MacBook White not switching on

Hi, I'm using MacBook white 2009 model, my MacBook is not switching on there is no sign of grey screen or start up sound or fan and hard disk sound or system on indication (White) light.my laptop battery is fulll and moreover I connected to power cable.
I tried all possible cases described in apple site like removing all external devices, removing battery , removing rams and hard disk, resetting prom , resetting smc.
Is there any thing I should try before going to apple show room.

Yes. Replace the motherboard or the computer.

It could be that the battery is dead.

  • Scroll lag/high scroll latency (not slow or jerky) MacBook White Early 2009 (MacBook 5,2)

I'm having a strange problem that's not easy to explain. It will probably take one or two reads!
I have two Macs, one has the problem, the other does not:
    2009 MacBook White 2GHz Core 2 Duo - 8GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - NVIDIA 9400M 256MB Dedicated - OS X Lion (HAS PROBLEM)
    2009 Mac Mini 2GHz Core 2 Duo - 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - Intel GMA 950 64MB Shared - OS X Lion (DOES NOT HAVE PROBLEM)
The problem is with scrolling with a mouse wheel or trackpad in various apps, iTunes in Album List display mode is the example I'll use.
I have the same iTunes library with around 4,500 tracks on BOTH Macs.
When I scroll the list initially everything is fine but with repeated consecutive scrolling actions either in the same direction or alternating (with any mouse wheel, magic mouse, built in trackpad or magic trackpad) the response slowly gets further and further behind the physical action to the point where I will stop the physical scrolling action and iTunes continues to scroll mimicing my previous actions (including any slowing, speeding up and direction changes) for 5 seconds or more until it catches up. It's NOT jerky, it just starts to lag behind.
The strange thing is that if I open another app (like Terminal), move it completely out of the way so that the entire iTunes window is visible but the other window still has focus and then scroll the iTunes window without it in focus there is no delay at all and the responses map the physical scroll actions 1 to 1.
I did have MagicPrefs installed but have uninstalled it. I've tried shutting all apps asside from iTunes and it makes no difference. I've tried an SMC reset, no joy. There are no repeating messages in console.
Any ideas? It's bugging me a lot.
    Thanks!
    Marc Roberts

Compare what's going on in Activity monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity.monitor.app) when you are getting the delay and when you scroll withoud delay with a different input window selected.
Do the same with your mac that doesn't have the problem, and see if there's any obvious differences. Post back here any processes that are consuming a lot of CPU time, and the page in/outs/swaps.

  • My MacBook Pro is not switching on and my charging light is very dim green

Hey ! My MacBook Pro is not switching on. I was trying to charge my iPhone through the lead attached to the MacBook. I suppose the iPhone charging lead might not be a original. Hence it kept saying that this accessory will not work. So I took it out. As soon as I did that my mac switched off and it would not switch on again. The charger light went really dim green. It usable is more brighter. I've waited for a while. It's not switching on. I was trying to do smc reset but I suppose if I'm doing it right it's not working. I was reading online and I didn't find much help. I live in Pakistan so I can't go to apple store. Please tell me a solution !!?

  • My mid 2009, 17inch Macbook Pro will not switch on unless it is physically hot. I have to heat it up with a hairdryer to switch it on.

Hey guys, my macbook doesn't switch on unless it is physically hot. I use a hairdryer to do this (I know it's bad but i have no other option, i'm not looking for a lecture on why it's bad to do this.)
Once it is hot it still takes a long time to boot up because it will seemingly short-out (instantly shut down with blank screen) whilst booting up quite a lot, and at random times.
Resetting the pram and smc seems to help sometimes, but it's hard to judge as the success of the bootup seems totally random.
    Once Ive got past the login screen and it finally boots up it will run fine, other than a few strange bugs that I have experienced;
    - If I highlight a video file and do a quick preview (pressing spacebar), the laptop shorts out and shuts down
    - If I try to record video using the webcam, its shorts out and shuts down (Using webcam on skype is fine)
    - An email i received once had an automatic video playing, which resulted in the laptop doing the same as above
I'm assuming it's a graphics related issue but I'm no expert, video games run fine on it though.
If anyone has any idea as to what the problem/solution could be, please let me know!
Haven't found a single post online that relates to this problem..

    Yup its very weird haha
I do hourly backups with time machine.
Havent tried reinstalling OS. Not sure how possible it is because of the booting issue, it's hard to restart without it shorting out.
Not taken it to anyone just yet.

  • HT2494 How do I connect my TV to my macbook air. The socket I used on my white macbook is not present?

Have just bought a Macbook Air and the socket I used to use to connect my Macbook (White) to the TV when watching video is missing. What can I do?

The new MacBook Air has a Thunderbolt port. Apple introduced this form factor with the Late 2008 model (then called MiniDisplay Port. I suspect your MacBook had a Mini-DVI port. So you'll need to purchase an adapter for this computer as well as any additional cabling.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/
Don't pay any mind to the fact that it says MiniDisplay Port and not Thunderbolt, it's backwards compatible.

  • Wolfenstein not running on Macbook white early 2008

    hello all.
i've been playing RTCW since i had a G4 Cube with Mac OS 9.
bought a mini in november 2007, installed it, and been playing it with no problems since then.
in december 2008 ago i bought a Macbook white early 2008, and could never get RTCW to run.
now i stumbled on this tip over the internet: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6984854
    but it doesn't work either.
anyone have had the same problem and could get it solved?
    thanks in advance

question not answered but tried again and solution worked.

  • White 2008 MacBook will not boot completely (hangs up)

For Christmas 2008 I bought a New 2008 Apple MacBook (White) for my 13 year old Grandson. He gave it back to me to "fix" .
He said the following problem ----will not boot/Hangs UP during boot---- *first appeared immediately after he downloaded and installed an "APPLE/MACBOOK" update of some kind last week.*
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR TO ANYONE OUT THERE? IF SO I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR SUGGESTIONS.
    More info:
It will not boot completely. when powered on it-- chimes once with the normal Mac sounds (Not a POST Beep error)---- and a white screen---- with apple logo in center appears--- after several seconds a small spinning "activity/busy" circle appears below the logo. This circle appears and spins for about 3 to 4 minutes with no other activity happening. Then the screen goes blank and power goes off.
Oh yes I am not certain as to the Exact OS designation that is installed (sorry)
I am new to Mac but have checked:
The power (A/C, and supply are on, Mag power cord attached and battery charge light on battery is blinking green with 4 steady green lEDs on--- (So I assume I'm OK with NO power or battery issues)
I then tried to boot into "safe" mode. (shift key when power on) (No change)
Then I tried Cmd, Option, P, R keys as suggested in manual during power on to reset nv(p)Ram (No change)
Grandson is searching for manuals, OS Apple Hardware troubleshooting disk etc. While I wait to receive those items from him --------
Does anyone have any Ideas /suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Joe

HI Joe and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Since you can't boot in Safe Mode that's not a good sign. You really need those install disc(s) to repair the drive if necessary.
When you get the install disc...
Insert the installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open look at the bottom of the window. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% free disk space.
You can try something that doesn't require the install disk and that's Reset the SMC
If you can get the MacBook to boot up to the Desktop, click the Apple Menu then click About This Mac. The Mac OS X version number will be displayed there. 10.x.x

  • Macbook pro i5 intermittent problems switching on? Would not switch on today took several attempts anyone else got the same problem?

I went to switch on my macbook pro this morning, would not switch on could hear fan in background battery 96% but would not turn on, disconnected power supply twice the plugged back in and worked. Has anyone else has this problem. Only had the computer since April 11. Anyone got any similar problems?

Basic warranty is one year. You can extend the warranty an additional two years when you purchase AppleCare. Don't you read your User Guide? Didn't they explain that when you bought the MBP?

  • Retrieving/resetting my account password for MacBook Air OS X 10.9.4 when FileVault is NOT switched on?

    Hey all,
I've encountered a major problem since purchasing my MacBook Air OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. As I was previously using a Pro with an account password that used to work just fine, I decided to simply set the Air with the same credentials. However, the password I have no recollection of changing is not accepted by my Air. Without it I cannot install any new software and I need several programs urgently. Trouble is, my FileVault is not switched on nor can it be switched on. I cannot reset the password either, as doing so requires me to type in my current one.
    What do I do?
    Kind regards,
    Elena

If you're not using FileVault 2, then FileVault 2 is not involved.   Either use your Apple ID to reset your password, or Method 1 here should get your password reset to one you know.

    You're most welcome, FlutePixzy!
FlutePixzy wrote: ... Apple Care netted nothing... Except they noted I have an older laptop...
If your older laptop meets Apple's published minimum OS X Mavericks: System Requirements, Apple technicians can make it work on your older laptop (if you decide that any service cost is worth the expense.)  If so, call Apple Care again and politely ask them how to proceed.   Ask to speak with a supervisor or manager if you don't get satisfaction.  Limit the discussion to your Mac's problem(s).
Your assessment of Apple's shortcomings are unlikely to help anything.
Technicians may need to inspect your Mac before they can give you an accurate service cost estimate.  There may be a separate charge for the inspection of your older Mac, so ask about that, too, if cost is an issue for you.
