Macbook won't let me re-install

My daughters Macbook will not let me re-install the OS with Lion… it ask's me to provide App store ID which I am putting in and passwords are correct.. then say's the the app store is temporarily unavailable yet on other apple devices there is not a problem..?.. I have also made sure we are connected to the wireless network..
Firstly the problem began as her macbook would not start at all… even in safe mode and was showing a lot of errors in the background (black screen like dos system) I was unable to do anything there …. then i went to re-install and i had also erased the Mac Hd as I was following another persons apple directions so then to re-instal…..
Would love some guided directions on how to get her macbook fixed without having to go to the store and pay someone to do it..

You can re-download purchased apps for free as long as you use the same account used to originally purchase them. Click buy, a popup will appear saying do you want to buy, your credit card will be charged, click yes, another popup will appear saying you already bought do you want to re-download, click yes.

What model year it the Mac you have? If it is a Late 2011 or newer model then you can first reinstall the Original version of OS X that came on it by using the Online Internet Recovery system. Hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r key at startup and hold them down until you see a Spinning Globe in the center of the screen. From the screen that comes up use Disk Utility to Repartition the drive as one partition aand when that is done close DU and Select Reinstall Mac OS X.
If it is older then a late 2011 model then you will need the Original System disks for that Mac. These can be order from Apple for a small charge.

Are you running Snow Leopard or later?
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and

  • Won't let me click install

Hi, I have Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard all ready to install on my MacBook Pro with serial number (validated) and internet (but all windows/programs closed), but right when I get to the window that says "install" or customize, it won't let me click Install. It changes color when I click it, but does nothing.
I tried to quit then put disc back in, but no dice.
    Ideas?

copy the installation files from your cd to a desktop directory and install from that directory.
make sure you have no antivirus/antimalware running.  if that fails, start in safe mode and then install from that directory.

  • I have moved to uk from ireland and bought new iphone, set up using my existing Apple ID account and profile but won't let me buy install or update apps??

I have moved to uk from ireland and bought new iphone, set up using my existing Apple ID account and profile but won't let me buy install or update apps??
Can anyone advise me on what I need to do?
My existing account is linked to ireland as my bank account details are there, does this make a difference?
    Please help!

Until you get a UK bank account and credit card, buy and redeem UK iTunes gift cards for use in the iTunes and Mac App Stores. But you need to switch your region/country to the UK store in your account information, as you can't use UK iTunes gift cards in the Irish stores, the gift cards are country specific.

  • If my macbook won't let me sign in on facetime what should i do?

if my macbook won't let me sign in on facetime or messages what should i do?

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you start up, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound outputand Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but still doesn't work when you restart in "normal" mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.apsd.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 12
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 13
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
    Step 14
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 15
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support. When you set up a support call, select "Apple ID" as the product you need help with, not the hardware model. That way, if you're not under AppleCare, you may be able to talk your way out of being charged for the call.

  • MacBook won't let me type anything at all

MacBook won't let me type anything at all. It's running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snowleopard

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to allow it to run on Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • MacBook won't let me partition HD

    Hi,
I'm on a MacBook5.1 - I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. First let me admit some things; I first tried partitioning my MacBook by using G-Parted (off of an Ubuntu LiveCD), and it seemed to be working but then the time element got so large and long - like 2.5 hours - that I figured something wasn't right. So I pulled the plug in the middle of G-parted's process- maybe not the best idea.
But as it happened I was able to boot back into my Mac OS X and everything was there etc. Everything seemed fine. So I thought I'd try to partition with Disk Utility and it started to work; I kept it set on the Mac OS Journaled setting. But then it stopped fairly soon into the process saying 'Partition Failed - Error on disk blah blah'. I'm not positive that's exactly what it said but it's close.
Here's the thing - not only will it not partition, it won't let me pick any other file format other than Mac OS Journaled. The other options, like Fat32, are simply not there in the drop-down menu. Nor will it let me click the Options button - that button stays grayed-out for whatever reason.
I wonder if I should just count my blessings and not push this. But I've partitioned many times before and I hate not knowing what's wrong.
I appreciate any help or assistance on this. And btw, I've done a Repair Permissions on my HD several times and it seems to do a lot - the process there looks very busy like there is a lot in need of repair. But that hasn't helped me for partitioning at all.
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

not to trash on open source, but G-parted isn't the one to be using, that was your mistake right there. either use disk utility or drive genius / techtool for these task with OS X on the drive.
second, always backup beforehand. use carbon copy cloner or Super Duper to clone the current working partition of OS X only, not the whole drive.
note: repair permissions isn't going to fix a corrupt partition map or filesystem.
next, try booting off the DVD & running Disk Utility from there. Do a repair under the First Aid tab. If it errors, the partition table is toast. You'll have to reformat the drive. do your partitioning from there.

  • Macbook won't start up from install CD... rejects it everytime

    Hello,
I am having a little problem and I am not quite sure how bad this could be.
I ran Onyx in my Black Macbook and says minor repair needs to be done or something like that. Then I went to Disk Utility and when I hit Verify disk and error saying pretty much the same showed up. In order to repair whatever needs to be repair I tried to restart my Macbook with the installation CD inside and holding key C, grey screen came up and a folder with a questions mark appears for couple seconds then goes straight to my computer and works fine but rejects the cd... every time I put it in... it rejects the CD and pop it out... I still have access to everything in my computer, and I can say that it runs normal. I just don't understand why keeps rejecting the CD... Any advice would be great...
    Thank you

    Dear Caritoram,
It is possible that your startup DVD is corrupted and you may need to have Apple replace it. This happened to me recently and they sent me a new DVD for a minimal charge. However, before you do that I suggest you do what I did for my wife’s Intel Macbook. I purchased an inexpensive Firewire external hard drive .
    (http://www.cdw.com/shop/search/results.aspx?key=firewire%20hard%20drives&SortBy= PriceAsc&searchscope=All
Connect it using Firewire connection. Then open Disk Utility, find the drive volume, click on p[partition, Under Volume Scheme drag to 1 Partition. Make sure under Volume Information the Format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled), The next step is the most important. Click on Options and click on GUID Partition Table. This last step enables you to start up your Macbook from the external drive. After you do this then click ok and then click Partition on the format screen. After the reformatting is done, you should be able to install the Mac OS on this external drive using the disks that came with your computer.
After completion the computer should restart using the External ,drive as the start up drive. At this point you can try and run Disk Utility on your Macbook or you can purchase and install DiskWarrior on the external drive (which is what I did) and run it to fix your Macbook.
The reason for all this is that DiskWarrior does not have the ability as of yet to start up an Intel Macbook and this is what they recommend on their web site.
When you complete all of the above, disconnect the Firewire drive with it’s wire and put it back in the box and save it somewhere for need emergency repairs.
*Note; After you have installed the Mac OS system on the External Firewire Drive you will always be able to start up your Macbook no matter how badly it is working by holding down the Option key on the keyboard at start up. It may take a while but eventually you will see the icon for the external drive and when the little clock stops just click on that icon and then click on the forward arrow. This should solve all your future software problems for a minimum investment.
Also, never forget to back up your files. My wife uses a little 2 Gb (about $35) flash drive for all her back up and it works fine.
Hope this helps. I am willing to help you out if you proceed with my suggestions.

  • Macbook Pro - It won't let me re-install OSX (Loading won't finish).

Okay so I erased my MacBook Pro completely. Everything was fine until I re-installed, attempted* to re-install the OS X.
Everything went perfectly until it kept saying 30 minutes remaining and the loading would not finish. So I would re-install it, the download would be over, then it would restard again for some weird reason.
Now I am using online help..

The "Importing" message can be cause by a corruption of your iPhoto library - then uninstalling will not help. Try this:
    Force Quit iPhoto:
From the -menu in the upper left corner of the screen:   > Force quit ⌥⌘⎋
Then select iPhoto from the panel.
Then fix your iPhoto library and remove the "Importing" folder from the library  -
see this post by LarryHN how to do it:

  • Macbook won't let me log-in

My Macbook (mid-2009) won't start up. Yesterday morning it was working fine and I was able to log-in and do what I normally do (i.e. Safari, iTunes, etc.) on a low battery. Yesterday evening, I'd turn it on, I'd get the white start-up screen and that was it, no Apple logo, no loading wheel. After about 30 seconds, I'd get a flashing picture of a folder with a "?" on it and there was also a soft audible beeping. I let it charge overnight but I'm still having the same problems

Replacing the hard drive on a 5,2 Mid 2009 or earlier MacBook is very easy. Remove the battery, loosen 3 screws, pull the tab on the hard drive to remove it, undo 4 screws on the caddy, put the new hard drive in the caddy, slide the drive back in and close up.
To buy a hard drive try Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Dr ives or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Here's instructions on replacing the hard drive with photos http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=45088
If you can get your hard drive to boot up to transfer your current hard drive I like Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case and clone your old drive to the new one. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one. If you can't get it to boot up then you'll need to reinstall your OS and other applications
