After logging into my MacBook Pro it won't load the desk top. It just stays on the universe screen

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • MacBook won't load - please help?

I'm writing this from my iphone. I bought my MacBook a little over a year ago and recently had to have the keyboard replaced (covered under warranty, nothing I did) in August and it worked fine until this morning. Seemingly over-night, it takes 5-10 minutes for it to respond to a click, finder doesn't work, programs won't load, etc. I've restarted and shut down completely multiple times with no luck. Like I said, it was working great when I went to bed last night, I have no idea what's wrong. :( please help!

If it's "new", I would call AppleCare Support at 1-800-APL-CARE for some direct help. Apple computers come with 90 days of free telephone support for software issues and a year of support for hardware problems. If it won't turn on, it would seem to be a hardware problem you should have Apple check out.

  • Macbook won't load leopard

I have a macbook with leopard 10.5.2 and it will not load. The computer goes to the apple with the pinwheel, then goes to a bluescreen but no further (with the pinwheel coming up for a little bit then going away). I have reset the ram, and tried to start it in safemode, single user, and verbose, but it won't do anything different. I am running bootcamp and the windows section works fine. But the mac section responds the same way everytime.

  • MacBook won't load past the white startup screen.

I'm going to start off by saying I'm a huge idiot.
My MacBook was being sluggish last night, so I (impatiently) force-turned it off. Whenever I turn it back on, I get stuck at the white screen for about 10 minutes and the Apple logo never loads. I must've made the harddrive corrupt by turning it off while it was doing some important background work.
Is there any way I can fix this? The data on there isn't important as I have my course work backed up, I just need it up and running for class tomorrow. Can I wipe the harddrive and do a clean install somehow?
    Hopefully someone can help.
Edit: I managed to open Disc Utility with my Mac OS X 10.6 disc, and I can't even see my harddrive located anywhere.

Sorry for the double post, but I can no longer edit the main one.
I heard the most gut-wrenching sound when I held "Alt" to get to my partition, so I opened my MacBook up, removed the harddrive and reinserted it. I'm not sure if it was the harddrive that produced the noise, or the installation disc.
Now I can see my Harddrive located in Disk Utility

My Harddrive is fried and I need to look for a replacement. Could anyone point me in the right direction? My Macbook is really old I've even forgotten the type! It's a Black MacBook from around 2006 or 7 is my best guess. What harddrive would fit?

  • Macbook won't load past white screen, tried everything.

    Hi all,
I've tried everything I've come across to get my Macbook running again. Tried booting into safe mode, didnt work, tried fixing using fsck in single-user mode, fsck said it worked but still wouldn't boot! Even tried verbose mode but came across disk0s2 I/O error.
Can anyone help me out, it loads up to the white screen with the grey apple logo and the loading wheel goes round and round but goes no where.
Working on Mac OS X but forget exactly which one.

Hi, I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, the problem ended up being my hard drive had crashed on my macbook. You should take it to your nearest Genius Bar, they will check and see if thats the problem for free, fixing however if it is that can get expensive, of course thats according to a very poor college student, It was about 220 or so. but if you do find out its the HDD you could always just go buy one and instal it yourself, I hear it not that hard to do acutally. Good luck!

  • MacBook won't load Internet on wireless but works with ethernet

My macbook wont load any web pages. It is connected to my wifi network and it says my Internet connection is good under my network settings. All my other devices on the network have no issues (ipad2, 2-iPhone 4's and 2-PS3s). Also when I connect my MacBook to my router with an Ethernet cable it loads any and all web pages instantly. I also tried installing Firefox thinking it may have been an issue with safari. No luck there. The issue was intermittent at first and would require I restart my computer/router and then issue would be corrected. Now the internet wont load any pages at all. I also tried zapping the PRAM, flushing the DNS cache, removing files from the system config folder under Library/Preferences/system configuration and a few other things I can't exactly remember. My MacBook is up to date, my routers firmware is up to date. I even tried tethering my MacBook to my iPhone via wireless Internet and still could not load any websites. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Try this, might or might not work depending on the issue.
    Turn off your wifi.
Go to your network preference, click on advance, the you will see the name of your network (router's name), delete that.
Now try to detect it again with your MB's wifi.  You have to re enter your password if you have one.
See if that solves your problem.

i can see my target drive on my host desktop....
omg and when i clicc on my targe drive i see all my old folders!!! yay!! that means my old files arent lost forever!
the only problem is when i try to access the folders i get the colored pinwheel
and its very slow..... nothin will load and then my host computer freezes and i have to forcequit...i didnt even get to begin transferring the files before the host computer would freeze....as this would happen the fans on the target computer would be whirring up and the floating firewire logo screensaver on the target computer would also stop floating from left to right..
    what gives?

  • Macbook won't load websites...extremely slow.

I have a macbook os x.  A few days ago it started to not load certain websites.  It takes well over 15 mins for some (such as Google Yahoo and Facebook, to name a few that Ive noticed), Almost like a really bad dial up connection!! When I attempt to go to these sites it acts as if it is loading the pages.  But it takes forever and loads way too slow.  The blue bar highlights as if it's loading.  But it could take Yahoo or any of the others 15 mins to load completely but I'm not sure becasue I've never waited long enough.  Other websites have no problem.   No other computer in the house is having this problem.  (They are all Windows OS, one is a pc and the others two are laptops)

  • MacBook won't load past the gray apple screen, what do I do?

A few months ago my cat peed on my computer and despite the battery no longer working the computer its self continued working fine after letting it sit a few days.
A few weeks ago I accidentally unplugged it form the wall forcefully turning it off, when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't go past the gray apple logo with the spinning pinwheel.
I've tried to troubleshooting it numerous times but even after letting it safe boot all night I came to no avail.
All the suggestions I've gotten on other sites say I sould re-install the OSX server, the problem being I don't know how, or which OSX I have, they also say the memory will probably be erased, I can't have this happen because I have many things I wrote on there that I have no where else. I bought this laptop in the first few days of 2009.
What do I do without erasing the memory?

    Hello,
Could someone help me, please? I apologize for the long message but I want to be as detailed as possible.
My MacBook (purchased early 2006, white 13", upgraded to Leopard about a year ago with no problems until now) will not boot past the grey screen and spinning wheel.
Here' are the list of 6 steps I've followed so far and still is not working. Oh, and I do not have any peripherals attached to my MacBook:
    1. Reboot in Safe Mode: tried pressing down the Shift key before the powering up sound AND after the sound. Could not get into Safe Mode. Did this several times, holding the Shift key for as much as a minute or two. Nothing but grey screen and spinning wheel.
    2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM: CMDR+POption: Computer restarted but still goes into Grey Screen, spinning wheel and stays there forever.
    3. CMD +S: I read this online. Gave me a black screen with a lot of information, but I don't know how to read the computer jargon, let alone know what to do with said info.
    4. Disk Utility Repair Disk : Inserted my Leopard install disk. Went to Utility Disk. Performed a Repair Disk and I did get two error messages, something related to id 70000452 should be id 70000450 ( I'm sorry to say I cannot remember the exact error messages). But it showed as repaired. When I did a 2nd Repair Disk, I got the message that the volume appears to be OK. Turned off and on again, nothing but grey screen and wheel.
    5. Disk Utility Repair Disk Permissions: got several error messages and this time some could not be repaired:
    -Permissions differ on system/library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents.... should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are lrw-rw-r--
I got this about 4 times.
-Permissions differ on System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/a/Resources/ DiskManagementTool has been modified and will not be repaired.
-Permissions differ on System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resou rces/Locum has been modified and will not be repaired.
-SIUD file has been modified and cannot be repaired also shows twice.
I've read that these messages can be ignored. Is this true? I verified permissions after that, rebooted and still the same grey screen and wheel.
    6. FINALLY: I tried to hook a FireWire from my notebook to my sis, iMac, and see if my HD shows up on hers so I can try to copy and save my pics and music. I was then planning to Erase and Reinstall. But my HD doesn't show up. I turned off both Macs and turned on, pressing T on my Notebook so it acts as a drive, but nothing shows up on my sis iMac. What am I doing wrong here?
And if it cannot be repaired, what do I do?
I'm an amateur photographer and would like to save all my pics, as well as my iTunes music. Much of everything else is just docs, and I think I backed the docs up, but not iTunes or the pics lately (not enough memory available in my flash drive). It also means I do not have a lot of RAM available (I know, I should've bought an external hard drive :o) to perform an Archive and Install.
Can I save my pics and music? Is it all lost? Help please?
    Thanks
    Andy

  • HT201257 Yosemite update , now MacBook won't load

Did Yosemite update on my MacBook Pro and now my fans are constant and I get a grey password screen, I enter my password and everything leads really slowly then I get a DMS launch error box come up then it freezes . Help driving me mad !!!!

Start you MacBook Pro with the original DVD that came with the MacBook Pro and run disk utility on your hard drive to repair it, also repair your permissions.

  • OS won't load up past white loading screen

    Hi everyone,
So since last night my MacBook won't load up past the white loading screen with the apple and the spinning load thing... I last used it 4 days ago, and it was running fairly slowly, especially the login screen (ie after sleeping it would take a good minute or so to bring up the login box...), as I was away for the weekend (happy new year to everyone by the way!) I decided to turn it off and not take it with me. Unfortunately when I got back last night i was hit by the problem described above. I tried a safe boot but that made no difference, after the safe boot bar was complete the white screen (with the apple and the loading thing) continued...
My MacBook is a 13" black beauty from June 2007, and currently runs snow leopard. I don't have a partition with with windows or anything like that.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Try booting from your install disc while holding down the C key so you can run Disk Utility.
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
While you have the Disk Utility window open, check Capacity & Available at the bottom of the window. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
And S.M.A.R.T. status should say Verified.

  • All Google related sites won't load

    MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Early 2011
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8.3
I started having this problem Thursday, and I haven't been able to solve it since.
My macbook won't load any google related webpages, but it works with any other webpage I've ever visited.
iTunes Store and Mac AppStore are also having issues ( With iTunes Store giving me -50 error code).
My Macbook is up-to-date, with the latest software installed as of Thursday.
I also own a HP DeskPC running Windows 8 and it loads google and google-related webpages completely.
I have Safari and just uninstalled Chrome thinking reinstalling would solve the problem. Neither one of the browsers was able to open Google and it's sites.
Measuring my computer knowledge from 1 to 10, I'd say from 5-6.
Ask any questions you'd like and I'll try to answer them, and please help me.

Double-click the line of text below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    www.google.com
Launch the Network Utility application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
Note: Some browsers and mail clients will automatically complete a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

I have a MacBook Air 2011, running Lion 10.7.2, and Safari won't load any pages. Firefox loads everything just fine. What's going on?

d Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari
    application and the WebKit framework
was that before the 10.4.6 combo was applied?
Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
What version of osx is on your install disks?
Not sure, I'll have to check them.
I'd like to avoid a archive & install, but I'm beginning to think it's my only remaining option.

  • Certain web sites won't load on any browser on Macbook Pro

Starting yesterday certain web sites won't load on any browser (Safari or Chrome). These include sites like the New England Journal of Medicine, Washington Post, and English Bulldog News. I get an error message in Safari that the server took too long to respond and in Chrome I get a connection timeout error message. I updated Adobe Flash with a clean install as I was unable to update using the standard method due to connection timeout. That restored my access to YouTube video but today it takes ~2 minutes to load a YT video. Web sites are loading fine on my phone and household PCs.
Not sure if it is notable that my internet loading capacity has been very slow for some time. I worked with the internet company to increase the network speed but my computer has not seen benefit. No problems on the PCs in our house but my Macbook very frequently gets partially "kicked-off" the network as indicated by yellow lights seen next to the "internet" and "server" items in my Network Diagnostics utility.
I looked at old threads and ran EtreCheck (see results copied below) as was recommended to another user several months ago, but would appreciate any thoughts about where to go from here. Could it be malware? Or just a classic case of operator error? Here are the EtreCheck "red" items extracted from the full report below:
