MacBookPro 8,1, 2 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB beeps after shutting down.

Hi There.
MacBookPro 8,1, 2 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB.
Mac OS version: 12C60
My friend has bought a new MacBook with specs mentioned above. I have upgraded the OS to Mountin Leon 10.2 succefully. However, after that the machine started making beeps everytime I shut it down and does not stop beeping untill I push the power button again for a few seconds and next time when I start it up, an error message appears saying that "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait".
I have a copy of the full report of this error.
Any help with this to get rid of this annoying problem would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

Find below the latest version of the report, hopefully it's of some worth.

MacBook Pro 8,1 – Intel Core i5 – 2.23 GHz (early 2011) New with OSX 10.6 – current on all updates.
I successfully installed rEFit. I used Boot Camp to install Win 7.  All was great.
Then installed debian 6.  Somehow after the debian install and restart (I know this sounds crazy) but I am now reduced to Win 7 only. rEFit is not present when rebooting nor is OSX or debian. Further, I am unable to force the install DVD to launch when rebooting, by holding C, D or F8.  The Option key brings me to the grey screen with a padlock. I have attempted the root and local pw- no go. Restart holding D takes me to the windows boot manager. I have attempted several options within the Advanced Options; including – Repair Your computer, safe mode and “last known good config,” All of which did nothing.
I can see all my OSX files within win7. I tried to install the OSX within windows. Ya right, that did nothing..
I only desire to get back to OSX...
    What are my options??

Yes, you royally hosed up your machine.
You should first try to get your files off, any way you can to a external drive.
Your going to need to hold c and boot from the disk that came with your computer and a couple of screens in under the menu is a option for Disk Utility.
Select your drive and Erase with Security Option Zero, format the drive HFS+ Journaled and when that's finished (about a hour or so) then quit and install OS X from the installer.
I hope this works, but I suspect it won't. Others have hosed their machines trying to use a Linux disk without proper partition formatting too.
Another option might be to use another Mac to c boot off the Snow Leopard disk and install OS X onto a external drive, take that to the problem Mac and try holding option and booting off of it to erase your internal drive.
    You could replace the drive.

Is this holding option while booting?
There was someone else around here who hosed their Mac with a Linux disk too. Try to find it.

Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    I am using os x 10.4.11.
Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

  • Upgrading RAM for an iMAC  Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz Quad Core - Late 2012 (I'm guessing).

I have an iMAC Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz Quad Core - Late 2012 (I'm guessing).  I am trying to upgrade the RAM of my iMAC and I am not sure how to go about it. Running on OSx 10.6.3
This iMac has 4 slots - Currently my RAM is using 2 slots with 4 GB so I have 8 GB right now.
The speed is 1333MHz. Now I have some RAM that could get to 32GB but the 4 RAM chips speed is
    1866 MHz.
Would it be possible to swap my old RAM (8GB) 1333MHz for the new 1866mhz RAM? even with the difference in speed?  The RAM is from Crucial.
If possible I can try and swap the RAM if I get inside my iMAC.

If you are really running 10.6.3, then you do not have a 2012 machine. Please check to see if this is yours (it's a 2010):
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i5-2.8-27-inch-alumin um-mid-2010-specs.html
It also mentions the exact specs of the RAM. I would only use the RAM supported by Apple; using the higher speed rated RAM will not result in higher speed.

I am a CS student and love assembly sow i want something more programmer oriented, but otherwise i have exams and i'm a little afraid about playing around with bash and dedicating the time only for fixing problems with arch, type compatibility with Wpa2 enterprise - TLS, or, ati support, or, spim \ prolog \ lisp etc...
Btw, will install on a 32 g ntfs partition winshit, only for this programs, i don't like to much virtual machines...

  • Intel Mini powers USB device after shut down

Last night I shut down all of my equipment and later returned to find that my Intel Mini (Core 2 Duo) was powering my Microsoft keyboard that was connected directly into the Mini. This happened once before with a USB-powered hub but I thought the problem was with Leopard. However, last night I shut down from Tiger so the problem is apparently with the Mini. The Mini shut down fine but then mysteriously repowered itself and the keyboard.
The only device connected to the Mini's USB ports now is a 7-port self-powered Belkin hub but that stays off once it's powered down. The problem only seems to be with bus-powered devices. I now have three empty USB ports on my Mini that I'm afraid to use with any bus-powered devices. Has anyone else experienced this with an Intel Mini? I have the latest Core 2 Duo model, 1.83 GHz, 2 GB RAM. Any advice, comments, etc. will be appreciated. Thanks.
    Claire

Last night my Mini started up by itself again so today I checked the Console System log and discovered that a program I'm using for backups (Data Backup) was scheduled to run every half hour and, apparently, it tried to do that while the Mini was shut down. I guess it was successful a couple of times. I've disabled the scheduling feature of the program and I'll wait and see if that solves the problem.

  • Replacing Processor (Intel Core i7-4510U [2.0]) of HP Envy 15 (K002NE)

    Hey HP Masters and Gururs!
I bought HP Envy 15 (K002NE) couple of days ago. To be honest i was so dumb for not investegating more about the procssor. I picked up "Dual Core" and it's 2.0 i thought it's 2.6.
Here are my questions to the community and masters offcouse:
    Link to my laptop:
    -> http://www8.hp.com/emea_middle_east/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=7178661#!tab=feature...
-> Is there any way that i can replace/upgrade my processor?
-> Can somebody link me to the PDF where i can see more campatible procssors which i can use for my laptop?
-> I want to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.2 or 3.4 is it possible?
Please point me into the right direction.
    Regards,
    Bilal

  • Imac 27 late 2009 - since november the processor (intel core 2) is continuously surcharging, music stops, movies freeze...

    Hi,
Since November the processor of my iMac is very easily surcharged. I've looked in several posts and I discovered about the spotlight question, so I've disabled it since I don't really use it anyway. The problem wasn't fixed. Then, reading that it was a lion problem I tried to go back to snow leopard, but the problem still wasn't fixed at all. So I've been back to lion, I even added several gigas of RAM, now I have 16G. the problem is still unsolved. Even if I'm just listening to some music or watching a movie with every other application closed, from time to time the music stops several times, movies freeze etc. It seems like it's not the operative system, it's not the RAM, it's not a real surcharge, and when I look in the activity monitor nothing really shows up. I am clueless, but it's really really annoying.
Thank you in advance for every suggestion...

OWC has an upgrade program for 2010/2011 iMacs where they figured out how to replace hard drives without tripping up the sensor the iMac is expecting. See http://blog.macsales.com/11638-owc-turnkey-program-for-2011-imacs-announced .
Some have talked about installing a HDD fan control program to turn down the fan, and some don't consider that a solution.
In Germany, someone came up with a custom circuit that keeps everyting in working order:  http://www.gravis.de/blog/imac-2011-freie-festplattenwahl-dank-gravis-cbreeze/
I've got to believe that someone will develop a more easily accessible option as more iMacs need hard drive replacements.

  • I have an IMac4,1 intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz 667 MHz purchased in Feb. 2006. Can I use 4GB (2x2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop memory

I have an IMac4,1 Intel Duo 1.83 GHz 667 MHz (Bus.) purchased in February 2006. Can I upgrade my memory with 4GB (2x2GB) 200-Pin DDR2
    SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop memory?

That memory specification is correct, but the maximum memory configuration for your iMac is 2 GB.

  • Intel Core Duo 2.26 GHz Core Running At 100 Degrees Centigrade

Forgive me if this is in the wrong section.
I purchased a 13" MacBook Pro back in April. I've suddenly noticed that the CPU is getting entirely hot. I mean really hot, to the point where this thing might burst in flames.
Often, I have over 50% of CPU availability, so I know it's not the CPU working "too" hard. I have installed an app which has measured the core temperature at 100 degrees centigrade. I know this can't be normal.
I'm coping right now thanks to an application called smcFanControl (which is bringing fan speeds to 4000rpm), but if I'm out and about I cannot have this fan running that fast or I'll be out of battery in less than an hour.
    Any thoughts, suggestions?

Computers run hot when they are doing work.
Your computer has a series of temp sensors that will shut it off when it exceeds the maximum operating temperature, this is called an overtemp. 100 degrees C is hot, but without the use of SMCfancontrol do your fans kick up automatically?
Oh, and 100 degrees is not going to cause your computer to burst into flames, I promise.
In Activity Monitor, what apps are taking up CPU power? Sometimes you can have a software problem causing some process to go nuts and it isn't at all hardware related.
Other times, your SMC settings (system management controller -- chip on your logic board that controls power, fan speed, and many other things) can become corrupt in which case your fans may not spin up as needed.
You can reset your SMC and retest, see if that helps. If it is a MBP with an integrated battery, do the following:
Power off the computer, plug in to wall power.
Press Shift + Control + Option + Power Button, for a second or two and release them all at once. If your battery wasn't fully charged, you'll see the magsafe light go from orange to green and back to orange. Then power back up and retest.
