MacBook won't open websites

Hi guys, got a problem here.
Today I was using safari on my macbook and suddenly the webpages stopped opening. The airport detects my home wireless connection, logs on but the websites won't open. I have restarted my mac, tried problem detecting (says everything is fine), restarted my router, but I still can't do anything. The wierdest thing is all my other computers and iphone connect just fine with the same connection.
What can I do??? It was working just fine and suddenly just stopped. Ethernet is working fine...
Help please!

did you just upgrade to 10.5.3??
did it used to work on 10.5.2?
I would check your system.log;
Go to System Profiler,
Select Software, Logs
Select "system.log" from the right panel, scroll all the way to the bottom,
if you see a bunch of kernal errors like (Beacon Lost) that is your problem.
At 10.5.3 they broke the macbook airport card it no longer sees the wireless router beacon.
If you roll back to 10.5.2 from the Leopard DVD it should work again. There is NO fix from Apple, for this to my understanding. I was hoping for a Aiport Broadcom firmware update or a patch but 10.5.4 came out a week later, nothing, same problem persists, the other day 10.5.5 came out, maybe by 10.5.96 they will fix it. Or someone will hack it back to the airport drivers used in 10.5.2.
This problem is annoying as **** and Apple is doing nothing about it. You can't take your Macbook to Starbucks or any other place and connect to their network, might as well drag out your old Toshiba with Ubuntu and take it.

  • I just backed up my photos by copying my iPhoto Library onto an external drive. Now the Library on my MacBook won't open. I can only open the photos if the external is plugged in. How can I resolve this issue?

I just backed up my photos by copying my iPhoto Library onto an external drive. Now the Library on my MacBook won't open. I can only open the photos if the external is plugged in. How can I resolve this issue?

    Exactly what did you do?
    The correct steps are
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
My guess is that that you have not switched iphoto to use the external drive yet - opttion launch and select libary

  • Safari won't  open websites on hotel network in korea, but other macs will

I'm in South Korea on business and am staying at a hotel with free wireless. I'm the only person here that can't get my computer to work correctly. I'm actually writing this from a mac computer using safari. I have tried both Safari and firefox on my mac and the pages act like they will load and show about 25% of the blue bar loading, but it never finishes. I don't get an error message, just nothing finishes.
In america the mac airport seems to work fine but occasionally when I go to a hotel or am at the airport I have problems getting the "terms of agreement" page to load. Both Safari and Firefox will try to load my home page unsuccessfully, but if I load the name of the network in the root directory it will go to that page and let me "accept the terms". RDU airport is a good example. When I go in the skyclub my pages won't load, even if I have been there before. I have to go the root directory and put in either "delta.com" or tmobile.com" (the name of the network is tmobile). I have had the same problem at hotels I have stayed at, but have always managed to make it work. Well not this time!
I'm trying to think of questions you might have. It says I'm connected to the network, it gives an ip address. Again, I'm travelling with 20 people and they are not having any troubles. I even checked my network and safari settings against this computer I'm using and everything appears to be the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    HI,
Since both browsers are effected, make sure there is enough free disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Launch Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click
"Change Settings" next to Proxies. That will prompt the System Preferences / Proxies panel.
Under: Select a protocol to configure: Make sure none of the boxes are selected.
    Relaunch Safari.
Also, try changing the Airport channel. Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select Airport on the left, and then click Manual Setup.
Click AirPort in the menu, then click Wireless tab.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu, click Update. Try accessing the web again.
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart your Mac.

  • MacBook won't open pdf files with Adobe Acrobat Reader

I just bought a 13" MacBook and transferred everything from my 12" PowerBook to the MacBook. I just tried to open a file saved with Adobe and I get the following message:
You cannot open the application “Adobe Reader” because it is not supported on this architecture.
    Any suggestions?

Yep you need Adobe Reader for Intel. Actually you don't even need that. You could use Preview to view .pdf's but I always use Reader. Don't really know why

  • File created in 6.5.2 on MacBook won't open in 6.5.2 on iMac

Nothing I create on my MacBook in any of the iWork apps will open in the same version on my iMac.
Yosemite on both computers, same software versions on both computers. Anyone else having these issues?

I forgot to delete my quicktime704.pkg file before I ran the 7.0 reinstall. Once I did that, the 7.0 and 6.5 reinstalls worked!

  • My macbook won't open any .exe files! help!

Whenever I download an .exe file, my macbook automatically opens it with my photoshop cs3 program--it's really irritating me because many programs that I NEED (for school and such) are .exe files and I can't figure out which application to use to open it.
    Any suggestions?

.exe files are Windows applications with a few exceptions that are self-extracting compressed files. You'll need to be running Windows in your system, via a virtualization system (such as Parallels Workstation or VMWare Fusion) or BootCamp to use Windows applications.

  • New keynote made on macbook won't open on ipad

I upgraded the keynote on my late 2013 macbook retina and on both my ipad (latest version) and my iphone 5s. I created a new keynote today and saved it to icloud. I can open the keynote on my iphone, but it will not open on my ipad. I can see the file, but it is grey and will not open. I've deleted keynote off the ipad and reinstalled it. I've duplicated the keynote on my macbook and gave it a new name and saved it to icloud with the new name and now both files are grey.
    Please help.

    LadyC,
Quit/Force Quit Calendar, then paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Next open the Calendars and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
Also open the Preferences Folder in the same Library, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.

  • My macbook won't open firefox pdf files

About a week ago, my macbook quit opening internet pdf files.  I checked for new software updates but it hasen't worked.  Please help!!!  No error message shows up, just a blank screen.

    Hi...
    Quit Firefox.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen, click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF browser plugin (or just PDF browser plugin) from the Internet Plug-Ins folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Firefox. See if that worked...

  • Macbook won't load websites...extremely slow.

I have a macbook os x.  A few days ago it started to not load certain websites.  It takes well over 15 mins for some (such as Google Yahoo and Facebook, to name a few that Ive noticed), Almost like a really bad dial up connection!! When I attempt to go to these sites it acts as if it is loading the pages.  But it takes forever and loads way too slow.  The blue bar highlights as if it's loading.  But it could take Yahoo or any of the others 15 mins to load completely but I'm not sure becasue I've never waited long enough.  Other websites have no problem.   No other computer in the house is having this problem.  (They are all Windows OS, one is a pc and the others two are laptops)

  • Mail on MacBook won't open hyperlinks behind mail.

After updating to Yosemite 10.10.2 I no longer can open hyperlinks behind Mail. I can open them by clicking on them which takes me directly to the web page, however, some emails have multiple links which I wish to open without leaving Mail first. Prior to the OS upgrade this problem would occur with a few emails but now it happens with all emails.

  • My Macbook won't open .jar files

My daughter wants to set up a server on mine craft but every time she opens the .jar file it presents this message. On safari or chrome, I've looked at several different boards and help pages but none of it makes much sense. Could someone please help?

The security built into your Mac is preventing you from doing this. In order to launch the Minecraft Server, try and launch it and get the error dialog above, and click the "OK" button. Then go into "System Preferences..." by hitting the Apple logo in the upper right of the screen, and then go into "Security & Privacy". You will see this screen:
Hit the button "Open Anyway" to open theMinecraft server jar (a dialog will come up, hit "open"). Once you do this that .jar file will now always open with no prompting. You can also change this behavior by twiddling with the radio buttons above to select "Mac App Store" or "Mac App Store and Identified developers" or "Anywhere". As you can see I have it set to "Mac App Store" and I will choose on a case by case basis; this is safest.
Minecraft will create a bunch of files in the directory in which the .jar file is placed, I would recommend creating a new directory and moving the .jar file there before starting it. The most imporant of these is the "server.properties" file, it is here that your daughter can change how this game behaves. Additionally, by invoking mincraft this way you allowcate the default amount of memory to the server, this may or may not be enough. There are reams of tutorials on how to tweek Minecraft server elsewhere on the web, enjoy!
    Good Luck!
