Macbook wont STAY asleep

Since upgrading to Leopard, I seem to have the opposite problem of most of the posts I see. My Macbook won't stay asleep.
Cover closed, it goes to sleep and then wakes. It then goes back to sleep and wakes on it own several times before I finally just open the thing and shut it down. This has happened several times this week.
I just downloaded the 10.5.1 update... will that fix this or is this something else?
I don't have this problem on my iMac.

I had a similar problem that was caused by drivers for a scanner...when I installed the drivers, the software installed button managers for two models but I only had one. The button manager for the model I didn't own was running and constantly searching for a scanner that wasn't there.
Go to Applications/Utilities and open Console. If you have a message like "Looking for devices matching vendor ID=#### and product ID=####" repeating over and over, you might have a similar issue. Then it's just an issue of locating the offending driver and deleting it.
Hope this helps!

  • IMac G5 wont stay asleep

I have just recently restored my iMac and am having the same issue with sleeping as I did last christmas when I got it; It wont stay asleep! I called AppleCare last year and they had me delete some com.autowake. something something in the system folder and I don't remember what it was. Since I don't have AppleCare anymore, I don't know what to do.
Does anyone know how to correct this?

I called AppleCare last year and they had me delete some com.autowake. something something in the system folder and I don't remember what it was.
It was probably the file com.apple.autowake.plist in the folder /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/.

  • HELP!! Macbook wont stay connected automatically to wifi? why?

I live in apartments with tons of wifi signals. I have a secured wifi and no matter how many times i enter my password and everything my macbook wont stay connect automatically to my home wifi.
I have to use diagnostic assistance every time to connect to my wifi. It wont work. I have read some of these other forums but the suggestions don't work. Tried adding unsecured wifi signals to preferred and move to bottom and mine to top. no luck. I don't understand the DNS option so i didn't try it. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE, ANYONE
    THANKS!

When you live in an area with lots of wifi signals you are in a situation that may cause degradation to your own wifi network.
When the 54g channels were created it turned out only 3 of those channels can be used, 1, 6 or 11.
    all the other channels bleed.
So you should use a wireless sniffer such as air radar
Then look for the 3 strongest signals that are close to you. Then change the channel your wifi is broadcasting on to channel number 1, 6 or 11.
Unfortunately you may find that no matter what channel you use you are going to be close to someone else on the same channel.
The solution is to upgrade your network to a wireless N network. Using the 5ghz high band channels you have many more channels to use.
regarding your network diagnostics dont list any other network other than your own in the preferred networks. Regarding DNS your router should automatically assign a dns server.

  • Why won't my Macbook Pro stay asleep?

    Hello All,
I am desperate and really need an answer to this question. I have tried everything and had no luck.
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) running Yosemite. Whenever I close the screen, it will fall asleep like it normally does. However, the external light will only pulse once (instead of continuously), and then I can hear the hard drive begin spinning again. The external light then stays at a constant, but the screen does not light back up.
It's like the computer falls asleep, but then only the hard drive wakes up, and stays woken up. This fact causes my Macbook to eventually use up whatever battery power it has and get warm in my backpack. The only thing I can do to preserve battery power is to shut down the whole computer and boot it up every time I need it.
I've already tried EVERYTHING found on this page: OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake - Apple Support. In addition, I have spent hours browsing other forums and help posts. Any help would be fantastic.
Also, on a side note. My computer seems to run much slower than it did on it's native Mavericks.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved. Note that, as stated in the article, the computer will not sleep if some sharing services are enabled.
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
    Step 3
    Select
               ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth ▹ Advanced...
    and uncheck both boxes marked
Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if...
    Step 4
Disconnect all wired peripherals and test. If you use a wired keyboard and/or mouse, use different ones. You must rule out the wired keyboard and mouse as possible causes of the problem.
    Step 5
    Reset the SMC.
    Step 6
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 7
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 8
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after restarting out of safe mode, post again.

  • Wont stay asleep

when i try to put the computer to sleep it goes to sleep but immediately turns back on

Hi enerj, and a warm welcome to the forums!
If it's not a USB or PCI card problem, try this, it solved one recently...
I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any UPS so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • IMAC WONT STAY ASLEEP

It seems many people are having this problem. I put my mac into sleep via the many ways you can and a few minuets later it awakes. I have tried many things - i have closed all applications unplugged all usb and firewire devices and turned of wifi but still on its own accord it awakes. I have also tried resetting the smc but to no prevail.
    any one found a solution?
this was from the most recent wake from log........any one understand this.

MacBook Pro won't stay asleep with external monitor attached.  When sleep is selected from the Apple menu the computer will go to sleep only to continually wake up...go back to sleep...wake up...etc. every few seconds.  This only happens when using the external monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mine does that too. The worst thing is when it goes to sleep, then wakes up and keeps running while the lid is closed and it is wrapped up in a case. I am afraid when the hot weather comes it is going to burn up. I am hoping Apple fixes it in the software or they may have a melted MBP to replace.
Then when I open the lid it is crashed running at fill tilt, pumping out heat to beat the band. I am forced to hold the button down and reboot.
I wiped my hard disk and reinstalled my OS, but it didn't help. I reversed my OS to 10.5.0 and it solved the DVI problem but still won't sleep. This post will probably be deleted by Apple, they did it a few days ago. I just don't know what to do, and I consider myself a real Apple expert. Just hoping you realize you are not the only one.

at random moments the screen saver on my macbook pro wont stay at a steady lightening. From time to time the lighting will turn birght and then it wil dim, randomly.
my first instinct is that someting might be wrong with the hardware, however, i've told to reset my power center.
How do you reset the power center on a macbook pro?

Go to system perferences ,then click display and check if ur on auto ajust brightness this make screens changing due to lighting background,u might want to turn this off,ur decision.......or check ur energy saver beside display u might have very short settings,u can adjust both computer sleep or display sleep or in window u can see say slightly dim the display while on battery power,u might want to put this tick out....u hav selection of choices.....

  • Macbook won't stay asleep

Since updating to Leopard a few months ago, my Macbook will not stay asleep. It goes to sleep and wakes moments later. This keeps happening until I have to shutdown.
I brough it to an Apple Genius - he checked all my settings, diabled my infrared and bluetooth. He also checked some log which noted that the wake episodes are being caused by "usb port activity" - but nothing was ever connected to this computer. There's been no change - the thing will not stay asleep!
Any ideas? Again - there are NO settings telling it to wake up at certain times.

    Try this:
    1) Close all running programs
    2) Go to *Activity Monitor* and locate loginwindow under Process Name
    3) Click on loginwindow to highlight it and click *Quit Process* in the Tool Bar. A window comes up that instructs you to *Force Quit* - do that.
    4) Next you will be returned to the Login Screen and do so to bring up OS X.
Now try closing your computer screen and see if it sleeps.
    Hope this helps -GDF

  • MacBook won't stay asleep & pploader going nuts

Last day or two I've noticed my MacBook won't stay asleep more than a few seconds at a time... very effing frustrating.
Aside from that not only does it not sleep, it actually acts up, the fans start running and the comp gets very hot. A quick check of Activity Monitor shows that "pploader" is what is making the fans spin... I'm guessing this also has something to do with the not staying asleep issue. Not a good situation.
FYI, I recently upgraded my hard drive and switched to the Opera browser.
    Any ideas, advice? Please?
    Thanks

    HI,
    Try resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
I did a quick search on Google for, "pploader" ... check out this thread.

  • My new Macbook pro retina 2013 won't stay asleep

When I put it to sleep by closing the cover or by selecting sleep, it sometimes stays asleep, but mostly not. The worst thing is I sometimes find it with the fan running on high, very hot, and when I lift the lid and log in (it requires me to loging twice), I check the Activity Monitor and it shows at the top, using the CPU, 5 "ManagedClient" processes, each using 100% of the CPU. Something is very wrong. Several times after being asleep, it had obviously restarted and as message on a plain screen said "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" - still an issue but not as bad as the first one I described. I also find, after any and every problem - which threre have been many of, the computer will not restart or shut down. It goes as far as the spinning wheel and stays there and I have to Force power down.
Any expert help here would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Fred

It seems Mavericks has quite a few bugs, including this one. This problem did not occur in previous versions of the OS, even with the same hardware.

  • MacBook Pro won't stay asleep, treats shutdown as restart

My MacBookPro 13" in Snow Leopard 10.6.8 will not stay asleep. In the console, I see 10/17/11 6:09:28 AM          kernel          Wake reason = RTC, then all the networking comes up, a few other things, and it tries to go back to sleep again - writes out to the safesleep hibernation, then, boom. Awake again:
10/17/11 6:09:49 AM          kernel          Wake reason = RTC
    Yes, 21 seconds later.
All night long. If it's not plugged in, it's dead by morning.
Yes, I've zapped PRAM and reset SMC.
It's not always like this, but when it is, and I attempt to shutdown, as soon as it turns off, it turns back on again. In my mind, that stinks of hardware.
    Anyone?

  • Airport Icon wont stay turned on..

    Hi Guys
For somereasom today, my Airport icon on the top right hand of my screen wont stay illuminated and thus, my internet connection keeps dying.
Its fine on my Macbook Pro but not on my Mac Pro desktop...?
At the moment there is just a blank icon with an explination mark on it - any ideas?

I seem to be having the same problem. We were in Mexico on vacation, and on the second day I was taking some photos near the water with some highways and some water splashed on the camera, but it seems to still be working for the next few hours. When I stop taking pictures and came back to the camera a few hours after, I tried turning it on and the set date and time settings screen was displayed. After I entered the settings, I was able to resume taking pictures. However, when I turned the camera off, then on again, that same screen displayed it again.
The next day, I went to turn on the camera, and the lands would not extend fully and will turn off main extension. When I held down the power button, it would retract back but not all the way. If I hit the playback button, I was only then able to fully close the lens. I'm thinking now in hindsight, I should have not tried to turn it on, and just put it in a bag of rice right away, but it's probably too late for that now, and since I'm thinking the water that got on it was salt water from the ocean, it might have corroded some terminals or some electronics inside, I'm not sure. But I don't think I want to pay $200 for Canon to just look at it, and then come back to me saying they can't fix the camera. The warranty has just run out, and I think I might be better off just buying a new camera.
