MacBookPro A1150 Can't install OS on new HD

My HD crashed, so I bought a new one. Installed it, then tried putting in the 10.4.5 OSX DVD. MBP would not boot up on DVD. I then pout in Tech Tool Pro DVD and it booted up, could see the drive, which had no OS on it.
I put the MBP in Target mode hooked it to my iMac and could see both the DVD and HD.
Back to square 1 I have a blinking folder + ? and the install DVD won't boot the MBP.

Hi m,
Given that TTP boots the MBP, it sounds like your optical drive is working ok, but I'm wondering about the install DVD. Is it the one that shipped with your MBP? Any marks on it? Will it load to the desktop on your booted iMac?

i bought the photoshop cs2 cs3 cs5 and lightroom and lightroom 4. i can't install on may new macbookpro 13inch?

On which operating system are you trying to install these Adobe apps?
Please specify the operating system name and version.
If you have purchased new Macbook Pro, then you should have atleast Mac OSX 10.9 or later. However, i doubt you will be able to install most of these apps on it as they are pretty old apps except CS5 & Lr4.
Still you can give it a shot and check.
What happens when you try to install them?
Do you get any error message? An error screenshot or full text of the error, should be helpful.

I threw up the box before installing photoshop elements 13 and now i can not installed my brand new photoshop because i do not have a serial number

When you buy software, the serial number is really what you're buying, since the software is typically downloadable. So don't throw it away in the future.
If you registered the software before you threw away your serial number, then Adobe may have a record of your purchase.

I can't install Premiere Elements {new purchase} because of "Error 2350. 'FDI Server Error.'" I cannot "ignore"  I can only abort. Adobe says that my purchase is not supported even though it's new. Help anyone?

What is the computer operating system involved? Can we assume Premiere Elements 12 as the new purchase? And, are you trying to install from an installation disc or from purchased online downloaded installation files?
I have not run into Error 2350. FDI Server Error before, but here are some links that talk about Error 2350. Please see if any of them apply to your situation.

Can I install again my new software after 2-3 months when I buy a new Computer?Thank you

Yes.  Also, you are allowed to have the software installed and active on two machines, so if you like you can continue to have it on the original machine.  If you want to remove it from the original machine be sure to deactivate it first.

  • Can't Install OS on new Hard Drive

I just got a brand new iMac G5 with a bad Hard Drive. Apple sent a new hard drive but after I installed it I can't install the OS 10.4. I ran Disk First Aid and it says “Invalid extent entry, Volume check failed, ERROR: The underlying task reported failure on exit, 1 HFS volume checked, 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.” I also can not run the Apple Care disc because I have a wireless mouse. I have installed no hardware upgrades.

Like Mike said, erase fixes that type of error a lot of times. I have also had a lot of success using a program called DiskWarrior. It rebuilds the directory files and usually fixes errors like that without data loss.

  • Can't install(format?) new hard drive

I recently purchased a Wetern Digital Scorpio 250GB PATA HD for my Toshiba M35X-S114.  This was the drive recommened on the Toshiba Laptop Accessories page.  I physically instaled the new drive but can't figure out how to get it started.  I used the System Recovery DVD for my computer thinking I could install the original software on the new hard drive. The guy on the tech support phoneline said I could.  When I tried to use the recovery disc I got all the wall to the message where it prompts me to "press C for continue or A to abort".  When I press C, the cursor moves right below the prompt and just blinks.  The tech support line said the process may take several hours but I let it do this for for 3.5 hours and the cursor was still just blinking below the continue/abort message.  Is this normal?  Do I just need to be patient?  When I used the recovery disk on the old, original hard drive my computer was completely recovered in 45 minutes.  Oh, BIOS reads "none" next to hard disk.  I hope this helps.

I emailed Hitachi support and got this response.
    It works. Just a pain!!
Hard drives of SATA type interface does not have jumpers to configure. You
can still use a SATA 3.0Gb/s drive (set to 3.0Gb/s) in your system, but it
    will only work at 1.5Gb/s.
If your have a PC system, you can temporarily install the drive internally
and use our utility called Feature Tool that'll allow you to change various
ATA settings. This utility has the diskette and CD version. If you do not
have a floppy drive and are unable to create a Feature Tool diskette, you
can select the Feature Tool CD image. The fourth download link is for the
image file. This file will allow you to create a bootable CD version of
Feature Tool when a floppy diskette drive is unavailable. For instructions
on how to properly use this file, please refer to the documentation
included with your CD burning software.
If you have any questions regarding the usage of Feature Tool, please refer
to the User's Guide (see page 17 on how to change the drive capacity). The
Feature Tool and User's Guide can be downloaded from the following URL:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#FeatureTool
Before running Feature Tool, ensure that your system boot sequence (in your
system BIOS) is set to boot to your CD ROM drive as the first device.
Insert the bootable Feature Tool diskette or CD that you created and let
the system boot to this CD.

  • Can't install PSE in new OS

I had PSE 6 on both my laptop and my desktop.  I upgraded my desktop from Vista to Win 7 prox64 and have the original install DVD.  When I try to install in my new OS it installs properly but on first use it asks for serial number.  I type the correct number and it says "The number that you entered is not valid...." I suspect that it may not allow because of the registration of my old installation.
How many computers are allowed?  Do I need to deactivate the software on my laptop (the only other computer with the same PSE serial number)?  If so, can I reactivate on my laptop when I need the software in the field??

Most versions of photoshop elements 6 don't have activation and if yours did, you'd probaly get a different message like that you have pse 6
    activated on two other computers.
There are 24 numbers in the serial plus the dashes between each set of four numbers, so you would type
    (the X's below represent numbers)
    1057-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

  • Can't install Panther on new hard drive

After my old hard drive failed on my IMac DV400, I bought a new 40GB hard drive. I put it in and when I put in Disc 1 of OS X 10.3, it gets to the destination drive and the pic has the drive with a ! mark in red and it says it can't load it as it is not in the first 8MB of the drive and will not let me go any farther. I erased the drive using the disc utility and now what do I need to do? I know on an IBM compatable, I have to format the drive but the disc utility doesn't have that option. What next? Bob

    Bob:
Your iMac must be one referenced in this article.
As Niel indicated, you need to format your HDD so that the first partition is less than 8 GB.
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
    Select language
    • Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create tqo partitions.)
    • Click on Options button
    • Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram. You are creating two partitions.
    • Either adjust the size of the volume in the diagram or type in the size field 7.9 GB
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD) for Partition 1 and something like Data for Partition 2
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Optional: Check box to Install OS 9 Drivers
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
    • Click Erase button
    • Quit Disk Utility.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

  • Imac g5- can't install os on new hard drive

    Hello,
I have an iMac G5 that I haven't used in a while. When trying to turn it on today, I got the "question mark" folder. I tried to do some troubleshooting- tried to reinstall os x, but the hard drive didn't show up in the os x installer OR in disk utility. I went to my local Apple store and I was told that I needed a new hd. So, I bought a new hd and installed it. I still have problems, though! When I try to install os x, it says, "This software cannot be installed on this computer". I am using the install disc that originally came with the computer. The hd doesn't show up in the os x installer, but it does show up in disc utility. I have no idea what to do at this point. Please help!
Also, the new hd I bought is a Maxtor SATA II/300.

I am using the os x 10.4.2 install disk. The computer originally came with 10.4.0 install disks, but I misplaced them. The 10.4.2 install disk says it's for an iMac, though, so it should be working.. right?
Maybe, maybe not, Chuck. THis is almost certainly the cause of your problem, in fact.
If yours came with 10.4.0 originally it would have been a "Rev A" model (which probably had a version of Panther on it subsequently upgraded to Tiger) . 10.4.2 first arrived with the slightly different ALS model, though.
If you have access to the computer that came the with the 10.4.2 discs, you may be able to workaround the issue by connecting the one you are trying to instal on to the later one with a firewire cable, booting the one you want to install on in "Target Disk" mode (so it appears on the later computer's desktop), and then installing , using the DVD drive on the later computer.
This won't work in all circumstances (because of variations in the machine specific OS discs) , but in your case I think it would probably work. Note, though, that I am assuming you really do have a Tiger disc for the older iMac, as legally it is the one that provides you with a licence to install Tiger.
The best solution would be to find the original discs. If you can't then you should try to obtain a replacement set from Apple.

  • How can I install cs3 on new iMac with no disc drive?

I purchased cs3 and have all the original discs and serial number but can't use them so easily with the new macs... I have read the other discussions and tried the links to download the cs3 trial and then imput my serial number.
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
the links that are on this page give me http error: 404 message
Is it just me? Do these links no longer work? Does anyone have anyother ideads on how to get around this?
I'm not completely ignorant about computers- ignorant enough for this to be a very frustrating Saturday morning though... and the Adobe  chat is of no help which only make me want to punch an install disc even more.
    any help is appreciated
    Thanks!

I was signed in with download assistant, no just in at adobe.com... I've tried different perferences and settings but when I click on the links nothing seems to happen. I've been messing around with this for a few hours now and it dawned on me that it may have something to do with my internet. I live outside the city- totally nice for gardening, totally terriable for internet thus I have a verizon data plan and not unlimited internet, I think possibly verizon is shutting it down because of restrictions I have on my data. This type of thing also happened when I upgraded to Mavericks. The file itself was larger than my month's data so it seemed like it wouldn't initiate the download... I don't know for sure if it is the same problem here but if you're telling me that you are having more successful results than I am that might be the reason.
I'll take my computer to work or to my mom's house or somewhere where I can have unlimited access and see if I have any better success.
Thanks so much for all your help!

  • Can't install FC on new MacPro - invalid serial number

I just got my new MacPro and had done the crossgrade to get the universal FCS. I used the sound track pro upgrade to crossgrade to FCS.
I went to install and I can't seem to figure out what the valid serial number is.
The serial number from my prior STP doesn't work. Neither does the serial number from my prior FCP 4.1. I didn't get a new serial number with the crossgrade DVDs.
What serial number is supposed to work for this? I want to make sure I've tried the right things ... otherwise I guess I'll have to call Apple for help.
iMac Flat Panel   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I didn't get a new serial number with the crossgrade DVDs<<</div>
Check the documentation that came with the crossgrade. There should have been an "Installing Your Software" booklet included - on the front cover of that booklet are the serial number stickers.

  • Can't install Clamxav on new Intel solo core mini

Hi, I'm new to this forum and also apple mac's having just abandoned Windows after my 3 millionth crash.
Anyhow, after reading the forums I'm aware viruses aren't such a big deal, if at all, however I'd rather be safe than sorry so I was looking to install clamxav with being free etc. I'm used to getting by on AVG on a PC ie with it being free, I don't do anything online that would mean me getting a virus and have never got one on Windows, just needed that peace of mind.
I've tried installing Clamxav but it won't install, when I open the .dmg file it asks me to drag the icon to the applications folder, which seems to be ok, but when I double click the icon to run/install the program the icon just bounces in the dock for what seems like forever and I have to force quit the program to make it stop as the program stops responding after a while.
Does anyone have any ideas and or can anyone recommened another solution? (free if at all possible but don't mind paying, just want to avoid Norton at all costs).

A response in the ClamXav forums says:
It doesn't yet work with Intel Macs. Sorry. The new version which does work with them is currently being translated into the various languages and as soon as they all come back to me, I'll release it.
