Macbook was fixed, paid for backup, files missing

On friday my computer shut off without warning while i was on the internet. I took it into the apple store and the genius guy thought that it might be the magsafe. So I had the magsafe checked out because no matter what was reset the computer would not start. The magsafe wasnt the problem, they thought it was the logic board. So I brought in my western digital external drive and paid apple to back my computer up before they sent it away to be tested.
on wednesday i was called and told my computer is ready. So I rushed to the store and grabbed my compter and the external and rushed them home before I had to be to work.
that night i went to look for a file on my computer and it was gone. in fact a large portion of my files were gone. so i went to the external and did a retrieval. it loaded the folders but not the files.
to get to the files i have to go through finder, and follow that chain until i can get to my files. My problem is that I still have files missing. It doesn't look like they backed it up since my last backup....what can i do, i'm missing some important artwork that i did for clients and contests. My father and I feel like if i paid for the service than why wasn't it done properly.
any suggestions because the phone line is no help. should i take it back to the store?

I too have this exact same problem. I recently replaced my hard drive and before doing so, did an entire system back up. When i went to restore the files onto the new hard drive there doesn't seem to be any files to back up from my time machine. Nothing!!! Pls can someone help?????

  • Burning vids to CD for backup (file disappears from CD)

    Hi,
Ok I understand that you cannot burn TV show episodes to a DVD or CD from iTunes. But some people have pointed out that it is possible to back up videos by burning the individual m4v files onto a disc using a CD writing software.
As I am short of disc space I did just that. I deleted the files from my computer after burning them but now for some reason Windows XP will not show the files I burned onto my discs. Even though the CDs are clearly written the files just won't show. I tried all the options like "show hidden files/system files" etc.
Does anybody know what's going on here? I really would like to get those episodes I paid for back.
    Thanks

You did make sure to do it as a data disc and not as
audio? That is how you have to make a backup of your
    vids.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did it as a data disc.
I did find a partial solution. Searching the internet for people with the same problem - Windows not showing files on CDs that is - I downloaded a software called IsoBuster which does show the file and after some form of decryption lets me play it as well.
Why the Windows Explorer won't show the files though I still don't know.

  • Backup Files Missing on Time Machine

After reformatting the hard drive on one of my macbooks the backup files seem to have vanished from my Time Machine. After reinstalling Lion on the macbook I decided not to restore from a backup as I believed I could restore selected files. The backup files were present prior to the formatting of the Macintosh Hard Drive as are the backup files for my two other macbooks and imac.
The reformatted imac is now connected to the Time Machine but the backup files seemed to have disappeared prior to time machine being turned back on for this machine.
To me this makes absolutely no sense and I hope someone can assist, as what's happened just doesn't seem logical.
I appologise in advance if I haven't provided enough information.

I too have this exact same problem. I recently replaced my hard drive and before doing so, did an entire system back up. When i went to restore the files onto the new hard drive there doesn't seem to be any files to back up from my time machine. Nothing!!! Pls can someone help?????

  • HT1751 Where to look for backup files on computer?

need my back up information but cannot seem to find it on my computer. Where am i suppose to look for it?

    Hi Ashwin.Shalom,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946
Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on the computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!
    - Judy

  • What is the password for backup files

Just updated my iPhone & lost my contacts & calendar. It is requesting my backup file password; I don't recall setting one. Please help! Is there a way to obtain this?

If you didn't set the password, and it isn't possible to' override or bypass it (there wouldn't be much use in having one if it could), then have you got an Exchange email account on the iPhone ? If so then it's possible that the account administrator has set the password for you (e.g. to protect potentially sensitive work content) - in which case you could try contacting them.

  • An error was received while reading backup file- Cancelling Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).

    Hi,
We have been getting the below error while restoring a database onto SQL Server 2008. We are using lite speed and performing a full restore. When we restart the server, the restore is completed cleanly but every 3 or 4 days once, the restore is failing.
We have tried everything from installing a patch that was supposed to fix it but it is not.
    Error Message:
BackupIoRequest::ReportIoError: read failure on backup device 'VDI_7D17E958-2468-45A8-B7F0-EB73D0BF0F3A_3'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).
The backup is getting validated successfully but failing while trying to read it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Sql server 2014 set password for backup file

We are using sql server 2014, all our databases will be automatically backed up as per schedule. Now need to protect our
backed up databases with password. We have tried below queries:
BACKUP DATABASE teknomectest TO DISK='C:\test.BAK' WITH MEDIAPASSWORD='sqlpas'
    Executing it shows below error
One or more of the options (mediapassword) are not supported for this statement.
Analyzing which we came to know this feature is blocked in sql server 2012 itself. Is there any other way to protect bak file.

MayurPaghal, Bala said he is using SQL server 2014
Beginning with SQL Server 2012, the PASSWORD and MEDIAPASSWORD options
are discontinued for creating backups. It is still possible to restore backups created with passwords.

  • I was denied my item that was already paid for

I purchased an iPad mini2 online and arrange a pick up at the northgate mall BB mobile since it was such a good deal today. It was purchased to raise money for a fundraiser that we are having. I go to pick up my purchase tonight and the sales rep tells me that the system they use to pick up items is down. She said she would make some calls and I had to run to another BB anyway to pick up another item I had purchased. I got to the Northgate BB and they had me fill out a form, since it was a company wide shut down, and they verified my ID and my CC and gave me my GoPro for auction and head back to the mobile BB. I would have picked up both at the BB but they were sold out.
When I got to the BB mobile she tells me that she cannot give me my iPad. She gave me the option to buy another one and cancel the order tomorrow or come back tomorrow. Sure that would be no problem if I didn't need it tomorrow. I asked her to call again and let her manager know that the BB right down the street gave me my GoPro by filling out form. As she got off the phone she tells me that is not an option!! What? Why? The store not even 2 blocks away will do it but this one won't? She tells me it's against BB coporate policy to do that. If this is the case then why did the other store do it?
Now it's past closing time. I have no other options. I don't have money to buy another one let alone the time. I call the 1800# and their answer after 40 minutes of waiting is "oh I'm sorry."
This is not acceptable. When someone purchased an item and follows all the instructions given to them they have the right to have what they purchased. I'm just so disappointed at BB right now... You guys have royally screwed me.

    Hello spoondek, and good morning!
When you visit out stores, you should not experience this inconsistency between locations. Considering your reason for the purchase and the urgency behind it, I can imagine your frustration and disappointment. I am very sorry for you had to experience this the day before your fundraiser.
While system and network issues are typically few and far between, they happen. This is why we as a company have created backup plans for these sorts of rare occurrences. When this affects store pickup, the store should follow the “downtime process” to allow you to leave with your product. The process that was followed at the Northgate location (Store 470) to receive your products sounds correct and should have been carried out by the associate at the Northgate Mall Best Buy Mobile (Store 2831) as well.
I will be contacting the leadership at Store 2831 to confirm they are aware of the necessary details around this process. Were you able to pick up your iPad in time for the fundraiser?
    We appreciate your business!

  • HT6032 Purchase instruments again in GarageBand 2.0 when it was previously paid for?

It says here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6032) that if we purchased a previous version of GarageBand, we can restore the missing instrument. However, I tried tapping on the Already Purchased and logged in my credentials but still unable to get the full version of GarageBand on the iOS. I called the Apple Support and they told me I need to purchase AGAIN!?!? THis is contradicting what is mentioned in the article?
Come on Apple! This is not the way to make money. Why do I have to RE-pay for an app that I have already purchase before with full functionalities and then with one update, you took thme away and ask me to pay again. It is just not right.

Apple Support doesn't support iTunes Store issues and often doesn't really know what they're talking about. The iTunes Store has no phone support. Presuming you downloaded the new version of GarageBand using the same iTunes Store ID and password you previously purchased the instruments under, go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.
If you used a different Apple ID, that's probably why it's not working. You'll need to either delete GarageBand and try to re-download it using the ID you purchased the instruments under, or repurchase the instruments.
    Regards.

  • Unable to send or receive emails! When I first bought my Macbook I never paid for the mac mail. I have tried to find Mobile Me to no avail. What software program do I need to send emails??

Hi all! I bought my macbook pro around two years ago. I currently have the Snow Leopard operating system. I have just clicked on Lion to upgrade however I am aware that the Mac Mail required you to pay for it? I click on the mail link and it does not work i.e. the send button is greyed out. Please advise?

You don't need to pay anything extra for Apple Mail. You may need to pay extra money to Yahoo and/or Hotmail if you want to connect to them with a true e-mail client like Apple Mail. I would provide links for more information, but it appears to be not quite supported. I think it is a service for mobile applications that people on computers can connect to if they hack around a bit. Your ability to connect with Apple Mail depends on how much you want to hack around.
The easiest solution would be to wait a few weeks until Apple rolls out iCloud. Then you will be able to sign up for that instead of the defunct MobileMe.

  • Is there any way to get an ipad game for free when it was already paid for for ipod?

I was just wondering if a person can upgrade their ipod games for free to play on the ipad.

    No.
If the app is universal ( work on ipad, iphone and ipod) then you can sync it to both devices.  This is noted by the "+"
Otherwise you would have to buy both versions.

  • I upgraded to Lightroom 5 about 2yrs ago,bit now my system is asking me to renew my membership to activate the develop module in Lightroom5. The upgrade was already paid for though.

I upgraded to lightroom5 about 2yrs ago, but now my system prompts me to renew my membership to activate my develop module as the develop module has been de-activated

If it asks for an activation to activate the develop, it must be a CC version installed. If you use a CC version you have to pay you for your selected plan like monthly or annually.
If you should have the stand-alone version because you don't have/want a CC plan, then you probably have installed the wrong version - the CC instead of the stand-alone.
Download the stand-alone version from here: Win, Mac
