Macbook will not charge port problem

Hello, My MACBOOK 2010 will not charge. I replaced the battery about 9 months ago but I received a "SERVICE BATTERY " warning. I was trying to charge my MAC and sparks came from the port and now it will not charge at all. I really hope I have not ruined my computer. If anyone has a suggestion , I would greatly appreciate any and all help.
THANKS JENN

Hmm, I did manage to get it charging again, but it still must be in that one specific position. Do you think a new adapter is still the way to go?
Most definitely. Malfunctioning electrical devices can be very dangerous. On the off-chance, you may wish to stop by an Apple Store and see if they are feeling generous.

My MacBook will not charge when plugged in. I know the cord works, I plugged it into my brothers and it worked fine. I've tried the smc reset. I don't know what else to do. I also borrowed my brothers cord and it won't work either.

Probably the battery or your logic board are damaged. Open System Information or System Profiler (in /Applications/Utilities), choose Power in the sidebar and copy here "Charge Information" and "Health Information". It's possible that you have to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller

  • My MacBook will not charge.

I bought this computer late last year, probably in October or November. Everything was fine until tonight, I was studying and I noticed I was at about 35% so I plugged it in. Soon, I noticed that it wasn't charging. I tried four different outlets in different rooms and two different chargers, so I am quite sure that it is neither a circuit or adapter problem. I tried shutting it off and all that until it finally died, and now it will not turn back on. I made an appointment at my local Genius Bar, but if anyone has a more immediate solution, it would be appreciated as my exam is in the morning. Thank you!

  • Battery will not charge, but problem is not battery or ac directly

So I have an HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC. I have had it for almost 2 years without any serious problems.  I use my laptop to play games on steam and have not had any overheating problems before. Yesterday, I had been playing a game for maybe 10 minutes and the computer shut off.  I assumed this was an overheating issue, but I could not turn the computer back on. Pressing the power button made no lights come on, there was no light for the ac led being plugged in, nothing.  I took the battery out and unplugged everything and held the power button for 30 seconds and nothing happened. Eventually, I got the ac led light to come on by plugging it in without the battery in the computer.
So now my problem is that I cannot charge the battery. I can only get the computer to recognize the ac adapter when the battery is not in. However, if I plug in the ac adapter and then put in the battery, it says it is charging. However, it isn't actually charging. It just stays at the current percentage.  If I unplug the ac adapter while the battery is in and then try to plug it back in, the computer will not recognize that the ac is plugged in.  I have to turn off the computer, take out the battery, and plug in the ac adapter again. Sometimes it doesn't work the first time either. I have to turn off and on the power strip that I plug it into. I tried it on another outlet and it worked that way, but I still had the same problem with the battery.
I also have tried to see if the problem is the ac adapter by plugging it in to a different laptop. The other laptop recognized it immediately with the battery still in. I also plugged in a different ac adapter to my computer and it recognized it with my battery still in (it's from an older laptop though so it does not have enough power to charge my battery, so I can't just use that one).
So the ac adapter apparently works fine. It seems like the problem is with my computer. The battery is also fine. I ran the system tests, it doesn't need to be calliberated either. I thought maybe I needed a BIOS update or there was some problem with a driver, but I don't see how that has to do with the ac adapter.  Does anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciate it as I need this laptop for school so it needs to be portable with a charged battery.

Hello angiesezrawr, welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you have a power issue with the notebook in relation to the battery. I will try to help you with this.
Based on the troubleshooting you've tried, the issue appears to be hardware related. Something internal related to the AC power socket and the battery.
For this I would suggest contacting support for further assistance.

  • My macbook will not charge and turns off completely when I remove the power cable.  can anyone help?

The battery is sitting at 75% and has not moved even though it is plugged into the mains.  It will not switch on unless connected to the power cable and turns straight off when disconnected.  The wee green light is on the cable is on when plugged in so its not the power cable.  Could it be my battery?  the I only bought this two years ago.
    Please help.

  • MacBook will not reboot after problem with Address Book

I was using AB today.... I tried to go into preferences and it quit on me. The option came up for me to send a message to Apple but that disappeared too. I relaunched AB again - same thing. The next time I tried to go into preferences the application would not respond - force quitting would not work. I had to shut machine off and now it will not reboot at all.... Any suggestions?

I am having a problem with getting the data on want on the address label and only that data.
ie. I just want the name of the husband and wife along with their last name and mailing address.
IF I have the spouse listed in the contact, and children listed in the contact I get an odd label printed.
ie. instead of John and Mary Smith 1234 Hope Street Seattle, WA 98101 what ends up printing is:
John and Mary Smith, Mary, Bill, Susan, Tom 1234 Hope Street SEattle, WA 98101.
All those extra names makes the label font print smaller for those kinds of contacts. Is there a way to only put the information on the address label that I want?

  • My MacBook will not charge or turn on. Any ideas on what I should do?

I left my MacBook for a few hours & came back to find it completely unresponsive. I thought the battery might be dead so I plugged it in. However the green light never came on. I have tried multiple outlets and the Mac will not turn on at all.

Hi. You can try to reset the SMC of your computer. Here's the steps:

  • My Macbook Pro will not charge. I have tried other charges and nothing. Can the MagSafe port go bad? Is that expensive to repair?

My Macbook Pro will not charge. I have tried other charges and nothing. Can the MagSafe port go bad? Is that expensive to repair?

The port can fail. Internal boards can fail. Batteries can fail. All with the result that no charging occurs.
You can try Resetting the System Management Controller and you can try Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters.
But usually you will have to take the mac in to a service place for testing.  It can get expensive, although occasionally it is not.

Any standard USB port should do the job.  Have you tried using a different cable?

    Hi Apple Support Communities!
    I have a 2006 MacBook Pro 1,1.
This computer is equipped with an Intel Core Duo processor, and 2 gigabytes of 667 DDR2 SDRAM.
It works absolutely fine, but I am having small problem with it: it will not charge. Since it is from 2006, Apple considers it to be "Vintage and Obsolete." I have no idea what is wrong with it, and am in need of it in proper working condition by this August. I do not have the original install discs for it, and have no way of running the hardware test to see if there are any problems. What do you all suggest? Thank you in advance!

    joncwyatt,
you can contact Apple directly to purchase a replacement pair of grey DVDs for your MacBook Pro, which has (among other things) its model-specific Apple Hardware Test. (The Apple stores don’t stock the grey DVDs.)
Was your new battery sold by Apple, or was it manufactured by a third-party? Have you tried purchasing a different battery for your MacBook Pro, to make sure that the problem is not with the new battery currently in your possession?

It rained in my window last night, on my power strip.  My macbook adaptor (charger) and iphone adaptor were both plugged into the strip.  The power strip is dead.  Iphone is fine.  Macbook will not boot up and charger light doesn't go on. I borrowed another charger and still no luck.  What should I do?  (Charger wasn't plugged into Macbook until I dried it off.)

    Spill Cleaning
And, don't think that just because it was two teaspoons and not a glassful that there is a difference.
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
Do not put in a bag of rice in as much as rice will get into the ports and optical drive and do further damage.

  • My macbook pro will not charge when I am using it.

My macbook pro will not charge when I am using it. My battery will say "charged" then "not charging" and it goes back and fourth. It says "Power Source: Power Adapter". But when I use my pro it will loose the power source then reconnect a second later to it. This problem is getting annoying because I have to stop using my macbook pro to charge it.

    Reset SMC.

    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.
