Macbook to tv display problem

I have a macbook, white one, I have been using it just fine with and hdmi adapter cord. All was well until I decided to upgrade my safari browser with a free download and had to shut down the computer. when I restarted it. my tv was displaying my old screensaver without any files on it. I navigated to the displays menu and tried to line it up and look for the tv model, but the tv still just displayed the old screensaver i had before it shut down. I unplugged the tv, the mac, and took out the hdmi cord and tried a no power reboot. and when i plugged them back in, same deal, just my old screen saver.
side notes... this is a new tv magnavox 32 inch,
is it the tv? is it the cord? or is it the new safari download? is there any hidden method of fixing this, help!

found the problem,
...... mirror display. lol
slow *** response time by everyone else tho jeez, had to answer my own question

The AR coating is coming off of my macbook pro retina display.  laptop purchased in fall of 2013.  anyone else seeing this issue?

You are not the first one. Every laptop with retina display that I know in Latvia has this problem.
Hope that Apple reads such claims and will do something on upcoming models.

  • My new MacBook Pro has display problems

I am new to Mac. I had purchased a brand new MacBook Pro 13 inches with i7 processor on April2 this year, Within 10 days the display screen started to grey out and later  on develop horizontal lines. I telephoned Apple support and when a telephonic solution  became unlikely I was asked to take it to an Apple Authorized service centre in my town. The technician there could not clearly explain to me what was wrong with the system, but I understood him to say that he has reinstalled the graphics driver and the system was trouble free for a prolonged time thereafter (at the service centre). I also understood him to say that should the problem recur again, he would have to replace the motherboard. I was on a travelling tour for a week after this and was not able to test out this repair (I took my old windows system with me for the travel) To my utter dismay the problem has recurred again after 28 days of purchase. I have attached screenshots. The button for uploaing videos is greyed out therefore  I will have to restrict myself to screenshots. All the three screen images occcur
in turn and the system becomes unusable and I have to use the poweroff button. The display problems start within 10 minutes of switiching on the system.
I took some time to discover these forums. The first time this problem occurred on my machin I posted this problem on mac-forums and I was advised to take it to an Apple store and let the apple genius bar worry about this one. I do not live wihtin any sort of manageable distance from such a place and the repair centre is an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Coming to the emotional aspects of this technological glitch. I feel like I have been hit by a truck.I had saved and scraped pennies to buy this dream machine and I believed I was escaping the ficleness of windows. But no windows system of mine (I have three) become so unusable
Will I have to spend time and effort to lug this machine to service centre to replace each of its component parts one by one ? Can I ever trust this machine to provide a presentation to an audience? What sort of an impression will I create if the system plays this trick on me in the middle of some presentation?

Shootis007, What is CC company? I googled CC and got many different answers.
I called Apple Support and told them my story and pressed for replacement and they told me repeatedly that there is no policy for replacement. The initial support person who attended my call asked me to take it to the seller and ask the seller for replacement. I dont think that is the way to go. I dont know what is his fault. He gave me a brand new system, the package was opened by me. Since I am new to Mac, I had taken a Mac user friend with me who showed me how to get started (right there in the shop) Neither the experienced Mac user friend nor I felt anything remiss at that time or later at the Seller level. Nevertheless I called the reseller and he explained his helplessness. I dont think it his fault at all.
Since I kept insisting on replacment I was put through to another support person who took pains to reassure me that I should get the defective part replaced and thereafter all will be well. For now I trust him. I have no other alternative
I really am puzzled. All you dear Mac users should know that the machine I dreamed of and really saved to purchase is giving me no end of troubles whereas my three windows machines sit there with their numerous stated deficiencies but gives me uninterrupted service

  • Macbook pro retina display problem

    Hi everyone!
I just got back from apple service with my retina macbook pro today. it had a display problem with the black paint around the display edge. it still has guarantee, so they obviously replace the whole display for MP PRO retina.
anyway, before the display maintenance, if i went to the macbook system preferences, choose display settings, i always saw the "retina display" option for my display.
with the new display, i only see the usual options, but not the retina display option. so basically, i can not choose the retina display setting!
why is that, is it mean, i don't have retina option on my mb pro?
    thanks for your answers!
    Peter

    thanks my Ginger!
i wrote an email to them, hope they answer, attached print screens as well.
but it really strange, 'coz the display says, it is a retina one! but i can not choose "(best) retina" option, like i used to, only "default"

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display problems.

Hi I recently purchased the Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I noticed that there is a verticle line running from each side of the screen. I doesn't seem to affect the display quality. I just wanted to know if anyone else has it and if it could lead to a problem in the future...

    HI,
I bought a MBP with retina yesterday. There are some signs about low quality of display. I have two brightening vertical line in middle of display, and right side of display has little bit different colour (mainly white) liken left side.
The APR doesn't want change this machine.
I think about Apple uses worse and worse displays in last years. You can find that picture about phenomenon here:

  • 15" macbook pro unibody display problem

I just got a new 15" unibody MacBook Pro this past Thursday and am having issues with my display as well. I get these horizontal bands across the screen. It has happened about a half a dozen times since I got the machine. Only a reboot will make them go away. I did have third party RAM installed (Kingston). Could this be the source of the problem?

I just bought a MAC book pro 15 inch a week ago and the video had some big wavy lines. I am assuming this is the same issue you are talking about. I looked online and don't see too many 15 inch people complaining about it. I did see some 17 inchers complain. They have a firmware update for the 17 but not the 15.
I took my 15 incher back and they gave me a lot of crap for it. After some fighting they decided to exchange it for another one. I have it but am nervous to open the package. They told me if I open it I can't exchange it. They say I will have to send it in for repair. I don't want to send my crap off especially if it is brand new. I am considering taking it back for a cheaper mac book.
When I complained they went to a display model and it was doing the same thing. So you guys are complaining of the same issue as I had and the demo had it too. I have not seen anything from mac about this.
Not sure why I posted this maybe I was hoping someone could tell me good news. It kind of ***** I have paid 2700 for a computer that I am nervous to take out of the box.
I wish I would have just bought an older Gen. My G/F has an older gen for like 3 years and had no issues. I had one for a week and exchanged it back already.
They ran some diagnostic on it that said it passed but it was obvious there was a problem.
    I am really disappointed.
Should I open it and be stuck and take my chances or should I take it back and get a mac book and save 1200 bucks?

  • Unibody Macbook Pro 17inch Display problems, vertical lines and artifacting

    Hey everybody
I bought my 17inch MBP at B&H in June (week before WWDC, D'oh) and it was working fine until I came over to Ireland to work on a editing job for the summer, as soon as I attached it via mini display to a second monitor I started getting artifacts and vertical lines in certain shades and colours on the macbooks display, its gradually gotten worse so much so in fact that it is nearly unusable.
I have seen the thread about the firmware update, but my computer is already up to date with that but it still has this problem, I contacted apple and was told to take it to the apple store and the genius bar in Belfast, as helpful as the rep was he told me it would be two weeks for a repair, by replacing the logic board. Which I just can't do as I've only got three weeks left on the job and need my mac every day. I've searched and it seems no-one is having this problem except me since the firmware update, but clearly my machine still has problems.
Never had a problem with all my previous Mac's but I'm close to tossing this in the bin please help because if I can't get this solved I will have to move to PC and install my copy of AVID on it as this is the only other available computers at this production company.
What to do? Has anyone else had this problem recently? Or know of a fix for it? I've tried everything downloaded the firmware told me its already installed, switched the graphics displays etc etc
    Please help
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like there is a hardware problem of some sort with the graphics chips, and the only real fix is going to be to replace the logic board. So at some point, you will have to send your Mac off for repair.
In the US, you can sometimes arrange to get a loaner. You might ask if this would be possible where you are, since the repair is going to take so long.
Unfortunately, I don't know of anything that would fix your problem other than a repair.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Model A1138 display problem

Hi fellow Mac users. I have a Macbook Model a1138 with a 15" screen. Its been a great computer till now. In the last month the screen has gone all wonky. If you move the screen at all it develops a horizontal line at about 1/3 of the way down the screen...below the line is a shaded image of the screen...the cursor stops working when you bring it below that line. If you navigate to a new page on the browser, the area below the line stays on the same page. I assume that whatever new signal is being transmitted to the screen is only making it to the top portion of the screen. Heres where it gets weird. If you move the screen again it will sometimes correct and stay stable until you jostle it. Also, if you give the display a pinch at the line area it will sometimes correct. Do I need a new display or is this a connection issue?

First off, you have a MacBook PRO, not a MacBook. It's easy to tell since MacBooks only come in 13.3" sizes. Plus it'll say "Pro" under the display.
That aside, it sounds like you probably have a loose and/or pinched video cable. I guess it's up to you if you want to attempt some of the quick fixes yourself, because if you're not careful you may end up making things worse. So if the system is under warranty, take it somewhere to get worked on, otherwise read on if you're willing to assume the risks of whatever happens.
First thing to do after removing the bottom cover (the screws are PH00) is to locate the battery connector. It's pretty easy to spot, since it's right by the battery, and looks completely different from all other connectors. Use your fingernail or something non-metalic to gently pry it up and out of it's slot.
Now, the video cable is the one in the top right corner that is put in at an angle. Sometimes it has a little EMF gasket on it that needs to be peeled off. There should be a small black flap on the front side of the connector. This pulls up, then goes up and over the connector to release the latch. Then the connector pulls straight back. Now that you've removed it, you simply put it back in, and make sure the connection is solid. Then swing that little locking lever back over, put the gasket back on, reconnect the battery if you want, and see how things go. You may wish to hold off putting the screws back in until you know things are working.
If that doesn't fix it, then it would require taking apart the display housing, and you run the risk of damaging the hinges if you don't have something to keep the system lined up properly while taking the weight off. So, if the above doesn't fix it, then there's something more serious wrong that you really should take to someone better equipped. You may need a whole new video cable or even a new display. But again, if this is under warranty, do NOT try anything above, take it in to be serviced by a professional.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro sleep and external display problem

I recently upgraded to the new 2010 15 inch core i7 Macbook Pro. The problem i have is that it will not detect an external display (23inch Cinema) after waking from sleep. This happens after using the display to extend the desktop and also when using the Macbook in closed mode.
I've managed to get it to detect the display only after either restarting the Macbook completely or by going into energy saver and switching to dedicated graphics then going back to detect display.
It seems that when on integrated graphics it doesn't register that an external display is connected. If i leave a program open and running that causes the dedicated graphics to kick in then it works ok. If i close all programs, shut the macbook pros lid, computer sleeps and external display shuts off. If i click the mouse to wake with lid closed, apple logo lights, machine starts up few seconds later macbook returns to sleep. If i open the screen the machine wakes as normal but the external monitor doesn't.
Any help is much appreciated as its starting to frustrate me now...
    Many thanks
oh and im running OSX 10.6.3

I thought it was intermittent to begin with until i started looking into it. By leaving programs open, like aperture, before i put the machine to sleep it appears to wake the external monitor up without a problem. If i shut all programs or leave basic things open like safari and mail which don't require the dedicated graphics, then upon wake it wont register an external screen is connected.
Manually detecting displays in settings doesn't work.
Disconnecting and reconnecting mini display port doesn't work.
Turning off power to cinema display and powering back up doesn't work.
To get the display going again its either 1) turn off macbook pro and re-boot or 2) re-start the machine then the display is automatically recognised. Or 3) launch a programme that kicks in dedicated graphics then manually go in and detect displays again..... like magic the display then springs to life.
    No ideas anyone??

Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”
    - Click on the Apple on the top left. Choose shutdown "Uncheck" Reopen windows when logging back in

  • Duo Displays Problem on MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) Resolution 2560x1440 and 1280x800, Sometime 2560x1440 is blank screen and must restart to fixed it

    Dear all,
I found some problems for using Duo Displays with MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) display and Samsung UHD Display (U28D590). I use resolution on my macbook is 1280x800, Samsung UHD Display is 2560x1440 And Connect with Display port to mini display port.
But I use sometime found always blank screen on Samsung Display and I tried to unplug mini display port and plug it again but it is not working until I shutdown and restart my macbook pro, my display back to working.
I want to fix this problem because it is very trouble for my working a lot.
    Thank you very much
    Phot

The symptoms I'm getting now, and I'm not sure if they're any different, suggest that for some reason Mountain Lion thinks my display resolution is higher than what it is, as wether I'm turning AirPlay on or off, it keeps changing it (on the MacBook) to what looks like maybe 1080p.

  • Display problem in macbook pro 13

I have been facing a display problem in my macbook pro (mid 2010, 13 inch) for more than six month. I talked to many persons from applecare and conformed to their advice. but the problem remains same. I went to apple authorised service provider at least 8 times. they changed my logic board, RAM etc. the problem remains same.
finally, I talked to applecare again. they adviced me to run fresh Lion installation and observe the machine without any thridd party software. I got the same problem.
when I call them, every person attending the call advices me new thing ! they are very polite and say: "if you have this problem again, please inform me." unfortunately, when I write them again about the same problem they do not care it !!!
I am very much frustated and psychologically tired with this issue.
Thanks a lot for your assistance.

I can only do wild guesses at this popint, only thing I can think of on your end is possible AC power problems, but I've not been impressed with Apple's quality since the 68K or Beige days.
THe iMac7,1 I'm on now needed repair 3 times & still scares me with it's PSU temps.

  • MacBook Pro and Cintiq 12UX display problems?

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so I'm sorry if it isn't - this is just the only place I could think of to ask about a display problem?
I’ve just got the new model Cintiq 21UX, and I’m running it off one of the newer model MacBook Pro’s (using Apples adapter to connect the two).
Everything seems to be working fine, although on the Cintiq’s screen I get flickering green pixels in darker areas of the screen? The confusing thing is it doesn’t happen all the time, it just seems to be the one particular ‘shade’ of dark grey/dark tones it happens on - an example is if I move an image around then its the same area of colour it has problems with across the screen, or if I zoom in the effected area gets bigger etc. I can also edit the colour to a slightly different shade and the problem stops so it can’t be a dead/frozen pixel. If I turn on the mirror display option it is still only the Cintiq display that is effected.
I currently run the MacBook using the Nvidia 9600M GT, I did try switching to the 9400M but it made the situation a lot worse and caused green pixels lines to flash horizontally across the screen.
I can save the image or drag the window that the problems happening on and drag it back to the MacBooks’ screen and there is no problem with the pixels there - it’s only on the Cintiq display.
I was just wondering if this is either a fault with the Cintiq tablet itself, or possibly a problem with the MacBook?
If it’s useful the spec of the MacBook is:

    Late 2008 unibody 15.4”
Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT & 9400M
I’m not sure what other spec would be of use but if theres more I can let you know.
Any help would be appreciated, as it works fine other than this occational green flicker, and it’ll cost me a lot to send of either the Cintiq or the MacBook off for a service or replacement in the UK?
    Cheers!

It could just be bad. Do you have another computer to try it with?
