MacbookPro 2.0GHz Upgrade for MBP owners?

Hello, I was just wondering if it would not be an Idea to offer MBP customers of the 1.8GHz (and even old 1.6GHz) a free upgrade to 2.0 GHz?
It looks like Apple realizes that the dual 1.6 and 1.8 Intels are not pushing the performance one would expect. I have this idea because it has had 2 upgrades since the short launch of the MBP.
Most of my frustration commes from the fact, my 1.83GHz Macbook Pro has bin dropped to the same performance benchmarks as the plastic $1000 MacBook. (I know I pay extra for looks and bigger HD, Smart-DVD and such)...
It is good that you eliminate products from your program when you knowtice they are not what you want them to be, but don't forget about all the customer who already fell for the first 2 editions, which willl be the most hardcore Macintosh Freaks (like me)?
And what about the people who bought the 2.0GHz MBP for about $2400, and it is now not even $2000 !?
Or am I the only one bashing my head over this Upgrading of Apple?

I really don't think that is the case at all. Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba are all still using those processors, so those companies must feel something is right about the performance of those processors. I think if Apple is guilty of anything it is of taking advantage of price drops to offer the performance gains immediately. It is an interesting strategy because many manufacturers like Sony will sit on the same specs until they update model numbers. For example updating the SZ100's to SZ200's. As Apple lacks models numbers and probably had a desire to position themselves a little ahead of most of the current competition they apparently decided to make them immediately available.
Would you have felt better if that had waited until August or September to do it? What difference would it have made? What about those who would have maybe purchased in late August just to see them upgraded in early September? The point is your not going to make everyone happy. I think Apple did what they could to make people happy by passing on the price drops immediately. It seems it is a damned if you do, damned if you don't strategy.

Probably because for the majority of people it is a non-issue. It happens and most people realize and accept that it happens. I am still a big Canon fan despite the fact that they released the 30D not long after I purchased my 20D. Nikon did a quick model change from the D70 to D70s as well

Early Upgrade for Fascinate Owners

Since so many of us are having difficulty with our fascinate phones, and some of Verizon users have been able to exchange their phone for another phone, you would hope Verizon would at least provide the current fascinate users with a one time option of an early upgrade for those who are ineligible at this time for an upgrade. Based on the issues that Fascinate users are experiencing, it looks like there could be a common cause. Dropped/not received calls, slow network performance, lost network connectivity and poor battery life could all be linked back to the radio/antenna. I have also seen threads stating that the antenna in the Fascinate is of a poor design. If this can be proven, then there might be a legal recourse for the Fascinate owners.
Turn off 3G data and the phone's battery life improves dramatically. Turn on Wifi, connect to an AP and again, the battery life improves dramatically. Stand next to another Verizon Wireless user with another manufacture's phone and the notice the difference in cell strength between the two phones. The Fascinate usually will have less or no "Bars".
If this can be attributed to a "design flaw", then it should fall under electronics lemon laws.

RAM upgrade for MBP 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I have a MBP 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo currently with 2 GB of RAM and with all the work I do on it I would like to upgrade to 4 GB. Purchasing the RAM through Apple is out of the question because it so expensive.
I would like to know what is the best brand to buy and on what website.. Is an upgrade to 4 GB possible for my MBP? It looks like I have my "Bank 0/DIMM0" filled with 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz and my "Bank 1/DIMM1" filled with the same thing. Does this mean that both of my RAM slots are full AND if I want to upgrade my RAM I'll have to purchase 2 sets of 2 GB RAM? Please help as I am new to all of the tech stuff...
Another side note... I've noticed that some discussions have stated that some MBP are only upgradable to 3 GB of RAM, but I'm pretty sure that I can upgrade mine to 4 GB of RAM. Can anyone shed any light on this?

yes, both of your RAM slots are full, so to get 4GB you will have to get 2 2GB sticks. Having the same model I can safely assure you that it will recognize all 4GB of the new Ram.
as for brands, there have been many I have seen recommended on this board, but one name seems to pop up consistently is Kensington, I picked up my ram from the store I bought my laptop at, so I couldn't recommend a site, sorry

Question for MBP owners that span their desktop

I recently ran into the following bug with the latest beta of Parallels (http://www.parallels.com):
With the PW console window in my main iMac display, the mouse and keyboard work as expected (need to hit Cntl-Option to release keyboard and mouse from the console window). When I drag the window to my second monitor (I span displays with my iMac), any mouse click within the console window will release the keyboard and mouse (rendering the mouse useless within the Guest OS).
I'm wondering if a MBP user can duplicate the same issue I am experiencing on my iMac.

That's tempting, but without full-screen and without video acceleration, I'm leary of putting time into it. I perused the forums briefly and it seemed (subject to my vague recollection) that there were a lot of shortcomings that the developers plan to address before the final release.
Maybe if I get bored enough… Like that's going to happen…

Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.

Need help picking the correct hard drive upgrade for my MBP

I need help picking the correct/best hard drive upgrade for my MBP. It is the 15" 2GHz Core Duo. Came with a spacious 90GB drive.
Suggestions and recommendations very appreciated.

It will take almost any 2.5 inch sata drive.
Take a look at www.newegg.com and www.macsales.com to see what's out there and how much it costs.
Toshiba have a 320gb 2,.5 inch drive in the works, but it's not quite out yet and will be expensive.

What happened was that the password was 32 characters long and the field that they give you to use would not allow you to manually type those characters in (crazy huh?) but it took it when i copied and pasted it in!

Recommendations for authorized dealers for MBP HD upgrade

I recently purchased a used MPB and I like to upgrade the HD from 160GB to 320GB. I know apple doesn't do the upgrade after sale but, is there a authorized dealer who can do the upgrade for me?. The system is still under warranty and I do not want to void it by doing the upgrade myself.

I can't help too much with authorized dealers, but I replaced the hard drive in my 15" macbook pro. I put in a western digital 250gb drive. It was fairly simple, as long as you're comfortable with a lot of little parts. Here is link if you want to see how it is done:

Final Cut express upgrade for intel macbook pro

Yes you need to crossgrade to 5.1

The story I heard was that there wasn't enough volume of sales for Apple to expend the resources to develop the line further. When the 17" MBP line only accounted for 2-3% of the sales, it wasn't enough to offset the expense to engineer it, stock it, support it, etc. What they chose to do was to offer the retina display 15" MBP that supports the same resolution (and possibly higher) and at the same time reduce the number of models they have to support.

I note that you marked correct a response that seems to assume you just bought the machine and are interested in a free Mountain Lion update, but you state your machine is a 2011 model. I'm not sure whether that was a typo or there was a miscommunication, but it's important to understand that the Lion Up-to-Date program ended a while ago. If you are hoping to update to Lion for free, you've missed the boat on that one, and you definitely won't qualify for the Mountain Lion Up-to-Date program. If you want Lion, you'll need to buy it. If you wait a month, though, you can get Mountain Lion instead for $10 cheaper (Mountain Lion will only be $20, Lion is $30), and you can upgrade straight from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
