MacBook trying to connect wireless printer via A Express

Am trying to connect my macbook with an existing linksys network to a wireless printer via an Apple Express.
The computer seems to reconize the Apple Express but, in following the instructions to use the Printer Setup Utility to get the computer to recognize the connection, when I designate my printer I get and error message......." An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer Error -9672"
Does anyone know a cure or, at least, where to research "error 9672" ??

  • Macbook will not connect to printer via the network

I have my G5 computer connected to my home network airport extreme with an ethernet cable. I have a new Canon MX 860 (which will work over a network) which is also connected to the airport extreme with an ethernet cable (wired lan connection). The G5 and the Canon work well together; printing and scanning etc.
I have a Macbook that will not connect to the Canon via the network. I have checked and rechecked the setup and am stumped. I get various failure notices:
"The "Canon..." printer could not be found in your list of printers" (altho it is listed)
"Unable to get printer status (forbidden)"
"Status: In use, Default" (altho the printer is ready and not in use)
"Operation could not be completed -client-error-not-possible"
Both computers are setup for printer sharing and the printer list allows the Canon to be shared.
The network works well supporting Macbook and several Tivos.
Any help on what I should try next?
    Thanks for any suggestions
    John

    Hello John,
For starters, you don't need printer sharing enabled. Since the MX860 is connected to the extreme via Ethernet, then the MacBook should be able to connect directly to the MX860 via wireless or wired.
For either type of connection, you need to add the printer via More Printers > Canon IJ Network. You should not connect via the Default browser view, as this will only show the shared printer via the G5 (which you should disable). In fact, based on the errors you are getting, it does sound like you have added the printer by selecting the shared offering.
So I would delete the current printer queue and add again, using the More Printers > Canon IJ Network menu. This window should show the MX860 with its MAC address in brackets. When you select it and press Add, the printer will be created with a name something like 'Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)'.
If the printing still fails with the printed added as above, then please reply.

  • Trying to connect wireless printer, asking for password for time capsule?

Trying to connect new wireless printer and it's asking for my password for my time capsule.  I don't remember that I had entered one initially, but maybe I did and just forgot.  Any way to retrieve a password for time capsule?

  • Trying to Connect Wireless Printer

Seems like a silly question to me...but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this.
I just bought a Lexmark X6570 Wireless Printer, in hopes that it would wirelessly connect to my Airport Extreme. However, the only printer configurations I see for the Airport Extreme are to actually plug the computer into the Airport Extreme.
Is there any way to add my new printer to the network without physically connecting it to the Extreme?

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click on Edit in the small window
Click the Base Station menu at the uppermost top of the computer screen up where the Help, File, Window, etc menus appear

  • Wireless printing via airport express

Ive encountered a problem when it comes to printing over my home wireless network. The network consists of a single airport express base station connected via ethernet to my modem and broadcasting a wireless signal for both a macbook and a acer laptop to access the internet, which works just fine.
I also have a HP deskjet multifunction printer connected to the base station via the usb port, witch also shows up in the airport utility as being connected to the router. I'm aware that the scan function will only work when its directly connected to the computer, but as for printing, Ive set up the printer using bonjour for windows on the acer laptop, and that machine is able to print via the base station with no troubles at all.
Here is the problem. I'm able to add the printer to the list of printers on the macbook using the correct driver, and it says under location that its connected to the airport express, but when I go to print (a test page, etc) the document wont print. i get the following message - "Unable to read response header - short read" and it just hangs in line until I cancel the job. Ive tried the options on the apple troubleshooting guide, removing and adding the printer, restarting the base station and the multifunction, etc, but still no result. any ideas?

you might find pointers in the _*Printer Troubleshooting Guide*_.

  • I cannot find the 'WPA passphrase' to connect my printer via wireless and cannot find it in Airport utility (MAC says it cannot find any open airports)

    MAC OS X 10.6.3 - desktop Mac
I browsed similar questions and saw that someone recommended going to the Airport Utility and then selecting manual set up or something- anyways, it could not find any airports. I have brought my printer from my house as my BF's has died - this is the first time it's asked for a WPA passphrase. We tried a very long series of capital letters and numbers as well as the password for the internet and both times the printer said "invalid passphrase"..... ......

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

  • Macbook does not see wireless printer

My laserjet 1102w is connected to an airport extreme and I can print wirelessly from a windows 7 pc.
However, my Macbook Pro does not see the wireless printer. I can print though if I connect the printer directly via USB.
When trying to add a printer via the '+'button in Finder > Printer & Fax there is no response and nothing to connect to.
Anyone knows how to resolve this ?

    Hi,
Be sure to enable Wireless Direct as listed within Steps one below, as well locate the display name as listed:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03351623&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &product=5169041&tmp_track_link=ot_search#N96
Once you are done click the WiFi icon on your Mac and select Join Other Network.
Click on Show Networks and the Wireless Direct network should be listed there.

  • Just bought a mac and trying to connect to printer? help!

Hi i just bought a macbook pro, and i am trying to connect my macbook to a printer
it is a Brother DCP-135C printer
im lost as to what to do, i have tried everything :/
    thanks

If you connect the printer via USB and got it to print anything, you know it is basically working.
If you want to print via WiFi, you need to tell the printer what IP Address to use, and what the WiFi password is so that it can talk on your Network.
On some printers, you can configure this over the USB connection in advance. On others, you have to use your fingers on its Control Panel (on the front of the Printer chassis).
If you have a WiFi Network that uses 10.11.12.1 as the Router address, a good place to assign for the Printer is above the addresses normally given to computers, but below .254. .200 is usually a good choice if you have not already assigned it. For a 192.168.0.1 Network, 192.168.0.200 is usually available.
Then you have to tell it the network password, so that it can talk on the Network.
Then you should launch Network Utility and try to send it two or more Ping's and see that it answers.
You may find this article helpful:
OS X: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
Once it answers, Use Add-a-Printer, but do not use the default Browser. Use IP Browser, and specify its IP address. You also need to know whether it will use Internet Printing Protocol, LinePrinterDaemon (LPD), or hp JetDirect Socket (which is used by more than just hp printers). This information should be in your manual.
If it sees the Printer at the Address you specified, it will make sure the correct Driver is in place for you.

  • Can't connect to printer via usb print server

So I've tried to connect to an EPSON stylus printer from my iMac via a print server with no success.
Here's some info to help focus the questions/help:
iMac running Mavericks, Epson SP R200 printer, Belkin Play router, Toshiba Satellite laptop, Level1 USB print server
Win8.1 laptop prints via print server just fineso IP, port, firewall issues on router/print server side are ruled out.
I have the fire wall off on the iMac
I've quadruple checked IP and subnet numbers of iMac to rest of network, and they all jive.
I can pull up the config page of the print server via Safari on the iMacso connectivity is there
I previously had the printer attached directly to the iMac, and successfully printed.
I've tried to add the printer via IP > LPD method AND Advanced > Windows printer via spoolss
I can get as far as adding the printer, but as soon as I attempt to print a test page the printer has a "filter" error, or some "color" error, the job just goes into nothingness, or the job just sits there and the que is paused.
This is very frustrating to put it nicely.
    -Vince

What driver are you using? - Don't know if you remember, but you had to be using Gutenprint, because Epson's driver for USB-only printers, only works via USB.

  • My macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

  • My iPhone 5S no longer sees my wireless printer via bluetooth

my iPhone 5S no longer sees my wireless printer via bluetooth.  All it does in Settings is continually search for devices.  I've rebooted the phone, as well as the printer.  I even sat next to the printer with no luck.  It did find the printer when I initially set it up.

Did this work for you in the past?
ios does not support bluetooth printers without extra software.
    Helper app -- /print n share
Print directly to the widest range of network or WiFi printers available in any app. Alternatively print via your computer to ALL printers including USB & Bluetooth printers. View read and display large PDF, Office & iWork files. Easily transfer & store files from the Cloud or your computer.

You need to buy the right printer.
The iPad uses a print technology called AirPrint. Airprint is a particular communication protocol that flows over WiFi.  So, having a WiiFi printer isn't sufficient. The printer needs to be of an Airprint variety of WiFi.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

  • What is the difference between connecting a printer via USB or Ethernet ?

What is the difference between connecting a printer via USB or Ethernet ?

When a Printer with an Ethernet connector is connected via Ethernet, it becomes a peer device on your Network. It is available whenever it is on for all users on your Network.
When connected via USB, it relies on your computer to "Share" it onto the local Network. It is only available when the attached computer is on. It takes resources from that computer to facilitate printing for any User.
