Macbook to replace my PB G41.5 15"

Hi all
I love posting in new sections:)
I've got a PB G4 1.5 15" and I was thinking of replacing it with a macbook. Is this a good idea? I'm looking to move into the technology but not with a MB pro as yet because I'm sure there are great things to come with the MB pro.
The MB is however not too prices and offers almost everything the MB pro does suffice as to say the illuminaing keybooard and dedicated graphics (Apple why?).
I'll need it for design work (web) and for general use of everything it word, safari and skype.
Well what do you guys think, is it a good switch?
-G

I just switched from a Powerbook 15" and I am very happy with the MB. Even though I run a mac-based lab for video editing and curriculum development, I use my laptop for email, word docs, surfing etc... I am very pleased with the MB performance and I love the new design. The fit and finish are what I expect from Apple. I really think that the decision needs to be made based on the type of programs that you need to run. The MB is what it is, an iBook replacement. And I have to say, I am very pleased.

  • Is the frame around the screen (where the bezel is located) included in the Macbook case replacement program?

I have had to have the top case on my macbook (white) replaced may times as I'm sure most of the owner of that paticular macbook have had to do. In the past I have experienced cracks on the handrest/keyboard portion of the case, but this time I have a crack where the bezel is right above the screen. Will Apple replace that frame for free also?

My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

  • 4s microphone has always malfunctioned (people can't hear me) for first 10 seconds of outgoing phone calls. I've synched w healthy Macbook Pro, replaced SIM cards, replaced iPhone 4s, called Applecare (no mic issue admitted). OS problem?

4s microphone has malfunctioned on most outgoing calls for many months. People can't hear me for first 10 seconds of outgoing phone calls. I've synched w healthy Macbook Pro, replaced SIM cards, replaced iPhone 4s when Apple Store thought it was probably a hardware problem, called Applecare (no mic issue admitted). OS problem??? I think so! [Possible] good news: for the past 2 days, since updating to 5.1.1, no one has reported problems hearing me!
I'm concerned Applecare folks did not admit to me that so many other 4s users also has malfunctioning mics.

    Why would that even matter?
The device obviously has a hardware issue and is under warranty, take it to Apple for replacement and move on with life.  No reason to make things difficult.

  • How to get a macbook pro replacement under warranty?

I bought my Macbook pro 6 months ago, and it's still under warranty right now. I used some laptops of SONY VAIO & Microsoft before, and I did not experience any problems with them in the first 2 years. This year, I decided to give Macbook pro a try because I have heard many compliments about this laptop from my friends and advertisements. When I opened the box and used it in the 1st time, I noticed that the button CAPS LOCK wasn't good, and I had to press it 2-3 times to make it work. It has happened for 6 months, until now. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I still use it because I am an easy customer. But recently, whenever I turn on the SLEEP MODE for my laptop and work with my laptop later on, my laptop often experiences the PAUSE or freezing. I don't know how to describe it, but there is a round circle with rainbow colors appear on the screen and pause everything/programs is running. My laptop has never been felt out or scratch. It's just 6 months since the day I purchased the laptop. I should not experience this trouble with my laptop because I think the Macpro is better than the SONY VAIO or other laptops. I feel like I was sold a refurbished Mac, and I am really disappointed. My friend told me to bring my Mac to be fixed in Apple store, but I don't want to continue using a fixed, refurbished Mac. Can I get a replacement? If I bought it in Bestbuy, could I got replacement in Apple Store or Bestbuy store?

    Can I get a replacement?
    No - see below

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Which new Macbook to replace my 2008 Macbook Pro?

I am about to buy a new replacement for my 5 year old 15" Macbook Pro which I have sworn by, but is slowly letting go.
I would like someones opinion: should I replace it with the new 13 inch Macbook Air, or 13 inch Macbook Pro?
I would use it mostly for day to day work and fun, but also professionally for basic Photoshopping, Webdesign, and less frequently heavier programs such as AutoCAD, Sketchup and rendering software, as well as Final Cut.
I dont mind having the fastest and best of all to do this, but the system should be capable of running these apps smoothly.
My current system does fine, so will use it as a reference point with the following specs:
15" Macbook Pro Spring 2008 (yes, neither my keyboard nor trackpad work = lots of cables!)
    Mac Os 10.5.8
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    6 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
Thanks so much for advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend a 15" MBP for your needs.
Although the your applications may run adequately on the 13" MBA or 13" MBP, the lack of dedicated video GPU and dual-core vs quad-core may limit the useable life of your next MacBook.

  • IBook/Powerbook superdrive used for macbook pro replacement part?

I doubt the iBook drives would fit as Apple tended to use slightly larger drives but out of an Aluminium PowerBook you might have some luck.

  • Macbook pro replacement shell

got my 13-inch MacBook Pro for 21st birthday and have ended up with a slight dent in the shell, does anybody know how much it will cost me to get the shell replaced? Or if AppleCare will cover it (suspect not as it isn't anything to do with the laptop)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jake

AppleCare is for manufacturing defects, not accidents.
Final cost is dictated by the Genius Bar.  Cheaper if just the bottom part of the shell, because it is just a few screws.  Mor expensive for the upper case because of transplanting parts.  But we are just users like you.

  • Can Macbook Pro replace a desktop?

I'm a graphic design student and also do a little freelance work as a designer and photographer.  I need a new laptop, one that will be my only computer, I don't have a desktop.  Can I do everything I need to with the Macbook Pro, 15" with 8GB RAM?  I also am about to upgrade my camera and will be shooting 36.3 megapixel images and want to make sure I've got a device that can handle that.  I've never been a mac user, other than in school, and am not sure where I stand on the Mac v. PC debate.  Mostly I just want something that will work really well and last me for years, that I can do everything I need to do on, and since I'm pretty transient be portable enough for me to take anywhere.  Can I get away with just using a Macbook pro and not have a desktop?

Macs will typically last for quite some time. The machine I'm currently writing this on is 4 years old and still working as well as it did when it was new (although I did recently have to replace a failed hard drive - no computer can avoid that). As an additional data point, my wife owns a business that has a small school for severely autistic children. I gave them an old Mac PowerBook G4 several years ago. At this point, that machine is 10 years old, and it's so badly dented on all four corners that it won't close properly anymore... and it still works! I've got an even older PowerBook G3 in a cabinet somewhere... if I felt the need to pull it out and use a machine so old that it doesn't even have wifi, I still could, though realistically I just keep it around for sentimental reasons.
As for not having a desktop, I haven't had a desktop computer in more than a decade. A good laptop fills the need nicely. If you need a larger screen sometimes, you can always hook up an external monitor. If you need very high-end graphics processing power, laptops can't really match what's available in a desktop machine. A 15" MacBook Pro should meet your stated needs, though.

  • New Macbook Model replacing all others?

I have an older model MacBook Pro. I need to purchase a new one very soon. I know the new MacBooks were just released. My question: Is the latest Macbook model set to replace the Macbook Pro? If it is, I will purchase this one. But if not, I will wait for the next model of the Macbook Pro to come out. Can someone please advise?

Great question. Should the MacBook aim to one day replace to MacBook Pro it is a LONG way off. The differences between the two at the minute are huge, and in no way do they even compare power wise.
The new MacBook is gorgeous, don't get me wrong. But at this point in time it is simply an emotional purchase as for the same price you can get a 13" MacBook Pro Retina which is more than twice as fast, bigger screen, more accessible with ports etc and even includes the new Force Touch Trackpad.
However, if you are looking for day to day browsing, email & video etc and you don't require too much power then do it! I wish the Pro's came in colours

  • Old photobooth library from macbook pro replaced new photobooth library

I had a Macbook pro before, and switched to a macbook air 6 months ago.
I took a photo today on Photobooth, and when I went to see it, a popup window (don't recall what it said) came up and asked if I want to store into a specific folder. (Can't remember what it said verbatim).
Photobooth opens but my macbook air photobooth library has been replaced by my old macbook pro photobooth library.
The photos I took today were really important, and I am wondering if there is any way to retrieve them.

iamrachelx wrote:... if there is any way to retrieve them.
Maybe.  Because you don't know what was said or what you did (exactly), this will be trial and error.
    (1) try making another image and see if saving that one gives you a clue as to where the previous ones went.
    (2) Control-Click on your User/Pictures/Photo Booth Library folder and select "Show package Contents."
You may find your images in one of the folders there.  If you do, DO NOT MOVE THEM.
Instead, Option-Drag the ones you want to work on to another folder to get a copy you can use.

  • MacBook part replacements

    Hi:
I've recently picked up a MacBook for a great price that was damaged when the individual dropped it. The left hinge was detached from the unit and the power adapters' input was a bit out of place due to the fall.
I've reseated the power adapter input, but the L.C.D. screen, along with all of the peripheral cables associated with the screen must be replaced.
I was able to get access to the machine via target boot on my MacBookPro. However, I'm a bit worried about the Logic Board: Prior to booting in target mode, I was able to boot the machine normally and see that the display is badly damaged, which is not a problem, since I can find a cheap replacement part that I've used on a number of customers' MacBooks that work fine.
After dissembling the unit, I've found that a couple of cables linked to the Logic Board will have to be replaced.
I was wondering what any tech-savvy members on the forum would do in this case.
I was thinking of purchasing the necessary parts from a dealer that I do business with and selling the unit.
I'm also looking for an external enclosure to mount the H.D.D. on my Quad, G5.
What I'm most concerned about is the Logic Board: Although I was able to get the machine to boot normally -- a good sign -- , I'm concerned that it may fail due to the drop.
Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

This is not an issue we can help with. Take it up with your local vendor as you have already done.

  • Macbook pro replacement problem

About a month ago I purcased a macbook pro retina from malaysia. But now im in the UK. I faced some problem with the display . So i brought to the retail store in the UK. I was told that , they cant replace my macbook but they can only repair it because i didnt buy it from a UK retail store? Isnt it suppose to be a international warranty? Why cant i get it replaced then ?

Replace? Where did you get that idea?
Your warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship from the date you received it. Apple will repair or replace AT APPLE'S DISCRETION.
You are entitled to have them put it into working order at no cost to you. You do not get a new one because you feel like it.
