  • Pavilion G6 2249WM powers on but does not boot - black screen

I have a G6 2249wm that had a message that the fan wasn't working. I had the fan replaced and after it was replaced it would not boot. I could hear the fan running and the caps lock light blinked once about every 5 seconds and the amber wifi light was on. After researching and taking steps outlined in the HP Computer does not start (Windows 8), I found that the code meant that the CPU was bad. I had that replaced and the notebook is still in the same condition. Is there anything else that I can do to get this computer to work?

After troubleshooting a little more I find that when the laptop is started the hard drive does not turn on. I used a USB adapter to plug the hdd into my desktop and found that it does work. I then plugged a different hdd that I know works into the laptop and found the same issue. Does this mean that the motherboard is bad?

    Hello @FLC123,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that your notebook computer is producing a blinking light from the caps lock, and that the screen is blank. I would be happy to help you!

  • GS70 - Does not boot - black screen with solid white dash

Sorry for the long post - I've been beating my head against this problem all day, filed a report ticket and really need help from anyone who has ideas.
Yesterday evening after finally relenting and allowing the patch Tuesday updates to install on my GS70 Stealth I tried to power on my computer and it remained stuck at the MSI logo. I waited 3 hours with no success before powering it off and attempting to access the bios by hitting the delete button. The screen turned black except for one non-blinking white dash near the center of the screen. This screen also remains indefinitely and requires a hardware power off to work. I've tried all of the function key presses and recovery shortcuts to no avail.
Eventually I tried to boot into linux via a live USB. I still could not access the bios but, to my surprise, so long as this USB is in my system, Windows happily boots. After this I tried to revert to a system restore point before the updates but that did not resolve the problem. I also tried to update the BIOS but there is no way to install BIOS updates that I know of that doesn't require accessing the old BIOS first (which I cannot do because the black screen with a white dash is still all that shows up). I tried forcing the UEFI bios to load through windows recovery settings with no luck either.
I've sent in an RMA/Support request and hopefully MSI will repair or replace my device but I sent it in for an RMA literally less than two months ago and to be having to do it again so soon is starting to turn me off of the product. For me to insure and ship my device to MSI costs a little over $100 each time which is rapidly turning this $1600 product into an $1800 one and turning me from an MSI brand loyalist to a 'one-star-review everywhere' evangelist. Is it possible that something MSI did during the last RMA screwed up my motherboard (they replaced the disfunctional steel series keyboard with a new marginally more functional steel series keyboard)? Does MSI ever cover the shipping costs for an RMA if the RMA is a result of damage that they caused to the device? Is there anything I should do to try to avoid burning more money trying to get a luxury-priced product I've already paid for to function?

i had similar problem myself on my first GS70 it has some sort of bios problem that it random hangs itself :/ causes OS not to boot and bios refuses to load but i managed to get my recovery USB to boot but not bios yet so i sent laptop off for repair they replaced the motherboard so i got it back then i had an faulty gpu :/ so i took it back and got money back so i bought new one some where else since than i havent had problem so this sort of problem sounds like bios firmware isnt booting propertly :/ so have you tried removing msata and HDD from laptop and then power laptop on? to see if bios gets forced on if so power it off put msata back on and so then power laptop back on and bios shall work again

  • PSE7 Organizer does not start properly, screen flashes, PC stops

Hello. I can't find this problem mentioned on the forum.
I've used PSE4 and 5 in the past without problems. Have just completed a clean install of PSE7 (no PS or PSE previously installed on this system, a ThinkPad T60 with 2MB). The Editor runs fine.
I ran the Organizer once, set some preferences, pointed it at a small number of images to import, then the whole screen started flashing and soon my system stopped in its tracks - no blue screen.
Now, when I try and start the Organizer, it spends maybe half a minute "Generating thumbnails" without success (all the thumbnails have egg timers on them). It uses 50% CPU. It still says "Generating thumbnails" after half a minute or so when the screen starts flashing and the system crashes again.
    Any ideas?

    Fixed. Thank you John.
I renamed the preferences file but that made no difference.
So I repaired the catalog (errors were found) and optimized it. When I started the Organizer, thumbnails were displayed (that's progress) but then the screen-flashing started again (whole screen, as usual, not just the Organizer window). Before I could close the Organizer, my system stopped with a blank, black screen, and no response to any input. I had to hold the power button to power down. On reboot, it blue-screened. On next reboot it started normally.
So I created a new catalog and the Organizer started fine. Then I set it off getting photos from a folder of folders of jpegs (with the odd txt and other file type). After a few seconds, the screen-flashing started again, and I quickly closed the Organizer.
When I restarted it, the catalog was empty, so I had it get just one folder of photos at a time. On the very last one, the problem started again. I found an AVI file that I'd overlooked, removed it, and the problem went away. The AVI was one I recorded on a digital compact.
    The Help for Organizer says:
"The Organizer catalogs video AVI files properly, but audio AVI files are shown as broken video thumbnail icons. However, they will play correctly."
Hmmm...doesn't seem to be the case for me. Even if AVIs were unsupported or known to cause problems, I would never expect to see the symptoms I did.
Hopefully my experience will help others. Incidentally, I run XP Pro SP3, fully updated.

  • Ideacenter B540 AIO does not boot (black screen)

    I have Ideacenter AIO B540. Windown 8.1  64bit
after booting the computer, I see that the computer turns on but nothing happens, black screen. the lenovo logo does not appear- nothing. shutting it down (hard) and rebooting again - nothing happens. the only solution i found is to "let it cool" (it was not hot from the first place..) for few hours and then rebooting it and it usually helps but clearly something goes wrong.
Please advise what could be the issue?

I had an HP desktop that used to do that to me.  It would randomly just shut off then give me a black screen whenever I tried to turn it back on.  Usually if I let it sit overnight it would work again in the morning, at least for awhile until it did it again.  At first it was once every week or two then became more frequent.  It ended up being something wrong with the motherboard.  A port went bad or something, I bought a replacement board for about $80 and it worked fine again.  Granted it also cost me around $60 to have it diagnosed at a local repair shop, but I got another couple years out of it.

Can I try something more ? Thanks.

Please have a look at your PSU. A label on the side should give you the max amps for the 12V rail.
Try with another PSU with sufficient power. Check all your power connections once again.
Try with only one mem stick and in "barebone"config, i.e. mb outside the case on a non conductive surface, i.e. wooden table.

  • Adobe TV - Video Does Not Play (Black Screen!) OSX 10.6.8

I cannot get the Adobe TV videos to play. Only a black screen.
I use Mac OSX 10.6.8 and have the recent Flash player installed (11.5.502.146). I tried to troubleshoot on Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
I tried to apply all the settings that some used to get it to work through here but no go.

I need to learn this software or I have to get a refund.
    THANKS!

Checking "Allow third-party Flash Content to store data on your computer" didn't help?
    - No, it didn't.
Do you find that website flash settings, like volume levels in youtube, are always reset for you?
    - No, the volume is set to full, I just checked with couple of videos.
You might want to reset your Flash Player settings entirely to see if that helps.
    - Do you mean "Delete All" data in the Flash Player setting in System Preferences. If so, I did this as well and no go.
    What else can it be?

  • IMac (24", late 2006) does not start

    Hi
I am no native english speaker so please excuse my english. ;-)
I have a problem with my good old iMac (24", Late 2006, Core2Duo). When I start it the screen stays black, and the standby LED is permanently on. The gray screen doesn't appear, but the computer seems to boot normaly (usual hard disk sounds).
When I start the iMac with long power button pressing, it starts, the standby LED flickers and I hear one long beep. Accouding to the Apple support information one long beep means "firmware restoration in progress". But we didn't start a firmware restoration and the last shutdown was a normal one, no hard power off or something similar.
I already did a PRAM/NVRAM reset and a SMC reset. But nothing changed...
Is there anybody who could please help me?
    Kind regards
    Dirk

    Dirk,
Run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode 2-3 times at a miminum. If errors appear then you have confirmed a hardware fault and the machine needs to be repaired. However AHT isn't the most reliable test in finding errors, in other words if no errors appear then that doesn't mean the the hardware is OK, it just means no faults were found. My recommendation would be to take the machien to your local Apple Store or AASP to be thoroughly tested.
BTW, you could also restart in Safe Mode , this will clear some caches however I don't think this will help based on your desciption.

  • Since I made updates of software in mavericks macbook pro 1260 does not start anymore

    Hi
On my macbook pro A1260 2008, under Mavericks, I downloaded 3 upgrades: Itunes, Ibooks and a security upgrade of 100 Mo. After installation I have been asked to restart the computer in order for the updates to take effect, so did I.... But the macbook pro never started again:  no chime, only dvd player noise, HDD, and Fans.
Could you help me to get out of that mess?
    Thank you
    C.B

There are a few different startup tricks you can use including safe mode and single user mode. I can never remember what the commands are so try to search for "mac startup commands" to be sure you're doing them correctly. They usually involve holding down the shift key, the R key, the option key or a combination.
Do you have a buddy who can help you build a bootable USB drive? The process is simple and is described on the Apple Knowledge Base article library. There are also some free apps that will do it for you.
Unlikely, but when you exhaust all other attempts, you may be looking at a total erasure of the system so I hope you have a backup.

  • IMac not starting up and no chime

    Hello,
My neighbor's computer is experiencing some problems: it does not start (the screen stays black, no startup chime, but the fans run, as does the hard disk. Also, neither the mouse or the keyboard seem to be powered (no light)).
I have tried usual commands (reset PRAM and reset the SMC). Also tried with no device connected. (well, if something so trivial than all these tips did the trick, I wouldn't had to ask here ).
So, without keyboard, I couldn't even try special modes (safe, target disk, start from CD, etc), should the Mac be able to start in some mode. I have then decided to open the iMac (well, the warranty is way out, so nothing is lost). I have never seen a so-hard-to-open Mac, by the way (something was likely blocked).
I'm thinking of 4 possible causes for the problem:
    -the hard disk could be damaged. It was malfunctioning some days ago. I assume it could come to a point where the logical board of the disk is failing;
    -the RAM is an obvious possible cause;
    -the CPU is also obvious;
-another component on the main board/logic board.
    -I have forgotten a 5th point?
Well, I tried with unplugging the hard disk, and it had no effect, so it's not the HDD. I'm puzzled for the remaining ones (not knowing the iMac enough is a cause).
First, about the RAM, it seems the RAM slot is empty, so the actual RAM is somehow built-in (I haven't seen something seeming like usual RAM bars), so, if I can't remove the RAM, how can I test whether it's damaged or not?
Then, the CPU. There are 2 of them. So I thought I may take one out (and then the other one) and see whether the Mac starts. Well, I can't figure out how to remove the CPU cooling piece (there are just 4 "buttons" that can be pressed but nothing happen). I prefer asking here first, not removing the entire main board without advices.
Lastly, if it's the main board, I know I won't be able to do much. I have read there are LEDs to possibly diagnose power issues, but I don't see them (no LED is showing light, it seems). I'd like to test my other assumptions before thinking the main board is the cause.
Else, is there something I could try I have forgotten?
P.S: sorry for my (possibly) bad english, and the troubles of explanation; it's not as easy when english isn't the native language. I just wanted to mention that I have already repaired computers, so don't hesitate to tell me complicated answers.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    David.Austin.Allen wrote:
If the RAM slots are empty, someone has removed the RAM. There is no RAM on the logicboard.
This page does say some RAM is built-in: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2266
It explains why the RAM slot (which there is just one) is empty as there is not further RAM installed.
No startup chime means no usable RAM was encountered during Power On Self Test.
It may also mean some other problems, if I recall correctly (for instance, a dead CPU will prevent the chime, because the chime indicates all has passed).
I have the feeling that we aren't talking about the same model, because, according to:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341
the LED should blink when there's no RAM. In my case, the LED stays on.
Exactly what model of iMac is this?
It's an iMac third generation 20'' isight (put the terms in the order you want ). EMC is 2082.
Thank you for this answer. Does not solve my problem but is useful in progressing.

Not running Leopard (Panther), but I have a similar problem on my 24" iMac. Computer was working fine last night (I shut it down) and when I went to boot up this morning the computer is stuck on a black screen.
The boot up sound is initiated but nothing after that. The power light stays at full brightness, if I touch the power button the light blinks and then after a while it goes out. A full reset does nothing. I've tried reseting my PRAM, which works because I hear the start up sound twice, but no change to the black screen.
I don't have access to another Mac, would inserting the Startup Disc I received with the computer do anything?
