MACBOOK TOO **** HOT!

My macbook reaches 82 DEGREES CELSIUS not FARENHEIGHT.
What the **** is going on? I reach this temperature when I watch a full screen video on Youtube.com
Do other people have the same problem?
I went to the genius bar and asked if they could repair it. All they did was repair my case, which got stained for no reason. This is outrageously hot. Add 18 more Cs and you can boil water. I know some people have really cool macbooks, i mean literally cool temperatured. Is there anyway I can get dumb apple store ppl to fix this? I know this isnt normal.

If the computer gets to the point where you feel you will be burnt by touching it for more then a few seconds or if it gets hot enough that it actually shuts down then you have an issue worth addressing through a mail-in repair.
Until that point there's not much you can do, Reset the PMU to make sure that temperature monitoring/fan control is all working properly and hopefully you can live with it.
These computers are designed and supported to be used on a flat surface, but if you place the computer on a table to desk and the computer is very uncomfortable to use (after a PMU reset) then give applecare a call. Better yet, a local apple retail store might be a good place to take it in, as any issue dealing with noise/temperature perception is best to be validated/confirmed with a Mac Genius.

  • Macbook pro 13" late 2011 too hot

I've been using my macbook for about 4 years in the same way with the same applications but recently I've noticed that it reaches very easily an high temperature and, consequently the fan works very hard draining my battery.
Analysing Istat pro I noticed that the temperature reaches 93° degree and more but looking up the processes it doesn't seem there is something wrong.
What do you suggest me? should I try to clean up the fans?
2 years ago I mounted the Crucial RAM update together with the 512gb ssd.
    Thank you very much

Look at Activity Monitor set to ALL PROCESSES and CPU to display values from high to low.  Are there applications using a lot of resources?
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203184
93°c is not too hot if the CPU/GPU are being heavily taxed.
In what condition is your battery?  It is not unusual to have to replace a 4 year old battery.  They do not last forever.
Open the MBP and inspect the insides.  If there is dust and debris, clean it out.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro retina display 15" charger getting too hot... any advice?

I have had my Macbook pro retina 15" since Jan 2014 and it has been working fine. Just recently, I have noticed that the charger block and the connector to the laptop gets extremely hot as does the actual laptop. I have looked around on the net and most of the discussions regarding this have been on earlier models. The charger block itself is so hot that it emanates heat and is too hot to touch! The plug into the laptop is pretty darn hot as well. When charging, I can't keep the macbook on my lap because it gets too hot.
I have checked all the connectors and the connections of all bits involved and they all seem good. I have also tried to minimalise all programs that are running.
Just wondering if someone can suggest anything, otherwise it looks like a trip to the store
    Many thanks in advance

Bfore you run to the store try this SMC ret, it fixes

  • Is it normal that my macbook pro cpu runs too hot?

I downloaded the smcfan control since my laptop was running too hot and I only bought it 3 days ago.
It says that my temperature goes up to 90c sometimes and it is too hot to even touch!!
I am a bit worried, I adjusted the fan settigs to higher rpm and it seems to help a lot, but why is it so the fans are not automatically adjusting when the temperature is so high? Is there something wrong with my laptop - I could still get it replaced with a new one since I just bought it..
    My specs are:
    MacBook pro 15" 2011
    i7 proccessor
    4GB or ram
    Thanks in advance!

194º F / 90c is the typical temperature if your doing a lot of heavy CPU load.
Check your Activity Monitor in your Utilities for any runaway processes.
If you first boot your machine and it gets these sort of tempertures with nothing else running, you very well indeed have a problem.
The average temperture using smcFanControl with default Apple fan speeds should be about 120º F cold boot, at idle/light load (just a simple browser window no video) CPU in a 78º F enviroment.
Iv'e bumped my minimum fan speed to 4000 RPM, and thus my smc reported temperture is about 100ºF for those same conditions.
If you way above these typical conditions (others report about the same) then yes I would uninstall smcFanControl and then take the machine in for a evaluation, you could have a dead fan or sensor, etc.

  • MacBook air get too hot

I have MacBook Air 11 Inch.
It's get too hot whenever I used MacBook. Also whenever it gets hot my Mac get slow.
It was not like that when I bought it.
I like to format my Macbook Air. Like I like to have my MacBook air like first time I got it.
    How i can do it?

well you cant really fix that issue but if you run heavyt apps it tends to overheat but it will not damage the machine thats why they have fans to coll them off
if it gets really hot then take it to the apple store and there might be a problem with the cooling system

My macbook pro is becoming too hot. How can I treat this problem.

No I dont play games. Simple flash video heat it up and sometimes a few minutes after switching it on, it becomes hot.

  • How Hot Is Too Hot For Late 2008 Macbook Unibody?

I'm still in the process of adjusting to life in the world of Macs and I was wondering just how hot is too hot for the CPU to be running at with the Unibody 13 inch Macbook?

The sensors are set to put the computer in thermal shutdown at 212F to prevent catastrophic damage.

  • 2006 White macbook gets hot?

I have a 2006 macbook 2,1 with the 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB ram, and a 160GB hard disk. It is running Lion 10.7.5.
I am pretty tech savvy and bought this machine used. I cleaned it up and upgraded the ram, hard disk and OS to the above specs. It has always run hot since I bought it. Here's what I've done so far to try to correct the issue:
I cleaned and re-applied thermal paste
cleaned the dust from the exhaust vent from both inside and outside the laptop. it is very clean inside and outside now.
Even just browsing the internet for 30-60 minutes the fans crank up and the mac is hot to the touch. The fans are quiet for the first 30-60 minutes and then just crank way up. I don't get it. It has a fresh OS install with only Firefox running when this happens. It doesn't take long for the temp to reach 133 degrees Fahrenheit.
My 2006 imac 5,1 has the 2.0Ghz core 2 duo and 2gb ram also, but stays consistently at about 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Is there anything else I can do to help the temperatures on this macbook?

You could try a different web browser and see about turning off Flash, and any
add-ons in one browser to see if that uses less system resources & runs cooler.
A separate browser for non-intense browsing can help, when you don't need
the other extras that make the computer work harder.
My old first-edition MacBook1.1 is a coreduo 1.83GHz and tops out at 2GB RAM
and will not go beyond Snow Leopard 10.6.8 for practical reasons, to include a
need to access older applications, as some utilize PPC code, so Rosetta support
that is lacking in OS X 10.7 won't help the usefulness of such an older model.
If your MacBook runs too hot in Lion, had you similar result in Snow Leopard?
There isn't much relief in a slight upgrade to 3GB RAM instead of two; depending
on what model version identifier yours is, it may be able to use more. Though a
slightly different model early MacBook core2duo appears it could use up to 6GB.
My MB1.1 is up on a laptop stand so it is in the air, & use USB keyboard/mouse.
Cooler than on the tabletop or on the lap, since it can breathe easier. Mine is also
still running Leopard 10.5.8, same as my older G4s, but with better results. As such
I have a patched Flash player, though use four browsers for various reasons.
    Good luck!

  • Mac Mini too hot?

I would like to know if these readings are considered "too hot" for a mac mini (current gen):
    HD: 42 C
    CPU : ~55 C
    Ambient: 40 C
Temperature readings are from iStat Nano, and the current outside temperature is about 90F (unfortunately, no air conditioning or fans in the room).
The reason I'm worried is because the mini feels very hot to the touch, and I don't even hear the fans inside running even though I'm sitting less than 3 feet away from it. The current fan speed is 1791rpm.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

If it makes you feel any better my unibody mini runs similarly hot, and yes, mine too is hot to the touch (but far from being so hot I need to take my hand off it). Interestingly but not surprisingly, the side that the power supply is on feels noticeably hotter than the other size.
I think this is normal and expected as I previously compared it to the hot bottom of a MacBook Pro which makes perfect sense considering the aluminum unibody design and MacBook Pro parts inside + the internal power supply. I sometimes think the aluminum unibody design was intentional to double as a large heat sink. The ventilation where my mini rests probably doesn't provide the best air flow as it sits on a home-theatre style shelving system which is complete closed at the back with the exception of a small hole to run cables through. Actually, my generation one G4 mini in the same location would run so hot at times it would force the system to sleep (or a "coma" as I liked to say ha) to cool down.
Maybe someone should start a thread to post their unibody temperature readings? But I think there would have to be some standardization in the sampling as my CPU can run as cool as 50C and as hot as 78C depending on the load on the system.

  • Too hot to use

    Hello Gang,
For the last two weeks or so my MacBook Pro has become too hot to use. The bottom is so hot that I can not longer use it in my lap and the top, especially the left side gets so hot that I must stop typing. Also, the fans run continually.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    TIA,
    James

Open Activity Monitor and look for a process run wild that is hogging your CPU, devouring your battery when AC isn't connected, and generating lots of excess heat.

  • When is it too hot for your mac pro?

I recently switched graphics cards from the x1900 ATI to their new HD 3870 because of heating issues. While the new card is not having problems my Mac did freeze when the internal temp from my SMC control read 97 degrees. At what point is hot too hot and is there some way to cool the temp besides increasing fan speed (which didnt seem to do the trick anyway)?

At that temperature for a sustained period of time over time will lead to your thermal paste on the CPU to fail. Actually, alot of the thermal paste sitting on the board will fail eventually but at high temps for sustained periods of time can't be great. And if you've ever seen iFixit's breakdown of the macbook pro, there are gobs and gobs of thermal paste all over the dang thing.... I say use away and make sure you get apple care !! hehe because if any of the problems you get are related to hardware it can always be fixed.... or swapped
But 100 C is not that hot for a CPU or GPU... in fact it's borderline warm. Most CPUs I have run up 140-165 and operate around that temperature... I think your safe for the most part. Just backup your stuff onto an external occasionaly, and if worse comes to worse make sure you have apple care and bring her on in.... I'm curious to hear what other's say about the operating temperatures. If you look in your manual Apple says normal operating temp is like 50 - 65 or something and they say 105 C should be your max....

  • What is too hot?

what is too HOT for my MB. I have SMC fanc control and I use this to tell what temp my MB is at. My MB reached 155 F. today w/o any programs running except SMC. I have searched these forums and I haven't found a clear awnser to this. thanx for the help.

There is really no clear answer, only normal ranges that people experience without problems.
Just judging by my own experience, I would say that 135-140 F would be a normal operating temperature- It is at that range that the MacBook normally hovers without reving up the fans.
Under load, the computer may get up to 170-185, but at that point the fans are going full throttle to bring the temp back down around the 130s.
I wouldn't worry too much about 155, but if you are constantly at that temp, you may want to check to see if there isn't some other process running in the background that is causing the CPU to heat up.

  • First mac, is it getting too hot?

Hi, I just bought my first macbook pro a couple days ago (15 inch 2.2 ghz, 4gb of RAM, 500gb @7200rpm) and was wondering if it is getting too hot. I have been playing a game on it and have been noticing it that it is getting pretty hot, so I downloaded SMC fancontrol to monitor the temperature. While I'm playing the game the temperature is anywhere between 80 and 85 degrees celcius at a fan rpm of anywhere between 2500 and 3600. I am just wondering if this is too hot or should be a concern to me. Thanks a lot.

I would say those numbers are too high. Considering you can coagulate tissue at 70C. If those temps (80+ celcius) were correct, you would probably have permanent grey patches of skin that would eventually slough off leaving holes on your lap.  Ha ha. Seriously though those temperatures would coagulate your tissue.
If you're concerned, get a secondary surface thermometer. Also I think there are companies that sell lap covers to put your computer on while you work.

  • When battery charging ,the left of MBP is very too hot to suffer

when charging the battery of macbook pro(101)that was bought in 2012, the left part of  the computer is too hot to suffer, which is near the range of the connector between the computer and the recharge. is it normal?  what I  worry about is that the component of computer working under high temperature will be less life.

It will not harm the computer, That is where the dc board is, it can get very hot sometimes, especially since the majority of the heat producing components are near the upper right corner too. If its very very hot, I mean like enough to burn you then maybe there is a problem.

  • Retina MacBook Too Warm?

Over the past few days my Macbook Pro has become abnormally warm, almost too hot to touch on and around the location where the display connects to the bottom portion. On the bottom of the laptop as well where "Macbook Pro" is engraved is very hot. Additionally, the 60w charger block where you connect it into the wall as well.
Nothing triggers this to happen, it is always hot from now on. I keep the unit on a glass surface.
It is a MacBook Pro w/ Retina 13" Late 2013
