Macbook wirelessly to Apple TV without router

I was wondering if there is any way to hook up the apple TV to a macbook pro Wirelessly? since I have no router at home, I tried with ethernet and if works, but i want to take advantage of the wireless...also I tried to create a network in my macbook but the apple tv just wouldn' t show up....any tips?

MacBook Wireless Connection on a 2Wire Router

Hi everyone,
I just a new MacBook that I'm trying to get connected to the internet with my 2Wire Homeportal 1000SW. It's an older router that I've had for about 3 years.
I'm able to connect directly with an ethernet cable, but it's not working wireless. The MacBook is able to pick up the signal, but it won't authorize the password I'm putting in. My current authorization method is WEP using the default 10-digit code from the bottom of the portal. I've checked the password over and over again and I'm super frustrated that this is not working.
I even went ahead and tried opening up my connection, so that it didn't require a password. Still no luck.
Wireless is working fine with two Dell laptops. I also had a guest with a MacBook Pro that's about 1.5 years old, and that worked fine as well.
Any ideas? Is this a problem with the Mac or with my router?

Say no more.. upgrading to Mavericks.. any upgrade install is prone to issues.. the Mavericks one is the worst of any recent upgrades.
Lets just try and isolate the problem.
In the setup of the AE, give different names to the two wireless bands.. so go into the airport utility.. click the AE, Click edit.. click the wireless tab.. and now type in a new name.
Try AE24ghz
Then click the wireless options and change the name for the 5ghz..
Make it AE5ghz
Then update the AE.
In the computer.. select either band.. and see if your other clients are affected if they use the band that the Mac is not using.
Alternatively turn off wireless in the macbook and use ethernet.. oh please please have a Mac with an ethernet port.. otherwise buy a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter.. it is well worth having. wireless is never to be trusted.

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply.

I think you have to go to the java website and down load the version you need and enable it in firefox's prefrences

Hi George. AirPlay Mirroring only works with iPads and iPhones. See:

Now, if you just want to push video content playing in iTunes on your Mac, then go down to the lower right corner of the iTunes window and click the AirPlay icon and select your AppleTV in the list. The content will appear on your AppleTV.
You must have Home Sharing setup on both iTunes on the Mac and the settings on the AppleTV.

Apple tv without wifi and airplay

I don't have a wireless network so I hardwired my apple tv.
I can use airplay between my macbook pro and apple tv (after turning ipv6 off).
I would like to use airplay on my ipad 2, so I shared my internet connection to my ipad.
The only problem is that my ipad doesn't recognize the apple tv.
How can I make this work (without buying an airport express)?

I selected share internet in the settings for sharing (don't know if it's the correct name, my system is Dutch).
--> Share connection via ethernet--> with computers using wifi.
Don't if that's the same.
I've already tried that, but the wifi speed my macbook pro creates doesn't seem to be sufficient, the screen shakes and has a lot of delay.

Why is music streamed from my MacBook Pro to Apple TV via AirPlay choppy?

I'm trying to stream music from iTunes on my MacBook Pro to my new Apple TV via AirPlay, but the music is extremely choppy, cutting in and out. It's completely unlistenable. However, I can use AirPlay to stream from my Macbook Pro to my Pioneer VSX 1021 AirPlay enabled receiver with no issues. Additionally, I can stream from my iPhone or iPad to the Apple TV without these issues. Therefore it would appear wifi bandwidth is not the root cause. I'm stumped. Help!

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

Very Slow Streaming from MacBook Pro to Apple TV

I am trying to stream movie from my MacBook to my Apple TV but the movies do not stream. My library shows up on my Apple TV and when I select them they do not load. After a few minutes a message will show up saying, "An error occurred loading this content, Try again later." I have had my Apple TV for about 5 months and have not had any problems streaming content before except when I had to do some port forwarding through my router but about a week ago it started with this issue. I have a PC hooked up to my network and am able to stream from that without any problems. My MacBook is running OSX 10.8.2 with iTunes 11.0.1, my Apple TV is running 5.1.1. Please help with any suggestions you might have.
