Macbook wifi not working all of a sudden

So while doing a fresh install of ML on my unibody MB I ran into a snag just a few moments ago. Everything installed no problem, I updated to 10.8.1 yesterday and all was well. Today I installed a few other apps (skype, iLife 09) with iLife requiring a reboot. Once rebooted I was unable to get a wifi signal.
At first the little icon at the top bar was blank indicating wifi was turned off. I selected turn wifi ON and it now says looking for networks and after a few moments it fills the blank icon with grayed out lines, yet it never finds a network to connect to, just keeps looking. In system prefereces/network the wifi status shows to be OFF. Pressing "turn wifi on" next to the status does nothing. The button lights up blue when pressing it but it has no effect on the network status. Network Name shows a grayed out "Wi-Fi Off". I have done several re-boots and several shut downs and battery removals all without solving the issue. Using network diagnostic does not turn the wifi on either, just gets stuck on scanning. Connecting an ethernet cable gets me online no problem.
My other mobile devices indicate that my wifi network is alive and well. This led to me to think that perhaps the hardware crapped out, which would be strange that it did that all of a sudden. So I took the hard drive out and put it my SSD that resided in my MB until a few days ago (with everything still intact on the drive). Booted up and wifi is working fine. The only difference is that the SSD is running 10.8. I was thinking of updating it to 10.8.1 to see if that kills the wifi but I did the update on the other drive yesterday and had no problems with it after a reboot. The problem started today after the skype and iLife install and reboot. In other words the MB ran 10.8.1 fine for 24 hrs and I find it strange that iLife or Skype would cause this issue but that is when the problem started, so I'm stumped.
Is there a way to force wifi to turn on in terminal? Or any other suggestions? Anyway to go back to 10.8 or do I have to re-install everything from scratch?

Well, I have tried EVERYTHING, reset PRAM, SMC, reinstall combo, back from time machine, delete wifi and creat a new one. NOTHING will solve the WiFi problem on 2008 aluminium mackbook.
Before 10.8.5 everying just went great, and I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the router or macbook itself.

reinstall combo only work ONCE right after your first reboot.

I reset the SMC and ran the newer 10.8.5 combo updater. The installer ran and the machine restarted, and guess what - no wifi again!
I decided to see if applying the 10.8.5 supplemental update alone (not as part of the combo) would correct the situation. After that wifi was working again, but just for that boot - after restart it was gone again!
I went into safe mode and all is fine - wifi works in 10.8.5. I'm not running anything special that would be disabled in safe mode, so I don't think that the recent releases made any adjustments to avoid the wifi problem.
I think I'll have to go back to 10.8.4 again -- *sigh*.

Buttons not working, all of a sudden?

Nothing has changed, no editing was done, and all of a sudden, buttons not working. I trued exporting from Flash again, with the same pblish settings. Bit Action Script seems to give me a message now saying it wont export as a button. Tried AS 2.0 and 3.0, but i made original files in 3.0

Either convert that symbol to a button symbol so that you can use the code you showed, or assign it an instance name and place the following code in the timeline...

I am using Mac running OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) and Firefox 26. Two finger scroll down is not working all of a sudden only with Firefox.

Hardware : Macbook Pro
Operating System : OS X Mavericks v10.9.1
Browser : Firefox v26.0
All of a sudden, two finger scrolls doesn't work. Thats only when I am within Firefox Window. Everywhere it just works great. I got NO scroll bars at the edges of browser(Firefox) too. No way of proper browsing other than switching to Safari.
Request to fix this asap.

I'm having the same problem but what I found was the scrolling on my iMac was it works until you try and swipe to go back a page. Then the only solution is the quit the program and restart it.
Spec is an Apple magic track Pad on my iMac with OS X 10.9.
I'm currently using FireFox v25 but the same issue is in v27.0.1.

Effects not working all of a sudden in FCE 4.0.1

Hello there,
I've read about this problem before, where all of a sudden, out of the blue, the effects just stop working. I've used FCE for years without this problem, so I do know how to select clips to edit them etc.
I have also deleted my preferences and rebooted. In face, I got the preference manager and deleted them that way, as suggested on the Apple page.
However, not only did this not make the effects work, it also caused it to have to re-render every single clip every time I touch it, or change it in any way.
Now it looks like I have to re-set my rendering options too, only I don't remember how I had them so that they worked. >_<
Working on a video project with a deadline, so this is very frustrating!

As mentioned, I already trashed my prefs and that didn't help. All it did was make it so that I had to render everything every time I touched it. I sorted that part out by changing the RT properties. My real issue is that effects just randomly stopped working. I will check that link to see if it says anything other than what i already did though.

Data rate 1.8 MB/sec
Pixel aspect is square, composite normal.
Everything else is blank.
I will try again to clear preferences though. Thanks.

Blue ray drive not working all of a sudden and not reading any discs

I am using hp hdx 18 laptop which is a few years old and it was working fine until recently i found that the drive doesn't read discs anymore but the device manager shows it's fine and it tries to read by spinning and making noise and then stop
I tried to boot the machine from dvd in setup but it will just go straight to HDD bootup.
is it busted? just wondering what I can do to see if there's anything I can do before getting an external drive

It could have failed as suppected. When you tried to boot to a DVD or Restore disk, did you remember to change the boot order to DVD/CD first device?
The drive is normally a replaceable device but an external device should work OK, too.

Help! My Keyboard and mouse will not work all of a sudden on my G4

I am having a problem with both my keyboard and mouse. I have a graphite G4 and recently had to run disk warrior on i. I have had endless problems with this computer and even have a 2nd hardrive on it since it only came with a 10Gig. Needless to say it is all I have right now. I am running os x 10.2.2 on it and a few days after I recessitated it with disk warrior my keyboard and mouse suddenly went dead while I was on the internet. I tried pluging the two into different usb ports both on the tower and also into the flat panel mac display that it came with and nothing. I plugged in my wacom tablet and that works. i then tested the mouse and keyboard on my husband's dell laptop and they work. I cannot reset the PRAM b/c the keyboard won't work! What do I do??????

Besides removing the battery, you can do a PMU reset which will zap PRAM. See Mac PRAM, NVRAM, CUDA/PMU & Battery Tutorial
You only describe your Mac as a G4 graphite, which I believe is a G4 AGP. Here’s a diagram showing the location of the PMU reset button.

IPhoto not working all of a sudden!

Just to start this off, yesterday, iphoto worked perfectly fine. All the things that I am trying to do today, I did yesterday without an issue. Furthermore, I have not installed anything from the time it worked until the time it stopped.
So, the problem. When I opened iPhoto today it seemed to work fine for internal things like making albums, and such. However, if I attempted to export photos to mail or open in an external editor (Photoshop) it didn't work. In the case of Mail, the progress bar pops up and it appears to be sending the photos, but then nothing happens. If I open mail and try to drag photos to Mail, it gives me the little '+' symbol, but the photos do not show up in mail. If I try to 'edit photos in external editor', Photoshop opens but the pictures don't come in (no errors are reported). On top of all this, if I try to quit iPhoto, nothing happens. iPhoto does not close, but continues to work normally for organizing and moving photos.
My first attempt at a solution was to repair permissions (that fixes EVERYTHING). That seemed to work. I opened iPhoto again grabbed a random photo and sent it to Mail, no problem. Figuring this was solved, I then got the real photos and tried to send them to mail and the problems all came back. I began to think it was those photos, so I tried to send the one that worked a moment ago, but the problem continued on that one as well. I then remembered that 7.0.2 had just come out so I updated that, but the problem continued. I then repaired permissions again, but no luck.
Anyone have ANY ideas?!?!?

Repairing Permissions only works on System Files, not data files such as your pics. Download BatchMod from

Video chat, screen sharing not working all of the sudden

I am running iChat 4.0.2 with OSX 10.5.2 and have never had a problem with this before. Out of the blue, these features stopped working. I don't have any firewall on...more to the point, I have not changed anything to my network settings. I can connect to all of the test buddies but none of my real buddies. My brother and I would talk on iChat a few times a week and now it has stopped. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Tx2000 wireless does not work all of a sudden

I just found out one morning that my WLAN doesn’t work anymore and my laptop could not search for wireless networks. Actually, I experienced the same problem a couple of months after I bought my laptop (by that time it was still under warranty). To avoid so much hassle in schedules, What I did was bring it back to factory setting and luckily solved the problem. Few months later, the same problem arose! Again, I cannot pick up a wireless signal in our house. From my previous experience, I set it back to factory setting hoping to fix it but this time around it did not solve the problem anymore. I searched over the net so I could fix it myself. And to my surprise it was not only me who had experienced this very same problem but a lot more in the world. One reason they brought out is the defective NVIDIA.
I’m really desperate to fix this because I cannot afford to buy a new one. My warranty has already expired since it was a year ago when I bought my laptop.
Please help me..

I have an TX1260ea and i also have this problem. I email HP support and they told me to do the usual stuff like reinstall drivers, flash bios, go back to factory settings. Of course none of them worked so they said it was a problem with the wireless card and would send me and new one, this was over 4 months ago and im still waiting.
However just before they sent me an email to say they will send me a new wireless card, i had already bought one from the internet, which i did recieve. However this card did not fix the problem either so it seems to be a problem with the part of motherboard that the wireless card connects to.
I was able to purchase a very small edimax usb wireless adapter for £10, which works a treat. My wireless card does work every now and again, but very rarely.

2 Finger Swiping for Scrolling Not Working All of the Sudden

I have a G510 running Windows 8.1 and have the ELAN Smart-Pad software. It took me a while to get used to the new gestures on Windows 8, but was finally enjoying scrolling down webpages by using 2 fingers and swiping to the right (down) and left (up). I was using the laptop and closed my programs an d closed the lid to have some lunch. When I came back, I could no longer scroll down on a webpage by 2 finger swiping to the left or right. In order to scroll up or down now, I have to use the 2 fingers and swipe up and down. Before this incident, I was able to use either way, 2 finger swipe to the right, left, up, and down.
I have tried restarting my computer, rolling back the driver, re-installing the new driver. I also opened up the mouse settings in ELAN and reset everything back to default. I've double and triple checked that both "Vertical" and "Horizontal" scrolling is checked and enabled. I've restarted my computer a total of about 10 times now trying everything I can think of. Nothing works. I haven't downloaded any updates lately at all and this just happened out of nowhere. I've googled and searched these threads and have found nothing that describes my problem exactly, although there are some similar issues. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

If both the horizontal / veritical scrolling works on other apps then this is most likely a compatibility issue.

Tomcat does not work all of the sudden

I intstalled Tomcat about 4 months ago, and since that time it has been working correctly. Today, it decided that it wasn't going to work and when I try to load http://localhost:8080 after starting Tomcat I get the following error message only:

well, now my application works when I type the full path name, but I still get the same error when I try to run tomcats home page. I don't understand the problem, and furthermore don't really care so long as I can run my own applications.

What I recommend you try doing first is to turn iMessage off then back on. If that doesn't work, make sure that your Apple ID and password are correct. If everything seems correct and you still can't send out messages using iMessage instead of text message, I think you should either try calling AppleCare at 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466) and/or scheduling an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store (that is, if there's one close to you).

The power supply is shot. But that it lasted even this long is the wonder.. not that it died.
The TC runs too hot..
Look on ebay for "Time Capsule power supply"
You can get a replacement and fix it although the economics are not so good.. it is probably time for a new TC.
If you can DIY it is really only a few dollars worth of capacitors that go bad.
