Macbookpro and Thunderbolt Pegasus Issue? Pink Monitor!

I have a 17" Macbook Pro and run Lion, with a Samsung monitor (SA550) attached. I just got the Promise Raid 4 and attached it.
The Raid 5 takes 10 hours to configure. In the meantime, I've attached my Samsung monitor (with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter) to the other port. The dispay is now VERY pink.
This is not a know issue, to my understnading, and according to the people at Pegasus and Apple, they think the same thing. I'd love anyfeedback if you've had the same issue.
Thank you,
Dugmoore

I switched from a HDMI cable to a VGA cable, then used a mini disp;lay port to a VGA adapter. Pink screen is gone and it works fine!

I have an imac late 2009 and i would like to know if it is possible to connect a thunderbolt cable from the mini display port to a promise pegasus R6 which is then connected to an external monitor ?
    Thank you

Yes. You need thunderbolt cable to connect Pegasus, and mini display port to connect display to Pegasus.

  • Still practicing my CSS layout, and IE 7 issues.

I've revamped my site, and I've been practicing with the last 4 sites or so with mostly CSS layout....definitely a work in progress. My site is the first I've tried with overlapping images and the whole z-index thing. Everything looks great, for the most part. My issue is ALWAYS ie7, and then my issue is monitors with lower screen resolution. My sticky notes are showing up at the top of the page in IE7, looks great in 8. Every other browser seems to look great as well, as long as the resolution of the monitor is higher. I'm hoping someone can help me with positioning my sticky notes, so they don't shove my flash out to the right side of the page. Here's the URL www.theresasheridan.com.
Another site with another IE 7 issue....www.viewcamera.com. Here the issue is that the image in the maincontent div is shoved way down the page. I want to keep my width at 450 px so that I can have my side borders. Anyone have any other suggestions for me pretty please?
Last IE 7 issue (thanks so much), www.losvaquerosridingclub.org. The background color is white under the spry menu, but again...only in IE7.
    Thank you!!

You are absolutely right about the validator.  Some of it is way beyond me too!
However, it seems to indicate that you have some tag confusion going on there, usually that's about missing a closing element.  Fixing that is a good thing because it can screw your layout.  Another thing the validator points out is the omission of a few of your alt="" text.  That won't muck about with any layout issues but is worth adding if you have the time or inclination.  I'm afraid I don't have time to look right now but if I get the chance I'll have a go later.
With your sticky notes, it struck me that you could use absolute positioning.  The trick there is to place those elements in to a containing element, set that element to position: relative and then absolutely position the sticky notes using px dimensions where you want them in the page.  At the moment, you are using floats on those two parts of the page but again, I haven't quite got the time to look in detail now.
With the float drop thing and width, you would do well to Google "Box Model CSS" or something similar.  Width is not just the content width but also takes into account margin, border and padding.  When you add those up, the width may be too big for the containing element  width which will cause the content to "drop" or to be forced into a space that can accommodate it.  The other snag with the Box Model is that different Browsers handle it differently.  Sometimes what you need to do to create space in the page is to put padding on the nested element which constrains it's content without affecting the width of the container.
I'm a bit of a novice myself at this and it sounds a lot to get your head around.  However there is a a logic to it and once you crack it, it gets easier.
One other tip is to use FireFox browser and get the Firbug plug-in.  That lets you view the page in the browser and you can tweak your CSS "live" to get an idea of how things work together.  Once you have what you want you then turn to DW to make your edits.
I hope that helps rather than misleads!  As I say, I'll try to look later on but in the mean time, an expert might drop by.
And while I'm here, my feeling is that you might have done better to put each of your queries in different threads.  Sometimes, to see several questions in one hit is a bit daunting and I think people here tend to leave the longer questions a bit until they have time.

  • Thunderbolt audio distortion and slow Pegasus Raid Speeds

Having major problems with my MBP 17" and my thunderbolt set up. (MBP 17" 2.3 i7 quad core, (2) 27" thunderbolt displays, Pegasus R6 12TB Raid, Blackmagic Ultra Studio Pro 3D)
Apple states this clearly on there website that it is possible with this exact set up.
Issues: With all 4 devices plugged in the Raid speed goes from about 515mb/sec write to 166mb/sec write speed.
With one thunderbolt display, raid, and blackmagic I get around 460mb/sec.  As soon as the second display is added to the mix the speed drops off considerably.
After Effects and Davinci Resolve color correction software cannot get sync on the Blackmagic box. Final Cut works ok.
The other really big problem is that when you do any kind of data transfer across the thunderbolt line, I cant get audio to play back for more than a few seconds. I get distortion and static in the line.  I have tried the thunderbolt audio from the monitors and the Blackmagic box.
The most curious thing is that it all works on the 13" MBP.  The write speed goes to 225mb/sec with everything plugged in, however it must be enough, because the audio doesnt distort and I can get sync on my color correction monitor out of the Blackmagic box.
I also tried a brand new 17" MBP 2.5 i7.  I still get the same problem.  It is like there is something wrong with the 17".
I have contacted Pegasus and Blackmagic.  Pegasus said that they now know about it and are working with Apple.
Does anyone else have this set up and are you experiencing the same problems?  Please feel free to respond with any questions.  I wouldl love to hear from Apple regarding this matter.  Seems like a big problem.
    (other items testing)
-Switched video card to not auto switch.  just use high performance.
-Went to Apple, bought a brand new 17" 2.5, stock.  tested it.  same exact results.
-Moved all the items around in the daisy chain to see if one item has to be first.  No luck.
-Laptop monitor open and closed, same result.
    -Reinstall OS.
    -Brand new motherboard.
    -New hard drive
    -New RAM
    No luck again.

This is not a surprise. Apple's software RAID is slow. The best option for using Apple's software RAID is to use a regular disk for your audio files and keep the backup copy on a RAID. Also, depending on how important those files are, you might also want to keep an off-site backup copy because fires, floods, and thefts do occur.

  • Can I use DisplayPort (for a monitor) and Thunderbolt at the same time?

    Hi all,
I have a mid 2011 MacBook Air 13 inch with a single Thunderbolt port.
I have the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter cable which I am able to use to run a Dell 24 inch monitor - this cable connects to both the DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port and also a USB port on the Air.
I want to be able to run this Dell monitor, and also run a Thunderbolt hard drive - one with 2 Thunderbolt ports.
    Is this possible?
Can I connect the DisplayPort part of the cable to the pass-through Thunderbolt port on the hard drive, and then connect the hard drive to the Thunderbolt port on the Air?
    Thanks, for any advice :-)
I would like to buy the Apple Thunderbolt display (which would solve this issue), but I suspect it will may refreshed soon. So I don't intend to get one until then.
    Thanks :-)

    OK,
I have tried this myself and it does work.
Macbook Air - connect to Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt (Using Thunderbolt cable)
Seagate Goflex Thunderbolt passthrough to a Dell 24 Inch monitor (using Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter cable).
Both the Seagate GoFlex and the Dell 24 inch monitor work :-)
I am happy with this result, so I won't need to get a Thunderbolt moniter just yet - I will wait for Gen 2 :-)

  • Lion and Multi-Display (2 external monitors + built-in Display) [Thunderbolt, USB adapters/eVGA UV+]

    Hi everyone,
I just completed an upgrade to Lion and while I love it I've suddenly found myself short 1 display. I use 2x24" with my MacBook Pro - 1 via mini Display Port [the Thunderbolt port] and another via an eVGA UV+ [both displays have a resolution of 1920x1080].
There are two things that I am wondering about:
Has anyone else who's upgraded found their UV+ adapter to be useless all of the sudden? I'm contacting eVGA to find out how soon we can expect a functional OSX 10.7 Lion driver for that but in the meantime...
Has anyone heard anything of a Thunderbolt splitter "adapter" - it is obvious that you can have 2 displays chained to a MacBook Pro, as long as both of these displays are of the Thunderbolt Cinema Display variety ... seeing as I don't have two grand and already own 2 smaller monitors that I'd been using with Snow Leopard for quite some time now I was curious if there's just a way to ditch the USB adapter and just have the Thunderbolt port on my 2011 MBP drive both displays (I am fully aware that the GPU is capable of it but have yet to find a hardware display port or thunderbolt cable that splits in 2 so I can just hook each display into it and call it a day).
Thank in advance to anyone and everyone who provides any information related to that stuff as I'd greatly appreciate your help ... once you're used to the extra screen real estate going down from 3 screens to 2 can be pretty painful.
On that same note a general observation about Lion is that while I love full-screen apps I'll barely ever use them whenever I have external displays hooked up as Lion seems to insist on making the full screen app go to the primary display while completely blocking off the secondary display (rendering it useless). Hoping that Apple will make the UX for mulit-display folks nicer someday, I know their focus was just to release Lion now but there's absolutely room for improvement as far as that goes.
Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who responds to this post!

Turns out that's not truly the case - see http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/16/apple-thunderbolt-display-with-multiple-moni tors/ for details but the short of it is that if you just get one and plug in a Display Port Monitor you won't get that extra screen real estate after all.
Yes... the actual marketing 'statement' says you are unable to connect the mDP display "directly" to the back of the new TB display.  Yes...
But... from what i hear...  if you have some other TB display "directly" connected to the downstream of the TB display, you can 'then' add your older mDP display to the chain at that point.  You just can't have the older mDP directly to the new TB display.
And this still stands true if you read previous info from Apple website.  It's all about the wording...
So basically, you should still be able to have your MBPro + New TB display + (some other TB device w/ 2 ports) + old mDP display.

  • Help me solve color and dark print issue with a new monitor recommendation!

I know, I hate "surveys" too. I'm thinking of attacking my color and dark printing issues w\LR and CS4, by investing in a new monitor. I currently have an 20' early edition Apple Cinema Display. The monitor is the last hardware (software) item in my current upgrade cycle. From those folks who are NOT having color or print problems, what displays are you using (or would recommend)? Ah, and price is an issue. Apologies in advance to those who think this is not appropriate use of the Forum.

Monitor calibration is the first port of call. Sometimes changing one item in a system is enough to show up a colour management issue. You suggest that the monitor is the last item in your upgrade cycle, what all have you changed? Computer, printer? There may also be a setting you have failed to set when you installed the new software, eg. have you remembered to set relative colorimetric with the black point compensation box ticked, disable colour management in your printer driver and put an appropriate colour profile for your monitor onto the new computer? You also need the correct profile for your printer/paper combination set up in Photoshop.
If you haven't calibrated your monitor, that on its own will give you poor prints, but all the other bits are needed also.

  • Thunderbolt Sound Issues?

Is anyone else having problems with the Thunderbolt Display and sounds.  Mine works fine unless I am transferring a lot of data to my Thunderbolt drive through the monitor.  When I do that, it becomes totally unusable.  It almost seems like a bandwidth issue on the interface.
I am running data to a Promise Pegasus R6 (12TB) unit.

  • Mini-Displayport to DVI adapter not working, but Mini-Displayport to VGA and Thunderbolt work fine

Mini-Displayport to DVI adapter not working, but Mini-Displayport to VGA and Thunderbolt work fine.
This is a brand new MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2012) just received.  I suspect that this is a hardware problem as:
The mini-displayport to DVI adapter and the external monitor that I am utilizing connect and operate just fine using my older MacBook Pro (mid-2010) with the same OS.
The new MacBook Pro powers the external monitor with a mini-displayport to VGA adapater without issue.
The new MacBook Pro powers an Apple Thunderbolt display without issue.
Both MacBook Pro's are running OSX Lion 10.7.4.
The only combination which does not work is the mini-displayport to DVI adapater used in conjunction with the brand new MacBook Pro (mid-2012).
All adapters and components (mini-displayport adapters) are Apple retail adapter.
I have tried several external monitors, including my Dell U2412m.
When I connect the mini-displayport to DVI adapater to the new MacBook Pro (mid-2012), nothing happens. The external monitor reports "no signal" and attempts to go into sleep mode.  Using the "Detect displays" button has no effect, even when used multiple times.  Rebooting does not help, nor does resetting the SMC or PRAM.
Any other suggestions before I take it to the Genius Bar?

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

    I'd suspect this known issue:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
if you have a late 2007 MBP.
The only testing you can do at home is to attach an external monitor and see if the defects repeat on the external. If so, get to an Apple store. If the computer's video chipset fails a test the Apple Store will perform, you get a free logic board replacement. Turnaround is usually one day to one week--not bad at all.
If the defects do NOT repeat on an external monitor, then the problem is not covered by the above Repair Extension Program
The issue is heat-triggered. Be certain that you control heat once you get it fixed. Don't use the computer in your lap without a lapboard; don't block the vents under the display hinge; don't us in clamshell mode, etc.

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

Sync between MacBookPro and iPhone 3G does not sync properly.  Calendars duplicate events but worse is that only contacts from Address book from letter T onwards sync.  Any contacts on iPhone which are not on Mac are lost during sync.
    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • Satellite U500 - Bluetooth issues BT Monitor vs. Bt Stack

    Hello everyone,
    My wife's machine is a Satellite U500-10L PSU5EE-002003AR, now with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (originally with Vista pre-installed, later with W7Pro 32-bit.)
Now, I've always had various issues with Bluetooth on this machine, and it's the only machine I've ever had Bluetooth issues with, mostly having to do with internet connectivity via mobile phones.
Most usually, I connect to the internet using Sony Ericsson PC Suite and a Bluetooth-controlled Sony Ericsson mobile phone (currently and Elm, and occasionally a Hazel or a C702.) This setup has always worked flawlessly on every other machine I've used, such as my Getac B300, the old HP Compaq 6710b given to me by my previous employer for a couple of years, and even my untrustworthy old Thinkpad T42 (now deceased), and my mother's ancient Macbook. With those machines, I've never had any trouble connecting to any of the phones or to the internet, with no drops, connection issues or any other issues.
Not so with this U500. I'm writing this while connected through PC Suite, with Bluetooth Monitor 4 as the hardware controller. The connection is intermittent at best, usually unreliable, and sometimes downright impossible. Sometimes it works flawlessly for days on end, and sometimes it just refuses to work. Generally, though, I get a connection more often than not, but the issue is annoying nevertheless.
Now, I tried a different approach: I uninstalled Bluetooth Monitor and SE PC Suite, installed the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and tried to connect to the internet directly through the BT Stack. I paired the Elm to the U500 successfully from the BT Stack control panel and managed to dial the connection, so far so good. But I had no internet access whatsoever. Now, the phone shows that it's actually connected, and so does the BT Stack control panel and the Windows 7 connectivity monitor in the system tray, but there's no actual access to the internet (I only get the little yellow triangle with the +no internet access+ message, but the phone is dialed in.)
So, I tried reinstalling PC Suite (with BT Stack present), and things got even worse: now the BT connection itself between PC Suite and the phone is only sporadic and intermittent, but sometimes it just works well enough to actually get a connection (albeit an unreliable one.)
So now I've uninstalled the BT Stack, reinstalled BT Monitor and went back to using PC Suite for dialing, and the same issues I mentioned earlier still persist.
Now, my two questions are these: a. why didn't I get any internet access with BT Stack, even though the phone was actually dialed in to the connection? and b. assuming the internet access issue is resolved, would I possibly get a more reliable connection (i.e. one that doesn't suddenly decide to drop every so often) with BT Stack instead of the PC Suite/BT Monitor setup?
    Thanks in advance.

Just an update: I've found that as long as there is a direct line of sight between the phone and the U500, there would be no issues. The Bluetooth connectivity issue only starts to appear whenever there's something - anything - in the way between the two.
Let me clarify. Now I'm sitting at my desk, with the U500 right in front of me, while the mobile phone is hanging from a nail in the wall above me and to the left. Now that there's a direct line of sight between the phone and the U500, I have no issues at all.
Now, let's say I take the U500 off the desk, put in on my lap, and turn my back to the phone. In this case, my head and torso would be in the way of a direct line of sight between the two, and the stability of the connection begins to deteriorate, and it becomes very unreliable - sometimes even dropping the Bluetooth connection altogether (Sony Ericsson PC Suites goes all gray on me!)
Here's another example: there's a printer sitting on the desk right to my left. Now, if I stack up a bunch of magazines on top of the printer, high enough to be within the line of sight, I will start having issues!
So, I'm pretty sure it's a Bluetooth connectivity issue, and has nothing to do with the internet connection or firewall. It's clearly a hardware quality issue.
By contrast, I never experienced any such issue with my B300, the HP Compaq 6710b I had earlier, or even with my now-deceased ThinkPad T42. Hell, I might as well have gone into a different room entirely and still maintained a Bluetooth connection with those three machines! With the Toshiba, though, as soon as I carry the thing out the door - which is about four feet from the phone - the connection is gone!
