Macbook vs Macbook Pro compatability

Issue: Dumped a glass of red wine on my rather new MacBook Pro
Question: What can I salvage out of the Macbook Pro that will work with a new Macbook?
Specifically:
1 Will the 4gb of ram from the MacBook Pro work in a Macbook?
2 Will the MacBook Pro Harddrive work in the Macbook?
Not sure the Macbook Pro is going to come back from the wine spill so I think I will be forced to purchase a new machine. Macbook Pro is more power than I need so I am thinking about replacing it with the Macbook.. Any suggestions??
Thank You

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
The RAM should be compatible, however, the MB will only recognize and use 3GB of the 4GB. (There are other threads in the RAM section that talk about this. Many users install 4GB for matched RAM which improves performance a little.)
The HD is compatible. Both the MB and MB Pro use 2.5" SATA drives
Hope this info helps...

  • Webcam? Windows XP to MacBook Pro compatibility?

I use the video chat feature on my MacBook Pro with Mac friends, but now family members who use Windows XP want to buy a webcam to chat with me. Is there a compatibility issue with webcams between Windows XP and MacBook Pro? What type of webcam and/or software should I recommend they purchase? Thanks.

They can get a Logitech webcam. To video chat with them, I suggest you both use Skype. They can even buy a webcam through the Skype store.

  • Apple Macbook Pro compatibility with HP EVA P6500 SAN

I am submitting a SAN solution for a customer who is using Macbook Pro as a Montage unit, does this machine support HBA card for Fiber connectivity?
My SAN soltuion is HP EVA P6500.
    Please I need answer ASAP.

Thanks for your swift reply to the Apple/HP compatibility question.  Trust it will work when I buy MacBook Air. The HP app available at iTunes store helped us make our older Apple IPad print compatible even though the HP 6500 Wireless is not equipped with AirPrint.
Regarding slowness of HP 6500 to reach "Ready" stage for printing. This is a printer for home use, so it not on a network. It always eventually prints.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Adobe CS 2 and MacBook Pro Compatibility?

I currently have Adobe Creative Suite 2 that I run on an old PowerBook G4. I'm looking to purchase a MacBook Pro - will I be able to run Adobe CS2 on it?

It's not looking good for anything CS2 on Mountian Lion 10.8. which comes with every new Mac.

You know if you need more operating system stability so your not always having to pay Adobe and others for third party software upgrades because of Apple's rapid OS X changes, you could switch to Windows 7.
It's not that bad and Microsoft supports their OS versions for about a decade on average where as Apple changes OS X annually.
Just need to make System Restore Images periodically, backup to restore, just like one has to do on a Mac and use the machine wisely when going online and using files/emails from others.
With a high quality monitor on the PC, Windows 7 isn't all that much different than OS X.

  • MacBook Pro compatibility with old Cinema display

This subject has come up in other posts, but I didn't find my problem. We've just purchased a new 15in MacBook Pro 240/4/320, OS 10.6.4. I want to connect it to a circa 1999, 22" Apple Cinema Display, M5662. This has two connectors, a USB and DVI. I have the DVI adapter to Mini Display port. Nothing shows up at all on the Cinema display with this connected. The display works just fine with an older MacBookPro 1,1 (Intel Core Duo) running on OS X 10.5.8; this hook-up has a direct DVI plug. Apple support thinks its an incapability problem and doesn't really offer any else...they don't support them anymore. Any suggestions?

    Hi Larry!
I know it seems like a silly question, but I believe these older displays had a fancy protocol in the DVI cable that allowed them to power-on automatically when you turned the computer on. This may not be supported through the adaptor. Have you tried touching the small power button area on the front right corner of the display bezel?

  • Macbook Pro Compatibility With M-Audio FW410 audio interface

Folks, my old trustee PowerPC G5 recently blew up and hence I'm now switching all of my Logic / Audio setup to my Intel, Macbook Pro laptop.
    2 questions for you all...
    1. Why does my Macbook Pro not seem to recognise my FW410 interface (just flashes blue light at me) despite attempting to update the interface's driver (tried a few different options, none of which work)
    2. Presuming I can get it to work with my Macbook Pro, will the FW410 function, like it did previously using my G5. without the need for a power adapter, or will I need to use the 12v adapter? It's impossible to say right now as the Macbook Pro won't even acknowledge its existence!
Much appreciated if there's any help you can throw my way.

I find the creative suite to be painfully slow on my MBP (17" C2D 2.33Ghz, 2GB RAM). Of course it does depend how heavy you are using it. But basically I cannot use photoshop or AE under mac OSX, it drives me nuts. FOr light projects I just switch to parallels, they usually work smoother running under parallels with only 1GB RAM allocated to windows. ANd for serious stuff I switch to bootcamp so they get the full 2GB... cant wait for CS3!

  • Macbook pro compatibility with old mac software!??

Hello! I just got my Macbook pro, and i wanted to know if there was any way to get my old games from my oldschool PowerMac from like 1994 to play on it......it says its not compatible...and that makes me sad..
    Thanks
    Dan

If your old games are OS 9 programs, then they will not run on the Intel Macs. There is an emulator called SheepShaver (www.macupdate.com) that will run OS 9. Then there's the Mini vMac that emulates an old Mac Plus.
If it's a PPC application and doesn't work then it simply isn't compatible with Rosetta.

  • Macbook Pro compatibility with Creative Suite 2?

I was wondering if any of you Macbook Pro users are running Adobe's software from CS2, specifically Photoshop and Illustrator? What are your experiences with it?
I'm thinking of getting the 15" 2.16 Ghz Macbook Pro. I RECENTLY bought Adobe Suite CS2 for my iMac G5. Not sure what I should do. I think it would be very expensive to have to buy the new Creative Suite that will guarantee to work on the Intel Macs. So I was wondering if anyone is running the software alright on the current Macbook Pros

  • 13" Macbook Pro compatibility with Microsoft Office

I just purchased a 13" Macbook Pro.  Can I load Microsoft Office 2007 professional on this device?

Not unless you run Windows. Office 2007 is a Windows suite. For the Mac you need to purchase Office 2011 for Mac OS X - www.mactopia.com.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • ICloud MacBook Pro compatibility

I can not open Pages/Numbers documents stored on iCloud or save documents to my iCloud account on my 17" MacBook Pro running Mavericks and the latest version of Numbers/Pages.  I have no problem on my iMac and iOS devices.  Any suggestions?  I can get to iCloud through the internet icloud.com.  I have done all the usual things like reboot, zap the pRam, delete iCloud account in System Preferences and then sign in again

I found this solution for syncing iCal on another thread:
Pass this to all.  icloud  and ical works with snow lepoard.
    Go to iCal preferences.
    Set up new account.
    Account Type:  CalDAV

  • Final Cut Studio 5 and the Original MacBook Pro compatable?

Please help a frustrated old pro. I bought a MacBook Pro when they first came out, had it configured with a Quartz Extreme video card and upgraded Final Cut Production Suite to Final Cut Studio. I use Digital Juice products too. I just cannot get anything to work right - it shuts down, hangs up, is super super unbelieveably slow.....I took it in the local Apple store and they told me everything was fine but it can't be. This is my 3rd Mac - I've always loved them but this one doesn't work at all. My LaCie drives are so slow with it as well. What would you suggest I do? Thank you for your response!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Quartz Extreme Video Card

You Macbook Pro is Intel processor based. The first version of FCP 5, part of Final Cut Studio 1 was Power PC based up until version 5.1.1 when they went universal. If you're trying to install FCP5 version 5.0.4 or earlier it won't work at all on your Intel based Macbook Pro. You need to upgrade to FCP 5.1 or later, which means sending in your FCS discs to Apple and they'll send you back the universal versions which will work on both the Intel and Power PC based platforms. Hope this makes sense.
If you're using FCP 5.1.1 or later on your Macbook Pro but it's not working right then you need to provide more info about your system: Anything that will help to diagnose your problem. All things being equal, your Macbook Pro should certainly be able to run FCP 5.1.1 or later.

  • New MacBook Pro compatibility with 2Wire routers

Just saw another member posted a topic regarding about the new MBP's kernel panic error with specific routers.
I have a 2Wire 1000SW series and wanting to know if the newer generations (2.33 or 2.4GHz models) will be compatible while connecting to it via WIFI.
Currently I am still on a PB, and often time there's signal problem with the 1000SW, like for example it will not able to connect to internet after system startup or wake up even though the indicator shows full bar. All my other PC notebooks connected to the same router do not have this problem.
If anyone currently have the newer generations (2.33 or 2.4) and with a 2Wire router (especially the 1000 series). Do you see any kernel panic problem?
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CC compatibility macbook pro 10.6.8

    Hello
I have a macbook pro mid 2010 (originally 10.6.8 - now mavericks) which means that I only have 256 of VRAM on my NVIDIA graphic card and 288 on the built in Intel graphic card. I can see on the requirements page (Systemkrav | Photoshop) that Photoshop CC requires at least 512 MB VRAM.
Does this mean that it is useless for me to have Photoshop CC with my graphic card? Or will it work fine with normal image retouching and does this bad compatibility only have a say with 3D images? When I first opened photoshop CC it promted me with something like - the OpenGL has been disabled.. and something about 3D images.
(OR does the 2 graphic cards together make up my available VRAM? that is 256+288 = 544 VRAM? Forgive me if this is a silly question.. I don't know much about grpahic cards!)
Hope someone with more computer skills than me can answer my question

You can use Photoshop CC on that system, but you won't have access to the 3D tools, or all the advanced GPU features.
No, VRAM is not additive across multiple cards.

  • Can anyone tell me the compatability between macbook pro running lion and the kindle touch?

I originally wanted an Ipad, but when I already have a macbook pro, and an android phone, planning to upgrade to an iphone when I qualifiy for one, I could not see paying the money for an ipad when between my computer and phone I have all the capabilities covered. However, being a college student who uses pdf files of textbooks a lot, sometimes pulling out my laptop every time I want to look some little thing up in a textbook gets old. And carrying all my engineering textbooks everywhere is going to kill my back one of these days. So I want a cost friendy e-reader or tablet. Ive heard good things about kindles. But what is the compatibility like for a mac? will it be a pain in the but like my android?

Get an iPad. Once you have that, you may not really need to spend the money on an iPhone, since the iPad will do everything the iPhone does (and be easier to see doing it) except make phone calls, and even an Android phone can do that.
