Macbook touchpad too sensitive

I have a Macbook Pro running all the latest software (i.e. patches are all up to date). Since I purchased the Macbook I've noticed that the touchpad is way too sensitive. I'm often using it without a mouse so having the touch turned on is nice, but it is so sensitive it is constantly clicking when I don't want it to, no matter how soft I try to use the pad.
I can't seem to find a way to adjust the sensitivity.
Anyone know how to do this, or do I need to turn off touch-to-click options?
Thanks!
Clark

1. System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad
     Double-click speed
Try adjusting the speed a bit lower.
2. Shutdown the computer.
Clean the Trackpad with a dry microfiber cloth.

  • Clicking on touchpad too sensitive, how to change..

I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9530. I want to change the touchpad sensibility to clicking, as it is too sensitive, but I can't find this option in control panel --> mouse --> "dell touchpad".
I'm NOT looking for a way to change the sensitivity to moving the cursor, that one I can find, but clicking to select etc on the touchpad. What happens all the time is when I want to just move the cursor the touchpad believes I'm clicking and I accidentally select files/moves them etcetc..
Sorry for not being able to explain this better, english is not my first language.

    Hi,
If the machine is on windows 8,
under the Windows 8 settings app (-> PC and devices -> Mouse and touchpad). This is apparently configurable only in the settings app, and not anywhere under the Control Panel.

  • Touchpad too sensitive on G580

    Friends
My wife is using a Lenovo G580 with Win 8.1 and she complains that the touchpad is way too sensitive. Sometimes she hardly touches the surface, or even just touch the side of the touchpad and the computer does weird things. Is there a way to de-sensitive it? Or, can it be de-acitvated? The latter is not a good option as she uses it on her lap often and cannot use an external mouse at that time.
    Thanks

  • Touchpad too Sensitive -- Lenovo Wireless Touchpad 5923

How do I turn down the sensitivity of my K5923?  Can I do this without changing my laptop's touchpad sensitivity?
I'm running on Windows 7 using a Dell XPS 15z.
The mouse just moves around too quickly for me to be accurate.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Touchpad too sensitive to tapping gesture

Since updating to Windows 10 three days ago, my SynapticsTouchpad is too sensitive to tapping. When I disable the tapping gesture in the touchpad settings by unchecking the "tapping gesture" box, the touchpad works fine. However, whenever I shut down or restart the computer, the "tapping gesture" box checks  itself again automatically when the PC powers back up. Having to go into settings to disable tapping every time I boot up sucks. I need to either make the touchpad sensitivity less sensitive  to tapping  (a work-around) or find a way to keep the tapping gesture from re-enabling itself every time the machine reboots (ideal solution). There is no sensitivity adjustment available in the settings. The current driver is version 19.0.12.95 dated 7-15-2015. The HP Support Assistant says that this is the most current version available. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Touchpad Too Sensitive

I've had a Satellite L875-S7208 for about a month, and am sick and tired of the extreme sensitivity of the touchpad.  I don't even had to touch it...if my hand is anywhere near it, it clicks and goes to the next page.  I only want it to work when I physically click the left-click button.
Don't tell me to go to control panel/mouse pad.  There IS no such option in the control panel, and I've searched it thoroughly.
    This is terribly frustrating.

I think it varies on touchpad driver, but for those of us with Elan Smart Pad, there is no option to disable the tap to click feature. However, there is a fairly simple work-around that requires a quick registry edit. Here's the steps that worked for me:
1)Push the Windows Key + R and type "regedit" - click ok
    2)Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Elantech/SmartPad
3)Find the file "Tap_Enable" and double click on it
4)Change the value data from 1 to 0
Tap to click will still be enabled until you log out and then log back in. Your tap to click should now be disabled.
Hope that helps those with the same driver as me!

  • Use Trackpad to zoom in and out - Too sensitive in Safari 4

Hi, I just installed Safari 4 three days ago. Without changing any settings, now I found out that when I use trackpad to zoom in/out the font, it responses too sensitive than it did in previous Safari. It jumps up/down at least two levels every time I try to adjust the font size. It is not that controllable anymore.
Has anyone else noticed this? How do I fix this? Thanks!

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro. The zoom feature is way too sensitive for my liking, however, there is no way at the moment to control it. As this is a Beta version, these oddities will occur. Hopefully, when Safari 4 is released in final version (no date yet announced) this problem will be fixed.
As I previously did, let Apple know what you are experiencing with the trackpad via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple. If you want to go back to Safari 3, use the Uninstaller that's included in the Safari 4 Downloads package. This is the only safe way to go back to Safari 3.

  • Too sensitive

When Im using the pen tool in illustrator Im finding that its too sensitive. For example when I add or select a point quite often I will move point, or  the bezier curves will move or the entire path will move slightly. It seems to be very hyper sensitive.  Im using a wacom intuos and I have tried all different settings but still seems to be very fiddly. I cant get anything done because it frustrates me too much. Using the mouse is ok its only with the wacom i have this problem.  Also is thee a way to set my mouse pad to zoom. I can do this in photoshop and its very handy but cant find a way in illustrator.  Im using macbook pro.

It's in the selection panel of the prefs.
Have you considered that the Wacom driver may also be broken. I have a Wacom as well and mine also won't work well in certain cirsumstances.

  • Touchpad to sensitive

    Personally i have a HP Proobook 6570b.
Me and many of my colleagues have a problem.
The touchpad is too sensitive. When you write you often touch the pad accidently and then the mouse jumps around.
It isn’t crap behind the wheels, I’ve had like 12 HP laptops over the years and never experienced this.
It´s most irritaiting when you write the text and then look up and notice that you written "Lorem ipsum" because the mouse had jumped like kids in kindergarten.
We have given notice to our internal support and nothing happened.
Some of my colleagues have glued a thick paper over the Touchpad and use a regular mouse.
    Anyone got an idee?

    Hello MAgisterkrister,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP ProBook 6570b Notebook PC is a commercial product. You can do this at Notebook - HP ProBook, ZBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE.
The support page for your product may be helpful in the meantime:

  • Mouse too sensitive or driver problem?

I've noticed that for the past half year, my mouse buttons have been too sensitive. I'll attempt to singleclick, but it will register as a doubleclick.
Does it sound like my mouse is too sensitive (maybe because the contacts are dirty) or is something xorg wrong with the input drivers that would cause this to occur? I do know that there was a problem a while ago with jumpy/jittery mouse control, but that never happened to me.

Hi people. I'have this problem too with my Synaptics Touchpad. I've installed gsynaptics tool (Preferences->Touchpad) and selected "Tapping Time" to the shortest value with no effect apparently, it is still too damn sensitive.
Also, my xorg.conf is completely commented out! So I think everything is HAL-detected. Any ideas ?

My daughter's iPhone 3gs has just been replaced by Apple. When she tried to restore her backup files she was told to upgrade to itunes 10, but she can't because her Macbook is too old to run it. What do we need to do to get all her stuff onto the new phone?

Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL.

  • Shake too sensitive?

Is there any way to deal with an iPad 2 whose "shake" sensor is too sensitive?
Simply typing on it is enough to trigger a "shake" response which undos what you just typed.
I am not asking about how to disable the shake sensor, but how to adjust it to make it less sensitive to unintended invocation.
Evidently, it has been this way out-of-the-box (ie, a few months), but the person using it didn't realize that it was not normal until they were typing on mine.

Wow.  I did not even know that there was a shake to undo.  Learn soething every day.  But i notice your profile says  you are on 4.3.   It may be that they tweaked that with the more recent software upgrades.

  • Apple mouse scrolling is too sensitive in Yosemite

I've use a wired USB Apple mouse with scroll ball (A1152) on my iMac 27", and since upgrading to Yosemite, the mouse scrolling has been way too sensitive and doesn't allow any fine adjustment of scrolling speed/acceleration in system preferences. In the Mouse preference pane, the 1st position on the Scrolling slider is way too slow–a full scroll of the bar down moves about 1/4 of a full webpage at native resolution with very slow acceleration. The 2nd slider position is not any faster than the 1st. The 3rd slider position accelerates way, way faster, and scrolls a distance of about 8 full pages using a moderate flick of the scroll ball. At this high sensitivity, I need to scroll fairly carefully to move only one page. In a finder window with 500 items, it accelerates fast enough to move from top of the list to the bottom with less than one full finger swipe of the ball at moderate speed. Any setting from 3-8 on the Scrolling slider is the same speed and acceleration and is way too fast to use in a well-controlled manner. The behavior system-wide and is the same in any browser (Safari, Firefox, Chrome). This is nothing like how it behaved in OS X Lion through Mavericks over the past four years. Also, I can set the scrolling slide to the 3rd position, close system preferences, and go back in to find that it has set itself to the 2nd position, but the scrolling behavior is that of the 3rd position until I move the slider again.
I've trashed some .plist files from ~/Library/Preferences/ that I thought would reset things (com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist and others) upon logout/login, but the behavior persists. I've tried a few pieces of software to try to override mouse settings, and while they will affect the mouse tracking speed and acceleration, they don't work well at controlling the scroll speed. I've reset the PRAM and SMC. I've created a new user account. Nothing has allowed usable adjustment of scroll speed/acceleration of the Apple mouse.
Any suggestions on how I can regain in Yosemite the usable adjustment of scroll speed/acceleration that were in all previous OS versions would be appreciated.

Try setting the scroll wheel scaling manually, by running the following command in the Terminal and then logging out and then back in to re-load the settings:
defaults write -g com.apple.scrollwheel.scaling -float VALUE
In this case, try values of 1, 0.5, 0.25, etc, decreasing in half each time to see how the scroll wheel sensitivity responds, and then use the one that works best. Alternatively, you can use the system preferences to set the sensitivity to the two values you have used so far, followed by running the following command between each to see what the value is for each:
    defaults read -g com.apple.scrollwheel.scaling
Then you can determine some intermediate value to use, and use the first command above to set it to that value (again followed by logging out and then back in so the value will load).
