  • MacBook wifi signal lost.

    Hello ,
I have a problem with my wifi signal. I have an Macbook 1,1 , and the Airport Card is Airport Extreme.
The problem is that i keep losing my wifi signal. It happens every where. I can keep being connected to wifi about an hour then the signal is lost. If i try to reconnect it says that the connection timeout. Sometimes it happens after 5 minutes sometimes in an hour. i have found only one place where i can stay connected for ever.
Also i have found that if i use the Assist me option on reconnecting then i get the wrong password error, although the password is correct. At the moment i am at home my own Macbook can't connect to wifi, but my friend ibook is working fine. So if anyone has an idea how to fix this problem please let me know. I have been in contact with my local apple care company but they don't have the will or knowledge to help me.

... but they dont show up when it scans even tho they do show up on the macbook.
That would appear to point to a problem with the built-in AirPort Extreme card in the iMac. Either it is not configured properly or there is something physically wrong with it.
    Let's double-check its configuration:
System Preferences > Network > AirPort
    o Location: Automatic
o In the left column, verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "+" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that AirPort is "On." Click "Turn AirPort On" button if not.
o Ask to join new networks: (enabled)
o Show AirPort status in menu bar: (enabled)
Systems Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced
    AirPort tab
o Remember any network this computer has joined: (enabled)
o Disconnect from wireless networks when logging out: (enabled)
o Require Administrator password to control AirPort: (disabled)
    TCP/IP tab
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    o Configure IPv6: Automatically
    DNS tab
o DNS Servers: <if required, add your desired DNS server IP address(es) here>
o Search Domains: <if required, add your desired DNS Search Domain(s) here>
    WINS tab
o Enter desired WINS info or leave the defaults
    AppleTalk tab
    o Make AppleTalk Active: (disabled)
    802.11X tab
o Enter desired 802.11X info or leave the defaults
    Proxies tab
o Enter the desired Proxies info or leave the defaults

  • Possible Macbook WIFI fix.  Let me know if it works.

Try this. Disconnect all cables from your Macbook. Flip it upside down, remove the battery.
Open the Macbook back up and press and hold the power button for at least ten full seconds.
Replace the battery, start up, try wireless networking.
This has **** worked for me for like the past 20 minutes. I haven't been so lucky since I got this computer!
    Next, going to try linux.

You're correct, the wifi stopped working this morning. It didn't do it for no reason, though... Here's what happened.
My cable modem wasn't getting a downstream. My wireless was still fine, but I had to reset the cable-to-wireless gateway router. I turned my airport off, reset it, and then reconnected. It did the familiar timeout thing a few times in a row, but finally I got the thing to connect. My internet was sluggish and eventually stopped.
I did the battery fix and now it's back up and running again. Weird.

  • Macbook WiFi Very Sluggish

I've had a history of WiFi problems in the past with my Macbook Pro, but as of late (the past few days), things have been more dire than usual. I'm at college (so the WiFi speeds here are incredible), but also, I need to be able to access said internet for homework and such. My Macbook Pro has been incredibly slow with WiFi connectivity the past few days, across Safari, to the App Store, to iTunes, and even SpeedTest gave me a 2.5Mbps down. It connects to networks just fine, but the download and upload speeds are very subpar. Safari often loads half a page, and then the blue progress bar freezes, and crawls. This is unusual for my Macbook. I tried restoring to a previous version of Mac, and even ran an antivirus software (it found nothing), and yet nothing has improved. Has anyone had any of the same problems? If so, have you found a possible fix? I'm starting to be afraid it's a hardware problem.
    Thank you!

There are some anecdotal suggested "cures"
    1) set the MTU (packet) size a little smaller. 1430 (down from 1500) seems to work for some users.
    System preferences > Network > WiFi/Airport > Advanced > Ethernet > MTU: 1430
    2) set it up again from scratch, including a new "Location".
    System preferences > Network > WiFi/Airport > ( Assist Me ) > Assistant ...

  • Why is MacBook WiFi acting up? Slowing down every 5-6 seconds

Configuration: MacBook, WLAN router Zyxel 660HW. Works ok with PowerBook. Three different 10.4.11 MacBooks have same symptoms.
Have been working with macs since the 80's - the workstations are properly configurated, have HD space enough, network is properly defined.
I'm 110% certain that the Airport management in MacBook has some defects. If I remove the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist and restart the MacBook the WS will run some hours without the slowness.
Dear Apple technicians - when do you have the fix available. This, I fear, is a problem for all MacBook users that are using WiFi/WLAN connections.
Urgent response needed - customers are waiting for answers also.

Doubtful Apple will see this, just us other Users here.
Be sure to give this a try...

  • Share macbook WIFI on wired LAN

Is it possible to share internet connection from my Macbook to my desktop (wired of course)
I only got internet connectons via wifi on my macbook.
Heres what i want to do:
[*]Connect via wifi on macbook to my internet
[*]share the wifi connection from my macbook to the macbook LAN port
[*]run a cable (not sure if I need a cross over or straight from macbook to desktop LAN port
[*]use internet on desktop freely as if it was connected to a normal LAN cable

    Hi
Any kind of ethernet cable will do. On the Mac, go to System Preferences - Sharing, turn on Internet Sharing, and select "Share connection from Airport" to computers using "Ethernet" (tick the Ethernet entry).
    That should be all.

  • After Mavericks upgrade Macbook wifi stops searching for networks

    Ok here's the problem.
Upgraded from Mtn Lion to Mavericks.
I have 2 user accounts.  One for personal and one for work.
Boot up - all is fine.   Switch from one user to the other the first time - all is fine.
But once I switch back to either user the problem appears.
What happens is that the computer stops searching for wifi networks.  If I click on the wifi indicator the only one shown will be the one that I'm connected to.  I am unable to select another network.  (there are several others in range but not shown)  The search indicator does not show up. If I click on Join another network and then on "select network" the dropdown box is empty and does not populate.
If I log out and log back in then the wifi will search and show the networks again (on that user account)  If I swtich back to the other I would also need to log out and back in.   Logging in and out only resets the search function of the active user.
Bottom line is once I switch from either user to the other AND THEN BACK TO THE ORIGINAL both users will no longer have wifi search function until you log out and back in on either user.
I've reset SMC and PRAM.  I've reinstalled Mavericks
I've contacted Apple for support and we've set up a new partition on the drive - installed Mavericks into that so it was like a brand new computer.  I then created 2 users on that account and STILL have the same issue when I switch between accounts (users)
The Apple tech seems to think that we've eliminated software problems so it must be interference from nearby networks causing this.  It seems odd that this happened imediatley after the switch to mavericks.   I am going to take my computer for a ride today and bring my MiFi along and see what happens.
Anyone having this issue?   Any thoughts?

  • Macbook wifi dropouts ??

    Hi,
I recently got a new 2011 Macbook Pro 13 (Thunderbolt) and have had problems with the WIFI dropping off after every 20 minutes
or so. I have updated the OS and all updates. I have noticed at home it drops out when using WIFI. There I am using an Orange Livebox
(new one - 802), but at work it does not dropout... I am wondering what the problem could be.
    Any ideas?

These type of discussions, of the speculative type, are not allowed under the Terms of Use.
Having said that, don't expect one any time soon so if you want to buy a MacBook buy one now. While it does look like there are a lot of issues there really aren't. These discussions concentrate and amplify the the quantity and seriousness of many issues.
If you want to speculate I would suggest you do it elsewhere like on Mac rumours sites of which there are many.

  • MacBook WIFI issue. States full signal but won't connect!

    Hey all,
I'm at the end of my tether here! I brought my MacBook back in Feb and loved it, was so pleased with it. A couple of months later the screen broke, so it was taken back to Comet who sent it away and repaired it, turns out the screen was faulty and there was also a "defective logic board". Got it back after 3 weeks and all was fine, until now!
When i purchased the MacBook i needed to buy a new router so i got an N router which has always worked perfectly, over the last week or 2 i found the connection kept dropping out, this happened before and it was VirginMedias problem which they fixed. I checked with them and there's no fault, checked the router and there's no fault and no settings changed, i then decided to try a neighbours WIFI, again, the MacBook connected and stated full signal but when i opened Safari it says i wasn't connected. The problem got worse and worse and i'm now at the point where i cannot connect to any network through WIFI at all, the only way i can get internet is if i use my Vodafone WIFI Dongle...which isn't the cheapest or easiest way of connecting to the net! I also have an iPhone 4 and a iPod Touch and they both still connect to the WIFI without any problems.
If anyone can help i would appreciate it so much! If i take the MacBook back to Comet they'll only want to send it away again and i'm not happy to do that, 1) Because i'll be without it for at least 3 weeks and i need it for work and 2) Since i got it back from the last repair i've discovered it wasn't put back together very well and the screws have been falling out of the base ever since.

Since you cannot connect, even at at another location, I'd agree that it seems to be a hardware problem, rather than ISP or software settings.
If purchased new or refurb direct from Apple, your MacBook came with a 1-year warranty, so you should be well within the initial warranty period.
If you're not happy with the service you're getting from Comet, escalate! Ask for the manager, and keep going up the chain until you get some satisfaction.
Finally, if Comet can't meet your needs, try another Apple authorized repair center or an Apple Store.

  • MacBook wifi timeout

I have an 07/08 white MacBook and there is something wrong with the Internet connection, it will only connect to my homes wifi if I am sitting directly next to the router. But when I was just at a hotel, it connected to their wifi really fast and quickly. I located the the hotspot at the hotel and if was outside my room, down the hall about 10ft. I am about the same distance in my house now. Please help I just bought this because I needed a spare laptop an I can't figure this out. My router is netgear and wpa. All of my other apple devices work just fine and my iPhones and other computers work too. I'm just having trouble with this MacBook.

Perhaps you could try this to resolve your issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10656

  • Yet another Macbook wifi issue. looses connection when uploading and downld

I've been having issues with wifi on my Macbook since I bought it. I've finally narrowed down the issue.
If I'm doing two things at once, the macbook loses connection. For example, if I'm uploading a large file to my server, say 500mb and I try to download a file off the internet at the same time, the connection breaks. It still shows I have a full connection but I can no longer brows the internet and the upload to my server fails.
Anyone else find this to be the case?

I've had an original MBair and a 2011 air on wireless without issues.  Look at System Preferences > Network > Wi-fi > Advanced.. button > Wi-Fi tab >  Clean out the network list to just the ones you use and drag them to the top.  Look for other setting that may have changed from the default in other tabs.

  • Macbook wifi invalid password

I made a hotspot using a WiFi receiver with a program called Connectify just today.
I use USB wifi stick connected to my PC that gets the Internet via LAN connection.
I have noticed that only my iPad and iPhone are able to connect to it.
The MacBook just says "invalid password" when I know for a fact that it is correct.
I've never been able to connect to it. I have already deleted WiFi and made a different one without result.
    The mac version is 10.9.1

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
        Restart the computer.
        Start up in Safe Mode.

  • Black Macbook Wifi

    Hi all,
I've got a black Macbook, bought in 2008, and recently the wifi connection keeps dropping out. Everyone else in the house is still connected, but I have to go and stand by the hub with my laptop for it to reconnect. I remember having problems with this a while ago, at least a year or two ago, but it just seemed to sort itself out. The only thing that I've done differently is upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, but I don't see how that could affect my wifi connection.
Any suggestions or diagnosise? It would be much appreciated!

    Help?

  • 2008 aluminium macbook WiFi NOT working after 10.8.5

Well, I have tried EVERYTHING, reset PRAM, SMC, reinstall combo, back from time machine, delete wifi and creat a new one. NOTHING will solve the WiFi problem on 2008 aluminium mackbook.
Before 10.8.5 everying just went great, and I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the router or macbook itself.
reset PRAM and SMC does NOTHING.
reinstall combo only work ONCE right after your first reboot.
back from time machine will NOT help.
The only thing that helps is to DOWNGRADE to 10.8.4
    APPLE, DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reset the SMC and ran the newer 10.8.5 combo updater. The installer ran and the machine restarted, and guess what - no wifi again!
I decided to see if applying the 10.8.5 supplemental update alone (not as part of the combo) would correct the situation. After that wifi was working again, but just for that boot - after restart it was gone again!
I went into safe mode and all is fine - wifi works in 10.8.5. I'm not running anything special that would be disabled in safe mode, so I don't think that the recent releases made any adjustments to avoid the wifi problem.
I think I'll have to go back to 10.8.4 again -- *sigh*.

  • IPad MacBook Wifi Conflict

I have read many other posts and lots of articles relating to the iPad WiFi issues; I have tried about every fix to no avail. Here's the problem - whenever my MacBook and iPad are using WiFi and are on the network using WiFi at the same time, neither works. If you turn one off, then other works. Both devices have different internal IP addresses issued by DHCP. I have an Airport Extreme and have named the two networks different names, etc. I have tried the fixes suggested by Princeton and they don't work. Also, I've noticed that the if the MacBook is not network, the iPad works fine for a time but then really slows down. I'm using the 5GHz network. By the way, neither device can even connect to the 2GHz network.
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this? This is nuts.
    Thanks, Fordvw

Did you ever resolve this? Am experiencing the same problem.
    Thanks,
    JLS
