Macbook won't recognize microsoft office disc

Macbook (2007) just got a new battery and upgrade on operating system. I went to put microsoft office back on it & it's not reading the disc, just pops it back out.
I tried putting a music CD in the drive and it works. I need office on this computer or I wouldn't have spent the $ on a new battery...
Help.

Office is on a DVD and cd and dvd use separate lasers. Try a different dvd to see if it reads. Your optical drive may have failed. You can try resetting the SMC and PRAM.
To reset the smc
Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

  • MacBook won't recognize disc

I've got a Windows Installer MSDN disc that I'm trying to use to install XP with, but my MacBook won't recognize the disc. When I put the disc in, I get the error message
"The disc you inserted is not readable by this computer."
It works fine on my PC, and most discs usually at least pop up on the desktop. What would the problem be?

So you're essentially trying to install the XP operating system on your Mac?
You first need to install Boot Camp or Parallels and partition your drive, allowing for there to be a drive to install windows on.
During that partitioning process, it eventually prompts to insert the installation disc.

update to my original post:  after searching since for the past 10 days - I did want to pass along to others with an iphone calendar sync problem the following resource:
Mac OS X: Resetting the SyncServices folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
This is the preferred solution for problems with sync with calendar and other apps between iphone and MaciOS.  This did solve the problem which developed that no items from iCal were copying to Iphone, such as new calendars I would add, but the original problem has not been fixed by this reset.

  • ? MacBook won't recognize external disc drive

My MacBook's internal disc drive quit, so I'm trying an external Samsung SE-208 slim portable DVD writer.   It worked once, but now the mac won't recognize it.  I tried a DVD switcher app - no luck.  The Samsung plugs into the USB port, starts up OK then disappears from itunes, the desktop, Finder - It's gone. Can I completely disable the internal disc drive?  Would that help?  I appreciate ANY help.   I'm not skilled at these things so you need to spoon feed me.  thanks

  • Macbook won't recognize iphone in itunes

My macbook (running os x 10.5.8) will not recognize my iphone 4s (ios 8.1.2) in itunes (version 10). I have read that some people were able to download Snow Leopard and then upgrade to the newer version of itunes, which will then recognize the iphone. However, I do not want to purchase Snow Leopard unless I am CERTAIN that I will be able to put it on my computer and have itunes recognize my iphone again. Thank you for any help!

Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In the event that you need to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 or above, you won't be able to use PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008 afterwards.

  • MacBook Won't recognize cameras

I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Mavericks 10.9.5. Everything is freshly updated and no other performance issues with the new machine.
The computer won't recognize either of my cameras, neither a Nikon Coolpix S8100 nor my new Nikon D810 when connected via the USB cable.
No program will recognize the cameras being connected: not iPhoto, Nikon ViewNX2, nor Image Capture---all three latest versions. I have tried selecting  the preferences to have either iPhoto or View NX2 open when the camera is connected but it still doesn't work.
I can take the SD card out of the Coolpix and the MBP will read it in the built in card reader and I can manually drag files into both iPhoto and ViewNX2. I don't have a flash card reader for the Nikon D810.
My two drives for backups and photo storage connect and run perfectly
I had no problem with my old MBP 15 running Snow Leopard recognizing both cameras.
    Anyone else had this problem?

  • 13" Macbook Pro compatibility with Microsoft Office

I just purchased a 13" Macbook Pro.  Can I load Microsoft Office 2007 professional on this device?

Not unless you run Windows. Office 2007 is a Windows suite. For the Mac you need to purchase Office 2011 for Mac OS X - www.mactopia.com.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • OS X 10.6.8 was playing DVD now won't recognize store bought discs.  Normal Discs no HD and the same discs work on imac.  Any thoughts?  Is there a patch or a way to reload possibly or a system utility that I can run?  Thanks anyone

I don't know what changed but it just won't recognize a disc any more.  The DVD player itself seems to open up, but the disc just spins in the case and after 20 seconds it spit it back out like nothing ever happened.  The same disc plays fine on the imac.

  • Macbook won't boot from install discs

I've got a Macbook C2D 2ghz superdrive from early 2007. It came with OS 10.4.8 discs (grey). Recently, the hard drive died (click, click, click). So I had to replace it with another HD, a Hitachi 160gb. I installed the hard drive, inserted the install disc 1, and powered up the system. Holding down the option key I get the grey screen and nothing happens for a long time, then the drive kicks out the install disc.
Being a PC guy primarily, I pulled out a copy of Windows XP and was able to quickly boot off that disc, partition the hard drive (>32gb fat32) and install Windows XP. So I know the hard drive works and I know the superdrive works. Process of elimination causes me to suspect the MacBook install discs (which aren't scratched or damaged).
So why can't I get the macbook to boot off the 10.4.8 install discs that came with it? Why won't the original install discs allow me to boot off of them? Is there a simple little trick that I am missing?
Remember, I had a dead hard drive so I have no backup hard drive with OS X on it. This is not a hard drive swap or a hard drive upgrade, just a pure replacement of a dead drive. I do have several external drives available to me, but none have OS X installed on them.
As for background, I am primarily a WinTel guy. I've been building computers from scratch for the last 20+ years. I also worked as a PC Tech back in the day so I've probably assembled or repaired in excess of a 1000 computers, so I'm very hardware knowledgable. However, I have a PC brain, not a MAC brain. Maybe it is just my PC logic that erroneously assumes that these install discs are bootable in the Mac world. Hopefully that isn't the case.

I figured it out, crappy discs or crappy hardware is the problem. On a hunch, I tried to see if I could clone the Apple install dvd's on one of my PC's. Since I didn't know the format of the install discs, I was unsure that would work. I cloned the install discs using Nero Burning Rom and then tried booting off the cheap Ritek dvdr's.
Guess what? The cheap Riteks work with the Apple superdrive, but Apple's own pressed cd's will not! Either Apple has crappy install media (unlikely given my PC read them fine), or the Superdrive is garbage quality hardware. I'm forgiving for hardware failures, heck I seem to eat hard drives because of my audio editing. However, I've rarely ever used the rom drive on this laptop since I do all my work with external hard drives.
I guess I wouldn't be so mad if it weren't for the Apple smugness in their superiority. It's a nice, small, lightweight laptop that got me through my last year of college (older student) with an absolutely horrid keyboard. I just expected more from the hardware given the 40% premium I paid over a comparable WinTel laptop.

  • Macbook won't recognize

I recently got an ipod 4 from a friend. I have a macbook with snow leopard and it won't recognize the ipod. What do I do?

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Do not omit the Additional Action paragraph since it only applies to Snow Leopard.
Make sure you have iTunes version 11 on the computer and that you have OSX 10.6.8 installed on the Mac.

Does it save in a .doc file? I need Microsoft office for work...I dont want to use bootcamp...if I go to a mac, I want to stay and learn mac. Thanks!

Amy: My fiancee is a teacher (calculus) and uses her Mac for everything. She runs Windows with vmWare for any PC-only software she gets from her school (ie. Gradequick, Geometer Sketchpad, etc.) because they only give her Windows software. Unfortunately, some school districts are stingy when it comes to Mac-compatible or Mac-only software, so running Windows as an "application" solves that problem quite well.
