Macbook wont install Leopard?

I've got a MacBook2,1 Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X4.11 when the Leopard install disc tells me it's unable to install on my computer?

Hi,
How is the Hard Drive Formatted ?
Leopard will not install on some formats
I see nothing on this page that indicates any model needs a Firmware Update first.

  • My macbook wont install 10.6 update

My macbook wont updated passed the current version of Snow Leopard that it now has. It now has 10.5.8 and wont update to 10.6. I would appreciate any suggestions or explanations.

You need to purchase Snow Leopard. 10.5.8 is Leopard.

  • Power Mac g5 wont install Leopard

i had gotten the computer used amd im locked out of it because i dont have the password.
I put the leopard disk into the computer and restart it while holding c. the computer will start up then go to a blank grey screen and will not go any further. i tried holding the alt option key and clicking on the install disk but i end up on the same screen.. why is this happening? howdo i install leopard on to the computer?

Where did you get the Leopard DVD? Does it have a gray label? If so it's an OEM disc that may be for another model, and it will not work on the one you have. Or it's possible the disc itself is damaged or defective or the optical drive is not functioning properly. And you can't dismiss the possibility the computer has a hardware problem or lacks the minimal RAM required for Leopard - 5121 MBs.

  • New macbook: to install leopard or wait till it is preinstalled?

just got a new macbook with the leapard installition dvd's (haven't opened the box) just wondering if it would be wiser/more efficient if I wait till the macbooks come pre-installed with leopard, or if I just use the DVDs to upgrade the macbook to leopard right now. Would upgrading to leopard with the DVDs effect the macbook's performance? How long till the macbooks come pre-installed with leopard?
    thanks

You'll be fine upgrading. I would wait, however, until you are comfortable with your new machine and with the OS, and not add other variables just yet.
    Good Luck,
    Joe

  • Wont install leopard, at all.

I've been sent a backup copy of my family's licenced version of OSX 10.5, my brother won't send me the original due to the Post Office strikes, and awful loss variants of mail, and it is a .dmg file, i put the DL DVD in the drive, and it prompts to install, it then prompts a reboot, and then doesn't do much all else.
It's driving me insane, do i need the original DVD.

I'm not sure how the license agreement of the family license really pertains to "household", and if it can incorporate distinct address households as one. As such, I suggest purchasing your own license for Leopard to remain within the law and be certain that you are. Call Apple and ask how limiting the "household" terminology is. If they do say you can have it installed in two remote locations, my FAQ* here should help you complete the transfer from DMG to a second DVD for yourself if the original DMG was made properly:

Since this is a user to user forum, and we aren't allowed to second guess Apple's policy or do things which are illegal I will not recommend doing my steps above, unless you can get official authorization from Apple it is OK to do so.

  • My macbook wont install update software

When i try to install a software update it does everything well until it gets to the bar, i wait 10 minutes and the bar is still in the same spot?

You have to buy OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, it's not a Software Update. Contact your online Apple store, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE. Costs $20. Install, do Software Updates, then  you'll be at OS X 10.6.8 and can install iTunes 10.7

  • Macbook wont install osx

    hi,
okay I will start with some information on the problem I am having It starts with I am trying to restore my MacBook pro back to factory settings , I have used three different hard drives and they all stop installing osx and shuts off around half way every time.  Would any one have any idea why this is happening , I currently do not have a battery in my MacBook pro it is a 2011 8.2 15 inch model im running it off charger , my battery went bad and I ordered a new one and im waiting for it to arrive , I do not know whatto do I have rest smc pram just to do it on each hard drives .

Actually, since he states he's gone through the disk utility to create a new HFS journaled partition, this sounds more like an issue with the install disc than with the hardware.
If you are using the restore DVDs that came with the system, check for scratches and damage. If you're using a specific DVD (for instance the upgrade or purchased version from the apple store), see if it will work on another system.
If there's damage, you'll need to get replacements from Apple.

  • I have a macbook pro, installed leopard last year. Last week the keyboard is acting up, I cannot use uppercase, lowercase, numeric, etc, numeric,

I am using macbook pro, been having a problem with my keyboard. Suddenly the uppercase, lowercase, numeric, etc are not working properly. I even cannot submit question to Apple, because I cannot type my password properly. Thank God I have this ipad, so I submit question using it.
This has only been going on several days, and it managed to frustrate me, as my work is much dependable on my laptop now. Please help.....I tried everything I know, unsuccesfully. I just moved in to my hometown- a small city, nobody understand apple here, don't even have a store nor service center for apple....
    Thank you!

Might have a hardware issue that was caused by the minor liquid spill.
Take it to Apple to have them look at it.  I think they do a free diagnostics.  That way you can find out what's wrong with your MB.
Good luck....Hope you get it sorted out.

  • Installing Leopard to Macbook from Imac

My son has a Macbook 15" white that I wish to upgrade to Leopard. The drive on his Macbook is broken and we don't feel there is a need to fix (USB Sticks and downloads are more than enough these days). I would prefer to format the Macbook and install Leopard clean because I am thinking of passing it on to his younger sister and buying him a new Macbook. I have the firewire and factory OSX Leopard. How should I proceed?
Macbook is currently running latest Tiger: 1Ghz 60GB HD 2Gb DDR2 SDRAM (also doing the weak and dropping Wifi thing).

Boot the MacBook with the "T" pressed. Soon you should see a yellow FireWire icon moving around the screen. Connect the MacBook and the iMac with a FireWire cable. Run the OS X installer on the iMac and tell it to install onto the MacBook.
One possible wrinkle: Is your Leopard disc black (retail) or gray (machine-specific)?

  • My Power Mac G5 Wont Install OS X 10.5 Leopard

    Hey Guys,
I have a Power Mac G5 that wont install leopard. When I put in the Leopard disk, it boots the install, then says OS X 10.5 can not be installed on this machine.
I tried Leopard assist, but that told me it would not let me use it, becuse Leopard should be able to install on this machine.
    Any ideas
    Thanks

The retail Leopard install DVD looks like this:

  • Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. Anyway, i deleted windows and want another OSX on there instead. How do i make this partition bigger please??

Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. I deleted windows after i realised i wasnt enjoying using it at all and wasted my hard drive. I now decided that i want another OSX on there instead yet i have only allowed myself 10 gb on the partition. I have ben thru some programms but am struggling on making this partition bigger.
I only want it at 20gb but cant seem to make the partition bigger, only smaller or split it into further partition.
Is there a way to do this, i have all installation discs from original OSX so think this could help.
Any help please would be fantastic.
    Thanks Chris

Hi, dragging the partition will only make smaller, not larger. In disk utility you can only split or make smaller the partitions. Yes i booted from installation disks also but still no help.
And Brody, I am willing to erase the disc completely, infact jus started doing a backup in order to do so but that failed also. And the information you gave on partition a hard drive, Although very simple and i already know how to do this, but it wont let me make the partition bigger, and i dont want to make a new partition, just enlarge the one i already have, which i dont see possible from disk utility.
Getting really frustrated now, even backing up is saying no to me. **** external being a douche.
I dont mind erasing the hard drive but surely this must be doable without deleting the secondary partition back t a single volume, and re partitioning into 2 volumes again.
    Thanks again

  • I bought the Snow Leopard Update but now my macbook wont even accept the DVD and keeps ejecting it. This is the same for all DVDs.

I have a very old (refurbished, bought over 4 years ago) macbook pro 15". It's been running ok on OS X 10.5.8 until very recently. It started ejecting disks, and then the new adobe flash player update wouldn't work. Lots of other little things have been happening as well.
I had been considering buying a new macbook, but one of the Apple store people suggested I update instead (a much cheaper alternative!). So I bought Snow Leopard, and it arrived in the post today. But now my macbook wont even accept the dvd. It takes it in, whirs and complains a bit (for less than 60 seconds) then ejects it again. I have tried cleaning the disk, cleaning the disk area with a credit card + lens cleaner (a trick I saw recommended on this forum). But no luck.
    Any advice?
I am a trainee teacher and actually will be gutted to have to get a new laptop (as I really cant afford it). BUT obviously if I have to I will. I just need to extend the life of this one for as long as possible, until I have more money to get a better one!

Bring your MBP to an Apple store genius bar and see what they say about your MBP optical drive.
Look on the OWC web site.  They sell optical drives for older MBPs.  Perhaps there is one that will fit yours.  Installing one is not brain surgery.
Otherwise examine the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites for replacements.
    Ciao.

  • Installing Leopard on New Macbook

I recently purchased the new Macbooks that came with Snow Leopard, but because they are going in a school enviroment and our software compatibility issues, I need to install leopard on them. I can get the device to boot and show me the retail install cd, but when I click the cd for install it freezes.
I suspect that the device is booting possibly in 64-bit mode and know I can hold down 32 to get it to boot in to 32-bit mode, but when I do that it wont then let me hold down the option key to access Boot Manager.
Any ideas or insight would be greatly appreciated...
    Background:
We recently purchased 25 of the new Macbook for distribution in a school enviroment. When the devices arrived I attempted to do a NetRestore from our Snow Leopard Server with the Leopard image that works on the older macbook models, but when it comes to this model (no firewire edition, suck) it gets a kernal panic error. So I was going to do a manual configuration on a single one of these devices and then use the image utility to create a new image, I could hopefully NetRestore with.

    So,
    Etresoft was correct.
After some troubleshooting and a call to AppleCare, some discoveries were made that were challenging. I was forced to install Snow Leopard and check the compatibility of our Education software to see if it would run without a problem and it did (thank God).
The next obsticle was creating the .nbi of the image off the "New Macbook" that no longer supported "Target Disk", with some discussion on the phone with the Apple Rep we both concluded this would only be possible if I were to install Snow Leopard on an external drive and then install the Snow Leopard Server Admin Tools and boot to that. Once that installation was complete, I was able to boot from the external and use the Image tility to get the new image off the device and moved over to our Snow Leopard Server.

I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.
