Macbook Upgraded to Yosemite, now Logic 9 stalls

I have an older macbook pro (2009) that was running fine on Mountain Lion with Logic 9. I upgraded to Yosemite, and now Logic 9 stalls when playing songs, gives me "processor overload" errors when playing songs that used to run fine on Mountain Lion, and keeps playing songs even when the stop button is pressed, only after about ten or fifteen seconds will it do the command I enter (stop, pause, etc.)..... My question is, until i can afford a new mac, will I save on processor power by purchasing a stereo digital audio converter instead of using the internal one? Im thinking my mac isn't fast enough or powerful enough to run yosemite AND logic, as is evident by the amount of errors I am experiencing. (BTW, this was done with a fresh install on a clean drive I had security erased, so there shouldn't be any extension conflicts, I loaded up logic first to see if i would keep getting the processor errors and I do.) SO, my choices are to reinstall Mountain Lion, or to buy a digital stereo audio converter. Will the converter transfer all of the processing from the internal CPU to the converter , and if so, will it be enough so that Logic will run smoothly?
Thanks for any help,
Ivan

Well, I got rid of Yosemite, erased my drive, and loaded up mountain lion PLUS installed a SSD per the Apple referred dealer, and the Mac clocks like a champ. HOWEVER, Logic is STILL stalling on the "stop" button, whether I use the space bar or the transport, and no other buttons or commands fail. It seems to stop whenever I load it up with a new process (add a reverb, delay, softsynth, etc.), but if I am normally playing back a track, it works fine. It seems to get worse as the session goes on (first ten seconds, then twenty, then thirty, the last time I had to leave it completely and it went on for five minutes.).  When it's ready, it runs through the commands I've pressed one at a time in rapid succession. First it will scroll to the next plug in preset (per the "next " button I pressed when it first jammed), then it will stop (because I pressed the "stop" button) then it will start again (because I tried pressing the spacebar after that) then it will do as many of the commands as I pressed, about two per second, until the last command I entered is completed, and if I press the spacebar an even number of times, it will simply start playing again. Ever heard of something like this?
p.s. would you recommend a new MOTU (I've always liked them) or have you heard good things about the Native Instruments digital stereo I/O? Or the Apogee? I think I'm going to just buy a whole new system, I'm getting more soundtrack work and as fun as trying to fix problems are and as much as I'm learning, It;s probabaly time to throw away the duct tape and bubble gum and step up. Mac even offers special pricing for college students. I get a whole twenty bucks off a new mac. Oh, thank you, mighty apple.
Thanks for your help. You guys get points or something for answering questions, right? Does that turn into anything tangible, like software or discounts, or is it like a status thing (I'm an online poker player, and we get pretty vicious during tournaments even though there's no money, everyone wants first place).

Try each of these in order until one works:
Open App Store and click on your Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept them, then do so.
Put the old ones into the Trash, temporarily. Open App Store and see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If asked to buy them, see the next option.
Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
You will have to purchase them using your Apple ID.

I was using gimp fine for years with my osx 10 6 8 up until yesterday.  Last night when I downloaded yosemite, gimp has not been working ever since.  I clicked on the icon and it said that x11 wasn't compatible with yosemite and lead me to a link from apple support which said that I need to download xquartz for gimp to work.

No need for alarm. There are several folks a day posting like threads. Most folks know these phishing attempts for what they are and merely delete with prejudice.
To the bottom line... if you wish - and I am sure Apple will take notice - you should FORWARD the email to [email protected] and delete.

  • Just upgraded to Yosemite, now Final Cut Pro doesn't work

Hi I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10 on a 2010 MacBook Pro, and the only major tool I use on there now doesn't work.... Final Cut Pro 10.0.9.
The icon in the tray has a line through it and when you click on it, a panel opens advising that I can't use it because I have the wrong version. It doesn't advise what I should do. How can I get Final Cut Pro working again..... urgently!  I've seen a temporary fix somewhere on a forum which involves going in to applications and launching from somewhere deep in there, but not ideal. Whats the proper fix please and why would Apple allow something like this to happen without covering it? Its an apple product on an apple machine and Im a video producer and I have been let down with this...

Thanks to all your lovely help, advice and support I have now found the purchases section of my App Store account and in the Purchases section is the offending NOT PIRATE! copy of FCPX and next to is a button which says INSTALL. I can only image that is the upgrade route - it doesnt say. I have now hit the install button and hopefully that will be it. Would I be correct in saying that Compressor also needs a similar upgrade or am I going to get abuse for asking that as well?

  • Upgraded to yosemite, now unable to connect b210a wirelessly

Since upgrading my Macbook air to Yosemite OSX 10.10, my airprint function with my HP Photosmart PLus B210a printer does not work. The printer is connected to the network, all diagnostics state functioning appropriately,it will eprint via the associated email address and when I go to the website for my printer all appears to be working appropriately. In following some of the threads I deleted and reinstalled my original printer connections and now when I try to reconnect my B210a printer via airprint I get the following error message:
I have been able to add the printer without the airprint mode and via the IP address, but neither of these printer options print successfully.
I receive this error message when trying to print via the IP address:

When i play a video on face book I'm told i need to upgrade flashplayer, i wasn't even aware i had it downloaded! I have got rid of flash player (i think ) and now I'm told i need to download FP before i can watch videos. I can't play games on FB either and my speakers don't work.
I wish i hadn't upgraded to Yosemite to be honest as i prefer the old layout and it seems to have caused me problems. Everything was working fine before the Upgrade to Yosemite.

  • Can my macbook upgrade to Yosemite?

Just received my used macbook pro I bought for $162 off Ebay and so far it's a great system for that price as it was needed cause my macbook crashed on me during a install of original disc. Anyways to the question I have regarding can my macbook pro upgrade to Yosemite? I already know it's saying I cannot when I try, but it might just be because of my 1GB of RAM so need to upgrade to 2GB of ram. Which leads to the question how exactly do I find the exact RAM required in this system when I don't even know what year model the system is. When I enter the serial number with apple all it say's is this (OBS,MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo). It's got Version 10.6.8. Ebay information say's it's a 2006, but I didn't even realize there was macbook pro's that old. Then I looked it up and it said January 10, 2006 release date. So that makes my macbook pro pretty old. Is it enough for what I will use it for? I like to play around with Imovie and using pages and keynote. I don't do any gaming stuff. I also do a lot of online researching so like to be able to run many windows without it getting sluggish.
Should I maybe try and sell this macbook pro at the amount to get my money back and get a model that can easily upgrade to Yosemite? I really want Yosemite since it comes with Iwork programs that I need and I guess something that can upgrade to at least 4GB as this machine not sure it can.
    Thanks for your time.

Oh and the processor is a DDR2 and not a DDR3 which I imagine shouldn't be an issue for Yosemite upgrade. Could it just be the processor 1GB that needs to be upgraded?

  • Upgraded to Yosemite, Now Safari Won't Load Youtube and Other Sites

I upgraded to Yosemite the day of. Almost immediately I found that Safari no longer would load Youtube. At all. It would just sit and spin and work and eventually say that the page wasn't available. This was also a problem with other websites. For instance, IGN would load, but it was very, very slow. Redirected webpages from Youtube that used URL shorteners would do the same thing as Youtube, it would just sit and crank away and finally give up.
When I try the same thing with Google Chrome, it loads those pages just fine. Youtube and these sites also work on my Macbook and my iPad, so I believe the problem is specific to my iMac.
So... I got really angry a few days ago and did a complete reformat of my computer. I didn't restore my old image from Time Machine, but I did a brand new install and just backed up some precious files. I re-installed Yosemite on my freshly cleaned hard drive and low and behold, Youtube worked, as did all the others!
But after about four days, the same problem is happening again. Youtube won't load, redirects from Facebook using URL shortening is a disaster again. I'm losing my mind. What could be causing this problem!?? Reformatting was the only idea I had, and I thought it was a very thorough solution. Is Safari doing this for anybody else?

  • Upgraded to yosemite now no email images. Anyone know how to fix?

I upgraded to Yosemite 2 days ago and now my emails come in without images. How do I fix it?

    Hey bcvaughn,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with volume after updating to OS X Yosemite. Are you using external speakers with your Mac Mini? If so, check out the relevant section in this resource:

  • Upgraded to Yosemite now I cannot open PSD files on illustrator. Please help

I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my Mac and now when I open Illustrator I cannot open psd files. The error message I get when I open illustrator is "Error Loading Plugins. PhotoshopImport.aip"
Is there a fix for this? I cannot afford to upgrade my CS4 at this time.
    Thanks.
    M

Thanks Larry - the issue is that I need to keep all of the layers (there are a lot of them) and when I save as pdf it flattens the image. Is there no way to be able to open PSD files now that I upgraded to Yosemite?
    Thanks again.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite, now mail doesn't receive messages

Recently upgraded to Yosemite on my late 2011 MBPro, now I can not receive messages through mail. I can send messages though. I also have outlook for Mac which is functioning properly.

Found what seems to be a fix.
    Go: Mail>Preferences>Accounts
Uncheck "automatically detect and maintain account settings"
    Check "allow insecure authentication"
Probably not the most secure fix, but all my selfies are already on the cloud anyway lol.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite, now need to upgrade iPhoto.  Should I leave external hard drive plugged in during update so that software is "compatible"?

I upgraded to Yosemite after having not updated my software since purchasing my iMac about 5 years ago.  (I know, bad...)  I have an external hard drive that has 20,000 pics on it and I need to know if I should leave it plugged in during the update.  I'm afraid if I do, something will happen to my pics.  But at the same time, I'm wondering if I unplug it, will the new iPhoto recognize the "old" software and be able to open up the pics on my external hard drive?  I know this can be a problem because I tried opening my EHD on my neighbors computer and our iPhoto versions were different and it wouldn't open on hers.  Thank you in advance for you help!

When I go to the EHD and try to open it that way, it says the iPhoto library must be updated.  Should I just let it update that as well?  People have told me to copy  my pics to the EHD and store in a safe place, but will I have to get it out and update it everytime I do an update so that the software will be compatible?
Before you let iPhoto update the iPhoto library make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library. Updating a large library can take a long time, and if something should interrupt this update, the library may be left in a inconsistent state. It is much safer to have a backup you can revert to, just in case.
But at the same time, I'm wondering if I unplug it, will the new iPhoto recognize the "old" software and be able to open up the pics on my external hard drive?
Are the "Pics" on your external drive your iPhoto Library? Or simply folders with image files?
If your iPhoto library is on that drive, what is the filesystem of this external drive?
