Macbook won't recognise maximum resolution of 32" Panasonic HDTV

My white Macbook (2007, 2.13GHz, 2GB RAM) will only output 1400x1050 to my Full HD HDTV (a Panasonic TH-32LZ80, Japanese model). Everything looks stretched... I'd like to use it as I intended at 1920x1080! I tried messing with SwitchresX in a novice way and I succeeded only in getting zero output from the monitor when I tried making a custom 60Hz refresh 1920x1080 resolution
Any help? I've outputted what SwitchresX has to say about my monitor below, not that it seems very useful...

I was connecting it through VGA when I posted the details above. Someone said it would be better to try it through HDMI so I'm just waiting for my Mini DVI-to-HDMI adapter to come through the mail before I give this another bash.
@BSteely: Thanks for your response. The "zero output" I was getting was from the same as the timing parameters above except I put 1920 in the horizontal box and 1080 in the vertical box. Subsequent reading around has led me to believe there was no way it was ever going to be that simple!

  • Resolution jumps with Panasonic HDTV

Since buying my Mac mini in December 09 I've been using a Panasonic HDTV (TX-L37G15B) as my monitor. With the Mini DisplayPort-DVI adaptor and then a DVI-HDMI cable into the TV everything was set up in perfect HD. The Mac detected the TV and chose 1080p without needing to adjust anything.
Since the 2009 Aluminium Keyboard Firmware Update on 13/02/2010 my Mac will no longer hold it's resolution. Without warning it will jump to an alternate resolution but still show 1080p in the Display Settings.
I can change the resolution to another and back to 1080p and it will hold for a short time and then once again jumps/stretches to the wrong size. Overscan is turned off and I've tried setting the resolution in Safe Mode with little affect.
Would using the Mini DVI Port help matters?
    Any info would help, thanks,
    Chris

Try a couple of troubleshooting things.
Repair the Disk Permissions with Disk Utility in Apps/Utilities. Highlight your startup volume to the left and in the First Aid pane to the right press the Repair Permissions button.
Reset PRAM. Restart your Mac with a wired USB keyboard attached and immediately press & hold the CommandOption+PR keys. After you hear a second startup chime release all of the keys and let the Mac start normally.

  • External monitor for MacBook Pro won't give maximum resolution

I have a MacBook Pro and connected a new 30 inch HP LP3065 with a dual link DVI cable and the highest resolution I can get is 1280 X 800. It should be much higher, at least 1920 X 1200 but I think even higher than that.
I tested the monitor with a G4 laptop (because I didn't have the DVI adapter yet) and it worked fine.
I also tried closing the MacBook Pro (clamshell mode) and reducing the resolution on that screen and still the best I get is 1280 X 800.

    I'm wondering if I need this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A
instead of the mini display port to DVI adapter I bought.

  • Macbook won't recognised slipstreamed XP sp2 disc

I have an XP disc with sp1, and followed instructions on how to create a combined disc with service pack 2. This disc is not recognised by Boot Camp, although it is on my desktop pc. Anyone know why this may be?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I think it is possible that the CD you burned on your PC (right?) is not recognized by the DVD drive in your Macbook.
The last time I installed Windows XP on my colleague's Macbook I did not encounter such a problem. Perhaps you can try to burn another CD using another brand of blank CD-R?

  • My macbook won't recognise any usb devices i plug in (iPod, camera etc). help!

An issue with USB can be almost anything.  Check this article from Apple, as it might help you diagnose the problem.

  • Whats the maximum resolution resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

whats the maximum resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

I don't know where you found 1920x1080, but that isn't the max. The INTERNAL display can even support more than that.
The maximum resolution is really hardware based, and since Thunderbolt 2 has a Mini displayport connector (Mini Displayport 1.2), the max resolution for Mini Displayport is 4k (3840x2160).
PLEASE NOTE: Not all adapters can support that resolution, most monitors that can run 4k @60Hz have Displayport 1.2 (The most recent revision), Mini Displayport 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. DVI dual link can run 4k, but only 24-30Hz, depending on the monitor.
    Hope this helps!!

  • I've just bought a MacBook Pro The system won't recognise the serial number even tho I've typed it in carefully several times The helpline is closed Any ideas?

I've just bought a MacBook Pro The system won't recognise the serial number which I've copied very carefully several times from the underside of the computer
The helpline is closed Any ideas? I don't know what the operating system is - how do I find that out?

What are you trying to do?
The operating system can be found by going to the Apple menu and selecting "About this Mac"
Under "Mac OS X" should be the Version 10.6.x, clicking Software Update will update the operating system via the internet.

Sorry I should have said that I took my macbook and the external hard drive into the mac store today.
I have booked an appoitment to go into to see them again tomorrow, if they cant get it to work.
It's possible is the PC drive is formatted NTFS by Windows.
Mac's can't read NTFS format natively, third party software has to be installed on your Mac.
The third party NTFS software could be installed on all the Apple Store computers and not all the Genius Folks might not be aware of this.

If it's defective hardware, I don't blame you.
My suggestion is to have the Genius Folks transfer your PC data using one of their Mac's with the NTFS software installed. Then have them re-format your drive for your Mac so you can continue to use it.
You can also choose to install the NTFS software, that might be what your problem really is.
    Hope this helps.

  • My Macbook Pro won't recognise and/or detect my Epson WF-5320 Printer anymore.

I have a new Epson WF-3520 series printer that when first purchased and set up according to the guide connected perfectly with my Macbook Pro. Eventually, when I went to print a document, my Mac would tell me the printer was not connected. I had restored the printers default settings and had set up the printer as first purchased, which lead to it to work again. However, over time it decided not to connect again. Now when I attempt to install the printer's connection with my Macbook, it tells me connection failed. Whenever I go to Syste Preferences > Print & Scan > then click the "+" button to add my printer (as I have read this suggestion on other forums for this particular problem) my Macbook will not recognise any nearby printers at all. Are there any detailed step by step suggestions on how to fix this problem? It is very inconvenient as I need documents printed for university and I can't keep affording to print at public printing stations. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, Thank you!
Also, I do not have a USB connection that could connect the printer and laptop together.. would this be an issue? As the printer is wireless.

I also have this problem. My MacBook alays has trouble recognizing HP printers and scanners and I allways have to restart programs and reboot the laptop in order to scan with HP scanners.
However with the C4480 it just does not work it doesn't seem to matter how many times I reboot.
HP Products suck on the Mac. And tech support doesn't seem to have any answers.

  • My macbook pro 2012 won't recognise my flash drive

I have just brought a Macbook Pro Retina and i am trying to transport documents from my P.C via a flash drive, but the macbook will not recognise the flash drive? its work in my husbands mac but not this one??? Also outlook will not let me add an account? apple care cant help with that one either????

Did you format the USB flash drive on your Mac in a Windows format that both will read and write? And you say that it works on your husbands Mac? The problem is probably your USB 3.0 port. There have been some issues with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 models. Some were solved by the July 18th Software Update, some may be solved with the release of Mountain Lion (10.8) today. In any case, try the drive on the right USB port to see if it will read. Also make sure that you have all Software Updates.
I'm not sure why you're not able to add an account in Outlook. I use Outlook and have had few problems with it. I might suggest that you go under the Help menu in Outlook and Check for Updates. There have been two in the past couple of months. If that doesn't help, try the Outlook for Mac users forum at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoutlook.
    Good luck,

  • Macbook pro now won't recognise airport express

    Hi
I have been using my macbook pro (10.5.8) and airport express together with no problems for years and suddenly my macbook is not recognising the airport. Luckily I have a macbook air in the house and there is no problems with that so I am able to access the internet and ask this question!
Just before it happened, the battery on my macbook pro had run down as it was left unplugged - could this be why? And does anyone know how to fix it? I have restarted the computer twice but no good.
Since my iphone and macbook air are both running effectively off the airport network, i can assume the problem is with the macbook pro and not the airport, right?
    thanks

"...i can assume the problem is with the macbook pro and not the airport, right?"
Perhaps, but what I do is to reset the AE and then set it up from the MBP.

What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter?

    Hey guys,
I found out an answer by myself...
The missing link : the MacBook Pro needs to be powered... as in you need to plug the charger in...
In conclusion, you simply plug everything, turn on the MacBook Pro, close the lid, and there you go !
