MacBook will not power on at all

Hi there,
My 2011 13" MacBook Air will not power up. It is charging, and recently turned from amber to green.
I have tried to reset the SMC and PRAM - obviously these options didn't fix the problem.
I cannot hear any fans or anything moving in the MacBook that would indicate that it is powering on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • MacBook will not power on and no start up sounds

My MacBook will not power on despite having a fully charged battery and the power cord has a green light. I used all of the support suggestions online and spoke with an apple care rep. I was told that it seemed as though it was a power flow issue- the power button is not responding properly. I was also told that it doesn't seem like it is affecting my hard drive since there are also no start up sounds.
My question is, is this problem fixable if I choose to sell the MacBook? And how costly is the solution?

Sorry about Necroing a 1 year old thread but I am having the same issue with the same Model. Laptop went dead overnight, no led indicator of power. Opened the laptop and tested the AC adapter. I get 19.5V exit on the cable. Tested the power connector on the motherboard and getting the same voltage. Capacitator to not seem damaged. Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot this further? I love that laptop

  • MacBook will not power or charge! HELP ME!

My MacBook was working great last night. I was watching a DVD on it and the battery started to go low. I closed it up and layed it down and went to bed. I did shut off DVD before closing it up. Safri might have still been on I am not sure. Either way I wake up to a dead battery, so as always I plugged in the AC to watch my movie, but the light on the AC will not even light up. I even took the battery out and still it will not Power on. I cleaned and put battery back in and still NOTHING. No chargeing up, no powering on. My computer just will not power on at all. I had this happen to an iBook, but it finally came on after taking the battery out ten or more times and just kept pushing the power button. But, I've tried all morning and I can't get anything to happen with this MacBook. Am I suppose to hold down a key or is there a way to reset the computer? It was working great! Not one problem EVER. Not even a shut down or locking up....nothing. Not. One. Problem. Please HELP ME!? I'm guessing the battery went completely dead and forced the computer to shut off....but why will it not cut back on? I'll give you the BIGGEST (((HUG))) if you can help me! -Aimee ;o)

Yea. They call themselves a "genius," but that they are NOT! Some are so clueless and only want you to buy a new computer. Theres gotta be a better way. Sometimes I think APPLE put a little device in their computers and after five years it blows up and kills the computer so your only option is to buy a new one. I"M NOT GIVING UP!!! LOL!

  • L655 has solid white power LED and soid orange battery LED and will not power on at all.

L655 has solid white power LED and soid orange battery LED and will not power on at all.  I tried a second power adaper.  Any other suggestions?  It does not even try to power on.  No fan or any other noises.

if it is not powering up on battery or AC, then there is either something wrong on the motherboard keeping it from powering up, or a bad power switch.  I personally have not encountered a bad power switch on any of my Toshibas, so I would suspect something with the motherboard.  It is strange that it does indicate that your plugged in and charging.  If you leave the power adapter plugged in, does the battery status eventually go white?

  • 13" white Macbook will not power on with known good battery

Macbook will not attempt to power on with a known good battery that shows full charge.  Also, when Magsafe plugged in, there is no indication (no green or amber light) it is connected.  This charger does work with another Macbook (same kind).
I have checked the Magsafe/port for any dust & debris, and have followed the tips listed in the FAQ's for a macbook with no power.  As I said, the battery & charger both work in another Macbook.
    Suggestions please!

Hi Stephanie. It could be a logic board issue or simply the power button at this point (let's hope its the latter). Can you give us more info on how this happened? Did the computer suddenly shut down or was it stored and unused for quite some time?
Without any power, and with you making sure both the battery and and charger is working, then I would suggest bringing it in to the Apple Store.

  • Macbook will not power up after software updates

I got my White macbook last week.
This afternoon, I ran a software update which had 6 items including iTunes 8 and OS X updates to 10.5.5.
I left the software update running and upon my return, the Macbook had powered off and I could not power it up again.
Tried everything in the manual and finally called my reseller for an appointment.
I am very surprised that this happened.
Can anyone provide a similar experience or tell me what may have happened?
    Thank you.
    RJ

iTunes 8 has been known to be killing hard drives on macbooks, so i think that the problem is that your hard drive is toasted/dead. Since its only a week old apple could probably replace it for free for you, but theres a big chance all your data is lost. Also try removing the battery and putting it back in, then start it up. If it starts up but all you see is a folder w/ a question mark it means its corrupt. I would take it to the reseller or an apple genius to check it out (at the apple store)

  • Macbook Will Not Power On

My macbook recently failed to wake up from sleep.
    Here are my current symptoms.
With magsafe pluggged in, LED glows green on adapter.
Battery indicator flashes full when tested.
White LED on front panel of macbook does not light at all.
    I have:
    Removed all accessories.
Held down the power to force it off.
Removed the battery and the adapter, and then held power for 5 seconds.
Tried to reset the Reset the PRAM.
I am dreading that it's a logic board issue, but thought I might be missing something.
Pressed the control key, the command key, and the power button simultaneously and hold for three seconds to try to restart the computer.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

Yes. I did give both of those a shot.
The only thing I can think of that I haven't done is remove the battery and AC and leave them off for an extended period of time.

  • MacBook will not power up

    Hello all,
Well last week I was watching a video on my MacBook (white, 2010) and it suddenly went dead. I plugged it in and the lights on the charger was green. I could not get it to power up. When I pushed the power button I got nothing. There were no lights or sounds or anything on the screen. I tried to reset the SMC and still got nothing.
I took it into the Apple store and the genius looked at it. He seemed genuinely puzzled and said he couldn't tell why it wouldn't power up. He said there seemed to be a disconnect between the button and the machine. He said if he changed the logic board out that would fix it. It's going to cost $520 plus tax (ouch) for that so I'm hoping there is another solution to this.
Now, I did some research online and it seems most folks with logic board failures deal with blue screens, grey screens, partial startup, and unexpected repeated crashing. I experienced none on these things prior to this incident. I have literally not had a single issue with my Mac since I bought it.
Alternately can anyone suggest a good repair place in Vancouver BC that will fix it for less then the outrageous amount Apple is trying to gouge from me?
    Thanks!

From your description of how it died, my guess would be that it is a logicboard problem as well. Different people will experience different syptoms when a logicboard dies as it depends on what circuit or component actually dies. A laptop isn't like a desktop that has a power supply, video card and logicboard. Its all one piece in a laptop, so there aren't many other pieces that would cause this kind of failure.
As for finding a cheaper repair, you might try looking for a used logicboard or an apple repair center (not applestore) that might do it slightly cheaper, but the brunt of the cost is the actual part, and no matter where you go, that part has to come from Apple.

  • System will not power up at all AC power light only G50-109NR

    Hell,
I have a HP G50-109NR that has had the following parts replaced up to this point.:
    System Board
    Power On Assembly Board
Plug In Type DC Power Jack
I get the light next to the power jack to come on when I plug the power supply in.
That is all I can get to happen on this laptop. I don't want to give up, it seams to me like it is still not getting power but yet the little light next to the plug lights up. I have checked the output of the power supply and it seems to be working. I mean not a beep no other lights come on nothing. This time the system board came directly from HP. I have used very good anti static protection through the process. Anti static mats my self and even my hand tools are grounded together.
Please anyone that has any Ideas at all please contact me via my email [text removed for privacy]
Thank You for any help received.

Have you tested the polarity, voltage, amperage and such coming out of the power brick? There is definately power coming out of it, but LEDs, as I'm sure you know, will light up with a lot of power specs, including what may be out of range for the motherboard to power on with.
I take it the battery is completely discharged? I have owned several second hand laptops that have had issues with batteries. One, the battery was toasted, and if it was in the laptop, it wouldn't power up regardless of the DC input. The one I'm using now won't power on unless the battery /is/ installed, though the lights come on.  Maybe you have a similar situation there.
I'd still consider stripping everything non-essential off the motherboard to try.

  • HT4623 iPad Mini - one year old.  Plugged it in to charge and now it will not power on at all.  I have tried different cables to ensure it was not a faulty cable.  What else can I do?

I have an iPad mini that is exactly one year old.  I plugged it in to charge it.  The next morning it ws completely dead.  I can't get it to come on no matter what I try.  I have tried a different cable to see if my cable was faulty, but  that id not resolve the issue.  No matter what I try, I can not get it to power on.  I cannot get iTunes, nor my computer to recognize it when it is plugged in.
Has anyone else had this issue?  What can I do?  Any help would be appreciated!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Lenovo laptop will not power up at all. Please help

Ok, so I got up this morning to turn my laptop on and it acted like it was gonna power up but nothing ever appeared on the screen. So I took out the battery and put it back in to see if that would work, but now it doesn't show any signs of power at all. I read somewhere it could be the motherboard cause even while plugged in it doesn't work. I just got the laptop a week before Christmas so it's not like its that old. Also the battery was holding a great charge before this happened so I know its not dead. I can find the receipt to bring it in, but I do have the bank statement from where I paid with a debit card so would that suffice enought to exchange it? Thanks for any help.

Kinda sounded like they tried that nono "cause even while plugged in it doesn't work."
Definitely try xl's info and try taking out the battery and unplugging it, hold down power button for 15ish seconds, then reinsert battery, replug in and try to power it on.
