Macbook VS '07 2.4 iMac Gaming

Hey, I was wondering how the 9400M would compare to the 2600 HD Pro in my iMac when it would come to gaming. I would usually be on the Orange Box or Civ IV. And lets say that both systems had maxed out RAM at 4 GB and are using XP in bootcamp. Thanks!

I didn't presume to.

You must have missed this paragraph in my post:
Because MacBooks are far from optimal for doing Photoshop or other graphics work, relatively few forum users have MacBooks.
Finding one user who is familiar with both MacBooks you mention to the degree necessary to compare them won't be easy.
I stand by that.

What adapter do I need to connect my 2009 Macbook Pro to my 2007 iMac? I get really confused with all of the different cables out there an I want to make sure I get the correct one.
    Macbook Pro Model is: Late 2009, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
iMac Model: Late 2007, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

If that configuration supports Target Display mode, use it. If not, use a product such as ScreenRecycler.

  • Wake on Lan works on my MacBook Pro, not on my iMac...

Hello everyone, with all these threads about the problem, I wanted to start a new one to make it clear, with all information you may need in order to help me out.
I've got a MacBook Pro '15 and an iMac 21.5', both are running (clean install) OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, both are up to date with the latest updates, both have the same apps, both have the same settings in "system preferences", and of course the same settings in "sharing" options.
My iMac is connected to my 5GHz network from my Time Capsule while my MacBook Pro use the 2.4GHz network.
Before going to bed, I leave both my Macs turned on, after 10min they go to sleep automatically. In the morning I can wake up my MacBook Pro from my iPhone or iPad with a screen sharing app.
The iMac doesn't respond at all. It stays in sleep mode. I can leave my MacBook Pro asleep for a week, it always responds. The iMac responds after a few hours but after 6 or 8 hours it seems to be completely asleep and doesn't respond to anything. If you think it's about the iPhone/iPad's app, when I try to wake the iMac from my MacBook Pro with "Back to my Mac" I have the same results.
I tried to connect my iMac to the 2.4GHz network: same problem.
OF COURSE "WAKE ON LAN" is activated in my system preferences.
I made a reset of the PRAM, the cache and the SMC on my iMac: same problem.
I type sudo periodic daily weekly monthly in the terminal and sudo dscacheutil -flushcache: same problem.
I tried everything I may have found in the forums or on this Support from people having the same issue: same problem.
I even tried to set the iMac with the same sleep mode as my MacBook Pro: same problem.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

I understand that, but if your router is not an Apple AirPort Base Station then it introduces an element of uncertainty. Apple has implemented many changes related to wireless networking recently.
You are complicating matters by changing networkoversleep:
networkoversleep - this setting affects how OS X networking presents shared network services during system sleep. This setting is not used by all platforms; changing its value is unsupported.
Solving problems like this requires that you simplify your network environment and eliminate its unknowns. Using third party routers and making unsupported changes runs counter to simplification.
The iMac stays connected to the Time Capsule about 6 hours during sleep. Then it dissapears...
The iMac wakes periodically (every few hours) to inform your router of its network presence for Wake on LAN demands. Try changing your router's DHCP lease period to something longer than a few hours. For a home environment, a few days is more appropriate. This may not solve the problem, but it is better than making unsupported changes to your system.

  • How Can i connect using Thunderbolt a Macbook Pro with the New iMac

I bought the new Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt and instead of buying a new external monitor, i am thinking that the new iMac with Thunderbolt is a great idea.
Is there a cable to connect the Macbook Pro and use as iMac as external monitor, using Thunderbolt.
    thanks

I understood your question perfectly and the answer is absolutely yes. When you change the iMac into target display mode you underlying operating system continues to run all existing applications. For example in my case if I finished editing some video and am about to enter a lengthy render process or something which may draw lots of resources like hand real, I set it to start on the iMac and then switch it to target display mode to use it as a monitor with my MacBook air in the meantime.
Only one small caveat in your case though.  Since the target display mode is a feature of OSX (eg the OS interprets the special key stroke and changes the iMac into target display mode) you should make sure Lion server supports the target display mode feature. I don't see a reason why it wouldn't but that's the only thing currently crossing my mind. Keep in mind the compatibilities between ports as noted in my blog. If any of your machines have mini display port and you intend to connect the new iMac in target display mode you will run into issues. In that special scenario, I recommend buying a refurb iMac from 2010 which urtilize the displayport allowing you to use it as a display for all your macs -- those with thunderbolt as well as those with displayport. If you have thunderbolts then definitely go with the thunderbolt iMac.

  • What connection options do I have in transfer of data from my macbook pro 13" to my iMac

What connection options do I have in transfer of data from my MacBook Pro 13" to my iMac?

If available, use a Firewire cable and put the origin in Target Disk Mode.  That's how I rescued all my stuff, all 150GB of it, from my now dead Early '08 MBP to my current one.
With the new crop, I believe you can use the Thunderbolt ports as well.

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

DVD and CD sharing will not let you play or share DVD movies and audio CD's.  Does any one know of a way to get music from a CD on a MacBook Pro wirelessly to an iMac?

I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.

    Hey All..
Just taken delivery of my new iMac 24". Absolutely amazing! However, I'm desperate to import my address book from my MacBook Pro to the new iMac. I have set my MBP into harddrive mode by pressing T on start up. If someone could tell me how to do it that'd be great.
I am absolutely delighted with my new iMac despite being worries after reading all the disappointed customers on this site.
Anyways, hope you guys can help as usual.

  • Is it easy to set up a Macbook Pro alongside an existing iMac?

How do you set up a Macbook Pro alongside an existing iMac please?

    Hi,
We'd like to do everything, basically - to have the 2 machines completely in synch so that we can access all documents, photos, email, iTunes, between the two. We have Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 on the desktop so under its second user licence, I want to install that on the Pro. We also have Pages on the iMac but would this be shareable with the Pro or is it one App per machine?
    Thank you!

Why is the transportation C02e 4x higher for Macbook pro 15" compared to iMac 27".

Both are great machines but have rather different purposes...while the graphics are good on the MBP, the iMac graphics would be a major step up.  Especially if you want to do heavy duty photo or video work, and heavy game use.  If the MBP is getting hot and running the fans hard, that would point you to the iMac with its higher end graphics capability.
The photo and video work would be much easier with the larger screen and higier end graphics and faster cpu.
