MacBookPro IR remote use with presentation software

Hi all. This is my first post to the forum, after my first full day with my new MacBookPro. I'm a long-time MS Windows / PC user, never used MAC before. (I wished I'd bought a mac sooner! I'm hooked!) So there's my background, now here's my question:
The new MacBookPro comes with this schnazzy little IR remote. Could anyone tell me if this remote can also be used to "select next slide" when using presentation software like PowerPoint, Impress (open-source), or KeyNote?
Since all of these software packages simply use an "Enter" or "Space" key press to advance slides... it seems this would be a simple thing to get to work.
I'm grateful for anyone's help or advice. Thanks!
MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   New to MAC, not to computers.

Yes I used it with Keynote but first, go to system preferences/security and veryfie that disable remote control infrared receiver is not chek.

I use a number of WVC cameras and when I view them through a browser, the audio works fine.  When I use the Linksys "monitor" software, i have a continuous echo/noise problem.  Is there a fix to this or am i limited to watching them one at a time through a browser??

  • Mavericks use with outher software?

If i install Mavericks it tells me I can't use my previously installed Microsoft Office products.

You will need either Office for Mac 2008 or 2011 for Mavericks compatibility. Which ever you have, you may need to reinstall it, and ensure that you are at the latest Office update version.

  • Is it possible to use a presenter remote with an iPad2? If so what kind?

I am a youth pastor and I like to connect my iPad2 to the sound system and to our flat screen tv. My problem is I want to use my iPad2 in a presenter style type of way where I do not need to be standing next to my iPad2 to change the slides. I was wondering if there was a presenter remote that I could use with my iPad.
    Thanks!

Not at this point. Would be a nice feature to see developed at some point... The ipad and iphone can be used to control a computer connected to a projected image, however - that's what I use in the classroom.

  • I am a language intructor, can I use Adobe Presenter to work properly on both, English, and Spanish presentations with the same software?

I am a language intructor, can I use Adobe Presenter to work properly on both, English, and Spanish presentations with the same software?

It shouldn't be an issue. Ultimately, Presenter doesn't care what language the content or audio is in, it will deliver it just the same. The only issue I could see causing problems would be the player skin. It has Spanish lables, but they only show on a computer with the OS set to Spanish. If you want the student to view both and English and a Spanish version on the same computer, you may need to have two versions of the language.xml file where you have one that has the desired English lables in the "en" section and one where it has the desired Spanish labels in the "en" section. You would then swap these files in and out of the folder located at,C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Presenter\Themes , as you need to publish an English or Spanish presentation.

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

  • If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?

I have several friends and family who are looking for a central place to access information from ( Pictures, home movies etc ).  So I am considering setting up an OSX Lion Server.  There are some other things I can use it for as well.
    Here is my question:
If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?  Or would I have to install the Admin software on each?  Do they intend it to be used strictly as one admin to access many clients?
I always could set up a network drive so they can log in and just see the folders they have created with space on the server I provide them.  But I want them to be able to log an and actually use it as a Remote Desktop.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Dave,
Thanks for the feedback.  I understand that ARD is meant for Remote Administration, but I was not sure if it could be used for my purpose as well.  The reason I was looking to do it this was was because I read several articles online about security and performance issues with setting up VNC and activating screen sharing.  Unless I am misunderstood.
As far as people's activities on the server, mostly it is going to be used as a place for them to store their media.  I will only allow own person ( Who I trust and I know wont botch the server ), to run applications.  Everyone else will be restricted to uploading and downloading content to their designated account on the server as well as a community share on the server.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Can i use airport with other software than itunes?

I have my living room speakers connected to my Airport Express.
I can listen to my iTunes music playing it on my MacBook Air and I can use my iPhone to control it with Remote App.
But I can't use any other software to send sound to my speakers through Airport Express.
Is there a way to tell my computer to send all sound to Airport Express, e.g. listen to music from Youtube in my livingroom speakers?
    Thanks!

I believe Airfoil can do that...

  • WVC80N software "unable to set up remote viewing" with TZO

I've researched this all night and I'm now begging for help.
I've got the camera all set up and I can view it while on the local network.  The problem comes in when I try to sign up for the 90-day free TZO trial that comes with the camera to try to get remote viewing on my iPhone.  I progress through the Linksys setup software (as is detailed here: http://www.tzo.com/MainPageSupport/HowToPage/LinksysHomeMonitoringNCameraTutorial.html) and between steps 7 and 8, I get a screen that says "Unable to set up remote viewing" with my network, click this link to learn how to remotely view your camera.  The link takes me to a page on the TZO site that says "Oops, there was an unknown error with setting up you camern for remote access" and nothing else.  It seems to die on the "Configuring Internet Server" step.
Within the camera's setup page, there's a link to the TZO website that tells me that because I have a WVC80N, I have to use the setup CD to set up the 90-day free trial, which fails as described above.
I've set the camera to have a fixed IP of 192.168.1.200
I've set the Alternative Web Access Port to 1024
In Port Range Forwarding in the router, I've set 1024 to 1024 to forward to 192.168.1.200 (not sure exactly what this does)
    The router is a WRT160N
    Any ideas?

Have you tried getting in touch with TZO and set the DDNS up the old fashioned way?  I also know that TZO has a beta going on of a new IP camera application for remote viewing and this may also help.  Not sure why the setup is failing though, but oook is probably right, something wacky with the router, IP or ISP that the setup software just doesn't like.

  • HT3325 Can the remote be used with the laser/pointer?

The latest update of keynote support wireless remote control with mirror display on hand, which is great. But, this would be perfect if it would allow to remotely (wirelessly) use the laser/pointer available in keynote presentation mode. Is that possible?

Thanks. I understand, but my question referred to use 2 iPads to make the presentation, one connected to the projector and the other in  hand.

  • Does the Apple Remote work with Keynote '08 to make presentations with?

The subject pretty much asks the question, but I'll repeat it here again:
Does the Apple Remote work with Keynote '08 to make presentations with?

Although it does not provide the same abilities as a "professional" clicker it does do the job. For example your computer still has to be in front of you, or you need to be pointing at it. Steve Jobs does not use an Apple remote as his clicker, but as a easy solution, it does the job.

  • Use BB desktop software with no connected BB

    Hello
My fantastic BB Bold 9900 has unfortunately been floded and become unusable.
Is it possible to retrieve the back data I saved on my computer withour connecting the device which is out of order?
    thanks for advice

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If you have used the Desktop Software to backup your device to your computer, then the files containing the data are there...they will be either with extension of IPD or BBB, depending on the version of the Desktop Software you used. However, those files are of a proprietary format, and natively only useful as the source of restore to another BB device. Refer to the Backup link in my auto sig on this post for information regarding backup/restore.
There are 3rd party PC apps that can parse the BBB/IPD files and present them in a usable format on your computer. A few minutes on your favorite Internet search engine should provide to you candidate apps for this purpose.
    Good luck!
