MacBookPro 15" CPU whine: how to test,  samples as .mp3

My W8614… MacBook Pro 15" still has the CPU whine, both with the power adapter plugged in (lower volume) and unplugged (higher volume). It emanates from both speakers even when the speakers are muted (volume zero).
My guess for the root cause is not separating analog and digital circuitry
properly.
I put up recordings of the CPU whine at
http://www.heusser.com/pub/macbookpronoise/noiseonbattery.mp3
The Utility SystemLoad (http://www.bresink.de/osx/SystemLoad.html) will
play the scale on the MacBook Pro by loading the processors
http://www.heusser.com/pub/macbookpronoise/noisebatteryscale.mp3
I will try to get it replaced under the 14d DoA policy.
12" PB G4/1.2GHz- Mac Book Pro - 12" iB G3/500 MHz - PowerMac G4/450 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I haven't got used to mine since it came in February. I remember going to the Apple store to see about the whine and one of their staff told me to use photobooth to fix it!
Whining MacBook Pros arent allowed to be turned on in my school as it causes irritation to everyone!

  • How to test the sample adapter code on PI 7.1?

    Hi,
I would like to test the sample adapter on PI 7.1.
    I followed these explanations:
    /people/gowtham.kuchipudi2/blog/2006/01/04/testing-sample-adapter
How-to deploy Sample Adapter in PI 7.1
but I still can't get things working.
The com.sap.aii.adapter.sample.ra.jar file I retrieved from the server doesn't contain any ra.xml file so I took the SampleRA.xml I found in the sample_ra.jar file fetched from a PI 7.0 server.
I used this XML file content to fill the adapter metadata in the integration repository.
The sample adapter is deployed and its JNDI name is
    deployedAdapters/com.sap.aii.adapter.sample.ra/shareable/com.sap.aii.adapter.sample.ra
I don't know where to put this information in the metadata.
As a result my sender and receiver communication channels are said to be running in the runtime work bench but there is no message thrown when I put the expected file in the source directory.
The sender communication channel stays blind.
    Could someone help me?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Olivier

    Hi,
Thanks for your answer but there is no sample_ra.rar file on my PI 7.1 server.
Instead I have a com.sap.aii.adapter.sample.ra.jar file that is located at

  • X300 + CPU whine + Linux + how to disable C4 state

    Hi,
I also have this annoying CPU whine occurance when my CPU changes to C4.
As I have Linux running on my x300 (Ubuntu 8.10) deactivating Power-Management in bios is not an option because then I cannot adjust the display-brightness with the function-buttons anymore.
Is it possible to deactivate C4 with a shell script?
EDIT/ I had to reinstall gnome-power-manager after deactivating power-mgmt in bios, adjusting brightness now works again.
    Yet, my question still remains.
    Thanks in advance

  • CPU Whine Recording

Further to what someone posted in another thread, you can actually record the CPU whine in Garageband! It is at a lower frequency than the whine I actually hear (the microphone need only sample at ~8kHz) but is very distinctive and clearly heard. It even changes frequency on chaning CPU usage.
How this can be "within spec" is beyond me. Just thought I would record and post it before TNT pick up the laptop for refund on Monday.
You can hear a demonstration recording of the whine here:
    http://ned.corpus.cam.ac.uk/~fjb31/
    James

Yes, it's not great. I think that's an aberration of the sampling - although it could be due to OS scheduling of Garage Band.
What is also interesting is that in the recording the whine is softer when the power cable is unplugged. To me the whine is much louder - this might be due to the sound being transmitted better through the case, or ears more sensitive to lower frequencies. From the recording you get the impression that both are of the same intensity.
It would be interesting to record the sound at 44kHz find its true frequency and intensity and judge the human response to that - an oscilloscope trace would be good. It's not ideal recording the sound from within the case.
One thing I haven't seen anyone comment on is the effect this has on using the MBP as a recording studio/for Podcasts etc. The background noise when both cores are on (and not heavily loaded) is sufficient to badly affect the quality of this.

  • How to test servlet using Junit test????

    Hello everybody
Does anybody know how to test an servlet class using Junit without using Cactus test . Is it possible to test a servlet using Junit without cactus test.Plz tell me the process how to test a servlet using Junit test .
    Regards
    srikant

    1) Do yoiu mean how to "run" your servlet code with sample parameter? This call manual testing with a sample run of you code. You need a web server(eg Tomcat), create a webapp with your servlet then deploy it there in order to run it.
    2) httpunit and junit are framework to write test case code that can be automated and repeatable. Plz read their doc.
    3) Your sample code me a very wrong way to retrieve and convert servlet parameters.
Get a java toturial and servlet tutorial book and read it over the weekend. You need to get at least the basic.

  • How to Test IDOC WPUUMS01

    Hi All,
I've created a sample idoc file of type WPUUMS01 to upload to IS Retail. I just don't know where to test. I was using WE19, test tool for IDOC processing but Im having a hard time figuring out the errors in my IDOC since it automatically overwrites my file.
Any suggestions on how to test or how to use WE19?
    thanks so much.
    Kenny

    Hi Kenny,
    In WE19:-
    1.     Select the radio button Basic Typ and enter ‘WPUUMS01’
    2.     Execute
    3.     You will get a template Idoc.
    4.     Read the file and input the data manually to the Idoc. Double click the segment name, the fields will be displayed and you can enter the data. Be carefully and enter the data in the correct segments and in correct order. The values which are not present should not be entered. Enter data relevant for one Idoc only.
This way you will populate one Idoc and then you can test.
    Hope this is helpful.

Now, i am customizing the sample applications; Only for wallet, i found some reference article on the net and could able to customize(In build_samples.bat, i kept only wallet and removed other classes for compilization, script generation &etc) and test it successfully. What about others like JavaPurse, HelloWorld &etc. How to test them individually?
Or Please give me some url related to other sample card program with explanation .

  • How to test context or popup Menus for a Composite.

Hello SWTBot gurus and fellow users,
Question: I'm wondering if it is possible and, if so, how to test a context (popup, right-click) Menu that is set for a Composite.
So far, I've only seen examples where the context Menu is for an item in a Tree. I've also tried using the built-in context Menu finders with no luck.
I have some sample code below for a simple Composite with a context Menu and SWTBot test code.
Thanks in advance for any pointers, clues, etc.

  • MBP Cpu Whine

Yesterday I recieved my Mac Book Pro 1.83 CTO 1gb ram and western spanish keyboard. The computer itself is incredible and I am very happy with it so far. The only problem I have is the cpu whine, which misteriously dissapears when I open photobooth and which dissapears when I open comic life and close it. After playing with my MBP yesterday for 20 minutes I already had a headache due to this whine. I called applecare inmediately and they prononounced my MBP D.O.A and offered to replace my MBP with a new one having to wait another 3 to 4 weeks and without any guarantee that the new one will not have this problem. They also offered to send the computer to austin for repair. I chose this option and am now waiting for the box to ship it to them. My question, is, have any of you successfully repaired your MBP cpu whine? If so what did they repair and how long did it take? After paying more than 2000 for this laptop I expect nothing less than perfect and this cpu whine will drive anybody crazy and I do not see why I should have to put up with it.Thanks!

you dont have to put up with it. after all the complaints about the whine im suprised people still buy it lol. if this was a PC machine with problems we would all be laughing at them. but its a mac with problems LOL are they laughing at us now haha.
PS mine is fine. but if yours isnt check the post below. there are like 500 responses so im sure one of them has good info for you. instead of waiting in here for an answer. this one is sure to have been answered in the other large post.

  • HT1338 system preference not open so how guide to sample?

My mac book pro in system preference not open so how guide to sample?

    Hello,
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Analyzing the "idle CPU whine" issue

    Hi All,
I have been waiting for a solution for the "idle CPU whine" issue since I returned my MacBook Pro because of the whine.
First of all, we need to filter out all the posts where a person says that he does not have the whine but has not heard a whining unit. So, we need to focus only on experiences of people who hear the whine or do not hear whine but have heard the whine in another unit.
Secondly, I think that the build week number has no significance on the whine issue. More interesting would be to have people sending here the last part of their serial number, which supposedly is some kind of configuration code, and stating if they have the idle CPU whine or not. Maybe we could get some new information out of that.
Do also state, if you have actually compared a whining and a non-whining unit. If you have not compared the no-whine opinions are useless as they are merely opinions without a reference to a faulty unit.

" Mike, I thought you might find this reply from Apple regarding my contacting them with a noise issue with the MacBook Pro. I noticed that if I were to disable a processor core the noise immediately stopped and this is Apple's reply.

"Hi Eric, I heard back from engineering and was informed that this normal behavior for the MacBook Pro. When the processors are idle a capacitor on the logic board will take on additional power loads causing the capacitor to vibrate, thus creating the noise. Turning off the second processor and/or using better energy saver settings reduces the load on the capacitor causing the noise not to occur.

  • Core 2 Duo CPU whine.

    Hi everyone.
I am close to purchasing a MacBook Core 2 Duo for my brother and I would just like to know how much of a difference there is in CPU whine between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo MacBooks? Is the 'whine' in the C2D louder/more noticable or does it have less of an annoying noise?
    Thanks in advance
    Mark

I got Core Duo - my girlfriend got Core2Duo and both have the CPU whine. There is no difference in between the two - they're not too loud but get little bit worse with time. Apparently not every MacBook has this problem - so my advice to you is go ahead and buy one - and if within 14 days you're not satisfied, have it replaced or return it for refund.
Note that the CPU whine is not really that bad - that it will keep you from fully enjoying the computer. It only bothers me when I'm in dead silent room and browse the web. However - when I use Windows XP under bootcamp - there is no whine whatsoever. So when I need to browse the web - I do it on the windows side. Besides I really like the new internet explorer
Good luck with your purchase. The macbooks are a great little notebooks. I doubt that your brother will ever complain about the CPU whine - even if it is present. My girlfriend has never noticed it.
