My MacBook won't start properly.  It seems to run, but the screen won't light.  I suspect the cause is a power surge due to faulty wiring in my apartment.  Is this the kind of thing that can typically be repaired, and if so, at what price?

you need to bring it somewhere so it can be determined exactly what is wrong with it and then an estimate can be provided.

My iPhone has suddenly stopped working. It now says the battery is dying and to charge it. After charging it for over an hour, there is no change. The power won't come on, and I am left with a blank screen advising me to plug my phone into the charger.

Try different USB Cable, try different Charger. Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. If still problem and you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, most likely it could be battery or charging port assembly that need replacement.

  • HT201401 My iPhone 4 vibrated for about a minutes and is now unresponsive with a black screen. I don't know if it's on or off. What do I do?

This morning I used my iPhone very well, received and made a few calls. I placed my phone on the bed and started to use my iPad. I then heard the phone vibrating and the phone screen was black. I tried pressing the home button but that didn't stop it. I tried to turn off the phone but that didn't stop it. It vibrated for about a minute non-stop. When it finally stopped, my phone looked as if it was turned off...black screen and not responding to anything. I tried to turn it on but nothing. The battery was fully charged last night to that is not the issue. What do I do? Please help me.

No problem just happy you got it working again

  • Trying to connect my minidisplay macbook pro to the hmdi cable and vizio. Just goes to black screen

Restart the Macbook and while it's restarting, hold down Command + Option + P + R and hold them down until the computer restarts twice. Hope this helps!

  • Macbook won't start

Macbook won't start up.  Sounds like disc drive is spinning but screen remains dark as though startup file is not booting.

Did you also try reset of NVRAM/PRAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
When you tried the Command + Opt + P + R keys on restart, held almost
immediately and through the time period it should chime on startup, did
you keep holding those keys down, so as to force it to repeat the chime?
You should do this (if possible to tell) through Three chimes, before you
let those keys go; that would be indicative of a NVRAM/PRAM reset.
Aside from the details and troubleshooting processes in the SMC reset
article from Apple Support, that could shed some light on the issue, if
these were done in their subscribed order before finally trying the SMC.
Have you tried System Management Controller (SMC) reset more than once?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964  {and those other troubleshooting bits}
Depending on which MacBook you have, the details may vary; with some
you could try several items not possible with a later model, such as a hard
reset of the computer (remove battery, hold power button, etc) and other
details I am not going into now... Here's something that worked for this one:
•My MacBook won't boot, no start chime, just DVD spinning sound:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/6271/My+MacBook+won%27t+boot,+no+start+chime, +just+the+DVD+spinning+sound.
There are some ideas there which may help. At least as far as trouble-
shooting. If you have access to an Apple Store with Genius Bar in the
USA or Canada, you could call ahead for an appointment to have one
of their staff genius tech persons diagnose and troubleshoot this issue.
In other locations, there may be fees charged to accommodate services.
Anyway, I an not certain what to suggest next.
Did you try booting from the Snow Leopard DVD?
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Please help...Macbook won't start up!

    All,
I need help with my Macbook because it won't turn on. A few nights ago it was shut down, but before completely turning off it stuck on a grey/white screen. The keys were unresponsive and only gave the "bell" sound when pressed. I turned it off by keeping the power button depressed.
Upon trying to switch it on last night, it loads up withthe apple symbol and the pinwheel but then goes to a grey screen reading "You need to restart your machine. Press and hold the power button or press the reset button". I tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM which did nothing.
I don't know much about Mac's but I am able to start it in safe mode, but what comes up doesn't mean a lot to me. it then stops and stalls whilst still with the black screen and white writing...?
Will I have to start with the disk utility etc?
Please, all advice will be very helpful!
    Thanks

    Hi
The "You need to restart your computer" message indicates a kernel panic, which often points to a hardware fault (often a RAM fault).
Can you reboot the computer from the original installation disk? (Start the computer, insert the disk, force-reboot it again, hold down the C key. If that doesn't work, reboot and hold down the Option key, and then choose the DVD as a startup source. If it loads to the installation screen, try running DIsk Utility from the Utilities menu - run Repair Disk and Repair Permissions. Let us know if you see any errors (from the Repair Disk routine).
Have you upgraded the RAM at all? If so, try removing the new RAM and leaving (or replacing with) the old RAM.
Is your Macbook still under warranty?
Do you have backups of your files?
    Matt

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

MacBook won't start up it shows the apple logo and just keeps the "wheel" spinning

Usually means that critical system files are corrupted. Start by:
Boot into Safe Mode if possible. If it boots into safe mode, then restart the computer to see if it will boot normally. Otherwise, reinstall OS X. Unfortunately, you've not provided any information in your profile about what version of OS X you have installed.

  • MacBook Won't Start and Hard Drive Full

My daughter's MacBook won't start up completely.  It tells me to power off and power on again.  I tried restarting using my Snow Leopard DVD and it won't let me load, re-install or restore because it says her hard drive is 100% full.  Not sure how it got full and not sure how to get computer working again with no room on hard drive.  Help please.

With MacBooks it's only the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody that don't have FireWire. Which one is hers?
You can get a larger hard drive (sounds like she needs one) and an external case. Put the larger hard drive in the MacBook and do a fresh install of the Operating System and the old hard drive in the external case.
For a hard drive try Newegg.com. For larger drives go to the left hand side.  http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=380&name=Laptop-Hard-Dr ives&Order=PRICE

  • Macbook won't start up!?!

After turning on my macbook pro for only the second time it will not start up properly. It will only display the loading screen with the apple logo and the loading wheel icon. After i bought it i installed Microsoft office and t-mobile mobile broadband which both worked fine. I also tried to set up an external hardrive but it would not open the installation program. Because of this i then shutdown the macbook and unplugged the hard-drive. The day after i turned it on for the second time only for this problem to occur!
    Please help!

Hi, there I seem to have the excat same problem as you, my computer worked fine still i installed mobile t broadband. I came home last night, knocked my computer slighty but it worked fine still today when i tried to get the internet back on my computer and it did not work. I uninstalled the t mobile to then get a notice saying i could not enter network preferences, so i restarted and now all i get is the apple and spinining wheel.
Do you know what was wrong with your computer and what you had to do. I did a hard ware test and it said the hardware was fine so all i can think is it is a software problem.
please let me know what happend to your computer!

  • Macbook won't start - apple icon turns to circle with diagonal line/slash

My Macbook won't start. When I turn on the power, the apple icon appears but then after a while it changes to a circle with a diagonal line/slash, then it just shows a gray screen.
The last time I used the computer I did several software updates. Could this be causing the problem? Any suggestions for getting my computer operating again?
    Thanks for any help/advice.

Yup, i encountered the same experience after a strange failed USB-loading, and a sudden shutdown of my macbook.
Luckily i manage to "safe-boot" (pressing "Shift" key once starting up the mac) my macbook so that i can save the necessary files before will lose them all.
After that i popped-in my SL Installation DVD, and did the reinstallation process. Fortunately, everything works as charm and everything is back to normal after Spotlight has done it's hard work.
    Happy Apple user once again.
