Macbook wont move past initial wireless setup

I got my macbook yesterday and it started up with the welcome sequence, asked me to select languages and then asked to connect to a wireless setup
I selected my router, put in the password and it said "configuring computer"... I thought it would take a moment, but 3 hours later it STILL read "configuring coumputer"

I would recommend calling 1-800-My-APPLE and have a tech help you out. That will be the fastest way to resolve your problem.

my macbook air wont get past the gray startup page!!
i read about it and i think its because of the HD low space !
so what should i do ?
i tryed to repaire it and it didnt work !!

With an external drive, after it has been setup, partitioned, etc., go to System Preferences and Time Machine, or if TM is showing on your dock, just click on it, and turn time machine on...you can then give it the name of the partition on the external drive where you want to backup.  TM will do that in the background and you don't have to think about it.
I have the Mercury Elite Pro drive from OWC, 2 TB, that I partitioned into a backup partition and working partition...so TM backs up regularly and I can use the other partition for either another bootable Mac OS X space or just point applications to that space for file storage.
You can clone the operating system using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper which are both free downloads.  They make a bootable copy of the operating system for you.

reading this, your hdd has unfortunately died. have you backed your system up? if you have it is not as bad as it seems.
you will have to buy a new drive and simply restore to that drive from the backup.

  • Ok.. macbook wont go past grey screen.

ok so i was normally using my macbook(despite its shutdowns, ive been using it with the shutdown problem for a while now..)
anyway, it all began with my USB ports// my macbook wouldn;t recognize anything.
then i tried playing a DVD.. my macbook asked me what i wanted to do wit the BLANK cd. (um, it wasnt blank!! it was a movie)
so i decided to restart, and viola. screwed!!!
now my macbook is stuck on the start up screen. it wont go beyond the apple+scrolling sign. thats all it stays at. so i put in my installation CD 1, and restarted it with the C button pressed.. ran disk utility and it shows there is nothing wrong ( verified and no repair needed to disk)
i removed the installation CD and tried restarting. nothing. it stays on the start up screen...
help anybody? week 20 macbook.. going to call apple on friday, coz i get back to town on thursday night. someone tell me wat to do. plz..
    thx

Okay, since booting to safe mode didn't seem to work try booting to the install disk one.
To do this put the disk in the computer when it is turned on. Next shut the computer down (hold down the power key until it turns off). Then turn the computer on and hold down C key until you are asked to select your main language. (I am going to assume English.) After selecting the language press the arrow. The installer will load, don't proceed with the installer. Instead wait for the top menu bar to appear. Select "Utility," then Disk utility. In disk utility select the Mac HD. Then make sure that the First Aid tab is selected. Press the "verify disk" if there are any errors click "repair disk". If the errors are not repaired the first time around try repairing once more. Once it is repaired double check by clicking verify disk.
Here is an article with some possible error messages
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
To get out of the install disk quit disk utilty then go to installer by the blue apple, go to the Installer Menu and then quit installer and then restart.
Doing the above will in the very least save you some time on the phone with Apple. If you can't repair the disk with disk utility write down any errors and let Apple know.
    I hope this helps.
p.s. the steps in the article in my previous steps do also apply to 10.4

  • 2010 MacBook wont boot past grey screen, even after a new hard drive and install CD.

Hey guys, I received a 2010 Macbook last year as a gift (no warranty). It worked fine untill a few days ago. It wouldn't boot past the grey apple logo. I took it in to an Apple store and they said it was a bad HDD. Since I didn't have much stored on it, and I have everything backed up to my desktop, I got a new, larger capacity HDD and replaced it with no issues. I started the Macbook with the OSX Leopard install CD, but it didn't identify the HDD, and now it won't boot past the grey screen.
Any ideas? Is it the motherboard?
    Thanks a lot!

Leopard is done for, call Apple via phone and order the 10.6.3 white retail disks and use those.

  • Macbook wont get past second screen (blue)when turned on

just recently, my macbook (13 in 2008)started acting wrong for no apparent reason.when i turn it on it does the chime and the apple screen then goes to a blue screen and gets stuck there.if i start in safe mode, it doesn't even get past the apple screen. i've also tried to reset the pram, but no luck.

did you try _*resetting the System Management Controller SMC*_ ?
if still no joy, try booting from the install DVD, launch disk utility and run a +repair disk+ session. if DU reports problems, repeat until no more errors appear. if DU insists the disk can't be repaired, you may need to get DiskWarrior or [_*TechTool Pro*|http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=comcontent&task=view&id=202&Itemid=107].

  • My hp stream wont move past cursor on screen

Help, my hp stream is stuck on black screen with a cursor. How can I reset?

    Hi @sbpope ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Stream Notebook and not getting past  HP Logo on startup. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

  • Display hard to close and wont get past initial boot screen - turns off

I didn't drop it and if someone else did, they won't fess up. It doesn't look bent anywhere.
I turn it on, it has grey boot up screen with apple and rotating timer thingy. The hard drive is noisy like it is in a constant read mode and then it just turns off.
I would suspect the HD is shot, but why is the lid hard to close now? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Bring it to an Apple store or authorized Apple repair center.

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw makes horrible noise and will not move past initializing

Makes horrible noise and will not move past initializing.

    Hi @HealthITLadyRed,
I read your post and see that the printer is making noise and is stuck initializing. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
I have provided some steps to try to see if we can resolve this issue.
Check and remove any packaging material inside the printer and toner.
Disconnect the USB/Network/FAX and power the printer on Standalone.
Do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
If the issue persists, perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and in case of a power switch keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power chord.
Update the printer's firmware by a USB connection. Software and Drivers.
Select Option 2 and wait for the page to load and then select the link for firmware. This resolved the previous posters issue.
I can send a private message with another step to try.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
What happened prior to this issue? (paper jam, changed toner) Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Is this a new printer?

  • My Mac mini turns on but doesn't move past the grey screen..... HELP??

    Hi,
I have had my mac mini for 3 months and i went to turn it on today and it wont move past the grey screen with the apple logo and the swirling icon underneath.  It had started to drop internet signal and also reacting slow and now this has happened. I have only had it three months from new and i dont know what to do. I have done a safe reboot etc and nothing has worked !! HELP!!

Intermittent problems are by far the most difficult to identify and correct. You can run a test one time and it passes with flying colors and the next time it fails. Apple Hardware Test and Disk Utility are definitely the not the most rigerous tests available and are not nearly as thorough as the tests available to the Genius Desk personel.

  • Pronblems my macbook wont pass the apple logo

i have a macbook with the snowleopard osx 10.6.4 and my macbook wont boot past the apple logo!
    i've tried pratically everything
    cmdoption+pr
snowleopard dvd+c after the booting sound
    cmd+v
    taking of battery
    taking of adpter
press the shift button after hearing the boot sound
evry single thing but it wont just past that hateful apple logo!!
the last operation i did was to cancel from my avast antivirus for mac (log system file) that was "according to the antivirus" a decompression bomb so i eliminated it directly from the source in finder library and after that pages won't just open and so i tried rebooting the system hoping it'll solve the problem but then it just keeps remaining stuck at the apple logo!!
it just stays there for about 2 days now coz i tried waiting thinking it was only slow!!
i can't take it to repair without an applecare it'll just be a **** of money!
    can anyonepls help me??
    i'm despirate!!

Boot with the Apple Hardware Test disc and run the extended tests.

  • My macbook pro wont get past the grey screen at startup. Help!!

After doing a run of the mill software update on my macbook pro (running snow leopard) it froze during the "moving items into place" stage. I forced a shut down and now it wont get past the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel. I have tried booting from the original DVD but it still freezes. When I boot it in verbose mode it seems to stop at "jnl: unknown-dev: update_fs_block: error reading fs block # 3597880! (ret 5)", the Apple AHCD Disk Queue manager :: set power state is timing out and there is a disk I/O error. I have tried to reset the power manager (not sure if it worked or not) and I have also tried clearing the PRAM (again, not sure of that worked). When I try to look at the hard drive using target mode on my imac the hard drive doesn't come up but the DVD does. I'm concerned that my hard drive is fried. Any suggestions?

It would help to state in your post which remedies you tried that didn't work.
Start here >  OS X Lion: If you see a gray screen at startup
If nothing there helped, try Starting up in Safe Mode
Safe Mode deletes some system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient. Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple menu.
If a Safe Mode boot didn't work, since your Mac has OS X v10.7 installed, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access OS X Recovery built in utilities. The startup disk may need repairing.
Tip:  Hold down the Eject key while starting up your Mac to eject a disc.
