Macbook Video Integration

I bought my Macbook new about a year ago. It has the video integrated into the processor, but up until lately hasn't had a problem showing video. I can watch video just fine on my laptop, but lately it uses what seems like an absurd amount of processor usage. Something like 30-40% of my processor is used even just watching a youtube video. I wonder if there is a way to fix this, or if this is just normal and i never noticed it before.

it's not memory usage. it's processor usage. i had ifreemem earlier and it's pretty cool, but the trial ran out and i don't want to spend the money. plus, i'm looking for a native fix or at least a reason why it's doing it.

    It says
To install this component, just drag the File "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" into Library/QuickTime. The Library directory can be found either at your home directory (to install just for the actual user) or at the top-level of your startup volume (this needs an administrator account). DO NOT PUT IN: /System/Library/QuickTime.
Sounds normal to me. The "~/Library/QuickTime" folder is the standard location for user and application installed QT components which are used globally by all account users. On the other hand, the "~/System/Library/QuickTime" folder is where QT components installed by the operating system installer are placed for global use. These instructions appear to be correct.
It is possible that the QuickTime directory does not yet exists. In that case you can create it yourself. Pay attention to capital letters if you use a case sensitive file system (i.e. UFS).
    I do not have Library/Quicktime.
Highly unlikely if you are running Mac OS X V10.5.8 as indicated in your posting. As you can see here, when the startup drive is opened at the root level, you should find a minimum of four folders—the "Applications" folder, the "Library" folder, the "System" folder, and the "Users" folder. Without these folders, your computer would be little more than an electrified paperweight.
    I do not have Library/Quicktime.
Either you are looking in the wrong place or someone has been playing around on your system (e.g., in the Console app) and made the folder invisible.

  • MeetingPlace Video Integration with 3515MCU problem

    Hi,
I am trying to setup MeetingPlace Video Integration with a Cisco 3515 MCU and cannot get it to work. The eventlog for MeetingPlace Gateway is giving me errors about the initialization problems. A couple of such errors are:
MPAgent (0x0150) Warning: Conference technology provider initialization failed (0x80040201). err=1
MPVidSvc MPVideo 11:05:52-> CMcuController::processCmdRegAuthorize() Register as administrator failed. UNregistering....
MPVidSvc MPVideo 11:06:02-> CMcuController::uninitialize() Uninitializing CMcuController.......
Both MeetingPlace and MCU conferencing are working as they should, but I can't get the Video Integration working. From what I can tell by these messages, MeetingPlace cannot talk to the MCU to administer conferences. I have setup and configured a user on the MCU for MeetingPlace to use.
Has anyone got MeetingPlace working with a 3515 MCU?
    Thanks,
    Richard.

    Richard,
I'm having the same problem but with MCU 3540. This problem begin occur after I change the service number 70. My scenario is 2 sites. Each site have 1 cluster?s CCM, 1 MCU?s 3540 and the main site I have 1 MP system with 1 MP IP gateway and web conference in the same server. What the version of MP and MCU you are using ? I'm using MP V 5.3.333.0 and MCU V 4.2.10.

  • What good is video integration if Lightroom can't share with ANY other apps ???

Perhaps I am missing the VERY obvios, however it seems to me as if LR4's video integration is missing just about anything there is to miss.
Really crazy to think that those apps are coming from the same house ;-)
    1) There is NO possibility to export to non-compressed media an include the Metadata CAREFULLY set in Lightroom. DPX does NOT get the LR4 Metadata written to them.
    2) Exporting an H264 to H264 directly without intermediating will downgrade the quality so severly that one does NOT want to look at that video anymore.
    3) Adobe has a wonderful way of sharing Metadata between its professional apps, so if one applies metadate inside of i..e Bride, Premiere Pro will be able to read them and vice versa.
ALL metadata applied inside of LR4 - STAY in lightroom 4. No other adobe app will be able to see those metadata. This is beyond crazy to me. And I have a HARD time understanding
why adobe implemented all those features of video if they are absoluty NO USE to anyone. Unless of course one would want to watch all his videos in Lightroom UNCUT.
But since the adobe lightroom crew has not yet figured out the obvious and included Lightroom in Apple's FronRow - I dont see that happen, at least for Mac users which are VERY acustomed
to a certain luxury that ANY OS should feature!
Perhaps adobe just wanted to pad them selves on the shoulders with Video capabilities which ARE GREAT when it comes to applying metadata, setting in and outpoints etc etc etc.
But if NO EXPORT (besides DPX which is NOT metadata capble) not severly degrading is possible why on earth did they implement it...
If this wasnt so darn tragic I would be laughing but I would LOVE to actually be able to use Lightroom to handle my rushes (footage) and be able to apply metadata in LR4 and then just import into Premiere.
Perhaps this just the first beta's shortcomings. I really hope so.
If I am missing the very obvious and doing something wrong, please enlighten my poor soul ;-)

So adobe sets up ONE forum to officially discuss LR4....
Then I enter the discussion and you tell me to put it up somewhere else...
    Nice
Just as confusing as having to enter develop mode to access the white balance eye dropper....
This whole thing is getting too confusing for me...
NOevertheless I added my gripes over there....  And now I am only waiting to be told that I should post it somewhere else....
If adobes software wasn't the currently best, I sure would jump ship and that immediately !

  • Macbook Video card

While I usually only play game on my PC, I would like to play a few games on my macbook. However, I have a generic video card (in other words, my video card is not Radeon or Nvidia). My question is will my generic video play games such as Call of Duty 2?
I am also wondering if I could successfully change my macbook video card.

    Welcome to macbook forum.
The Intel GMA graphic chipset in macbook is not superb for 3D gaming, and some user said they can play COD with minimum setting and some said they have hard time get it right.
And since the chipset is soldered to macbook logic board, you cannot change the graphic chipsets.
    Good Luck.

  • TS4088 MacBook video display so faint, it is almost not visible

My MacBook video display is so faint, it is almost not visible.  I have turned it off and on, maximized the light settings, and still, it remains black.  Ideas?

Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.  Have you tried zapping the pram?  If so, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • MacBook Video card compared to iBook

The video card in the new MacBooks how do they compare to the video card that was in the last generation ibooks? I know they both share memory with the system but I am just wondering if the MacBooks have new better integrated video cards.

Actually, from what I remember, the last gen. iBooks had 32 MB of Video without it being shared.
Now from what I understand, I think the MacBooks have better Video cards, since its up to 64 MBs, but if have enough memory and most likely under windows, it can gegt up to 224MBs! And you never know when Apple may choose to unleash the beast of the GMA950.
The GMA950 isn't that bad of a graphic card, it can hold almost all games atm with 2 GBs of RAM, but im afraid it might not hold up on the new games (prolly next years games). Of course, its nothing to be proud of though.

  • New Macbook video import problem.

    Hi all,
I have just gone and bought myself a new Macbook Pro and I am very pleased with it. From a video standpoint I plan to use it to import and edit HD video from my Canon HV20. The new Macbook only has a Firewire 800 port and so the cable that I would normally use to connect computer and camcorder will not work as it is 'mini' Firewire to Firewire 400. I am assuming that there is/will be a 'mini' to FW800 cable available, but in the interim I am using a Firewire hub that is connected to the Macbook by a 400-800 cable. And herein lies my problem ! Although iMovie8 detects my HV20, it will not display or play or import any footage from the tape ! It just remains on the blue import screen and although the camcorder is merrily 'playing', no footage is actually making it across to the computer. I think the issue is the Firewire hub part of the connection but I thought it best to garner an opinion from users of this forum. Help !!
    Many thanks in advance, kroguk
    PS
I will also post this on the Macbook forum, so apologies if you see this post twice

Well, I can't find my Belkin FW800-to-4-pin (9-pin-to-4-pin) cable right now ..I'm doing some "tidying up" ..which is always hopeless for finding things afterwards!.. but I DID buy the other day - in the German Mac specialists, erm, can't remember the name - a Sonnet Fast-something (..which I've just put down, and now can't find..) teeny 9-pin-to-6-pin adapter (..so small that I can't find it!..) and I've just tested that with a Sony HC1 HDV camcorder.
    Using the Sonnet adaptor..
..which is mentioned on their website at top-left here: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/adapters/index.html ..on a normal 6-pin-to-4-pin FireWire cable.. I just connected my camcorder and successfully imported HDV from the Sony.
I tested it twice with iMovie HD 6, in the most adverse conditions: 1; connecting to the 9-pin FW800 socket on a G4 17" laptop (..which is generally too slow to import HDV in real-time..) and 2; looped ("daisy-chained") through the 9-pin FW800 sockets (..one socket from the drive to my Mac, the other socket from the drive to the camcorder..) of an external iOmega FireWire drive connected to my Quad G5 Mac, also with iMovie HD 6. Both imports worked perfectly.
I'm also trying it as I write this - I just found the adapter again! - to import into iMovie '08 on the G5, daisy-chained through the external disc (..the G4 is too old or underpowered to run iMovie '08..) and that works as well ..though I did have to "kick" the program into starting a new Event; at first the camera transport ran, but no video imported, so I just Stopped and re-imported.
I bought this adaptor "on spec", as no previous device or adapter had worked properly for me (..converting between 4-pin on a camcorder and 9-pin on a Mac..) and this is the first to have worked, for me. But I have great faith in Sonnet, as they make the extra S-ATA driver card and other bits and bobs which I put in my floorstander G5, and that all "just works".
Ah; the shop where I bought it is ..hold on a moment.. the "m store" in Munich. (Karsten may know them: when Gravis moved from Lindwurmstrasse to Im Tal, the m store opened up right next door to where Gravis had been before) and they're at Lindwurmstrasse 5a, their phone number - they speak English, too - is 0049 89 24 22 35 24 and their website is ..aaaarggh; they don't seem to have one.
Anyway; the Sonnet SimplyFast FireWire 400-to-800 Adapter works perfectly - for me - on the end of a normal 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire 400 cable, and importing works flawlessly every way I've tried it ..even daisy-chained through an external drive.
    I can heartily recommend it.
But - as always - "your mileage may vary" ..meaning that it might not work so smoothly for you.

  • IBook G4 video out to MacBook video out

Anyone know of a port adaptor so I don't have to toss all my iBook vidya cables and buy all new stuff? The G4 video out port is smaller than the port on my current MacBook and there's nothing in the Apple Store. Customer service said I'd need a small adaptor from someone like Belkin but looking around has been really frustrating. Especially since the dude at Apple said he couldn't tell me how many pins the difference is.
EDIT: The iBook is a mini VGA 13 pin port and the MacBook is a mini DVI 32 pin port.

I tried the store and they told me to try Belkin. The short version is that I want to watch web content on my TV. With my G4, the output was thru a mini-VGA port. The port on my MacBook is a larger mini-DVI port so none of my G4 adaptors and cables work any more.
I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a MacBook to TV adaptor (they usually ship with a new machine but mine is second-hand) and replacing the other Monster cables I bought so I was looking for a cheap way to link my old mini-VGA stuff to the mini-DVI port on my MacBook. It would be a male/female type adaptor.

  • MacBook video out not working

    Hi there
I bought the mini-dvi to s-video/composite output to connect my MacBook up to a TV while away from home (to watch TV and movies) but it doesn't work. First I suspected the old TV, but works OK with the Wii connected. Then I thought it was the cable, but I tried a new cable and the sound works fine, so that's not it. Then I suspected the adapter, but when I got home I connected it to my wife's MacBook and it worked fine.
So, looks like I have dodgy graphics card hardware?
The MacBook detects that the adapter is connected, so some of the pins are working OK. I just can't get a signal from my MacBook to the TV and the auto detect does not work.
Anyone got any ideas? The computer is no longer under warranty and I don't have time to take it to the dealer (it takes them three weeks to turn around a fault!) so I'm guessing that I'll have to open up the device myself and check for some bad connections?
    Any advice is appreciated!
    Regards... Jonny.

Video out under 10.5.2 works fine for me and for a colleague of mine with a more recent MacBook Pro. I'd wager it's a problem with your Leopard install, not a universal one.
Also, FYI, Apple doesn't read these forums; they're just for user-to-user help. If you want to leave MacBook Pro feedback for Apple, do so here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html
But again, I do not believe yours is a universal issue. We'll be happy to help troubleshoot though. What do you mean the image is "unstable"? Could you take a digital photograph of the external monitor's screen and upload it somewhere?

  • MacBook Video Out problems.

    Hey all.
Bit of an issue regarding my Macbook. It's a 2ghz Duo With ram upgraded to 4gb by myself. For some reason the video out on my Macbook has decided to stop working. Is it possible that it's hardware related? I have tried the following.
1: Bypassing my Onkyo TSR 609 amp straight to TV
2: Lowering resolutions (although 1080i and p was fine)
3: Bootcamping into windows to see if its an OSX issue. (my friends Samsung laptop works just fine through all the various combinations)
    4: Punching it.
Im at a loss now, was working fine, got my new amp and was working fine through that for a week (havent changed any settings on it, and as I said same issues straight to TV which is a 42" Sharp XD1E) and the picture just comes out as multicoloured digital noise but you can just about make out whats on screen. Its a fairly weak connection on the MiniDVI port on laptop itself, It's connected via MiniDVI to DVI/HDMI dongle. I have also swapped out cables. It's not the amp as my PS3 blasts out 1080p with NO issues, please help!

Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you.
Command + R gives you access to restore, repair, or reformat the drive using OS X Recovery
No idea why that was suggested.
You may have a third party video player installed that's causing an incompatibility issue.
    Check these folders:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder. The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
To access the Home folder in OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and chooseGo > Library.

  • Macbook video out - double adapter to HDMI tv input?

To connect my macbook to my HDTV, do I need to connect a mini DVI to DVI cable to the macbook, and then use a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect to the HDMI input on my HDTV? I know I need a separate audio input to the TV using the headphone/optical audio out, but a two step video adapter seems kind of hokey.

Might take a day or two for access. That last 50 or so points are the pitts. Ronda will be around at some point to share her bag of congetti I'm sure...

  • Glitches on external monitor on new MacBook (video)

I am seeing graphical glitches appearing on the 2nd screen hooked to my aluminum MacBook (late 2008) through Apple's mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Dancing pixels, of a sort.
They are not there initially, but appear after an hour or two of use.
Unplugging and re-plugging the screen into the MacBook clears the issue...for a while...
The monitor in question is an Apple Cinema Display with an ADC connector, going through and Apple DVI to ADC converter before getting to the mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. It's a lot of adapters, but it should not be a problem. And the glitches were never seen when this external screen was (until recently) used with my MacBook Pro rev 1.
See a poor-quality video of the glitches here:
    http://gallery.me.com/blakespot#100108
Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks.

Interesting. I found that putting the MacBook to sleep and then waking it causes the problem to go away (for a while). I use the MacBook 5 days a week for a full work-day and it happens at least once every day.
I am using the MacBook with an Apple Cinema Display 20-inch (plastic)...

...and the refresh rate selector in Sys Prefs is disabled. I assume the MacBook know what the display is capable of and is feeding at that rate (probably 60Hz).
