Macbook unusual behavior during early hours.

Well for starters I've had my Black Macbook, pretty sure it's 13 inches, for almost 3 years now. In that time I honestly can't recall this ever happening. I've heard it wake itself before, but that was because I still had something plugged into the USB port. Yesterday though it exhibited some unusual behavior though. One in which I don't ever recall encountering before. It had been asleep since around I believe 9am the previous day. However at 3:27am the unusual behavior occurred. While still sleeping, the same noise as when a cd/dvd is being ejected was made. It was somewhat loud I guess since the tv was on low and I didn't have any fan on. But after making the sound, the light indicating sleep no longer blinked instead it just stayed on. The apple in the lid wasn't lit so I don't think it woke up. But that sleep light just stayed lit for at least a minute. I was a bit shocked much to do anything else.
Well I then opened up the lid and my Mac woke up as usual. At first I thought it might have been doing the weekly update, but when checked it still showed the last time I checked it. Remembering something I read in a different thread on the forums I went and checked console to see if anything unusual happened.
Sure enough I found a log for around the exact time my Mac exhibited the unusual behavior.

Not sure if the entire post shows, but here's the log from console and a snippet from the system log of where I might think the problem started

  • Slow connection during early hours of the morning?...

    Hello,
I am using an unlimited broadband package supplied by BT.
My estimated speed is 5MB but during the day time and peak times it's about 300-400kb download, never hit the 5mb park.
However from about 11pm-5am my connection slows down to a horrifying extent, My ping and upload speed stays intact but during this off-peak time my download speed(according to my calculations) slows down by over 10-14x my normal speed... SpeedTest.net shows from range a range of tests I get 0.27-0.80mb download during this time period and when I come home later
So my first question is why is this and can it be resolved?
And my second question is there anything that can be done to improve my internet connection overall? Any package upgrade that would give faster speeds are not available to me.. yet.
    Many thanks,
    Regards,
    John

  • Repeated crashes - MacBook Pro 15-inch, Early 2011

Just this evening, my MacBook started crashing repeatedly. It has occurred 4 times in the last 4 hours.
The first time, I was watching a gif. My screen went completely black and did not come back (though the backlight was still on) and I restarted the computer manually.
The next time, I was watching a video. The screen turned black just as before and the audio stopped, but after a few seconds, white and red vertical stripes appeared over the entirety of the screen. I restarted the computer manually.
The third time, I was watching another video. The screen turned a lilac color with white vertical stripes. The audio was skipping. I restarted the computer manually.
The fourth time, I was just reading over a website when my computer went black and turned itself off.
    Any help?

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15' (early 2013) / Creaking noise and hinge loose

    Hi,
After a couple of months of using my Macbook Pro Retina 15' (early 2013) started to creak when closing and opening. At first it wasn't loud but now, when im not using it for couple of hours and then try to open it creaks really bad. Also i've noticed that on the left side of the hinge i've got more space then on the right side. Unfortunately my guarantee is over and i live in country where we dont have Apple Stores, ony premium resellers, and their services aren't good. In the links below you can find pictures of this loose hinge. My question here is: Does anybody know what i can do, or maybe know what needs to be done. Before taking it to my "professional" service i would like to know what's wrong with my macbook, so they won't rob me

  • MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011) not staring up at all

    Hi Everyone,
I have MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011). Since couple of weeks my Mac suddenly shuts down, when I try to restart it again I am not getting any response, no fan voice, no screen start up, no lights nothing. I read couple of blogs and found that in such situations we should check the battery by pressing the side button however no light flashes there. Since two weeks I am observing that sometimes after 3-4 days when I try to switch on my mac it works perfectly fine and after using it for 1-2 days it again unexpectedly shuts down and if I try to switch on it just after this it is not responding at all. When it is dead and I connect charger to my mac I see only dim green light which is unusual. When it is working and I connect the charger I see the green light as it was before.
I had also given my mac to Authorized Service Center for repair, they have already reset SMC, PRAM, however my issue isn’t resolved. I told them that this is happening again and again, they are saying that we have checked everything and there are no hardware issues, probably we need to format the entire mac.
Looking at the problem I described, do you guys have any suggestion? Formatting my mac is the solution or there is a hardware issue?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks!

You can install OS X on a external drive, boot from it and test it and rule out the possibility of software being the cause.

  • UNUSUAL BEHAVIOR

I have noticed some very unusual behavior with my iPhone4 lately. While charging the phone, the screen changes from the main screen to my contacts, or, to my camera, etc. This has also happened a few times when I was holding the phone in my hand...but not touching anything. I just did a reset...hopefully that will correct it. Anyone else having this issue?

If there was an error with the code itself, you would think it would be reflected in the select. Not true. For some kinds of bad code Oracle does make assumptions. A comparison over two different datatypes is an example for such "bad" code.
Oracle has to do conversion from one datatype to the other.
Here are rules that are used:
    >
The following rules govern the direction in which Oracle Database makes implicit datatype conversions:
    1) During INSERT and UPDATE operations, Oracle converts the value to the datatype of the affected column.
    2) During SELECT FROM operations, Oracle converts the data from the column to the type of the target variable.
Let's now look at your code
yearmonth BETWEEN 20075 AND 20077I assume that yearmonth is a string column.
Inside a select Oracle would compare like this (rule 2)
to_number(yearmonth) BETWEEN 20075 AND 20077Inside an insert Oracle would compare like this (rule 1)
yearmonth BETWEEN to_char(20075) AND to_char(20077)Not sure if this really explains the difference you have, but I would search for problems along those lines. It might also depend on the database version.
Could also be a different column that causes the error.

Return that RAM and buy either the Crucial ram (http://www.crucial.com) for your system or buy from OWC (http://www.macsales.com). I've used Cruical ram in many systems over the years with no issues, and have bought Samsung (factory fill) from OWC with no issues either.

  • Restrict iPod during bedtime hours/Children

Does anyone know of a function/app that would allow me to restrict access to the mobile devices during certain hours of the night? I have seen apps that set a daily timer, but I am more concerned about my children accessing their iPod after bedtime or waking up waaaay to early in the morning to play on their iPods.

  • Arlington, MA degraded network performance during working hours

Anybody got any thoughts or any Verizon tech want to pick this one up.
Gone through the usual troubleshooting steps, and am getting a new router shipped out, but not likely to rectify the problem as over past several days service has degrarde during working hours.
Internet connectivity intermittently fails for a few seconds to a minute and restores. Everything remians good with the router and my wired connection.
Bandwidth is good 50/20, but service drops, frequently trhoughout the day.
Initial tech said there was a "signal" issue, and now everything has been "rebooted", but issue remained...until about 6.00pm and no drops since then. Issues starts at around 9.00am.

I would suggest searching this forum and the Xsanity Forum, because there are quite a few posts about the Public network showing up in Xsan Admin. You would need to verify a few things, which are described in these posts. But most of the time, the Public Address in Xsan Admin is normal behavior.
I was chasing that down for a very long time, before I was comfortable saying that it wasn't a major issue. It seems like a quick way of testing how you client machine is connecting to your MDC, is to disable to the Private Network on your Client Machine, Reboot and see if Xsan admin will find the MDC. (of course, this test assumes that the client machine is the one that Xsan Admin is run from). If it can't find the MDC then your Client is talking to the MDC on the Private Network like it is suppose to.

  • My Macbook Pro (15-in early 2008) in need of display replacement doesn't come back from repair for 1 month now...

I left my Macbook Pro (15-inch early 2008 vers) w/ OSX 10.5.8 had a serious display problem - it was very touch sensitive and won't show full view immediately without touching more than several times on the right side of the screen. Sometimes it gives ridiculous amount of lines or repetitions, however, the harddrive was working just fine. (Upon getting the view back, all applications were working just fine.)
So I dropped it off at Apple 5th Ave (24hrs) store on March 19th. The MBP was received by an Apple repair hub (so not in-store repair) on the 23rd. Ever since it has been 'on-hold' status mentioning 'part on order'. So, today is April 19th. Exactly 1 month since I dropped it off.
I called Apple 5th Ave, which gave me a number to Apple repair dept. Upon having talked with a rep there, the particular part (because they were initially suspecting its logic board too) they have been waiting for is the very display. As it has been manufactured in Japan, it seems to be really back-ordered, obviously due to the current crisis in the northern Japan.
I heard that iPad2's displays have been seriously back-ordered too... but now I started worrying about my old MBP's display may be the lowest priority before such hot product like 'iPad2'??!! Being Japanese myself, I totally understand the situation... but if it'd take extremely long time even from now, it definitely causes me more than temporary problems as it is the only laptop that I use for everything I do. (Luckily, a friend of mine has been loaning her laptop until she will need it when she goes on trip. But it's been already a month instead of 5-7 business days turn-around that the genius bar rep initially told me. I have been using her laptop with my external disk but of course, it's been quite inconvenient.)
I'm wondering if Apple can help this situation by replacing the whole machine w/ a refurbished one from the same model??? or temporarily loaning me one?!? I'm just becoming desperate & worried now. Is there anyone who has a similar situation?!?

Call Apple and asked to be transferred to "Customer Relations." Explain everything to them and the will take care of you. Make sure you have all your documents and case numbers when you call.

  • MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2011 vs MacBook Air 13-inch 2013

Hello. I currently own a MacBook Pro 15-inch, early 2011 model. It has 8 GB of RAM, a quad-core, 2.3 GHz i7 processor, hi-res, anti-glare display, an AMD 6750m and Intel HD 3000. I bought it off of an Apple product store on Ebay about 3 and a half months ago. It was 1,350$. It was in perfect condition when I bought it, and it still is. I'm really into producing music, and I use Reason 6.5. I also do some other small things on my laptop, like word-processing, web-browsing and I bring it to school everyday. I was wandering if I should sell this laptop on Ebay, and buy a brand-new Macbook Air, 13-inch, 2013 model. The laptop is a little thick and heavy, and its battery-life is nothing compared to the MacBook Air. I really value battery-life I would probably upgrade the RAM to 8 gigs, and maybe upgrade the processor to 1.7 GHz, maybe upgrade the SSD to 256, but I might not. I was wandering if this would be a good idea. How much would I be able to sell this laptop for on Ebay? Is the MacBook Air weaker or stronger than the laptop I am using now? Screen real estate is something that matters a lot when using a music program, which is why I initially went for this laptop. Now, since the MacBook Air is smaller, I know that it displays just as much as this laptop does, so I don't think that the screen size would be that big of a problem. I am thinking about saving up for a 27-inch iMac, which would then be my primary machine, but if I were able to buy one, it wouldn't be for awhile. Anyways, Thanks to anybody who can help me!

Is the MacBook Air weaker or stronger than the laptop I am using now
Its stronger in alloy form factor, slim design with only ONE moving part, no HD to crash from mechanical failure of impact etc.
Ive got an Imac and current Air, and owned several Air, the air is the hands down choice for myself and I wouldnt part with it for any amount of money.  Also own a couple macbook Pro, new and older one i rebuilt.

    Macbook Air:
Only one moving part, ultrafast boot time SSD, the full power of laptop with the weight of an Ipad (close).
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5. HOWEVER NOW the new Pro have 802ac wifi
Recommend buying the Air with 8gig Ram.
Pack around a regular laptop around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Only one moving part, the fan. No moving HD heads to crash or moving platters.  Runs a LOT cooler than anything else out there (which = durability).  Heater is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Also the AIR has far fewer parts to fail inside than a standard laptop.  Really only a few replacement parts
The speakers on the Air, contrary to what most people would assume, are much louder than on the macbook Pro.
The Air in general is faster due to the SSD, also if you have a 802ac Router (i.e. Airport Extreme) then the Air over wifi is a LOT faster.
If youre going to be dragging a notebook around campus all the time, the Air makes things a lot more lovely.
The FINAL consideration of course is your application USE, and needs regarding same (see specs and video above)
The new Air, NOW with Mavericks is just 'king of the hill'. Nothing touches it

  • (MacBook Pro 15-inch, Early 2011) Wi-Fi: No hardware installed...

The Wi-Fi hardware irregularly connects to the network. Once the WiFi is disconnected, it cannot be reconnected unless restart or shutdown. I restart or shutdown to "refresh" the scenario but the problem has grown more frequent. I can connect to the network through Ethernet and when Wi-Fi functions. I really need the Wi-Fi to function to make use of this computer  at home and at work. Aside from going to a Genius Bar, what else can be done to troubleshoot a rogue Wi-Fi hardware connection?
    Thanks!

    Reset PRAM.
Reset SMC (but no visual indication of reset).
The Wi-Fi is able to turn on and off (improved).
A day goes by with good connection.
Wi-Fi is now disconnecting realiably within 60 min of restart, no ability to toggle on and off after disconnection.
Hardware remains displayed as installed (improved).
The problem is still present. Could this be a hardware issue? I do not have AppleCare and hope to resolve this independently from Apple. Anymore troubleshooting suggestions are much appreciated.

  • How can I disable web/data access during certain hours?

I have added a feature to my wireless account restricting my daughter's text/data/surfing access during evening hours.  I thought I was pretty clever and assumed she would only have access to her music on her iPhone.  Turns out she can still access all she wants using our home WIFI so my sceme is rendered useless.  Other than confiscating her phone each evening, does anyone know how I can restrict wifi on her phone during certain hours?
Also, does anyone have a nano?  Thinking she could use that for music and to set her alarm, but I don't think the nano has an alarm function.
    Thanks for your input!

No way to restrict it during certain hours. You can restrict it always, or never. Parental supervision is one solution. It's a losing battle to try to outwit children. It's better to require trust, with consequences if trust is breached.

  • I have a Macbook from 2007 or earlier.  I have OSX 10.6.8 and want to upgrade to Mavericks.  Is this possible or is the model of my computer too old?

I have a Macbook from 2007 or earlier.  I currently run OSx 10.6.8.  I wanted to upgrade to Mavericks so that I can get the new aperature.  However I was wondering if my Macbook model was to old to run mavericks.  Is this the case?  Do i need a newer model?  The other option is to get an different aperature.  Does anyone know what Aperature runs with 10.6.8? Aperature 1.5.1 does not run with my current operating system.

    Probably not, but check below:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
