Macbook to Samsung 32 HDTV

Hello,
i have been trying for about 2 days to get my tv to work with my macbook but to no avail.
the main problem originally was with the tv as it didn't pick up the fact that the macbook was connected to the VGA port on the back, so after a bit of reading someone suggested that i use switchrez x to et the correct display resolution for my television. after that didn't work i decided to uninstall switchrez x but now my macbook wont recognize any external display. and when i plug in an exernal display the screen goes blue as if it were changing resolution but then goes back. and worse yet when i boot up with while connected to the external display the screen goes blue after the boot screen but the goes back to the boot screen but nothing happens. i can move the mouse on this screen but when i do there is another mouse where i moved the mouse from originally and the gear that shows it is loading doesnt move, its almost like a jpeg.
somebody please help me,
thank you

Have you been able to confirm the adapter is working by trying another TV? It could be you have a bad adapter.

  • Audio from Macbook to Samsung HDTV

    Hi,
I have this common problem of trying to get audio from my Macbook when connecting it to my Samsung HDTV (40in)
    I have a 2009 Macbook.
This is what I'm using. I'm not great on the jargon, but I think this is a HDMI cable for the video which works fine, but carries no audio.
The problem is the audio, which I have an RCA cable for, but maybe I'm not connecting it to the right place. I've tried all combinations though.
The only thing I can see that may be an issue is everyone seems to talk about red and white cables, mine are red and black, don't know if that makes any difference.
I also can't see anything in the TV menu to help with audio setup.
Can anyone help, it's driving me nuts!
    Thanks!

Or check your TV manual for an input mode labeled HDMI/DVI (it may be labelled HDMI 1 or 2). This should take picture from the HDMI but listen to audio from your stereo audio input you have already connected up.
There is an audio input labelled PC/DVI - is that the one you mean? if you look at my picture (of the back of the TV) it's pretty much bang in the middle of the pic. But I don't recognise the input. What kind of cable is that - it is circular in style....
HDMI 1 is actually labelled HDMI 1 (DVI) (not too clear in the pic)...maybe that's what you are referring to?
I do not have the same model TV as yours, however on mine, the small round AUDIO INPUT jack accepts the same kind of connector as that goes into the computer earphone jack. Therefore I use a cable with the same kind of connector on each end.

  • Macbook to samsung hdtv

after connecting mac to samsung hdtv with relevant cables ,screen saver appears on tv nothing else
is there something else i need to do .
    would appreciate any advice

When you say +screen saver+, do you actually mean your desktop wallpaper? If so, what you probably have is an extension of your MacBook screen showing on the tv. What is it that you would like to see on your MacBook? on your tv? Your options are:
The same thing on both or mirror.
The main stuff on the tv and just the +screen saver+ (desktop wallpaper) on the MacBook (which is the opposite of what you have now.
    Some stuff on each.
Everything on the tv and close the lid on the MacBook.
The answers to these will determine what you need to do next. If you do nothing, you are able to move your curser or a window to the right off the MacBook screen and it will appear on the tv. The settings can be found in System Preferences/Displays.
btw... the screensaver/desktop thing is very common and I find it humorous. Please don't take offense.

  • Connecting MacBook to Samsung HDTV

Can anyone tell me what I will need to connect my Macbook to my HDTV? Is it DVI or Mini DVI or what?
    Thanks!

Most HDTV's I've seen do not have a DVI port, usually they have VGA and HDMI though. Your best bet would be to get a Mini Displayport to HDMI or VGA adapter from your local Apple store or online.
If your are fine with 3rd party cables/adapters then I would suggest monoprice.com where I got a 10ft MiniDisplayport to HDMI cable (no cluncky adapter) for about $12. Just remember that the Macbooks do not support audio over HDMI so you will also need to run an audio cable if you want to use something other then the built in speakers.
    Hope that helps.

  • Connection Macbook to Samsung HDTV

I was wondering what wires I would need to connect my macbook (13 inch, black) to my samsung hd tv (PN42B450B1D).
It looks like I'll need 2, I think HDMI/DVI and something else? But I'm not sure if I'm on the right track?

Turn the TV ON and select the HDMI input before starting or waking up the Mac. The HDMI interface, fully digital, requires a complex handshake to permit both ends to agree on stuff such as resolution, volume, speed, etc. Some HDMI implementations don't respond until activated. So the Mac tries to talk to the (off) TV, gets no answer, gives up. Then the TV tries to talk to the Mac and gets no answer. And the owner of both only gets frustrated.

  • How Do I Transmit Audio from My 2008 MacBook Pro to My 2011 Samsung HDTV?

    Hello,
I'm trying to transmit audio from my 2008 late model MacBook Pro to my 2011 Samsung HDTV.  My MacBook's Model Identifier is MacBook Pro 4,1 (ancient, I know).  I purchased this DVI to HDMI cable which does a beautiful job of transmitting the video to my HDTV, but no audio (as advertised): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8SY5Q/ref=oh_o02_s01_i00_details   HELP!!
    Thanks very much.

I figured it out!  I plugged in my 3.5MM auxillary cable I use to plug my iPhone into car stereo jacks from the headphones port on my MPB to the "PC/DVI Audio In" on the back of my Samsung HDTV and voila! It worked! No additional cables (other than these two). No upgrading OS.  Yay!
    Here's the auxillary cable:  http://www.amazon.com/AUDIO-3-5MM-JACK-AUXILIARY-CABLE/dp/B002Q3K0QS/ref=sr_1_1? ie=UTF8&qid=1330576344&sr=8-1
This looks like a great workaround to the MPB to HDTV audio problem!  Hopefully my geek status is still intact.  W00T!
When in doubt, try all the cables you have in all the different ports.  AV hasn't changed much over the years and you can often rig things to work with what you already have.  Yay for keeping cables out of landfills and repurposing!

  • I have a macbook pro 5,3 white I am trying to hook up to a samsung hdtv.  I have used a mini dv to hdmi adapter but I get no sound on my tv.  What can I do to get sound?

The Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adaptor will only pass video in most cases. You will need to run a separate audio cable along with it. Likely a 3.5mm (male-to-male) cable. Or a 3.5mm (male) to red/white RCA (male) cable. Just depends on what audio input ports your TV has dedicated to the HDMI input.

  • I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Cannot connect Samsung HDTV to Macbook pro (late 2011)

I just bought a Samsung HDTV and would like to connect it to my Macbook pro from late 2011 running lion. I have both the adapter and the hdmi cable. The hdmi cable is plugged into the tv. When I try to change the source on the tv to hdmi it says no device found. I have tried turning both the tv and laptop off and then plugging in the cable, then turning on the tv then computer. The computer does not recognize that anything is plugged into it either. When I go to system preferences: display, it does not recognize the tv.
    HELP!!!!

After clicking detect displays I assume and mirroring is checked.
Try a NVRAM reset see if that helps.
Leave it connected to the TV w/TV on, power off the MBP and power it on holding the following keys:
COMMAND+OPTION+P+R hold till before the start chime and continue to hold til you hear the start chime 2 times, then release. Reboot.

  • Adapter/cable for display output from Macbook to Samsung 42" HDTV

I am interested in purchasing an adapter/cable that will allow me to connect my Macbook to my HDTV so that I may watch videos I play on my computer (e.g., from hulu.com, etc) on my TV. What do I need to purchase in order to do this? Does the audio output as well?
Please, if you're answering this, use Lehman's terms so that I can understand what's being said thanks in advance!

    Hey locasciok1;
First you need a Mini DVI port to HDMI adapter. Look for this on eBay or on something online. WAAAAY too expensive from Future Shop or something. In fact, never get cables from electronics stores, they are always around 5000% marked up. What you will spend $60 to $250 for in store will cost $4 online.
Then, if you have HDMI input on the back of your TV (most new TVs have it, looks like this: http://macpeanut.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/hdmi.jpg) you can run a cable
So get the proper adapter to go from your Macbook to HDMI cable, then the HMDI cable to your TV.
So just post if you do not have an HDMI port on your TV, but post with the specifics of what ports you do have on your TV, whether they are the 3 plug Yellow, Red, White, or the 5 plug, Blue, Green, Yellow Red, White or whatever.
Hope this helps, best of luck!

  • Issue with Lion OSX and Samsung HDTV

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem while connecting my Samsung HDTV model LNT3242HX with my Mac ever since I upgraded to Lion (I was previously on Snow Leopard).
    I'm using a  Macbook 2.13 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo (Mid 2009).
I use the Mini DVI to VGA cable and I hook it up with my TV. The thing is, with Lion, when I connect my TV, it doesn't fit the whole TV screen. There's about an inch to the left and the right where the screen stays dark. I did not have this problem with Snow Leopard.
When I check in my display preferences, my resolution is set to 1360x768 , however it says Usable Resolution 1280x768...And there's no way to change the refresh rate to anything else besides 60 hertz....
I don't really know if anyone can help? As it used to work just fine before, I assume there must be some kind of glitch between OSX Lion and my HDTV. I tried hooking it up to my other LG HDTV, and there is no problem, it's just with my Samsung TV.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out!

I have the exact same problem except mine is a 52 inch tv and there is at least 6 inches on either side plus 3+ inches on teh top and bottom.  Wasnt an issue with Snow Leopard.  I read somewhere that I may need to buy a $100 adapter instead of using the DVI to VGI cable.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I use this setup when I telework and the screen resolution is too small to be useful now.

  • Macbook Pro to HDtv problems

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro from 2009 (1st aluminum body). I recently got a samsung HDTV, and when I hook it up to my macbook, sometimes certain programs come up in a distored, unviewable form. It is hard to describe, it looks sort of like a photo negative, with random rainbow colours throughout.
if I close the program (eg firefox) and reopen it on the hdtv with a wireless mouse, then it always works. But if I have the program open first, and then plug it in and try and full screen netflix, it gets all messed up.
I did cheap out on my hdmi adapter, and my hdmi cable. I'm not sure if either of these would have anything to do with it. Help!

    Hi
I've done the same thing, with no problems - the tv audio input selector setting needed adjusting, but otherwise fine. Some tv's are less than obvious how to have the audio input independent of the hdmi.

  • Older MacBook Pro to HDTV

I'm considering connecting my MacBook Pro (Late 2006) model to my HDTV but don't want to buy all the cables necessary if it won't work regardless. Does anyone know if the late 2006 MacBook Pro 17" model would connect appropriately to my Samsung HDTV? My model has a standard DVI output that I was going to get a DVI to HDMI cable for and connect it directly to the HDMI on my LCD. Does this model MacBook have the capacity to output in 1080p? What audio cables would I need to go from the laptop to the HDTV RCA jacks? Any help is REALLY appreciated!

What you propose should work fine. For the audio, get a cable with two RCA plugs on one end and a 1/8" stereo headphone plug on the other, and plug it into the headphone port on your MBP.
Your TV probably has one particular HDMI port that you must use if you are also sending a separate audio signal to the TV. See the TV's manual for information about which HDMI port to use.
Be sure to select the TV as the audio output device in the Sound pane of System Preferences, and be sure to select the proper HDMI port as the input source in the TV's menu system.

  • Help!! Macbook (2009) to HDTV!!

Okay, so I bought my Macbook in back in August (2009) and I've recently tried to hook it up to my Samsung HDTV. The sound works fine and I get a picture (which used to be my background but even when I changed that it still stayed the same) but that's it! I have a mini-DVI to HDMI adaptor and then just a regular HDMI cable. It's hooked up to my HDMI in port 1 because if I hook it up to port 2 the sound doesn't work.
So with it hooked up to port 1 and the sound working how do I get it to let me use my TV kind of like a second monitor. Even when I pull up Front Row it doesn't work, I just get sound. Everyone keeps saying that you just hook it up and it works... well... obviously not. Is there something else I need to do to get it so that I can see whatever I'm doing on my Macbook to show up on the TV?
    Please help!! Thanks!!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You're getting audio through to the HDTV with just an HDMI cable ?
(In theory that won't happen as Apple have not enabled audio by HDMI) : puzzled:
Anyway, when they are connected run System Preferences/Displays and see if it's set to Extended Desktop or Mirroring (i.e. a copy of what's on the other screen) If you want the Dock to be on the external monitor drag that across.

  • Which cables are needed to connect macbook 13" to HDTV

Hi, was wondering which cables i needed to connect my 13" aluminium macbook to a samsung HDTV. There's so many on the apple store, not entirely sure what I need. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you clarify whether you're using a MacBook Pro or a PowerBook?  Your post is ambiguous.  For good measure please tell us when it was purchased new.

  • 2010 13'' MBP freezes upon VGA Adaptor to Samsung HDTV

    1. The Samsung HDTV is connected to the VGA adaptor
    2. When I plug the VGA adaptor into the MBP, the Macbook freezes. It seems to continue running, as I can still see it in the network.
    3. If I put the MBP to sleep first, then plug in the VGA adaptor and wake the MBP, it doesn't freeze. In this case, the TV is recognized and works as it did on my previous machines. So, both the TV and the adaptor work.
I guess the display driver stalls. I think I read this somewhere here, can't find the topic anymore.

    Quoted from another thread:
Get the Deep Sleep widget and put the MBP into Deep Sleep (hibernation) and turn off the monitor before connecting or disconnecting the monitor.
The monitor interface is not designed to be a hot plug interface. The ground levels of the two systems are at a different voltages and you are getting a spark when they touch. You risk damaging one or both of the interfaces.
