Macbook typing in all caps, shift key issue.

Alright, so I've been battling with this for a bit now, as I discovered to my chagrin: My macbook is now only typing in caps. Upon pressing Command + Q to try and close an application, I noticed it brought me to the "log out" prompt, suggesting the problem was a stuck shift key. I've removed both keys and checked for any particulates and they're all clean. Any ideas?

No. Sounds like you powered it backup while it was still wet. If so the damage is done. Problems will only get worst as corrosion sets in.
Suggest you take it to Apple and ask them for the cost of repair it.

  • I spilled a little water in MacBook-typing in all caps and booting in safe mode. Any hope?

I spilled a little water into my MacBook. It worked fine after but a couple hours later,it began typing in all caps. It now only boots in safe mode and still types in all caps. Is there any hope for it if I leave it turned off to dry? How many days should I do this for before I give up?

  • New iMac typing in all caps/symbols issue

Hello, I have a new iMAC purchased in October, 2014. About a month after using it  I noticed it began typing in all caps or symbols instead of numbers.  Whether I was online, using Word, Entourage etc. Checked online for others with same issue, did the  Command +R...or restarted the computer and that would work for a couple of days, then back to all caps.  I checked the battery, mouse/keyboard settings-everything was as it should be.  So I called Apple Support and they sent me a new keyboard/mouse, worked for 2 days then the same thing started happening.  Checked all setting again, seems like the left/right button were reversed in wireless keyboard settings so that the right button opened an icon and the left button gave options instead of vice versa.  So changed that, again the mouse/keyboard worked ok for a few days now it's back to the same thing, all caps.  Haven't had the symbols reappear though.  Does anyone know why this is happening? I am thinking of restoring to factory settings and importing my files and such again to see if that will help...unless someone has a better idea or know the cause of this?
    Thanks in advance

Could tell you for sure if you let us know what template you are talking about, but I would guess that it is because the default text box is set to All Caps. To change it go to Format Menu>Font>Capitalization>None.
Let me know if this fixed it for you. If it didn't, let us know what template you are experiencing this problem in.

  • How to stop from typing in all caps

my mac book all of the sudden decided to start typing in all caps ") so much fun anyone have a solution??

I assume you have tried to deal with the CAPS LOCK key.
Perhaps a PRAM reset will correct this:

If not, a trip to an Apple store genius bar would be my next step.

  • MacBook Shutdown On Boot w/Shift Key

I just found out that I can reproduce a (not so) random shutdown 100% of the time on my MacBook. For some reason if I hold the shift key down durring boot, the MacBook shuts off every time on the screen with the apple and the spinning wheel...
I've already sent in my MacBook for repair of the random shutdown issue, and the firmware update that was also supposed to fix it is also installed... All be it since both the hardware repair and the firmware update I've had a small handful of the regular type random shutdown issues...
I filmed the pattern occuring & posted it online. It's interesting to note that it's specifically the holding of the Shift Key that's causing it, as it will boot normally otherwise...

    hi,
    regarding the external drive question
i would ask the question in the boot camp forum.
regarding space issues on a mbp:
i solved my space problems using the "printer repair utility" and the additional delete of some files/apps like garageband including the sounds files.
maybe "Disk Inventory X" will help you getting an overview about your disk-usage.
i hope this hints offer a small first help for you.
    best regards

  • Shift key issues

just got my laptop back from repair. i turned it on, and everything seemed fine, except for an exorbitant about of time booting up. i tried to turn on the back light on the keyboard, and it didn't work. neither would the shift key, as clearly seen . i rebooted, and now the back light works, but the shift key still will not go. also, when i type, the keyboard keeps making it look like i'm holding down shift; not just on caps lock, because i tried to use an apostrophe earlier when it was malfunctioning, and it came out as a quotation mark. if anyone could tell me how to fix this, i would be forever grateful.
    thanks,
    k

If these problems started after the repair, I would contact whoever did the repair about it. It's possible a cable was dislodged or is not well seated--or perhaps some collateral damage was done during the course of the repair. Also, ask about the extremely slow boot. You should not be having new problems following a repair.
    Good luck!

  • Wireless Keyboard (3x Battery Version) -  Shift Key Issue

    Chaps,
I am using a 3G-WiFi iPad with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, which is great.
However, the RIGHT HAND Shift Key doesn't work for me.
Is this the same for other users?
(I am in UK, but maybe a US person can try too?)

  • My caps lock is off so why is my text in ps cs6 typing in all caps?

Im working on a poster that needs to get done asap but all my lettering are in caps. I tested my caps lock and they are off so why is everything still in caps? All the settings are the same as they were when I lasted opened it and there were no problems. How can I fix this issue?

Open the Window - Character panel and look to see if the little TT button is pressed.  Settings are sticky, so perhaps you used that function before.
You can reset the entire Text tool by right-clicking in the tool icon...

  • Keyboard typing in all caps

    hello,
I just got my macbook pro a week ago and I turned on my laptop to write an email. Then when
I typed it showed up in a CAPS and to type a lower case letter I had to turn on the capslock?
Please tell me how to fix this!

It sounds like your caps lock may be working in reverse or something like that. Possibly you have a defective keyboard. The best thing to do about this is to call Apple and ask or take it by an Apple store if you can. If they can't fix it or tell you how to, you will probably get a new keyboard under warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook pro backspace and caps lock keys stopped working?

My macbook pro keyboard has suddenly started playing up.  The backspace, caps lock and tab keys have stopped working.  Nothing has been spilt on it.  Any ideas in case it is a software glitch, please?

Take it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • Shift key doesn't over-ride caps lock?

    Hi all,
It's an entirely silly thing, and not something worth fretting about too much, but I noticed something today on my macbook 2nd gen running 10.4.11 - if I have caps lock on, and I am typing, holding down th shift key (either one) does not override the caps lock and make the letters go to lowercase. This is kind of odd, but I literally can't remember if I've ever done this before. Can anyone tell me if this is a mac specific thing (as on windows, I know I can do this), or is something horked on my machine? I checked my international settings et. all, everything seems to be in order, and yes, both my shift keys work just fine.
Thoughts are appreciated, as this is just kinda odd.
    Thanks.

I wonder...I have this vague recollection that it was this way under pre-X Mac OS's. Admittedly, I don't wonder strongly enough to unbox the OS8-running PowerPC 6500/225 in the basement...but maybe there's someone out there with better recollection than me.
Regardless, in Tiger it doesn't work that way.
