MacBook Travel Adaptor

I've just purchased a new MacBook. With an iGo universal adaptor and an appropriate "tip", I was able to power my previous laptops on air. Also, buying other tips allow me to powre ipod, blackberry, cell phones with the same adoptor.
Does anyone know if there is a similar product for the MacBook that uses the MagSafe connector?
Thanks,

None so far. The MacBook/MacBook Pro's MagSafe adapter is patented technology and apparently Apple has not licensed it out yet (or if they have, no third party manufacturer has produced one yet). I sure hope something will come along soon, even if it is from Apple. I have a Kensington Auto/Air adaptor that I used with my iBook, and I would like to be able to buy just a new tip.

  • Does anybody know if it is ok to use a standard travel adaptor with macbook magsafe 85w power supply?

I am moving to New Zealand and want to take my macbook pro with me.
    I have a Magsafe 85w power supply.
I am aware of the apple travel kit.
Do i need to purchase this, or is a standard travel adaptor safe?
Do i need a lower watt magsafe power supply?
Should i get a grounded 3 prong adaptor rather than the ungrounded 2 prong adaptor that comes with the apple travel kit? Particularly with long term use.
    Thank you all!

The item that is crucial is the connector to the AC outlet.  The power adapter will work from 100 to 240 volts.
    Ciao.
A grounded plug is always preferable.

  • Travel adaptor for Macbook with magsafe connector?

Has anyone found anyone that sells a aircraft travel adaptor for the Macbook?
Kensington do one for the old iBook but a magsafe connector version has not appeared.
Hopefully this is not becasue Apple have patented the design of the magsafe connector and are not letting anyone else produce them.
If this is indeed the case, and Apple don't produce their own travel adapter, I will be quite cross as the whole point of having a laptop is so you can take it with you when you are travelling.
If the voltages for the iBook are the same as the Macbook how about producing an iBook to Magsafe adapter so we can use the 3rd party travel adapters?

I just checked and the prongs on my MB adapter are exactly the same as the ones on my iPod power adapter. They should work just fine.
From a manufacturing standpoint, it makes no sense to have two different products for the same exact job.

  • How do I replace one adaptor from my Apple World Traveler Adaptor Kit?

How do I replace one adaptor from my Apple World Traveler Adaptor Kit?

If you have lost it then you might find a single replacement you can purchase at a AAA travel store. You could call your local Apple Store to ask, but Apple does not sell the adapters separately.

can I connect my ipad to a all in one travel adaptor when I will be in Europe

The only Adaptor you need is the one that allows you to connect the iPads’ cable to the Wall Outlet... Is this what you mean...

  • Macbook hdmi adaptor

I have a macbook pro 15" from late 2010, i have a belkin hdmi adaptor from the apple store.  the adaptor was working fine for a couple months, but now it is acting up.  the screen on the mac keeps turning blue but my 46' tv keeps saying detecting.
The display from the macbook actually shows up on the tv at times, but goes away when i move my macbook.
I'm thinking maybe something happened to the adaptor or the port on the macbook because i travelled with the macbook while the hdmi adaptor was connected.

so i have a 2007 macbook (black) and saw this thread and heard the same from other people. so i bought the moshi mini displayport to hdmi adapter to try and watch videos (streaming movies and itunes purchases) on my tv. i got the extra cable for sound, as recommended also. However, i cannot even get the picture to show up on my tv. i have my input on the tv to the correct hdmi port and the adapter plugged into what i think is the right firewire port but nothing is showing up on my tv screen.
before i even worry about the sound, i want to make sure the video picture even works, but i keep getting "no signal." any suggestions?

  • Macbook dvi adaptor issue

i have a older macbook and the screen is out but it works. I checked at the genius bar. I bought the mac dvi to avi pc adaptor and when i plug it into the external monitor all i get is the purple flash screen from the macbook but none of my icons or menu board. can you help me???

Can you see the desktop if you hold a flashlight on it? If you can then you have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Displays on the MacBook screen if you can see it you can move the Displays pane over to the other screen. There should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the external monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click onthe Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
Or  you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box to have the same display on both screens.

  • Can I use a Macbook power adaptor for MacBook Pro ?

    Hi,
Is its safe to use a power adaptor from a Macbook (white), to charge my Macbook Pro.
The difference is in the output of the adaptors: 3.65A (Macbook) vs. 4.56A (Macbook Pro).
    Thanks,
    Ori

In the past, I had an IBM Thinkpad laptop, when my adapter broke, I borrowed an adapter from a colleague. This adapter also had a lower capacity than the original adapter (I don't remember by how much).
It ran really hot but the Thinkpad would run fine on it, though it would only charge the battery if I turned it off... So either charging the battery or working with the laptop...
I'd say use it until you get the chance to buy a new one...

  • Can I use my Macbook power adaptor in Spain ?

    Hi
I am going on holiday to Tenerife where the voltage is 220v. Can I use the same power adaptor that I use in the UK ? The same goes for my my iPod dock ?

Yes, the power adapter for the MacBook is auto-sensing from 100 V to 240 V---you will be fine. Not sure what you mean by the iPod dock---if you mean the dock that you plug into the USB port---you will be fine. If you mean something else, then I don't know, but I suspect that if it is made by Apple, it will be for use worldwide.

  • Macbook power adaptor

I recently had an unexpected house guest, A rather friendly 6 month old rabbit called Puppy.
Puppy has managed to chew the wire on my power adaptor, not the mains cable (as I have read elsewhere) but the one from the power unit to the maglink connector. The power adaptor still works fine but the outer insulation is biten through and the strength and resilience of the cable is compromised.
Can this cable be replaced, ideally by me? There is no obvious way to open either the power unit or the maglink connector, so before trying I thought I would ask.

I would suggest checking the cable thoroughly to be sure that it is still intact except for the insulation. If it is you could use liquid tape to make a nice clean repair that is almost as good as heat shrink once it sets up.
If the Brick is sealed like I think it is (plastic fusing adhesive) there is no safe, easy way to open it.

  • MB and world travel adapter kit

I'm thinking about buying a MB for use in travel. I have a world travel adaptor kit, but I notice the store page specifically does not list the kit as supporting the regular MB (it lists the MB Pro, iPods, etc.).
Does this mean the kit is not recommended for use with a MB? If not, why not, and what product, if any, is recommended?
And if I do decide to use the not-recommended adapter kit, what's the worst that can happen?
    Thanks for the help.
    MB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The kit is the one offered through Apple on this site's store. I originally bought it to charge an iPod overseas, and I've had it for about a year.
    According to the store page:
The World Travel Adapter Kit includes a set of six AC plugs with prongs that fit different electrical outlets around the world. For world travelers, this is the perfect kit to ensure power connectivity in most countries you may travel to. The Kit is designed to work with (and requires) the white portable power adapter that ships with iBook, MacBook Pro, and PowerBook G4, and it also works with the iPod USB Power Adapter and iPod FireWire Power Adapter (available separately). The AC plugs included in the World Travel Adapter Kit directly support outlets in North America, Japan, China, United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Korea, Australia, and Hong Kong.
Compatible with power adapters for iBook, MacBook Pro, PowerBook G4, iPod USB Power Adapter, and iPod FireWire Power Adapter.
It does not say regular MB, so I don't know if it's compatible or if there's something else out there, either made by Apple or another vendor, that is recommended. I don't want to fry a brand new MB on its first trip out of the country.
    Thanks for your help.

  • What connector do I need for air travel?

    Hi all,
I'm taking my MPB on safari with me to Botswana in the middle of May...since I'm going all the way from Canada I have almost 2 days of travelling with 2 10 hour flights. I've heard planes have power connections these days. What do I need to be able to plug it in on the plane?
Flight is with Lufthansa if that makes any difference...don't know if these connections are standardized or what. I also have a 10 hour stop over in Germany, what do I need to stay connected to a power source?
    Thanks!

I have just returned from a painful trans-Pacific trip with my MBP.
Older [ie almost all - Chapter 11] United aircraft have a proprietary eMPower adaptor unlike any other. I had a connector for my Powerbooks from www.smartdisk.com which simply plugged the two together with no brick, but none is available for the Magsafe.
Newer aircraft have 110/220v with a variety of plugs and you simply plug the brick in. I recommend a world travel adaptor set from Apple, though a US 2pin will work - UK 3 pins usually will not.
An alternative is a Targus or similar device which will feed the Apple brick - but be sure you have the appropriate connector. This issue is such a pain it is worth checking with the airline what will be on the aircraft serving your route.
Come on Apple - some of us travel with our portable computers...!?

  • How to power US Macbook Air in UK

To charge my US Macbook Air when traveling in the UK, do I need a voltage converter or can I use an inexpensive adapter plug to fit UK outlets?

    Just get one of these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/US-UK-Plug-Travel-Adaptor/dp/B0006OFKNC
I use one all the time (bought MBA while on business in the US) and it works a treat.
