Macbook won't install mavericks

I have a mid 2010 Macbook (the white model, last regular macbook to be made) and it won't install Mavericks. It currently has Snow Leopard installed because this is the only OS it will accept, any newer OS downloaded from Apple gives me the same error message while trying to install "Install failed, restart your computer and try again" and no matter how many times I try it won't allow me to install either Mountain Lion or Mavericks. I should also note that this laptop seems to be failing, the magsafe port is broken and the laptop won't charge, but will accept the plug as a power source and the DVD drive was broken and has been removed. Please help because this Macbook used to be running Mavericks just fine, but after a wipe of my HDD and an attempted reinstall it became glitchy and broken. I have also verified and repaired the disk countless times and nothing fixes this issue. Is my HDD failing? I just need to know so I can fix the problem, Apple charges too much for simple repairs

It was is lion or 10.7, now when I start up it goes straight to the maverick installation prompt. It goes through this for a few minutes then comes up installation failed. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. So for some reason it's not allowing the installation of new so to be completed but I think it may have gone to far to restore old OS.

You don't want to install the software that came with the drive, you don't need it and it will be problematic. Connect the new drive, open Disk Utility, select the new drive and partition it using the GUID partition scheme, then format it as Mac OS extended journaled and it will be easy to use with your Mac.

  • My MacBook won't install the software

My Macbook Pro won't install the software

It has been months since you asked for help.  This worked for me:
I installed Apple Software Installer Update by itself and it installed.  Then I tried to install each update one by one.  I noticed my Safari update and Security Update 2013-14 were not installing like the others so I waited to install them after I did all the others.  Also, after I noticed that those two updates were giving me problems, I excluded them and was able to update all the other updates at once.
Safari and Security Update were the only two left. I was able to update them.

  • Macbooks won't install anything else after Snow Leopard upgrade

I have just upgraded an iMac and two MacBooks to Snow Leopard. The iMac is working fine, but both notebooks won't install any other software. The installation software, after agreeing with licenses and so on, does nothing after clicking the install button.
The same issue is happening in the two MacBooks. It is not possible even to install updates (SL 10.6.1, for example). Apple support had absolutely no idea of how to fix this.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I have just finished reinstalling Snow Leopard from the DVD (holding the "C" key while turning on the computer until the Apple symbol shows up). Now everything is working just fine. It is now running Mac OS 10.6.1.
    Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro Fuzzy Green Screen & Won't Install Mavericks

    Hello
I've had my Macbook Pro 15 Inch since late 2011 and recently i've been getting this Green Screen that fuzz's & shows up randomally, so i uninstalled Mavericks and tried to reinstall it ever since i'd been having this problem. It won't reinstall and i need a little bit of help getting it fixed.

    Have your friend try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
And, be sure there is at least 20 GBs of free space on the hard drive for the installation.

  • MacBook-won't install/update software unless in safe mode

Hi there, I am worried I have a virus. My computer won't update/install software unless in safe mode. It is also incredibly slow to use the internet and sometimes microsoft word will just close on me unexpectedly. It also gets very hot. I am unsure what to do about it. It is a white macbook with curved edges, I had had it about 5 years. Recently it has been having a lot of problems and I am unsure why.

This is not something you should blame on a virus... it's extremely unlikely that you have any kind of malware, and even more unlikely that that malware is a contributing cause of these problems.
I'd advise you to try the suggestions in my Mac Performance Guide. If nothing there helps, let us know what you found as a result of those suggestions.

  • Macbook won't install anyhting/macbook installeert niets

    Hallo,

it also might help people to suggest some things to try if you give us some more information such as what application(s) you are trying to install, and how. Is it from a CD or from a .dmg? And do you have any external drives attached?

  • My Macbook Won't Install updates

I just purchased a Macbook Pro and it won't automatically update the software. It looks like it downloads the software but then just quits and never ends up installing.

It never automatically updates the software, updates do need to be preformed manually. Try logging out of the app store, restarting the computer, and logging back in. Then run your updates again

  • New Macbook won't install Lion OS X

I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro from the apple store last month, recently enough to receive the download of Lion free of additional charge. I went to the app store, was able to receive it for free, and clicked download at noon yesterday. By 5 pm, it had downloaded halfway. By 10 pm, it had stopped downloading, but just sat in the dock. I cancelled the download and tried it again today, and it won't even begin to download but it also hasn't given me any errors messages. I tried downloading a different, much simpler app to see if it was a problem with the app or my computer and this app also refuses to download.
Why is my computer having such a hard time with this? It's brand new and hasn't been displaying signs of any other buggy problems. What can I do?

I checked the hard drive utility and there were errors on the hard drive that needed to be fixed. But it wouldn't not let me repair the errors....
Before you reinstall anything, be sure that your hard drive is fine. Boot up to the Install DVD and choose Disc Utility from the top menu ...verify/repair the drive. After you get the green light from Disc Utility, I'd suggest booting to your Install CD once again but this time holding down the 'D' key at start-up ...this will get you into the Apple Hardware Test.
If things are fine here then go ahead with the installs/updates/backups as pedropablo suggests. If things are not fine, you'll need to make a trip to your Apple shop.

  • OS X Utilities won't install Mavericks

I Am trying to do a fresh install of Mavericks on a mid 2010 Mac Pro.  I downloaded the latest install of Mavericks from the App Store, then used Diskmaker X to create a bootable USB hard drive.  It's an actual USB hard drive, not a jump drive.  It boots up just fine to OS X utilities, but when I click "Install OS X" the continue button lights up but does nothing when I click on It.  Disk Utility is working from here though.  I've already partitioned the internal drive as Mac journaled with GUID so it should be ready to install on.

You can clone your drive, then boot from the clone to do the fresh install. I recommend this over restoring from Time Machine.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone. You need an external drive large enough to copy your entire internal drive's contents.
