MacBookPro - HDMI - Samsung 32" B670 - no audio

i conected my macbook pro with our Samsung 32" B670 LCD TV 100hz ... via an HDMI cable, everything great, but the TV doesn´t makes any noise. So i pluged in an cable to conect the headphones line out with the line in from the tv, but nothing works, please help!

The Mini DisplayPort plug on your laptop (and any Mac for that matter) only carries video and does not carry the digital audio signal that other HDMI capable devices use. You did the right thing in trying to use the headphone output to send audio to the line input of the TV. Without seeing your setup, I can't say exactly why it's not working, but having installed quite a few home theater systems, here are a few things to check (some of these might be obvious so please forgive me):
1) Make sure you're plugged into the headphone out and not the line in audio jack on your computer
2) Make sure the audio output isn't muted on the computer
3) Make sure the audio input on the TV corresponds to the HDMI video input - some TVs don't provide analog audio input to their HDMI inputs, but some do. You can't for example plug the analog audio into VIDEO 1 and expect it to show up when you switch the TV to HDMI 1. Also, many TVs have AUDIO OUT plugs that are to send signal to a stereo receiver and cannot receive input.
4) If your TV does have analog audio inputs for the HDMI input, you might need to go into the TV's settings to tell it to look for audio there instead of from the HDMI connector.
If you give me your TV model and what you are plugging into I can look it up and tell you if what you are doing is supposed to work or not.
Monoprice.com makes an adaptor that plugs into the MiniDisplayport and USB for audio, which gives you both audio and video on the same connector. All you have to do after plugging it in is select USB DEVICE in the Output tab of the Sound System Prefs. Works very well!

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • "ATI HDMI output: ATI High Definition Audio Device not plugged in"

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion p6210t PC running Windows 7. A few days ago, the sound stopped working, out of the blue. In Device Manager, it says ATI HDMI output / ATI High Definition Audio Device not plugged in." Computer is not connected with a TV, just a set of basic Logitech speakers.
I really have no idea how this might have happened. Any ideas on fixing this? I've rebooted and all that basic stuff, but nothing. Thanks!

Never mind, somehow the speakers were not set as default devices for sound. Fixed.

  • "AMD HDMI Output -AMD High Definition Audio Device not plugged in

i have an HP Pavilion dv6-6110us laptop. i have had this laptop for less than 1 month and the sound is not working at all. I checked to make sure nothing was muted, i uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled it on Device Manager, and still, I cannot manage to get the sound back on. the audio settings says "AMD HDMI Output -AMD High Definition Audio Device not plugged in) ..but i have no clue how to "plug it in". Help!!!?

Hey! You essentially have two sound cards, including the HDMI. First, make sure you're using the ATI graphics card, and not the Intel, when you want to use the HDMI.
Next, go to Windows Control Panel\Sound
On the playback tab (which shows by default), WHEN YOUR HDMI IS PLUGGED IN AND WORKING, you should see two playback devices: Your internal sound card/speakers, and the AMD HDMI. All you need to do is switch between the playback device you want the sound to be channelled to. You can switch this at any time. I do this when watching in the other room via my projector, or in my comp. room. Just select the HDMI sound device and choose the button on bottom-middle "Set Default". This will change the "default device" tag to below the HDMI playback device. To reset, either unplug the HDMI, or switch it here. This is always the first place you should look when you have sound issues.
Because I switch quite often, I have a shortcut link on my desktop to this sound menu, for quick switching.
If this doesn't work, make sure you have drivers for your ATI video card installed. Check you exact model and make sure your bios is up to date. They have made for switchable graphics now, which is much preferable to the previous auto-detect switch. The drivers are updated, as well. The latest HP drivers for the ATI were released in November. You can install these, then install the latest AMD/ATI Mobility Video Driver package over the top to make sure you have the latest video drivers. Either of these packages includes the HDMI audio driver, which you may not have installed.

  • Mini DVI to HDMI cables- Will I get audio on TV

If I hook up a mini DVI to HDMI adapter to an HDMI cable and run it from my MacBook to my plasma TV, can I get video & audio without using the optical digital audio port?

    stedman1 wrote:
Hi ypw: Good question indeed. I checked my Plasma (LG) there doesn't appear to be a separate audio input associated with the HDMI inputs. I seem to recall some posts on here pointing to the separate audio solution, but had never tried to verify.
I might try with my Samsung plasma TV at home.
I thought that the general idea of using the DVI to HDMI converter was just to use it like one would use a typical monitor without audio. Since HDMI already has digital audio and typically comes from sources (tuners, converter boxes, video players) with audio, I don't think there would generally be an option to use analog audio, although it shouldn't be hard to include that option.
I've seen a few things like converters that take component video and analog audio as inputs, with a single HDMI output. I don't know if anyone anticipated blending a different audio source when the source is already HDMI.

For the audio we have an HDMI going into a Matrix Switch then another HDMI into our cable box and Red/White audio cables from the Matrix switch into our Bose Soundwave. Audio from apps like Netflix & YouTube only play through the TV speakers which are not as good as the Bose of course.
Is there anyway of changing this without having to buy a true surround sound system and use the optical audio out?

Ok, this one will be somewhat tricky.
I like the D series, but I just can't recall if they have analog audio outputs. That's what you need to make this happen. Perhaps Dval will weigh in.
If the TV has only optical out, you're screwed. Well, then again, there are conversion things out there. But the performance of the DACs is all over the place.

  • MBP and HDMI - Samsung 40"

I have a mid-2009 MBP. When looking at the technical specifications at the Apple site, I do not see where my computer will do HDMI output. However, the folks at BB told me that if I have the mini-display port, then I should be able to use the Mini-Display to HDMI adapter. Does anyone have any experience with this before I go and buy the wrong adapter?
The ultimate goal is to connect my MBP to my new Samsung 40" LCD TV.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
    Regards,
    Mark.

What the people at BB told you should work for getting a picture on the TV screen, but sound won't come through the interface. You will need to bring sound into the TV separately using the MBP's headphone output and RCA audio input jacks on the TV.

  • No audio through HDMI cable when listening to audio tracks but ok with vids

    Please Help!!
Ok I hooked up my HP to my Samsung 1080p hdtv through an HDMI cable. My computer displays fine on the TV, the visualizer in ITunes shows just fine, but the audio only comes out of the speakers on my laptop when playing a regular music track. When it plays one of the bonus music videos on the same album, audio and video both play. When I play the songs in any other interface, ie windows media player and HP quick play, audio tracks play fine through HDMI. So this has to be something with ITunes. Anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks!

Wouldn't you know it, just figured it out. You have to make sure that itunes is not loaded before hooking up the HDMI cable. So,
    turn off itunes,
    hook up the HDMI cable,
(go to sound [control panel] and make sure that HDMI has the checkmark next to it),
    load itunes,
    enjoy.

  • Mac Mini HDMI Samsung HDTV colors washed out

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Just upgraded from a 2009 Mac Mini to a new one. Using HDMI, the colors are washed out and off (greenish purplish) at the default 1360 x 1768. If I pick one of the other (like 720p) the colors are right but resolution is screwy. Any thoughts?
    And... Thank You.

If you haven't already, make sure all firmware
is up to date. There has been some recent updates
that may not have made it to your machine.
As for the 720p issue, go to the Samsung setup
screen that deals with screen size and set the mode
to "Fit to Screen".  Pretty sure it says that or something
    similar.

  • Connecting from VDI to HDMI (samsung 16:9 TV) screen!

When I try to connect to a Samsung TV screen 16:9 format using a DVI to HDMI adapter, the desktop is always bigger than the screen. No matter what size screen resolution I choose.
Is there a special screen driver for this type of screen?
Has any body had the same problem?
Would it work better if I change to a DVI to VGA adapter?
    Thanks!

There should be an overscan slider (actually labeled "Underscan") in the Displays preference for that "monitor".  Displays preferences should also give you the choices of 1080p, 1080i, etc.  Your TV may also have an overscan/underscan menu setting in its menus (my Sony does).  And as mooblie said, the TV may have a menu setting for the display area. In the case of my Sony it is referred to as "Full Pixel".
I don't recommend using the VGA, you won't get a HD picture from that since that's lower resolution and an analog interface.
Finally, I don't think this is probably necessay, but you might click the Detect Displays button in the Displays preferences.  If you don't see the 1080p, etc. resolutions for that screen then maybe you do have to do this.

  • No audio from HDMI output because High Definition Audio Driver cannot start (Envy 17 Quad)

Ever since I first bought this laptop two months ago, the audio from the HDMI output has always been inconsistent. I remember it working a couple times, but there were more times when my audio driver didn't recognize that an HDMI cable was plugged in. Yes, I tried all the obvious: shutting down computer, checking disabled devices in Playback Devices, reinstalling drivers, etc. Now, when I plug an HDMI cable in, the video comes out fine but the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC does not recognize HDMI/my TV. The High Definition Audio Driver says it cannot start, but I could not reinstall nor find a download from HP's website. How can I get audio through HDMI to my TV??

  • HDMi to DVI D - No Audio

    Hello Everyone!
So, I bought a cable (HDMi to DVi-D) and have it coming out of my Apple TV and into an older Sony 55" TV. The DVi-D input on the Sony has 2 RCA audio inputs under it but nowhere on the TV is there an optical input to take from the Apple TV device.
Any workarounds for this? Is Aiplay an option?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

The TV part of seems to work fine. I tried NHL GameCenter (i have a subscription) and it worked beautifully, just no audio. I Googled the D/A converters. That seems doable (i hope) !
    Thanks for your input vazandrew!

  • HDMI output (Envy 17) - split audio?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of using an HD TV as a second monitor for my Envy via HDMI cable.
HDMI can transmit audio data...so how does this work?
Will the audio come out of both devices?
Or will I be able to choose?
Is it possible to split it per application?
Eg, media player audio comes out of the TV, and PC system sounds come out of the laptop itself?
I imagine this is configured on the software level, if the hardware supports it.
    thanks

Take your notebook to the store that has the TV you want to buy and try it there!
This is how I tested the 3D function vid HDMI befor I bought my 60".
