Macbook very, very hot after sleep and won't start up at first

Macbook 15", Mac OS X 10.7.1.
This morning, I packed my Macbook, like I do every time I go to a client, put it in my suitcase and drove for about 90 minutes. After arrival I got it out of the suitcase and it was terribly hot. It wouldn't start up untill I connected the power chord.
It then booted as if it had been turned off. I suppose the battery was drained.
I don't get this. What proces could be continuing while the lid is closed, and shouldn't OS X prevent this?
Gerard

Iwill try to remember that. What I did to minimize the "damage" is that I set some parameters in the enrgy saving screen in sysprefs differently. When connected to power, I speciefied that the machine did not have to go to sleep. Changed that back to one hour, and the screen to 15 minutes.
These combined, I hope, will prevent this from happening again.
Cheers,
Gerard

My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...
Any clues if 10.7.5 does anything on this? If not I'm afraid i see myself going back to SL for good...

I got my 2nd iphone 5s brand you, it s getting very hot after 10 min of usage

It means take it back to where you bought it from. If you don't want to do that you'll have to be more specific like how long you've had the phone and how you are using the phone when it gets hot. That kind of information. The more we know about the phone the easier it is to diagnose and offer suggestions.

Possible hardware issue by Ip4s. I would call support on this and this would be possibly replaced. Verify this with them.

My Macbook pro, (late 2010) sometimes will sleep and won't wake up. then the sleep light flashes. What's the problem

Hi I've been following this thread (along with a different one on the same topic). I've been having the same problem with my ibook. I can add that I have no problem with startup. It's just that the screen "goes to sleep" unexpectedly and may operate normally for a few minutes or a few hours at most. Opening and closing the lid or restarting seems to cause it to awaken but then usually for just a few seconds or minutes. If it is connected to another video display that display continues functioning fine even though the computer screen is blank. In addition the desktop is there and visible faintly or if totally blank can be backlit through the apple logo and can be read. I've had my logic board replaced twice under the extended warranty and assumed it was that but now I'm thinking of the reed switch. Apple refuses to consider any further work under warranty as the last repair was in Jan, 06 and they claim only a 90 parts warranty and the machine is from 03. Any thoughts before I cut the wires? I have reset the pmu, run cocktail and disk utility. Other than the sleep issue the machine works fine. thanks Ronda or anyone else who has any ideas... Dave

  • Help: Macbook freezes after sleep and gray screen freeze on startup

I've got a new MacBook (45 days old, minimal usage) and I'm starting to have some problems.
When my computer goes to sleep after inactivity I have a hard time waking it. The screen turns on right away but the mouse/cursor remains frozen. The computer does not respond to any keyboard commands. I usually have to reboot the machine when this happens. I noticed this problem a few weeks ago and it has since become more and more frequent.
I've also noticed that with some regularity my computer freezes on the gray screen during start up and never reaches the mac icon. This has become more and more frequent since I first noticed the initial problem and happens one in every 3 or 4 startups.
I haven't installed any new software except for the regular software upgrades. Nothing extraordinary.
Is it possible that these problems are related? Am I doing something wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The grey screen on startup may be the known issue, especially if you start to get vertical lines on the screen. If you can reboot using PRAM reset, go to the displays control panel, set the resolution to something besides your current resolution, then revert to your original setting. That should fix that part.
As far as the freezing after sleep goes, I had a similar issue where the macbook would not actually go to sleep (white light stayed solid), and opening the lid would result in a dimmed screen that I had to force-shut down the computer to get out of. After sending it in for RSD, this seems to have been resolved.

    Try this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by track pad or keyboard.

Since updating, Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by trackpad or keyboard. I'm sure I use Mission Control more than most, so it's really irritating for me.

No, the versions of iPhoto on the iPad and on OS X are totally different.
What Apple ID are you using for the Mac App Store? Who else has access to that Apple ID, or what possible other Apple IDs could be in use? It's possible you'll need to purchase iPhoto to get the upgrade, though I'd think Software Update should offer you the correct version.

My MacBook get's hot really quick and then discharge's quickly without opening any program, please help.
I have checked the cooling fan, and it's working, and I took it to an IT technician and he said my hardware is allright, so is it a problem from the OS it self??
    OS X(10.8.5)

Restart with the Option key held down and the Mac OS X install disk inserted, provide the firmware password, click on the DVD, press the button with the straight arrow, access the firmware settings, disable the password, and use FireWire Target Disk mode. If you can't do that or it doesn't work, contact Apple.
