Macbook to ps3?

is there any way to connect my macbook to my ps3 and add it to my network. i ve tried to hook up over ethernet, but its like the 2 wont find each other. is there a way to connect thru bluetooth at least as both are blurtooth capable, but when i scan for bluetooth on my macbook it wont find my ps3. no real reason for trying this other than curiosity, but i want it to work, so maybe i can transfer files from one to the other.

You don't need a crossover cable as at least the Mac is auto MDI/MDI-X.
The PS3 should use DHCP and you might encounter problems depending on wether you have the firewall turned on or not on the Mac.

  • Connecting Macbook to PS3 using Crossover Cable

I am attempting to connect my Playstation 3 to my Macbook. My Macbook is connected to a Telus internet stick which is successfully connected to the internet. I have just purchased a Nexxtech Crossover cable and have connected that between my Macbook and PS3.
The issue is getting my PS3 connected to the internet.
I have enabled internet sharing in system settings on the Mac.
For the PS3, I am assuming to go: network settings, internet connection settings, custom, wired connection, auto detect, and then manual ip address. The problem I believe is the settings for IP address, subnet mask, primary and secondary DNS. It is these fields of information that I don't know how to fill.
Much help is appreciated, I have been at this for hours.

  • Transfering Divx movies from Macbook to PS3 via usb

I recently purchased a PS3 in hopes of viewing my divx movies I currently have on my Macbook on it.  I know I can stream directly to the PS3 and I will deal with that in time.  However every time I transfer a movie to a usb stick and insert it in the PS3, the PS3 shows the stick as empty.
Is there a program or file I need to have to make these viewable?

12Grain, simple solution.  As long as your videos are in a compatible format for the PS3 you can get them to play off your FAT32 formatted USB.  Go the Video menu on PS3, highlight your USB stick, press the TRIANGLE button, toggle Display All, and you'll see all your videos.

  • Ext. USB HDD+AEBS+Windows Vista+Macbook Pro+PS3

As you can see from the title.
I am trying to access the media files on the disks connected to AEBS through Windows Vista.
Now on the Windows PC i see the disks (HFS+) as network drives, and i can add the files to the media player. But.....PS3 doesn't see the files.
Now if the files were on my PC and i set it up the same way, it works. No matter what the format of the disk is.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I would like to access the files without having the PC turned ON to run Media Server.
And No converting the disk to Fat32 and connecting the drive directly to the PS3 is not the answer. Good-luck transferring large files to the DISK.
So if anyone has a clue, or would like to share

yeah you can format the drive to HFS+ in Vista with Mac Drive 7. And yes Windows can read/write the drive that way but then again it really doesnt matter what format the drive is because you are not connecting the drive directly to PS3.
So once setup with AEBS and Windows and Apple. you can start Windows Media player and add the files to the library. The drive will show up as Network Disk which i cant put on Share for some reason. If i could then Media player will have no problems sharing that drive (Stream) to PS3.
So have to figure out how to 'share' the Netowrk Drive on Windows Vista.

  • Connection issues with PS3

Alright, I have failed miserably for hours trying to figure out why my PS3 won't connect with my MacBook after I configured the MacBook to share the internets. I am beyond frustrated and I'm just a regular dude who knows nothing about programming or computers. Right now I have the MacBook hardwired to the PS3 and attempted to manually enter the IP address and other info into the MacBook and PS3. I keep getting the same error on my PS3. The NAT type connection fails.
What can I do from start to finish to fix this. I just want to do some online gaming. Thanks!

As your PS3 is Hardwired to the Router and you have set a Static Ip to your PS3. Did you Opened the Ports for your PS3 on your Router? You need to do some settings on your Router so u dont face that problem anymore.

  • Can Macbook be used as router?

I have DSL internet with a Netgear WGR614 wireless router setup throughout my house. I have the DSL hooked up to my Dell desktop with another Dell laptop, my Macbook, and my Playstation 3 hooked up wirelessly. I was wondering if I could use my Macbook as sort of a router for my Playstation 3?
I have installed Linux on my PS3 and as of this time it is unable to support wireless interenet on the PS3 and the PS3 is also just generally faster when connected wired when online gaming. Seeing as how my Netgear is in another room I was hoping I could pick up the wireless signal with my Macbook and then run the ethernet cable from my Macbook to my PS3. Is this possible? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It can be made to work. Probably the easiest way would be to connect your MacBook to the wireless network, turn on Internet Sharing from AirPort to Built-in Ethernet, then run a cable between the MacBook and PS3. This inserts an extra layer of IP address translation (which you and the PS3 probably won't notice), but takes just a few clicks to set up. This can probably be done without using Internet Sharing, but that's probably more hassle than it's worth. You'd need to set up a subnet between the MacBook and PS3 (with static IP addresses), and add a static route to the WGR614 to make it aware of the additional subnet that's handled by the MacBook. OS X may require a low level setting through Terminal to enable routing through network interfaces.
But what you're proposing is to use an $1100+ computer to do the job of a device that can be had for $90 or less. The cheaper device will probably do a better job of it, and take less time to set up.
Google for a Linksys WGA54G Wireless Gaming Adapter and find the best price. It does exactly what you're asking, in a much smaller package. It claims to need a PC to set it up, though. I'd imagine that Netgear, Belkin, and other bigger names in home networking make a similar device.

  • View Mac screen on TV via a Sony PS3

    Hi,
Is it possible for me to view my computer on the TV or have an extended desktop onto my TV via my PS3?
I have the new Macbook (13" white) just released this month, a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV, and a PS3 (80GB version) and my Macbook and PS3 are connected to the same internet network.
    Thanks.

if i understand you correctly, you wish to share you screen over the LAN network you have???
if so the only option is to use a VNC based app. even at that i doubt a PS3 would have VNC compatibility. VNC has a fairly slow frame rate, and Mac OSX will not stream video at native speeds across network connections.. Try using something like a mini DVI - composite or component converter instead.

  • In need of an external home network drive, help please...

    Hi,
I am in need of an external home network drive in either 1 or 2TB form.
It will be for an imac and macbook pro + ps3 to use.
I saw this Western Digital one but was not sure how good it is -

I would be using it to back up HD final cut pro files a lot as well.
    Please help.
    Cheers

  • Airport and using a xbox 360 wireless

I want to convert to the apple world and a airport network. I am 99% there.
I have been readin many post's about xbox 360 not working on airport networks, i was woundering can you use a AirPort Express unit and hard wire in to the 360. so it would work like a wireless bridge.
Has any one tired this or hard wired a non wireless computer like this?

    John Knowles wrote:
Hey I think, I just responded to this same topic in the Airport Express forum (?)
Anyway, I was going to post this as a sticky on the topic but this seems as good a place to put my info. I have an XBox 360 hardwired into my Airport network, works great. Here's my setup:
    1. Main access point: Time Capsule 500GB (upstairs) plugged into Time Warner cable modem. Set to Wireless N, b/g compatible.
    2. Bridge: Airport Extreme N base station (downstairs), extending my wireless network.
    3. XBox 360 plugged into the downstairs base station via Ethernet cable.
    4. TivoHD also plugged into the base station. Not important to this discussion, just to show that it works (and that it's nice to be able to hardwire all your AV devices).
Set your primary base station to be extendable, then configure your second base station as a bridge by allowing it to extend your primary network. Easy. Plug in the 360 and it will configure automatically, no need to go through all the PAINFUL configs when using wireless.
Just for the record, I also tried:
    1. XBox 360 wireless adapter and my Time Capsule: would only work when I set my Airport network to "B only" mode, which is pretty useless. Stopped working altogether after I swapped wireless adapters and tried to switch back. I think it's a piece of junk, and the XBox's wireless setup could use an overhaul.
    2. Linksys G Game Adapter: worked briefly with Time Capsule, then stopped working. Created it's own ad-hoc network despite being told not to. Can only setup using web utility on a Mac. Also a piece of junk.
**Final advice: if you have Time Capsule, do yourself a favor and buy an Express or another base station and hardwire your Xbox 360. You'll save yourself a lot of headache. An Express costs close to what an XBox wireless adapter costs anyway, so it makes more sense to go this route.**
Haha, you're a **** genius. I was going to buy a new n-compatible Airport Express anyway (been borrowing my mom's old Express thus far) – aaand I just got an Xbox 360. And also, by doing it your way, I will only have the power cord and the ethernet cable from the modem to my Time Capsule‚ all other devices (iPhone, MacBook Pro, PS3) will connect wirelessly, and the Express will do the same, and since its current position is like 1 meter away from the Xbox 360, this was truly one of my all-time highlights of a forum-solved problem...
    Thanks!

  • Do I have to use the TC wi-fi and can/will TC support all my products?

Looking at purchasing a TC. I currently I have an iMac, two Macbooks, a PS3, a Xbox 360, a Wii, a iPod touch and two iPhone 4 on my wireless network running a Linksys router. 1. Do I have to use the TC wi-fi for my home network? 2. Can I just use the TC for wireless backup? 3. If I replace the Linksys router with the TC will it support all my junk? Thanks!

Do I have to use the TC wi-fi
    No

Can you tell us what products you have?
What function do you want the TC to perform?

  • Wifi suddenly went mad!

Originally I had a 100% functional wifi network including my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8), an Airport Extreme as WLAN router, an Airport Express to stream music from my MacBook, my PS3 and my iPhone, all connected over WLAN.
All of a sudden nothing really works anymore.
Numerous unsuccessfull calls with Apple Care and appointments with Genius bar.
Even bought a brandnew Airport Extreme and requested a brandnew modem from internet provider.
    Cables all checked and okay.
Hardware in general seems all okay.
However, WLAN via MacBookPro, etc. is gone. Have tried everything.
Now - I can regain a 100% functional wifi network using my very old Siemens Gigaset SE551 WLAN router, my very old IBM Thinkpad, my fairly new Airport Express, iPhone and PS3!!
But: when I use my MacBook Pro instead of my Thinkpad, the wifi network sometimes works and usually does not. Numerous very strange network phenotypes then.
    Wifi radar shows nothing conspicious.
    What could I do now??
    Buy new Airport Extreme?
    Done.
    Ask for new modem?
    Done.
    Cables?
    All checked and apparently okay.
    Buy new Macbook?
    Can't afford.
Does anybody either had the same problem or has a good idea?
    Thank you so much!

Asked Apple support. They told me to make a HARD reset.
What exactly do you mean "hard reset", to your Airport router? Better yet, what type of router are you using?
I stongly believe it's something in the OSX rather then a hardware error.
As a Mac technican, I strongly disagree. Though there are many factors, the Operating System should be the least of your concerns. Mainly because this is an intermittent connection issue. Typically, this symptom is caused by wireless interference.

  • 5.1 Surround sound on multiple devices problem

    Ok, heres my scenario:
I recently bought a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers, for my iMac, MacBook and PS3. How would I go about connecting these devices to the speakers.
My speakers have that weird 3 cable input on the subwoofer (yellow, black and green 3.5mm sockets), and I have 3 3.5mm jack cables to go with it.
Obviously the iMac only has 1 3.5mm jack output, so how would I go about connecting this?
Then theres my Macbook Pro, again same problem, 1 3.5mm jack, but I need a way to then connect my iMac and Macbook to the speakers without having to keep switching the cables around.
Then finally theres my PS3, which is connected to a monitor via HDMI, there is not other outputs apart from a headphone jack from the monitor, and then the optical out on the back of the system (which I have never really used before).
I would not like to spend too much, but I must have all 3 of these machines connected, without having to rearrange cables every time I use a different machine.
    Thanks in advance.
PS. If possible, I would also like to have en extra audio input, just incase I need to plug my iPhone in too.

What's the best way to get 5.1 surround sound on my iMac 2011?
It depends upon what you wish to do with the 5.1.  Most output related uses require 3rd party software as there is no native support for 5.1 in OS X.
A Google search will find you a lot of info on the subject.  Searching these communities will also find a lot of useful info.

  • IPad interfering with other devices wifi

Is there any fix to this problem?
    I have a 64gb wifi only iPad.
When it's wifi is turned on, my 3DS and blackberry cannot connect to the wifi network.
When I turn my iPads wifi off, they can.
Various other devices seem unaffected (iPhone, iPod, MacBook, pc, ps3, wii.)
    Just the blackberry and 3DS

With no details on what networking equipment you have (make, model, and version) or how your network is configured it is difficult to comment on what is causing this problem.

  • I am having wireless connectivity issues with my time capsule

Over the last 3 days my wireless devices have been having issues with connectivity.
    Network setup:
Modem - Motorola SB5102 Cable Modem
1 TB Time Capsule 802.11n (second generation)
The devices are approximately 3 feet apart.
    Wired Device:
Mac Pro (2008 build) running OSX 10.6.8, Airport Utility 5.6.1
    Wireless Devices:
    Playstation 3
    Macbook Air
    iPhone 5c
    iPhone 4
I am having issues with internet connectivity. The wireless signal strength is fine as all devices can find the network. However when connected to the network accessing the internet on the Macbook Air, or either iPhone is slow and streaming services such as Netflix cannot connect. I have intermitant connectivity to the Playstation Network on the PS3.
I have wired both the Macbook Air and PS3 directly to the Time Capsule and have no issues, internet is accessible and streaming services are fine.
I have power cycled all the devices (Time Capsule, macbook, iphones, PS3, modem) to no result.
I am looking for any other suggestions that may help me with my wireless connectivity issue.

A Gen2 TC is probably on its last gasp.. and it is well overdue for replacement.
If you want to get more life out of it you normally need to repair or replace the internal power supply.. This is not done by apple or any of their repair centres.
Just do ebay search and you will find sellers with replacement supplies.
Otherwise to test, do a full factory reset..
I would also downgrade the firmware.. 7.5.2 will work just as well for you and has less bugs than 7.6.x firmware.
To downgrade hold down the option key when you select firmware version.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
