  • My macbook wont boot up, can u help me?

I was using Imovie editing a project, its response was really slow. I shutt it off and took out the battery, I let it sit for a while as it cooled off. When I powered it back on it was showing the apple logo and then went on to a gray screen with the loading cursor. There was also a lil white square at the top right of the screen. after that it would not take me to my usual home screen any more. I have tried all five steps in the mackbook for dummies to reboot it but nothing seems to work for me. Any other suggestions?

    Reinstall Leopard:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Crazy MacBook wont boot up...help!

My friend has brought her intel macbook to me to fix (i am her personal Apple care repairman!) and we have the following problem...
    1. She installed the Firmware update (she thinks)
    2. At start up there is only the grey screen, apple logo and the spinning wheel...
    3. eventually the screen goes black and lots of "MS DOS" type commands begin to fill the screen...like "throtteling, responding to fast!" and then goes back through the cycle
    4. Now it says Theba's Computer I have no Name SIOCPROTOATTACH_IN6:EN0 ERROR=17"

Since you are still using Panther, try booting from your System Install DVD. Try running the +repair disk+ & repair permission options.

At certain points (and for hours) I get the oh snap page on chrome, safari doesnt work, macbook wont let me create any files or for example upload music to itunes. Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • My macbook wont boot up, black screen and the cd drive keeps making a constant sound. What to do?

My macbook wont boot up. When I turn it on, the screen turns black right away and the cd/dvd drive keeps making a constant "ejecting" sound.
The strange thing though is that once in a while starts up propperly, but suddely goes black again (after a min. or two), and the ejecting sound comes back. What to do, and yh, I've never done a back up so would it be possible to take out the HD and regain whats in there?
    Any help would be appriciated!

I need any help i can get, im having trouble with the app find my iphone. I have lost my iphone, checked on the computer, and somehow, took it away so how do i get it back??

If you are saying that after signing into iCloud it is telling you device is not found, it could be for any number of reasons. If the battery is dead, if the SIM has been removed, or if someone else has the phone and they have restored it, it will not be shown. Also, if you located it once and then sent a remote wipe, it disables the abililty to locate the phone with Find My iPhone.

She came to me and said the OS was currupt and asked me to install a new os onto her laptop..
I was only able to install anything when the built in Wireless card was disabled..
Whenever you enable the wireless card, windows wont boot (all versions) nor will Windows installer boot..
Linux will boot though with the wireless card enabled.. but wont see a wireless network.
I've checked the hard drive and the ram.. both are ok.
I tried swapping the wireless card, but that didn't fix the problem..
    Could it be the motherboard?

  • My Macbook wont Boot, Power Light just lights up

I am having a HUGE Problem with my macbook pro. (Early 2011). I already brought this to the mac center but they could not find anything wrong with it. They said that the whole time it was with them their technicians did not find anything wrong with it.
The problem is that it wont boot up. The last time i was able to use my macbook pro (I am using it right now since it booted up) was 2 weeks ago. Today i tried my luck since i really needed to check my files and luckily it did boot up. but before this it would take an hour for it to boot up. After presing the on button the power light will turn on and after a few minutes a whirring sound will be heard. I will then turn off the Mac and turn it on again and the booting up sound will be heard. but last 2 weeks it was just whirring sound and after i turned it off and turned it on it wont boot up anymore until now.
I am really stumped as to what the problem of my Macbook is. Any help would be really appreciated.

Go through the steps - one by one - that ds store outlines in his user tip, Step by step to fix your Mac.
    Good luck,

  • The 'Get Information' button in my printer driver dialog is grayed out.  This happened when I upgraded my mac (and macbook).  Can't find any help anywhere.

I recently upgraded both my imac and macbook pro to a new mac mini and macbook air.  I have a networked (via airport extreme) canon ipf6100 printer that had been working great from my older computers (all running current mountain lion).  The new computer's printer driver setups went well and the dialog says its online and ready.  The problem is the 'Get Information' button in the 'Main' driver panel is grayed out.  The driver cannot read the printer's configuration (i.e. roll or sheet paper) and therefore cannot print correctly.  I have tried re-installing the driver (current one from Canon's website) and have tried connecting the printer to USB directly with the same result.  I have not been able to find any help on this anywhere.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Macbook wont boot after updating ram

    Please help,
I have a white macbook mid 2010 model.  Today I attempted to upgrade the RAM in my machine but to no avail.  The ram I purchased was 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) - DDR3 SDRAM - 1333 MHz DDR3-1333/PC3-10666 - Non-ECC - Unbuffered - 204-pin SoDIMM PNY 4GB DDR3 SDRAM. I already tried to upgrade a few years ago so I had 3gb or RAM in my machine.  I wanted to buy a 4gb stick and use it along side the 2gb stick that I have in now.  When I put both sticks in my computer just beeps and wont boot.  It will however boot, if i put either stick in alongside one of the original sticks that my machine came with, which would either give me 5gb or 3gb.  I have seen people with similiar issues and the answers given was bad ram or bad memory slots.  If the memory or the slot was bad, it would work at all no matter what combination you used so that really dosen't make any sense to me.  If someone could help me, I would appreciate it.

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 1066mhz not 1333mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed. Your MacBook requires 1066mhz RAM not 1333mhz.
These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_Whi te - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model
Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp - another good, cheap place to buying RAM if you live in the U.S.

  • Macbook Wont Boot Up?

I have a Macbook pro from about 2009, it's ran fine over the years, with the odd issue, until recently it started freezing if I used iTunes or Safari. Went in to my nearest Apple Store they told me it was the current version of iTunes & Safari were aimed for the new OSx that I had been putting off downloading, and the solution was to use Firefox or Chrome until I updated & only use YouTube for music.
I finally updated last month, and I've never seen my computer run faster until last night.
I was listening to music, and iTunes froze up, I couldn't jump from screen to screen and couldn't even get 'force quit' to open so I could shut iTunes off, so my solution was to close the screen, let it go to sleep & see what happens.
That didn't work, so I forced it to shut down and left it over night to cool off. This morning, I went to turn it on and it booted up, made the little 'chime' sound and went to the grey logo screen with a loading dial.
It then sat there for 30min.
I called the Apple store and they are baffled and told me to call AppleCare, but the truth is, I don't want to wait on hold for two hours, so I'm hoping someone knows a magic fix to this.
I shut it off & tried turning it back on again but still nothing.
I'm extremely frustrated, any help would be grand.
    xo

2009 model, that would be about 4 years old.
It sounds like what is occuring is the exhaust vents are clogged with dust and it's overheating the machine causing it to crash.
Your going to have to take the machine to a local PC/Mac repair shop and have them evaluate your sistuation and give you a estimate. Take a look at your RAM and hard drive.
Apple mostly deals with hardware under warranty/AppleCare, then usually hardware, not software issues all that much, then it's a erase and install. Older machines like yours they don't bother or quote a high repair cost and thus expect you to buy a new one.
The local Mac repair shops can give you more tailored attention and perhaps cost effective solutions.
My advice for that machine would be to revert to Snow Leopard, as 10.7+ are a bit of a drain on older hardware, but if you have too many files in 10.8 then your screwed basically.

My MacBook Pro will not reboot after a failed software update that was attempted on 2/8/2012. I am not sure if other users have experienced similar issues. Do the following:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
