Macbook won't let me backup iphone

I wasn syncing my iphone to my macbook and for backing up it said I have not enough space for backing up, I have 170 Gigabytes free, not sure why it wont backup.

I have had the same exact issue.  I purchased an iPhone 6 shortly after they came out (fall of 2014).
After restoring the phone from my iPhone 5 backup, I have not been able to backup the new phone at all.  Direct connect to iTunes or iCloud.
Tried every single recommendation on Apple Support as well as out on the web... Nothing.
- Tried the "delete the old backup" routine... only succeeded deleting a backup... did not fix the problem.
- Tried deleting my photos... no luck.
- etc... etc...
I even resorted to calling tech support on the phone.  I was advised that I had surpassed all of their ideas and I should continue working with it on my own... and to call back at a later date to see if any new tricks had evolved.
The only thing I can find that "hangs up" is when you go to:
Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > "this phone" > (    )
- Backup Options  (choose the data you want to back up) - continues to work and "spin" without ever populating any information.
- I don't know what to do about this.  I also don't know if this is related to the issue (but it probably is).
- If there is something corrupt on the phone, how do I find it without wiping my phone and starting fresh.  I hate to lose any more than I've already lost.
Please... this is frustrating... VERY frustrating.

My macbook won't let me download the new version of itunes and my ipod won't sync without the new version of itunes. Please help!!!

Are you running Snow Leopard or later?
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.

  • My 4th gen ipod won't backup after it froze during a software update to 4.3.5. I had to cancel the backup at the start of the update and now it won't let me backup to my computer, freezes during backup or says my backup is corrupted.

I pressed 'X' during a backup after it froze during an update to software 4.3.5 and now it won't let me backup on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? It either freezes during backup or says my 'backup is corrupted' or 'I cannot backup on my computer'. I have had to abort quite a few attempted backups since the initial problem, which I think has made it worse. I have already tried restoring my ipod, deleting the aborted backup from my preferences/devices in itunes and deleting it from my user/appdata/etc on my PC hard drive. Any ideas what to try next?

After hours of frustration I eventually decided to restore. I lost my apps, but i didn't have many and was able to reinstall them for free. During the restore it updated my ipod to the latest software 4.3.5, which i think may have caused the initial problem, but the backup issue remains. Sometimes it stops me from syncing and other times it allows me to skip the backup, but still says that i can't backup on my computer. I'm worried that it has done something to my computer as it took me six hours to do a Bullguard scan, which only normally takes about an hour. The scan didn't come up with any viruses, but it stalled at system32 for ages. The only other thing that i can think of is that a demo CD I uploaded may have caused a problem. iTunes couldn't find a track listing for it but gave me a few different options. i thought I had to choose one to continue, so did that then changed the track details to the correct tracks. I'm now worried that may have introduced an issue or caused a glitch in iTunes. How paranoid am I sounding?

  • I have a macbook and I'm having trouble backing up my pictures on an external hard drive.  The Macbook won't install the backup drive soft ware? It is a new Sea Gate hard rive from costco.

I have a macbook and I'm having trouble backing up my pictures on an external hard drive.  The Macbook won't install the backup drive soft ware? It is a new Sea Gate hard rive from costco.

You don't want to install the software that came with the drive, you don't need it and it will be problematic. Connect the new drive, open Disk Utility, select the new drive and partition it using the GUID partition scheme, then format it as Mac OS extended journaled and it will be easy to use with your Mac.

  • If my macbook won't let me sign in on facetime what should i do?

if my macbook won't let me sign in on facetime or messages what should i do?

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you start up, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound outputand Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but still doesn't work when you restart in "normal" mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.apsd.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 12
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 13
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
    Step 14
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 15
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support. When you set up a support call, select "Apple ID" as the product you need help with, not the hardware model. That way, if you're not under AppleCare, you may be able to talk your way out of being charged for the call.

  • MacBook won't let me let me install mountain lion because i don't have the previous owner's password how do i get around that

MacBook won't let me let me install mountain lion because i don't have the previous owner's password how do i get around that

What model year it the Mac you have? If it is a Late 2011 or newer model then you can first reinstall the Original version of OS X that came on it by using the Online Internet Recovery system. Hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r key at startup and hold them down until you see a Spinning Globe in the center of the screen. From the screen that comes up use Disk Utility to Repartition the drive as one partition aand when that is done close DU and Select Reinstall Mac OS X.
If it is older then a late 2011 model then you will need the Original System disks for that Mac. These can be order from Apple for a small charge.

  • MacBook won't let me type anything at all

MacBook won't let me type anything at all. It's running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snowleopard

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to allow it to run on Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • MacBook won't let me partition HD

    Hi,
I'm on a MacBook5.1 - I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. First let me admit some things; I first tried partitioning my MacBook by using G-Parted (off of an Ubuntu LiveCD), and it seemed to be working but then the time element got so large and long - like 2.5 hours - that I figured something wasn't right. So I pulled the plug in the middle of G-parted's process- maybe not the best idea.
But as it happened I was able to boot back into my Mac OS X and everything was there etc. Everything seemed fine. So I thought I'd try to partition with Disk Utility and it started to work; I kept it set on the Mac OS Journaled setting. But then it stopped fairly soon into the process saying 'Partition Failed - Error on disk blah blah'. I'm not positive that's exactly what it said but it's close.
Here's the thing - not only will it not partition, it won't let me pick any other file format other than Mac OS Journaled. The other options, like Fat32, are simply not there in the drop-down menu. Nor will it let me click the Options button - that button stays grayed-out for whatever reason.
I wonder if I should just count my blessings and not push this. But I've partitioned many times before and I hate not knowing what's wrong.
I appreciate any help or assistance on this. And btw, I've done a Repair Permissions on my HD several times and it seems to do a lot - the process there looks very busy like there is a lot in need of repair. But that hasn't helped me for partitioning at all.
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

not to trash on open source, but G-parted isn't the one to be using, that was your mistake right there. either use disk utility or drive genius / techtool for these task with OS X on the drive.
second, always backup beforehand. use carbon copy cloner or Super Duper to clone the current working partition of OS X only, not the whole drive.
note: repair permissions isn't going to fix a corrupt partition map or filesystem.
next, try booting off the DVD & running Disk Utility from there. Do a repair under the First Aid tab. If it errors, the partition table is toast. You'll have to reformat the drive. do your partitioning from there.

  • Error 3194 won't let me restore iPhone 4

The problem with this is that when I click on more info after iTunes says it won't let me restore...if I use terminal and try to edit the host file, there is no host file to edit. I get passed typing in my admin password and then it show the file: private/ect/hosts but that is it. There is literally no host file for me to even fix. This was all caused by me having just backed up my iphone 4 to my mac and then the cord was accidentally pulled out and it went into recovery mode. Tiny Umbrella, Recboot, and all other third party software does nothing to exit it from recovery mode. I just really need my phone back at this point and am hoping there is some way to get it out of recovery mode. If you guys have information for me or can help me with finding, creating, or going back to a factory host file, that would be AMAZING!
    Thanks,
    Maddy

Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed on the computer?
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • IMovie won't let me export iPhone 4s videos in HD

I have imported a video file from iPhone 4S to imovie. I can edit it in iMovie but when I try to export it won't let me do it in HD. It keeps creating a m4v file. Help.

After hours of searching through forums I have found the solution to our problem.
iPhone 4s video is automatically shot in HD. There is no way to turn this off.
In iMovie Version 9.0.4 iLife '11 you can set your project properties  (File>Project Properties) to either either 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 standard.
Now HD is specifically widescreen and you can not create HD video in a 4:3 screen ratio. This is what my project was set to after spending over 16 hours working.
Once I change the ratio I was able to share and export my project in 720P and 1080P HD
You will have to tweak your project a little as when I went from 4:3 to 16:9 it cropped some of my video weird.
I hope this helped you as I am thoroughly relieved to have figured this out and slightly proud that I did it on my own.

  • Macbook won't let me re-install

My daughters Macbook will not let me re-install the OS with Lion… it ask's me to provide App store ID which I am putting in and passwords are correct.. then say's the the app store is temporarily unavailable yet on other apple devices there is not a problem..?.. I have also made sure we are connected to the wireless network..
Firstly the problem began as her macbook would not start at all… even in safe mode and was showing a lot of errors in the background (black screen like dos system) I was unable to do anything there …. then i went to re-install and i had also erased the Mac Hd as I was following another persons apple directions so then to re-instal…..
Would love some guided directions on how to get her macbook fixed without having to go to the store and pay someone to do it..

You can re-download purchased apps for free as long as you use the same account used to originally purchase them. Click buy, a popup will appear saying do you want to buy, your credit card will be charged, click yes, another popup will appear saying you already bought do you want to re-download, click yes.

  • HT204053 My new macbook won't let me sync my apple account because it says it's active on 5 devices already. This is incorrect/I only have ever used this apple ID for my iPhone. What do I do?

    Help

Sorry, but you can't delete an account. If you can't use the Apple ID as is for your daughter, you'll need to get up another email address if you want to create a new Apple ID. There are a number of places where you can create a free email account which you can use, including Apple's own iCloud service. You don't have to actually use that email account for anything; you can include a different email address to which Apple will send receipts, etc.
    Regards.
