Macbook to vga projector

hi,
i need to link my macbook to a vga projector for a presentation in a few weeks. i havent got any leads or adaptors yet, and get mixed information online etc.
i know i need a mini dvi to 'something' so i can get the video out of the computer, but ive read some people talk about mini-dvi to vga connectors, but i cant find them in the uk apple store, and on amazon it says theyre not compatible with the macbook.
any suggestions on a the best rig to get to the projector?
thanks

This should fix you up. The link is to the UK store. Amazon sometimes doesn't update their product descriptions. This adapter is the same one used on the PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5GHz).

  • How do you sync macbook air to overhead VGA projector?

How do you sync a macbook air to overhead VGA projector for slide presentation?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
That depends on the set up of the projector.
What input does the projector support? Older projectors often had VGA, S-video or RCA composit video inputs. Newer ones might have HDMI or a LAN cable, some of the newest are AirPlay compatible.
Once you have determined what connector you must (or can choose) to use you pick one and open System Preferences Displays... the MBA should be detecting and showing a second monitor... your projector should be detecting and showing a input signal.  You just have to match them up resolution and refresh rate wise.
Say the projector has a resolution of 800x600. Compared with MBA's 1366x768 resolution, if you simply have it mirror the MBA, its screen is going to shrink to the point where it is more difficult to run apps (especially if you select them from the top toolbar, as everything is squashed together).
Conversely, if you choose to use the projector as a 2nd screen, it preserves the MBA's original resolution, and only affects any app drug off-screen (which is what the students will see). You will still have the main desktop available for apps to keep open (but don't want the students to see).

  • External VGA Projector Screen Blue when MacBook Pro Connected

I love using my laptop for Powerpoint and Keynote presentations at work. I used to have a Powerbook 1.5GHz 15" and now have a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz 15". With some external VGA projectors, after connecting the MacBook Pro, everything works great. I turn off mirroring and my presentation goes smoothly.
However, with some particular external VGA projectors, I get a connection problem. After using my DVI-to-VGA cable to connect my MBP to the projector, nothing happens. The projector continues to project a blue screen as though nothing is connected to it and as though it has no video source. I've cycled through the projectors input selections hoping the projector would find the signal but still nothing. I've even restarted my MBP with the cables attached to the projector and still the projector shows a blue screen.
My friends can connect their PC Windows XP and Windows Vista computers to this same projector with no problems. I used to have this same problem with my PowerBook G4 which is one of the reasons I upgraded to the new MBP hoping this problem would be resolved. What's wrong and what can I do to get my MBP compatible with the external projector?

Sorry, I meant the cable that links between the connector and the input to the projector (RGB - IN by the way, not OUT).
We have a number of these VGA cables at my place of work that will work with a PC but not a Mac. Some are fine. My technician holds on to a cable for me that we know works and if I get a bad one, he brings in the replacement and it takes a few seconds to go online. I also note that some of the projectors (particularly ceiling mounted ones) have an additional adapter between the cable and the projector. It may be that some of the pins are not connected.
Of course, if the projector is mounted too high, that would not allow easy replacement.
I would suggest finding a cable that works and carrying that around.

  • How do I  see powerpoint presentation on  VGA projector?

I have the mini DVI to VGA adapter. After I connect my macbook to a vga projector what function key or command do I use to see my powerpoint presentation on the VGA projector?

It is essentially 'plug and play' - this was taken from the following linked site...
Tip: To make sure that your computer automatically detects theexternal display or projector, be sure you plug the adapter into theexternal display or projector before you plug it into the computer.

If you Macbook screen does appear and you still have powerpoint problems then the issue may be with your presentation as whatever appears on your screen should appear on your projector.

  • MacBook to VGA

I have an orginal Black MacBook 2 Ghz duo and I want to connect it to a VGA projector. I thought a cable came with the MacBook but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know if a connector came with the MacBook and if not which cable I should get?
    Thanks

    Hi William-Anderson!
The MacBook did not come with a VGA adapter from the factory. Only the MacBook Pro offers the adapter with the purchase of a new machine.

You however, can buy a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter from the Apple Online Store (or an Apple Store) to take of your needs, though.

  • Jittery image on VGA projectors with MBP

Recently I have had trouble projecting presentations from my MacBook Pro (15", early 2011, OS 10.8.3, 8 GB RAM) to several different VGA projectors. I am using a mini-Display to VGA adapter and use 2-screen mode (not mirroring). Initially, everything is fine - the projected image looks clean, but after a while, lines start to zigzag and jitter - as if someone was physically bumping the projector (or like a bad TV signal). This gets progressively worse and makes it nearly impossible to give a professional presentation (which I am required to do for my job). I have bought a brand-new miniDisplay-VGA adapter - no improvement! I am very careful to make sure that connections and cables are all solid. The same problem does NOT exist for external monitors hooked up via DVI or HDMI adapters/cables. Any suggestions/ideas?

First I tried flicker filter, and it helped some of the photos, but others became even worse! (The entire image shakes now instead of just portions.) I removed the flicker filter and tried the de-interlace filter, and that produced about the same results. I would try editing the photos separately in Adobe Photoshop, but before I delve into that I would like to set up an external video monitor. Unfortunately I've wasted about two days, and I can't seem to get it to work. I first tried by connecting the iMac to a Sony camcorder and connecting the camcorder to the video port on my television. No joy. Then I tried connecting the iMac via a mini-DVI to video adapter to my television. I thought my old television might be the problem, so I connected instead to the video port on a projector, and it still didn't work! I've changed the display settings and deleted certain preferences files, to no avail. My iMac doesn't seem to recognize the external display. I'm beginning to doubt this Mac purchase. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Flex 10 and VGA Projector

I have just bought a Flex 10 being assured that I can use it to drive a projector through a Belkin HDMI to VGA Projector Adapter.  It works OK with a VGA computer monitor connected via extended desktop, however it just refuses to work when connected to a BenQ W100 projector through a VGA to DVI adaptor.  The projector just doesn't see it. The projector works fine from a laptop.  Any ideas?

I know what to do on a PC but not a macbook. Basically it sounds like your display is extending to the second screen, not duplicating (meaning what you project and what you see on your mac screen are the same)
Try to poke around in the set up slideshow or display settings of your program (keynote?) and see if there are controls for extending or duplicating the screen.
What program are you using? If there's a forum for it I can ask the hosts to move this to the specific forum and see if it can get you a more precise answer faster. Or we can just get them to move it to the macbook forum.

  • Vga projector

I am running 10.8.2 on a 2011 macbook air.  I updated a few weeks ago and since then have not been able to connect to a vga projector. This has caused me all sorts of problems since I need to use a projector daily.

What type of cabe are you using to connect to it? Have you tried also https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/display-menu/id549083868?mt=12 because i have not had any problems connecting mine to a projector.

  • MBP freezes when connected to VGA projector

My MacBook Pro (15" 2.4Ghz SR, 4Gb) freezes when connected to a VGA projector, doesn't matter whether the DVI-VGA adapter is connected to cable first or last. Boot time while connected to the projector is also inordinately long. I have seen this happen a number of times specifically with other Santa Rosa MBPs.
I haven't called Apple yet on this and I suspect it will require a firmware update to fix; is this a known issue (and is it known to apple?)
    thanks
    --p

Just to update this thread with what I've posted elsewhere:
On my machine this problem only happens if the computer has been put to sleep before being connected to a projector. That is, put to sleep after being booted but before connection to the computer. It can be connected after booting without sleep. Once it has been successfully connected to a projector, it can be disconnected, put to sleep, awakened and reconnected with no problem.
I think that this "first sleep after boot" issue is what makes the occurrence of this problem so variable.
Some people just leave their computer on for long periods, only putting it to sleep when not using it. If they connected to a projector before putting it to sleep the first time they wouldn't see this problem.

  • How to connect the iPad to a VGA projector

I read the comments about using the iPad with a VGA projector for presentations, but those were for the original iPad. My association is asking me to present a live demonstration of the new iPad 2. I tested the iPad 2 with the digital connector to HDMI on my TV and that works great. I can move around all the screens on my iPad and even play Angry Birds.
But what about connecting this iPad 2 to a VGA projector? All the earlier comments referred to that process as "very limited" with only a few apps running on it, like Keynote. That won't do for my presentation. Is there a solution or does the new iPad 2 fully support a standard (read old) VGA projector?
    Thank you for your replies.
    Jean Feuillet

It is my understanding that the dgital adapter will give you full video mirroring over HDMI from the iPad 2, although there are some reported models of TVs and projectors that have issues, but that analog signaling, such as VGA, is limited to apps specifically written to provide access to that type of video connection.

  • Connecting DVI Cinema Display and VGA Projector from Minidisplay Port

    Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to get my mid 2011 Mac Mini to send a signal from my MiniDisplay Port to a vga splitter which works fine. My biggest thing is that when I connect my inFocus IN112 VGA Projector the screen shows up from my mac but to connect my Cinema Display it takes VGA so I had to go from the VGA Splitter on one side and use a vga to dvi adapter and my cinema display shows blank? Help Me Please!!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I already have a converter on the end of the VGA Splitter to go to the Cinema. The reason I don't use the hdmi to dvi is because with the minidisplay port using vga to the projector and the hdmi going to dvi to the Cinema it makes the projector screen very rough and pixely

  • IPad to vga projector connection questions

My kids got me a 3rd gen ipad and an apple tv and I would like to do keynote presentations and display them on an older vga projector.  If it matters it would be in a place without internet.  The projector is ceiling mounted with a wall mounted vga connector that is hard wired to it.  I believe the projector can also function as a server for wireless presentations, but I don't know how to wirelessly connect that to the iPad.  To get it working either way would be great.  Any suggestions or  directions would be very appreciated.  Thanks.

Well I just now looked at the apple reviews of the mini display port to vga adapter to find that many people experience these things not working. Maybe the 3 I have are all dead. I never even thought that all the adapters I have might be defective. All other apple display adapters I have (that are are much older) still work. I have some display adapters that are probably 10 years old that still work great (mini dvi to dvi adapter crica 2004). Anyways I just ordered a new one and will report back after I have a chance to test it out.

  • Best way to hook a Mini display port to a vga projector AND a vga monitor

I am looking for the best way to hook a Mini display port to a vga projector AND a vga monitor for use in a classroom, right now I am thinking a Mini displayport adapter to a splitter.

The Thunderbolt port is the one to use; you use the same mini-DisplayPort adapter you used for the older minis.
    Regards.

  • Connecting New iPad (3) to vga projector

    Hi everyone
Has anyone tried connecting a New iPad (3) to a projector using the vga adaptor?
From what i've read, most projectors have a resolution of around 1028 x 768.
What happens if you connect the New iPad, with it's 2048 x 1536 resolution, to a vga projector with a lower resolution? (using the Apple vga connector).
I would like to show keynote app presentations on a vga projector, but i'm worried that if I use the New iPad (3) that some of the image will be missing?
    Help?
    Thanks

Does anyone know why the display on the LCD projector is not 1028x768. I have 2 black bands on each side. This is output from iPad3 using the VGA adaptor. It was working fine a day earlier, with 1028.x768. I used another application called Web Presenter and that works fine, with the option to choose external display setting.
