB cable:

  • Crease in macbook pro charger cable

Hi there, there's a small crease im my macbook pro 2011 charger cable. It is right before the bit you plug into the macbook pro and it's really annoying me as I'm worried it will tear. Is there any way i can remove this crease.
Also which is the correct way to put the mag safe charger in. do I have the wire go alongside the laptop or from behind?

    josephcraven1 wrote:

No. Make an appointment at an Apple store. Let the geniuses look at it.
do I have the wire go alongside the laptop or from behind?
Doesn't really matter, although from behind, unless you want to block ports.

  • MacBook Pro USB cable iPhone internet

    Hi
I am a management consultant and the only one I know who is Mac based down here in Sydney, Australia.
I use an iMac as my main office machine and configure a *MacBook Pro* using ChronoSync when I go interstate to see clients or run strategy workshops.
Now that it has finally arrived down-under, I want to buy an iPhone. However, before I commit to a phone carrier and a plan, I would like to know if it is possible to connect the *MBP to the iPhone* using the *USB cable* and *using that connection* go through to the internet so that I can use Entourage on the MBP to pick up my email etc.
I need to do this simply because I have organised all my client and project work using the *Project Center* in Entourage. I mean, connecting laptops to GSM phones to conntect to the internet or enterprise systems is not really new.
This afternoon I talked to the Geniuses in the new Apple Store here in Sydney and could not get a clear cut answer. Heck, the iPhone is also WiFi and Bluetooth enabled so there must be a way of doing this.
Any thoughts? Any one tried this yet?
    Regards
    Jai

It's kind of surprising that they missed this one. It has been the topic of much discussion all over the Apple forums over the past week or so.
But from the start, they did not allow access to any of the phone features themselves, especially those that are directly related to charges ATT would make...like voice dialing, etc...ATT offers Voice Connect as an add-on feature at cost....they also offer tethering at cost.
I know in the HTC forums at the ATT website, there was a lot of discussion about tethering and how they can tell you have tethered or not. Apparently ATT CAN tell the ISP numbers of connections, and they DO charge for tethering, even when it appears they should have no way of knowing.
I am sure that ATT put a kibbosh on the tethering App until they can figure out how to charge for it. It's a good 30 dollars MORE per month, above and atop the unlimited data plans. Thats income ATT isn't going to lose.
I am sure it went something like:
Apple lets tethering App slip through -- ATT sees it and calls Apple and cries Foul -- Apple pulls the app -- somehow it ends up back on the AppStore site -- ATT calls foul again, and it is removed for good until this is resolved.

  • Connecting Z-5500 to MacBook with Optical Cable?

How's it going, first post here just need one question answered. I just got Logitech's Z-5500 for Christmas, and everything is set-up working great with just using the headphone jack. All speakers are working when in Stereo (x2) mode, but I would like to connect the system to my Macbook using the an optical cable since you get a cleaner, better quality of sound.
I don't know anything about optical cables or how to connect it to my Macbook. I know the optical side of the cord goes in the back of the control panel for the Z-5500's but where does the other side go into the Macbook? Do I just need one cable? Any detailed help with links will help. Thanks a lot.

    Picked this up.
